He's flying from danger. She's heading straight for it.
Gabe
Lying low and staying off the radar is a matter of life or death for my family. We escaped just in time to our Scottish hideaway, and safety is far from assured. I shouldn't be flirting with a strong willed lass. But Effie is good for my stubborn, unhappy sister, and spending time with her is no hardship when she sets my pulse racing. I can handle being tormented. I've survived worse.
Effie My love for extreme sports has taught me to be fearless. Gabe wants me, so I'll make him an offer he can't refuse. If I can get him to relax his tight control, sparks are going to fly. But someone is harassing me. Taking pot shots without showing their face. I need to work out who before it escalates and destroys the sanctuary of the very people I want to protect.
Tormented is a friends-with-benefits, can't-stay-away-from-you romantic suspense, with a family on the run and a Scottish estate to hide in. This is the final book in the Wild Mountain Scots series.
JOLIE VINES is a romance novelist who lives in the South West of England with her husband and young son.
From an early age, Jolie lived in a fantasy world and is never happier than when plot dreaming. Jolie loves her heroes to be one-woman guys. Whether they are a huge Highlander, a touch starved earl, or a brooding pilot, they will adore their loved one until the end of time.
Her favourite pastime is wrecking emotions then making up for it by giving her characters deep and meaningful happy ever afters.

Oh my! I have been waiting for Gabe's story for so long! And let me tell you it did not disappoint. Jolie hit Tormented out of the park. I wish i could give it more than five stars. I love Gabe's quiet dominate personality and Effie is such an amazingly strong down to earth female character who is an excellent opposite for Gabe. There is action, comedy, great interaction and amazing steam. This is a definite must read, although it's #5 in the Wild Mountain Scots series, you can read it as a stand alone.
For those that have read the series, you get a peak into some of the McRae's while reading this and it will make your heart happy!
This is a two POV book told by the POV´s of Effie and Gabe.
I liked Effie as an FMC a lot. She was a bit hotheaded and rash sometimes but it really suited her character. I liked how she loved her family so fiercly and made friends so easily. She seems like she would be a great person to be around and she definitely is a girl´s girl. Gabe is kind of like her counterpart, more calm and collected, maybe even a bit stoic. More of a think everything through guy who doesn´t really take risks.
Regarding side characters I just LOVED Ariel and Raphael. And then I find out they have books themselves!? Sign me up right now! I loved the peeks we got into the other couples lives. Especially Max´s and Maddock´s. Although I have to say that I feel like there is barely content on Cameron and Elise anymore after their book ended. I always love the loving, tight-knit family vibes that they have going on.
Regarding the plot I really enjoyed the tension and the high stakes to it. Although I felt like some secrets were left a bit in the open, even as the book ended. I´d argue the romance is more of a medium burn maybe, or maybe you could describe it better as a slow burn with instant attraction. The pacing was really well done, you can expect some spicy scenes in here. Normally I really enjoy the mystery part to these books, this time it felt a bit obvious as to who it was, but it didn´t really bother me.
Overall a great ending to this series, that made me excited for the next!
trigger warnings: stalking, mentions of rape, mentions of organized crime, attempted murder, attempted sexual assault (not caused by the love interest)
What an absolutely divine treat Gabe turned out to be.
The quiet dominant hot Scot that had me always wanting more 💙 Effie - oh my - you were unexpected but oh how I love you too. Your adrenaline junky self is super cute and love how self assured she is, how she goes for what she wants, how strong she is and how she refuses to hide.
I love how well Jolie keeps you guessing and the suspense with the whodunit….
All the family drama is so engrossing and I LOVE how the McRae’s are so protective over their family!!
Such a delight to read and always DEVOUR anything Jolie writes
Gordain (Hero) was the one to hold my heart and not let go. But Gabe may be his competition. Gabe will do anything to protect his family, and he goes to such lengths to do so. Effie is such a strong independent woman that when life comes crashing down, it feels like the universe is coming down around her. She feels the manic coming and needs to jump only to come crashing into Gabe and turn everything upside down. Both know this can’t last but that doesn’t stop them from giving into those feelings. The spice each book seems to get better (the scene in the woods *chefs kiss*) and I can’t wait to see where we go from here. I love how these end in HEA and are just what I need to help me escape for a day.
