Absolutely could not put this down. I loved the almost detached writing style. I loved the characters. I had to stop to take a breather every now and then to remind myself their fears were not actually my own. Just the type of family saga I adore.
Thank you to @putnambooks for the Advanced Readers copy of this novel. This book was also just released as a BOTM option! I really enjoyed this story of 2 friends growing up together with fathers involved in the same family business (crime). It’s a wonderful story that dives into the challenges of female friendships, marriage, pregnancy and motherhood. The author did a great job of giving us a female perspective of a mafia story and I thought the ending was great.
This book was for me okay. It was very slow at times. I did enjoy how it covered different experiences that women go through when it comes to growing up, marriage and motherhood. The ending was just meh for me wish it was a little better. Not a bad read for a view point from mafia life for women.
This book weaves the tale of a close female friendship with their lives growing up in the mafia. It spans the beginning of WWII to the early fifties. I enjoyed how it explored women’s roles in traditional settings such as being Italian Catholics, but also expressed their longings.
Great debut novel about the Brooklyn Mafia in the 30's and 40's told from a female perspective. Well developed characters. Kept me intrigued from the beginning to end!
