The worst thing about this is that I feel like everything was copy/pasted, so that typos carried their way over to this.

That and I wasn't a fan of some stories, but that's going to happen.
My star ratings aren't typical but just to organize which ones I like more than others.

Legends:
1. (**)A Senator on the run meets Obi-Wan
2. (****) Malgus and his past meets the present. I like the advice he recalls from his father when facing a Jedi.
3. (*) I couldn't get into this one from Freed but could tell it was good.
4. Ugh. Hondo.
5. (****) This shows some neat silent communication among Lorrdians. Rex even essentially thinks "What Would General Skywalker Do?" which humors me. I liked this more than expected given Rex is here.
6. (****) This is an intro to Tavia and Bink from "Scoundrels."
7. (****) I love the pictures! Jaina, Tenel Ka, and Alana post-LotF.
8. (**) Young Leia on one of her first solo missions
9. (*) Zero from Lockdown. Interesting but only okay.
10. Non-apprentice Telloti who was assigned to the Explorer Corps as a Pathfinder is with a Jedi who didn't take him on as an apprentice years ago. I didn't like the end.
11. (*) I love the art. Rebel tries to get the next generation Star Destroyer plans from Imperials. It's passable.

Canon:
12. TIE fighters and a bar fight between ground-hogs and vac-heads are forced to act nice.
13. (*) Lando on Lothal
14. A dude is on Corellia with a history with the Jedi.
15. Ventress teams up with someone against Hondo.
16. Something with Twilight Company
17. (***) Man who aspired to be a stormtrooper as a teen is one now. He's hated on by the Clone Commander for no reason which is super weird. But that end made me go "wow."
18. (**) Neat story about a pilot contest over Corellia.
19. (*) Interesting story during RotJ but not on Endor.
20. (***) Very interesting about a reporter named Calliope who finds herself as a rebel from the inside.

The second volume of Star Wars Insider Magazine stories is solid, although not every story is a hit. Eleven of the 20 stories within -- all of which appeared in magazines between March 2011 and December 2016 -- are from the "Legends" continuity, the Expanded Universe before Disney bought Star Wars. The remaining nine are part of the current Disney canon. As someone interested in reading through the Star Wars canon, my review focuses on these nine stories.

First of all, part of me is just glad this collection exists. I wasn't particularly excited at the prospect of chasing down magazine copies for these stories, so big hardcover collections are like a godsend. It's fun reading this short form fiction and looking at the fantastic illustrations, learning more about the universe through smaller-scale stories and one-off characters.

The stories themselves are a bit of a mixed bag. They appear to have been taken from the magazines without any editing, and some of them include notable typos like misspellings of main character names. And in any collection like this, not all nine stories are created equal.

The easy standouts here are TK-462, a first-person story from Silvain Neuval about a stormtrooper, and Turning Point, by Jason M. Hough, about a man who guides people through a dangerous jungle. Scorched is a good introduction to Greer Sonnell from the Bloodline novel. The End of History is interesting, about a resistance fighter crashing and meeting an antique dealer. Rebel Bluff features Lando and characters from the Rebels show. The remaining four are pretty forgettable, although The Voice of the Empire does give a small look at Imperial propaganda through the eyes of a reporter -- not a type of character we usually see highlighted in Star Wars. Overall, it's a reasonable assortment and fun to see such a variety of perspectives on the universe -- and in particular, the Disney canon offerings are superior to those in the first Insider Fiction Collection.

If you're not enthusiastic about the idea of short stories, most featuring characters you'll never see again, this collection isn't for you. But if you want these brief slices of Star Wars, this second fiction collection is worth picking up.

A collection of twenty short stories originally published in Star Wars Insider magazine, featuring tales from the old Expanded Universe (Legends) and from the new canon (evil Disney).
Ranging from the days of the Old Republic up to the Legacy era, these stories star characters such as Obi-Wan Kenobi, Darth Malgus, Hondo Ohnaka, Jaina Solo, Princess Leia, Lando Calrissian and Asajj Ventress.

As with the previous volume, I was immensely pleased that this book allowed me to once again dive into the now-defunct EU canon that I loved for twenty-odd years, with tales tying-in to novels like 'Kenobi', 'Scoundrels', 'Maul: Lockdown' and 'Honor Among Thieves'.
The new canon stories, on the other hand, felt oddly shallow and detached. Honestly, they actually felt more like the stories which used to be published in the 'Star Wars Adventure Journal', with major Star Wars characters being featured as cameos, if at all.
The exception is certainly Michael Kogge's Lando story which not only does that character justice but which also fits nicely into the events of the Rebels TV series.

All that said, this book as a whole definitely feels like the B-list stories, with the first volume feeling like it had the pick of the best stories overall.
There's still plenty to enjoy here but it's just not quite as good as its predecessor. However, I certainly hope they keep producing these anthologies because I know there's plenty more great Insider fiction yet to be collected.

The Star Wars galaxy is always expanding, from our first glimpses of Tatooine in 1977 to the ever-expanding number of planets and moons now present in the universe. Star Wars Insider: Fiction Collection Volume 2 is an anthology of twenty short stories from fifteen writers, selected from the popular magazine.

The compilation includes stories from the Legends era and the current continuity, featuring the writing of Timothy Zahn, James S. A. Corey, Jennifer Heddle, and Jason Fry. Some stories feature characters we all know and love: Obi Wan Kenobi, Leia, Lando Calrissian, and even Jace Malcom from the Clone Wars series. Other characters can only be found in the many iterations of Star Wars books, comics, and magazines. But all the stories are exciting.

This is a book any Star Wars fan would appreciate. Artwork from a number of important artists brings the stories to life: Drew Baker, Magali Villeneuve, and Joe Corroney, to name just a few. With battle scenes against an AT-ST, to the grotesqueness of Malgus, and even a glimpse of a nexu, the illustrations that accompany these stories make the adventures more compelling. So, join a TIE fighter squadron, take on a Sith Lord, or become a spy for the Rebellion in this wonderful collection.

Celkově bohužel fádnější než první svazek. Z těžkého průměru až podprůměru přesto vystupuje několik příběhů, které stojí za pozornost: z Legends "Incognito" (Miller), "The Third Lesson" (Kemp), "Hondo Ohnaka's Not-So-Big Score" (Fry), "Heist" (Zahn), "The Syrox Redemption" (Schreiber), z nového kánonu "The Voice of the Empire" (Lafferty, především díky novinářskému tématu).

Last Call at the Zero Angle" chybně uvedený autor - Joe Schreiber namísto Jasona Frye.

A cool set of short stories found in the magazine. I am glad they came out with these so that the stories aren't locked behind a magazine subscription. This one has a mix of both Canon and Legends stories. I think it is weird that they didn't separate them, but oh well. I'd only really recommend this if you want to collect all of the short fiction. The first volume was a bit better than this one when it comes to the stories.

I have the same issue with this volume that I did with the previous one - Legends and Disney canon stories should not be presented in the same collection. It really highlights how much better the older works are. This time, though, I did enjoy one of the newer pieces.

Some neat stories - possibly a better collection than Volume 1.
And 2 stories with Hondo Ohnaka! When do we get a book of just Hondo stories?