I have been waiting for Gabe's story and I enjoyed his and Effie's story. It's really suspenseful and of course, full of action as Effie is an adrenaline junkie. But also because she has someone threatening her and Gabe needs to protect his siblings from his father. As I said, their story is really suspenseful that my attention is only drawn to it but not to their romance. Don't get me wrong, they have a connection and tension between them. But I don't feel as much of an emotional connection or romance or it growing between them. I still enjoyed their story and I definitely loved Effie's relationship with Ariel, Gabe's sister.
This story was filled to the brim with drama and suspense, stalkers and jumping off cliffs. Seriously steamy scenes, mixed with wholesome family centered moments, the story grabbed my attention easily and was REALLY hard to set down.
5 Star Review of Tormented (Wild Mountain #5) by Jolie Vines
This is Gabe and Effie’s story and was a good addition to the Wild Mountain series. Although book five in the Wild Mountain Scots story, it can be read as a stand alone although having read the previous book I can recommend them. As with the other books in this series Ms. Vines heroines are not sassy, strong and by no means a pushover. I was fully hooked on this story from the first chapter as the chemistry between Gabe and Effie is intense. There are equal amounts of romance, mystery and suspense with characters who are strong and yet easy to relate too and whose story you cannot help but be drawn into. I admit I was surprised a time or two with the dramatic twists and turns that Ms.Vines woven throughout the story.
We initially met Effie in Perfect Storm when her oldest brother ended up with Skye. So she’s been a part of the MacRae family for quite a while. Gabe joined the family in the past year as a friend of Maddox and is currently hiding out with his two younger siblings.
And these two get along great. But Gabe’s sister bonds with Effie over not liking Gabe and they have to hide their relationship. And both of them realize their relationship has a time limit and they’re both hiding things. So when Gabe steps up to protect Effie from her stalker, Effie ends their secret relationship.
Effie and Gabe get their happy ending in this stand-alone book in a series.
These two were adorable together but also so stubborn. I hated how isolated Ariel (Gabe’s little sister) felt and I was happy she had Effie to talk with. I hope she gets her own happy ending in the future. I also loved how much everyone welcomed Gabe and his siblings into the family and stood by when they were needed.
Another WOW from Jolie and what a way to end this series. This story kept me reading. Who was hunting Effie? Were Gabe and his siblings safe? Lots of sparks, danger, and suspense to keep this story exciting. I loved both Effie and Gabe, their loyalty and protectiveness for their family, and willingness to trust as they came to know each other. I highly recommend this story.
I received an ARC, and this is my unsolicited review.
I had the opportunity to listen to the audiobook. I loved the story again. The narrators, Ella Lynch and Frank Ryan, did a wonderful job, and I really enjoyed the emotional intonations as they read the various parts.
Jolie Vines’ Tormented is stimulating. Set in the world of her Wild Mountain Scots, this story follows Effie, the younger sister of Artair, the MMC of her book, Perfect Storm, and Gabe, the mysterious helicopter pilot from the earlier stories of this series. In Max’s book, Effie and Gabe share a kiss, igniting an attraction that continues to burn into Tormented. Independent and daring, Effie suffers no fools and finds herself in a predicament when she is fired from an adventure company. Gabe is on the run with his younger sister and brother, and he’s intent on protecting them from their father. By happenstance, Effiie meets Gabe’s sister, Ariel, and they connect instantly. As the story progresses, Effie continues to connect with Gabe’s sister and brother, offering them a respite through adventure from their hiding out. Through this, Gabe and Effie cannot deny their combustible chemistry, but both are intent on a temporary connection. As Effie finds herself the focus of a stalker, Gabe wants to protect her, even though Effie believes she can protect herself. Eventually, Gabe and Effie find they have fallen for each other; however, with the expectation of something temporary, is it possible for them to have a future together?
There is so much good about Vines’s newest story. Effie is a modern woman, incredibly independent and able to carve out a space in a male-dominated world. She is fearless and daring, and she goes toe to toe with an alpha male such as Gabe. She’s worthy of Ariel’s veneration and probably one of my favorite Vines heroines. She struggles with vulnerability, but she is able to become so when the story requires it.
