This deluxe hardback book is packed with over 200 pages of photographs, many from Tarja's personal collection and never seen before. It's written by Tarja in her own words with special contributions from friends and colleagues.

Ihan kiva katsaus Turusen uraan, mutta olisin kaivannut vähän syvempää otettava — nyt kaikki oli vähän liian positiivista, ihmiset ihania ja kaikki niin kovin mukavaa, että tämä tuntui enemmänkin levyn kylkiäisenä saatavalta fanikirjalta. Nightwish-draamaa en kaipaa, eikä Turunen sitä paljoa käsittelemään, vaan koko kirja keskittyy lähinnä hänen soolouraansa. Joitakin henkilökohtaisia pilkahduksia löytyy, mutta suurin osa kuluu levyjen ja konserttien yksityiskohdissa, ja Turunen henkilönä jää jonnekin taka-alalle.

Äänikirjaversio oli kiva kuunnella Turusen itsensä lukemana, vaikka hän eläytyi lukemaansa hieman enemmän kuin oma makuni vaatii, tuntui vähän siltä kuin olisin päiväkodissa ja hän päiväkodin tätinä lukee minulle satua…

Luulin tätä elämäkerraksi mutta on enemmänkin fanikirja, jonka anti jää vähäiseksi. Pintapuolinen katsaus musiikkimaailmaan, aika paljon olisi voinut sisältöä syventää.

ihan kiva, turunen sopi hyvin oman tarinansa lukijaksi. kirja jää pinnalliseksi ja keskittyy pitkälti turusen soolouraan. nightwish mainitaan lyhyesti ja neutraalisti. kaipasin syvempää kurkkausta turusen elämään ja, myönnettäköön, nightwish-aikoihin.

Todella pinnallinen kirja, vailla tunnetta. Faneille mahdollisesti mielenkiintoisia ajatuksia levyjen teosta, mutta "ulkopuoliselle" kirja ei tuntunut antavan mitään.

A gorgeous book full of beautiful images and a valuable insight into Tarja's career so far. Very glad to have the gorgeous shots from The Shadow Self and Act II in particular and also wonderful to see some pictures from Tarja's collection.

Nightwish fans should beware though that the band are hardly mentioned in here meaning it's a bit narratively clunky shooting from her early years and growing up straight into her debut solo album Henkäys Ikuisuudesta and the My Winter Storm era. It makes a bit of sense since Nightwish's story with her was already documented in Once Upon A Nightwish and the content here is very closely focused on Tarja's involvement in the compositions of her subsequent solo work, something she wasn't as key to during the Nightwish years.

I do appreciate the honesty of Tarja's accounts when reflecting back on previous albums, especially the struggles during My Winter Storm when she was pulled in numerous directions artistically. It was also inspiring to see what a passion she has for her singing - it is so much more than a job for her, you can appreciate that she is wholeheartedly dedicated to her consistent evolution as a vocalist.

This book makes no secret of the fact that it's catered to and for devoted fans of Tarja's music - if that's you, and you don't mind the Nightwish omissions, you'll be very pleased with this beautiful book.

Olen nähnyt Tarjaa neljä kertaa, kolme kertaa nightwishin kanssa ja kerran Solo artistina. Täytyy sanoa että hänen lähtönsä nightwishistä jälkeen en halunnut kuulla mitään häneltä, eikä bändiltä. Suutuin pahasti, haha!! Anetten kanssa ei mulla ollut kiinnostusta olenkaan. Sitten kun tuli Floor, tuli myös innostus takaisin ja olen nähnyt bändin taas floorin kanssa täällä Ateenassa. Annoin tarjalle anteeksi ja kun hän tuli Ateenaan päätin mennä keikkaan koska oli ikävä Nightwishin biisejä ja luulin että se on ainoa keino kuulla niitä taas Tarjan kanssa. Olipas täydellinen keikka. Tarja oli niin lämmin ihminen, niin kiitollinen, niin lähellä faneja. Tykkäsin kovasti. En olisi oikeasti ostanut kirjaa mutta sain sen niin halvaksi levykaupasta X ja olen nyt niin iloinen että ostin sen. Kuvat ovat upeita, se on ihan mahtavaa!! Teksti on hyvä ja saamme hyvän kuvan hänen työtavasta, hänen tiimiltä, hänen elämästäkin. Välillä on ehkä liikaa toistoa ja paljon yksityiskohtia mitkä on kuin jarrut kirjan rytmille. Faneille se on ihana kirja ja se on myös todella kaunis. Muuten voin ymmärtää jos ei-niin-kovalle-fanille tulisi tylsäksi.

