2✨ This star rating may honestly be a little generous even still. I really don't judge when a book is self-published, like hey, more power to you, good on ya. But what I WILL judge, is when it SO badly needs editorial work. This could have used an editor's eye and help SO badly. The premise was interesting enough, I guess. I mean, it caused me to add it to my wish list and it was then gifted to me. But I could NOT get behind quite a few things. Again, the editing. This writing was so stiff and did not help the story line to flow or read easily at all; it was not up to par with other things I read (and I read a wide range, along with having read self-published before), a few portions of the story line were unrealistic for different reasons. Such as: a man who would physically abuse, SA, and sell off his daughter, uses the word "behind" when threatening to beat her? I understand (from the back, I didn't know before the book was purchased) that this is a Christian author; but you cannot have me believing he is that type of man and not have him use any curse words.

Then, for the agent involved in the case to have a weird, automatic sexual attraction to our abused female protagonist? Semi-weird, but ok. But the writing when this aspect was being written about? Made it just flat-out really weird.. The ending "cliff-hanger" was even weirder and didn't make the book more interesting, more than just making it more confusing. The way the author built our female protagonist, didn't lend AT ALL to how the ending went. It didn't "shock and awe" or impress in any way, it just really didn't make sense to the entire rest of the book. I will not be continuing the series.
This book is disturbingly dark, to the point where I feel like I shouldn’t have even read it. I predicted the ending which always bums me out but I was definitely too intrigued to put it down. Solid thriller but would feel uncomfortable ever recommending it😅