Of the two, I had a more difficult time with Gabe. His characterization is clear, but I didn’t feel an attachment to him as I did with Effie. Vines’ depiction of him doesn’t seem as deep as the one for Effie. Therefore, I didn’t attach emotionally to his plight as it felt underwhelming. His attraction and protection of Effie grant his character more dimension. In fact, his role as protector seems to be his most prominent character trait.
My favorite part of Tormented is the way in which Vines draws her Wild Mountain Scots world together. There are moments when you practically hear “Wild Mountain Scots Assemble” when heroes from her past stories come together to help Gabe with the complications of his and Effie’s situation. Having a reminder of the strength of these heroes as “family” will always be the best part of Vines’ Scots, and it’s a highlight of this book.
Jolie Vines’ Tormented is an emotional, exciting story of two people intent on protecting their hearts but drawn to each other beyond all measure. It’s scintillating, $exy, and sensational. If you haven’t met the Scots of her Wild Mountain Scots series, you have a binge-read of it in your immediate future.
- friends-with-benefits to lovers, romantic suspense in the Scottish highlands! single guardian trope! found family! - i don’t want this series to end😭 - i was so angry for Effie at the beginning!! she wasn’t even allowed to defend herself?? - Gordain will just forever have my heart - Gabe and Effie are just so obsessed with each other - Ariel wound me up so much at the beginning it was driving me insane - the stalker chapter was so creepy😭 - this book felt a lot more intense than the other ones (and trust me those ones are intense) - maybe because it’s got the mafia plot?? idk but the stakes felt waaaay higher - the s3x scenes were soooo good - on the edge of my seat for the last 50 pages i tell ya - oh my god this all just got so insane - okay Ariel was a total badass at the end and made up for her annoying behaviour at the beginning - i always feel so smart when i guess the mystery AND I DID - okay so Willow is insane (but i kind of stan her??) - ah ending was cute! - BUT NO EPILOGUE??? AND IT WAS THE LAST OF THE SERIES NUH-UH - i feel like the mafia stuff wasn’t explained as much as it should of - this book was so good!! so fast paced and intense i could not put it down
Effie worked freelance for the company Fall Free, teaching clients paragliding and the like. She loved throwing herself off mountains in her free time as well. It was one of her favourite stress relievers. The other was sex. After denting the pride of the son of her boss at Fall Free, he managed to find a way to get her fired. He’d been handy with his fists so she was more than happy to now block his number. After job hunting online, Effie finds herself with a couple of months of free on her hands. Gabe had successfully rescued his siblings from their dangerous and toxic home. Happy where he is based in the highlands, his teenage sister is going stir crazy until Effie befriends her. He knows he can trust her and it gives Ariel an outlet in more ways than one. His brother Raphael is more understanding about their situation. He was privy to what they’d escaped. But Gabe also knows that things could change at the drop of a hat and they may have to be on the move again. He’s left breadcrumbs all over the world to keep his father preoccupied. But if they have to run, that’s what they’ll do. None of this helps him with his burning desire for Effie. Desire that he knows isn’t unrequited…. On top of his own worries, Effie is being threatened. A dark suburu keeps aggressively following her at night time. She’s sure she’s being tracked but can’t prove it. Both her home and her car have suffered broken windows. Gabe offers her support, protection and an escape from reality. But what they’re both realising is that their hearts might not escape unscathed, however this all ends… Brilliant! This well written and gripping story ties together two characters that are crazy about each other from their first meeting. With sizzling heat that turns scorching, their relationship and support for each other is wonderfully scripted. Gabe’s younger siblings are great characters and throughout the story you never quite know what’s going on, the mystery just out of reach until the very end and this is ironically mirrored by Effie’s own drama. A superb addition to the Wild Mountain Scots Series.
Once again Jolie Vines does not disappoint! I’m obsessed with these Scottish men!