Finally got around to reading and finishing this book. I got the book because I'm a fan and but didn't really know what to expect from it.. how the writing style would be or anything (I'm kind of picky). I actually really enjoyed it. Even if I wasn't a fan of Tarja, the stories and included photos are really interesting. It's like having a conversation with someone who has lead an interesting life, and really Tarja has. I super enjoyed learning new things and appreciated how she opened herself up here.
There we some shocking things like the fact someone threw a bottle in her face during a show and gave her a black eye (wtf is wrong with people?), and disturbing things like the stalker one of her songs is based off of. There was also the part where she mentioned her stroke. I enjoyed all the photos, especially the funny ones. Really interesting book. If you're a fan check it out!

As much as I enjoy Tarja Turunen's music, I was a bit disappointed with this autobiography. The gorgeous photos and interviews with various people who played a role in the artists career are a highlight. Sadly, they don't make up for the fact that the book itself is rather brief and lacking in some details. For example, Tarja Turunen is best known for her work with the symphonic heavy metal band Nightwish and yet she glosses over this part of her career, only mentioning it on a handful occasions. Instead most of the book is dedicated to her solo work after leaving the band. While I understand why the artist may have chosen to do this, given the unpleasant manner in which she was forced to leave the band, it still doesn't change the fact that Nightwish was a vital part of her history and she won't have been able to pursue a solo career without it.

Ennen kirjan lukemista en tiennyt Tarja Turusesta paljoakaan. En myöskään kuuntele metallimusiikkia tai rockia. Kirja luultavasti palvelee paremmin sellaista lukijaa, joka on seurannut Turusen uraa. Hän on tehnyt jo tähän mennessä näyttävän uran maailmalla. Kirjassa on lueteltu huikea määrä esiintymisiä, levytyksiä, äänitystuokioita, muusikoita yms. taustajoukkoja. Minusta kirja oli vähän sekava johtuen juuri tästä, että mukaan on pakattu osapuilleen kaikki merkittävämmät esiintymiset yksityiskohtineen. Kaikesta huolimatta oli mielenkiintoista lukea miten tuollainen suuren maailman tähti elää kiertueillaan ja mitä muuta hän itse esittämänsä musiikin taustalla tekee. Kuvat toivat mukavan lisän kirjaan.

Kuten muutkin, olisin toivonut, että tässä olisi päästy vähän syvemmälle. Lukukokemuksesta tuli välillä vähän luettelomainen, kun yritin sivutolkulla pysyä kärryillä siitä, kuka artisti on listattu vierailemaan milläkin levyllä. Henkilökohtaisesti olisin pitänyt enemmän kronologisesta otteesta, eli että kirja etenisi levy kerrallaan. Kirjoitustyyli on paikoin vähän töksähtelevää, mutta runsaasta kuvituksesta tulee iso plussa. Kokonaisuus on kuitenkin ihan kiinnostava paketti Turusen soolourasta, johon tekee nyt mieli perehtyä tarkemmin.

An insightful look to Tarja’s solo career and her rise away from Nightwish. A good read for any fan, however please note, she does not talk about her time in the band. This 100% focused on her solo career.

Tarja is a wonderful and creative artist. Her story revolves around music- everything music. If you are a fan, this is a must-read to learn about how every album was made up to the year it was written.