“There came a time in every woman’s life where the only way to handle shite was to jump off a cliff.” Effie is a total bad ass! Even when she is not in control she is still amazing! I’m in awe of her! Gabe has a heart of gold! He does everything for his family and when Effie became part of that, it was amazing to read! I love them so much! It was such a great book to read! You are messing out if you have not read any of these books!
“Now I’m going to say this slowly, because I can tell there’s nothing between your ears but fresh air. You are disgusting, pathetic, dickless predators. The fact that you’re only listening now because I’m holding a gun only proves how fucked-up you are. Do the world a favour and throw yourselves off this cliff.” I need more of Ariel because she has her own fire and her story needs to be told!
Tormented is the fifth book in the Wild Mountain Scots series. This is about Effie, who is obsessed with extreme sports. She’s being harassed and stalked. Someone is following her around without her knowing who it is, somehow knowing where she is at all times. But she is fearless. She’s not afraid of them. Gabe is the shy quiet alpha type. He has rescued his younger siblings from their father and they are hiding out. He is doing everything he can to keep his family safe and hidden. He’s keeping himself at a distance from people that only want to be a friend and understand why he’s keeping them at an arms length.
Alright. We have our heroine, Effie, who’s adventurous, outgoing, and had a shitty childhood. If you’ve read Jolie’s previous books then you’ve already met her. She’s a great friend and is such an independent person. She’s not even afraid of someone stalking her! She didn’t even tell anyone about it because she didn’t think it was a big deal. Damn! This chick is so awesome.
GABE! I met Gabe a few books ago and instantly loved him. He’s so wrapped up in mystery that I didn’t know his story, only that it was a good one. I was hoping he’d get his own book and here we are! I was so excited. Gabe did not let me down. He is easily one of my top favorite characters from any of Jolie’s books. He is a man’s man. An alpha. A pilot. Hot!
Effie and Gabe were instantly attracted to each other. Gabe tried to keep away from her but of course he couldn’t deny the attraction. The spark. Effie is about to take a job far from Scotland but she can’t deny her attraction to Gabe either. She decides they should be friends with benefits. The sex is hot! Jolie does not do fade to black. We get all the juicy details.
Let’s not forget about the mystery. This book is FULL of mystery. Effie’s stalker and whatever Gabe is running from and keeping his siblings safe from. There’s just so much going on in this book. I couldn’t put it down because I needed to know what was going on. Who was harassing Effie? Who was Gabe’s dad involved with that was so dangerous?! Nonstop suspense.
Jolie is an amazing author. There hasn’t been one book of hers I haven’t loved. I love meeting new characters but she always has past characters in each book as well. As I’m falling in love with new people, I’m falling more in love with people I’ve already met. This is a HEA and stand alone book but I strongly recommend starting with Marry the Scot series and working your way through her books in the order she wrote them.
I recommend this book to anyone honestly. Tormented has a little bit of everything to please any reader.
*I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book*
This is a story about Gabe and Effie. They both have had a tough life. Gabe’s father is involved in dangerous activities (which threaten the safety of Gabe and his younger siblings. Effie grew up in on Northern Scotland Island with her two brothers and a mentally ill mother. Gabe and Effie meet at the McCrea estate along with Gabe’s sister and brother. Gabe is flying helicopters for Godain McCrea’s rescue/ taxi service. Effie works at the extreme sports facility as a contract instructor. Right off, Gabe and Effie feel a strong sexual attraction. Gabe is in denial but Effie wants a casual fling.
Effie was recently fired from her previous job. She feels that she was set up by the boss’s son because she wouldn’t have sex with him. Effie moves to her brother’s home outside the McCrea estate to housesit while his family is on vacation. On the way she discovers she is being followed. I love this story of Gabe and Effie. Gabe is trying to make sure that his siblings don’t live the life that he did when he was their age. Effie just wants to live her life with less complications and more extreme sports. Effie gets close to Gabe by spending time with his 14-year-old sister. She spends more time with him than she anticipated doing. Gabe tries to fight the attraction he feels for her but they end up meeting in secret places and the attraction grows. In true Jolie Vines fashion this story includes a bit of everything I like: I love that the story mostly takes place on the McCrea estate. There is the interaction with characters from the previous books and growing friendships, dangerous situations, mystery, and of course lots of sexual tension and sexual action. I would highly recommend Tormented for your reading pleasure.
Oh wow, the final instalment in the Wild Mountain Scot series did not disappoint.
We pick up the story a little while after Betrayed ended, and Gabe is living in the Tower with his rescued siblings Ariel and Raphael, terrified that they will be discovered, he is controlling their every move, causing Ariel to hate everything about their situation and her brother. When Effie visits the McRae estate, the pull between her and Gabe is a strong, but Gabe who is reluctant to make ties to the estate or the people he views as family, tries to keep her at arms length. Ariel quickly bonds with the adventurous Effie, and as Effie tries to fill their days with fun, Gabe finds it harder to fight their growing attraction. But not all is what it seems, someone is following Effie and damaging her home and car. Gabe is torn between protecting his siblings and Effie. Can Gabe let down his walls and let the McRae's in, can he protect Effie and his brother and sister. This is a slow build of tension, intrigue and passion which concludes in a typical Jolie Vines explosive showdown. If you've read all the other McRae stories, don't miss this one, because Gabe's surname may not be McRae he is still well and truly a member of this amazing family.
I knew I was gonna love Gabe. I just didn't know how much! From the first moment we were introduced to him he was a mystery. A mystery that was intriguing and I just knew I wanted his story. I was not disappointed. This man is shrouded in unknowns and I just couldn't stop until I got all my answers. He went to extremes for all his sibling. Though I have to admit I would have loved to knock some sense into Ariel.. then again that's how spoiled teenagers act. They never see the whole picture or appreciate the sacrifices made until they are older.
Then we have Effie. I'm gonna be honest here and say while I like Effie was never 100% sold on her. I'm still not to be honest. I felt more love radiating off Gabe than I did from Effie. Yes, she was strong and determined. She wanted to stay independent and not rely on anyone (not even her family (both her brothers and the McRae's.. which actually made me a bit sad). She was determined to not "be like her mom and sister." But I think she was way to head strong. She kept thinking she knew what was best and that this "person" harassing her was going to be put off. But apparently she never talked to anyone in the family or she would have realized how serious of a situation this was. She also kept fighting her feelings for Gabe because of his situation. They never truly talked. And while I know part of that was Gabe's fault and how he always handled his past I wish she had actually spoken up.
I did love this book. I always enjoy going back to castle McRae and seeing how my old favorites are doing. I'm glad to see that Gabe and his siblings have finally found a safe home. I'm glad Effie can have her happily-ever-after, like her siblings. I'll miss the McRae's but maybe we can see more of them down the line? Ben sounds like he needs someone. 😁
*I voluntarily read an advanced copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review*
I've been waiting for Gabe's story, and I was not disappointed!
Wow! What a heavy responsibility he's been carrying on his stoic shoulders! He's just recently rescued his teenage brother and sister from the untenable situation from which he himself escaped years earlier, only keeping them safe involves keeping off the radar, effectively in hiding.
Effie is Artair's and Brodie's youngest sister, a fearless force on her own who just lost her job due to the boss's son showing his true creepy colors. She and Gabe are pure fire together, a situation that soon develops into a FWB arrangement. She's also picked up a stalker, which propels Gabe from "this is a temporary fling" straight into "I must protect her at all costs" and that right there is the kind of swoon-worthy stuff I love reading in this author's stories.
Gabe's relationship with Gordain and through that the rest of the McRaes was so satisfying to see, especially as it contrasted with his own family story. I adore how this extended family group always rides to each other's defense, no questions asked. Including a crossover character from "Come the Fall" was a brilliant move, one that fit perfectly into Gordain's new venture as well as providing exactly what Gabe needed in this story.
Effie's relationship with Ariel was very nicely done, and I was so very happy to see that Effie was able to avoid the "curse" that usually dogged the Longstaff siblings. Much respect to the author for how she handled the other family curse - I thought that was extremely well done, showing Effie's inner turmoil as well as her realistic if not always healthy ways of dealing with it.
I did shake my head a little at Effie going paragliding less than a week after dislocating her shoulder, but I reminded myself that this is fiction, after all, and that can include the laws of healing. We get a lovely HEA for Gabe and Effie, even with an almost-too-easy resolution to his family's drama. If you've read any of the Wild Mountain Scots, you don't want to miss this one. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
First off aloe Jolie’s books are amazing. The thrill in this one. My god! I wasn’t sure where it was going at points. I thought Gabe’s dad was the one harassing Effie. But to find out he has a heart! Floored! Right from the start Crusty Worm needed to be kicked in the junk. Small Dick energy radiates off of him . Josh was sleazy .
My fave part is when Gabe finally stopped trying to do it all on his own and asked our beloved McRea’s to help.
Effie is a badass and I love her.

Tormented. This book is so very appropriately titled. It made me happy, it made me sad, it made me nervous and it made me want to finish it right way while savoring it at the same time. I have become a huge fan of Jolie Vines books since I stumbled upon them a few months ago, and I have a soft spot for the Wild Mountain Scots. Lochie's was the first book of hers that I've read, and I was hooked from the start. I was so happy to hear that we were going to get Gabe's story, because if there's anything I love more than a hunky Scot, it's a mysterious, grumpy, hunky Scot. Gabe did not disappoint. He was strong and smart and devoted to those he loved. SO devoted. Gah. Throughout the previous books we've learned a little bit about Gabe's history here and there, but never the whole back story. While there was not anything very surprising (other than Willow... did not see THAT coming), it was good to get the basics of what had happened to him and how that made him the man he became. Effie was so refreshing and unexpected. She was not your typical romance heroine. Sure, she fit right in with that rambunctious bunch of McRae's, but she was just...more. She was mouthy and independent and not afraid to face her challenges head on. Except for the challenge of Gabe. She did not prepare herself for how deep she got in with him, and she could not navigate her way through it to save her life. Honestly I wanted to bonk her on the head with something most of the time. She did not shy away from anything in her life... except for her feelings for him. Those two did not have an easy road to travel, and the author made me feel like *I* was working for their happy ever after just as much as they were! The suspense was done well and added just enough angst without being unbelievable. I laughed and I cried and I fell in love with Effie and Gabe. Jolie Vines is a master of her craft. Her writing is impeccable and she knows how to give the reader exactly what they want: a fabulous setting, intriguing plot and an amazing cast of characters that I would love to know in real life. I wish there were going to be a hundred books in this series!
Effie had thus far lived life as an extension of her chasing the adrenaline of jumping into the air and landing hard back to Earth, or into the man who had left her wanting after a New Year's Eve kiss... When she found herself in a different kind of adrenaline situation, she'd love to turn to the man who left her wanting.
~My jaw dropped. He'd sexy-flirted. Out loud.
~My dark-haired man understood the assignment.
Gabe has been taken in by one of the MacRae men, given a safe place to hide, and a temporary place to bring his siblings... But trying to keep his teen sibling safe has proved harder work than he thought. When a lass he can't get off his mind starts helping out with the teens, he knows he's in for a rough ride. When the lass is threatened, it brings his past to the front.
~I had no idea what I was doing with Effie, but I absolutely wanted to do it again.
Oh that slow build up to panicking over something being more dangerous than you originally thought, along with the something that was supposed to be a once and done! Whew!
Effie is one great, headstrong, and fierce woman to read. One can see how parts of her personality were a little off putting for Mr. Shy Gabe! But this love story came together really nicely.
What a wonderful way to end the Wild Mountain Scots series! I have been wanting a book for Gabe, since he appeared in "Stolen." This book brought mystery with the hidden past of Gabe and thrills from the high energy sports loving Effie. If you have the Wild Scots series prior to this series, you'll love seeing past characters and visiting the island of Duine again.
Jolie brought it all in this book. Mystery, thrill, suspense, a strong heroine with attitude, steamy romance and or course some of our beloved McRae clan.
Tormented (Wild Mountain Scots #5) by Jolie Vines is a contemporary friends-with-benefits romantic suspense told in first person dual POV. It is the fifth book in the Wild Mountain Scots series and can be read as a standalone, although readers of the series will have already met the main characters. Tormented follows the relationship between Gabe, a helicopter pilot in hiding with his teenage siblings, and Effie, an extreme sports guide who may have a dangerous stalker on her trail.
I loved Gabe and Effie’s story! Having read the previous books in the series, I’d been looking forward to it and waiting for them to get together. Tormented did not disappoint. Gabe and Effie are strong, well-developed characters, and their chemistry is off the charts—HAWT! Their steamy romance is full of fun, adventure, mystery, and suspense. This is the last Wild Mountain Scots book (or is it?), and I don’t want to say goodbye to this world and its characters. I highly recommend this series!
Gabe and Effie have an undeniable attraction to each other, however neither believe they should act on it as Gabe has secrets and Effie is leaving after having to find a new job away from home. I just loved how these two were weary of how they feel about each other but slowly give in to temptation as well as open up to each other so they get to know the real them. They both have issues to deal with both the present and passed and the more time they spend together either just the two of them or with his siblings Ariel and Raphael the more they connect and you along with them which in turn makes you worried about when the other shoe will drop and who for first! This is definitely a page turner where you don't know what will happen next, you want to know who the bad guys are as well as Gabe and Effie's past and if they can make it together.
Okay…I have to say this wasn’t my favorite Wild Mountain Scots book, but that ending ranks right up there with one of the best! I struggled with the first few chapters of Tormented because it didn’t keep my attention—dare I say I kept spacing out and had to reread the same pages? This start just didn’t feel like a Jolie Vines start…
But once I got past the first few chapters—it picked up and I zipped through the rest. The storyline was good once it got going. Give me intrigue, car chases, hot sex and I’m good. Extreme sports are a turn on as well. 😉 The new characters for this book were not bad—you wanted to kick their proverbial as**s from the start! Plot twists and turns? Oh baby, they were awesome once the story got rolling. You definitely don’t see what’s coming at the end. That ending is definitely Jolie at her best.♥️ What about the HEA, you ask? Man oh man…it’s so dang good!!
While it may not have started out fast enough for me personally, this is a really good read. You need to grab your copy today and read it more than once. It’s a keeper for your library! (I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book and am glad I did. It’s a keeper.) ❤️❤️
Oh, Gabe! I knew his story was going to be a good one!
"I might be the target of some stranger, but Gabe Gordonson's affection was far more dangerous."
Gabe Gordonson has a secret - a matter of life and death. Effie Longstaff is out of a job and killing time before her next gig. Both are under threat. However, are their hearts in the biggest danger?
"In every way, she blew my mind. Her boldness, her braveness, her good heart. Her f*cking radiant sexuality. I'd never met anyone like her before."
Oh my gosh! The tension and attraction between Gabe and Effie was electric! I absolutely loved their connection - so compelling and undeniable. This was such a fab story. I enjoyed the mystery of Gabe and the mysterious threat to Effie. I loved how the McRaes came together and supported Gabe. This story was feel-good, hella hot, and thrilling. Adored it!
Oh my word, Jolie Vines, you just keep getting better and better! It’s amazing to me how you blended these two stories together.
Effie, a young woman working hard to establish her own business, is facing prejudices long held by many males when they don’t see women as equals. On top of that, she has a stalker; and, he’s escalating! Who is it? Will she be able to come out on top?
Gabe is young man running from his dangerous father and his family’s far reaching connections. He has rescued his teen siblings from his father and is facing the fight of his life. Can he protect them, create a new life for them, and rescue Effie?
My all time favorite male character, Gordain, appears in this book! He continues to have such a calming presence while using his knowledge and vast resources to help people in dangerous situations. You definitely don’t want to miss this book!
Jolie did it again with her eloquent writing! Jolie is a wonderful writer and I feel each book she writes has its own edge. So worth the wait for Gabe and Effie's story! They are a great balance for each other. Tormented torments you with the realistic drawn out love story. Their story is so relatable, so worth the read. Would love to see Gabe's sister and brother get their own happily ever afters!
I love the whole Scot series from beginning to now but need more! For all of us that love happy ever afters, Jolie Vines can certainly serve them up with a slice of suspense, danger and sparks flying everywhere. Loved Gabe’s and Effie’s story and really love Ariel and Rafael and can’t wait to see what kind of trouble they get into in the future.
