Alpha wolf Jazz Zendell lost his true mate as a teen and has no hope of finding another. Marcy was the only one. Betrayed by his own father, she was taken from him before they had a chance to seal their bond.
Now his days are filled helping his best friend Desmon manage the Nightwind pack. The work is rewarding enough for a werewolf destined to be alone…until a mysterious werewolf hunter shows up. More intriguing, the hunter is a human woman with strange connections to his long-lost mate. Rather than seek revenge, Jazz sets out to find the mysterious human and protect her before the werewolf hunting gets her killed.
Shawna Hensky has been hiding from her past for a long time. After a brutal attack at the hands of a werewolf, she has spent years hunting the worst shifters possible to protect others from the same horrible fate. She, more than anyone, knows not all weres are bad—since she was raised by werewolves. She even loved one once, in another life, before that dream was ripped from her.
When she learns her brother was killed at the hands of a werewolf, Shawna’s hunt takes her to a territory fraught with bad blood and secrets—and directly into the arms of a wolf whose cursed past and uncertain future collide with her own.
I had a rather short area here telling a little about me but then I had more than a few people ask me to expand it so... here goes. LOL. I'm a full time home 'supervisor' which is a nice word for saying I'm a housewife. I'm married happily, I met my dream guy 20 years ago, and we have 4 children. I live in Southern California and I can't function without iced coffee. I believe in romance, I've always been a daydreamer, and I'm a HUGE fan of books, always have been.
No, I didn't know that I always wanted to write. I inhaled books as a child. I read entire series (Pippi Longstocking, Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys, Trixie Beldon, The Borrowers, etc) in a matter of days at a time. By the time I was nine years old I had an adult library card where I visited often. I moved on to John Saul, Stephen King, Richard Laymon, Agatha Christie, and then found romance. I was hooked. I wrote poetry in my teens and then moved on to short stories. My first book was started after I read a real bomb of a book that ticked me off with really horrible characters and a plot that was shabby at best and I thought... I could do better. LOL.
I wrote my first book which will probably never see the light of day in the early 90's. I wrote a series of a few books from it. I'm a series fan! I kept writing for fun, wrote MANY books and then in 2009 I decided to try to get published. I wrote my first Sci Fi romance and Ral's Woman came to be. I submitted it and with a little tweaking, Ellorascave sent me an acceptance letter. It was kind of a 'Cinderella' experience for me. It's been a terrific ride so far and I'm really happy that I finally had the time to commit to writing full time. It's a dream come true.
It had all the elements to be good but … it just wasn’t.
I don’t know where it went wrong .. maybe in the fact that the plot didn’t let the actions of the characters settle before moving onto the next piece of story/action. There was no tension - in a story that was all about second chances, mates who were apart and thought of as dead reuniting, enemies trying to destroy the peace they have found and they have to fight for themselves and their pack… the heroine was strong, self reliant. I mean, it was all there but i felt very detached reading it. Not good. Not good at all.
Story: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Trope: second chance Angst: 😱😱 Smexy: 🔥🔥🔥1\2
Another great, action-packed story in what's been a fabulous series. So fast paced! Love both of the MCs and all the supporting characters, wish they could all have their stories told. Super excited for the next book!
Their love story began when they were very young. From the first moment Jeremiah protected Marcy from other bullies, he knew she was his mate. But his father, alpha of the Nightwind pack, had other ideas, and he didn't want his only son mating with a human. And that's why she was killed in an ambush.
Jazz, now second-in-command in the pack, could never forget Marcy. He'd spent years looking for her, and though they'd never found a body, he knew she was dead. Her family had moved out of town after the tragedy.
One of the were is attacked in a bar by a human female. She went after justice. Her brother had been killed while trying to defend a human from being raped. She kills the werewolf with silver bullets, and she becomes known - and feared - in town as a were-hunter. Shawna was only there for that mission, she didn't want to—and couldn't—stay in town. And when she's hurt and taken to Jazz, a painful truth appears.
The Goodwin clan wishes to expand their land by taking the land from Nightwind. War is declared. 5 stars
What a totally amazing book!! I just absolutely loved it from beginning to end. Okay, so I am absolutely in LOVE with this series and I really enjoyed reading about the progress the Nightwind pack is making with expanding its numbers with some AWESOME characters (hello Riley brothers!) Loved jazz and there storyline was awesome reading. Omg can’t wait for kade story…
This book had so much potential. It was really a good story. For the most part, I was entertained and I liked the main characters. Mostly. Shawna was annoying at times.
IMO, the execution, well, I should just say the writing was just not good. That hurts me to say that because I love Laurann Dohner. I usually think her books are weird and wonderful. I've read them all. And I also think it needed a lot more editing. There were a lot of mistakes. Like spelling Benny with a y the first time then ie at other times when referring to the same person. Same with the name Shawna. Sometimes it was just Shawn. Those types of things really affect my reading experience. Maybe it was the writing duo that didn't work as well for me.
Oh well. It was entertaining and I will certainly be reading Ms. Dohner the very next time she releases a book. Especially if it's New Species! Happy reading!
Overall I liked it but I prefer the New Species series by Laurann Dohner.
PSOIELR SPOILER PSOILER SPOIERL SPOILER SPOILER
Heroine hunts bad werewolves who hurt humans and other werewolves. Her former boyfriend's father had her gang raped and scarred as a Pack whore when she was a teenage human. Her boyfriend thinks she is dead. She decided never to tell him she was alive so he wouldn't get hurt by his dad. She doesn't know he and his best friend killed his dad and all the other men who raped her.
Once he finds out she is alive, that's it. He does anything and everything to be her mate.
This story about Jazz and Shawna was really exciting. She was a were-hunter for the last years and he is 2nd in command of the Nightwind Pack who never gave up trying to find her. They each have a lot of baggage but before they could figure things out. They had a war with the Good-Win Pack coming up.
Couldn't put it down! The connection built on respect, love, and camaraderie bw the main couple was spot on, and both were fierce characters in their own right too. The story immediately draws you in and moves briskly along. I had not read the previous two books in this series, but had no problem following.
Random read and loved it! H & h meet when they are kids. h was adopted by were parents after h parents were killed in an accident. h is human. H claims h as his mate and waits to claim her when she’s 18. At 16 is assaulted by H father and his enforcers after being lured away by H father. He also tricks his son and sons best friend so they aren’t around when it happens. H comes back and kills enforcers and his best friend kills his father as he’s injured by his fight. They take over the pack where his friend is the alpha and he’s shares leadership bc he doesn’t want the responsibility. h is taken away by her were parents and hides her with new identity for her own protection. At 18 she leaves this protection and begins her journey training to be a badass were hunter. She only hunts weres that do bad things like what happened to her. Meanwhile H spends many years looking for h…eventually believing her dead. They cross paths again 16 years later after she kills merl a bad were who killed her adopted brother ralph. Jason part of H pack reports killing of merl to jazz who goes to track down this were hunter. He eventually recognises her but she escapes him again. He tracks her down with the help of his pack and claims her. She does fight it bc she’s marked by his father. If you are marked that means you a were whore basically open game for anyone. She didn’t want H to spend his time always having to defend her. I love this story bc h was not some weak ass MC. Despite the tragic events that happened. She found a purpose. She married twice - both to good men. The first one ended in divorce but rather good friends where he continued to look out for her. Eventually admitting h was young and stupid for letting her go. Her second husband died of cancer but they spent 14 happy months together. He also set her up for life. She had a good life leading up to her reunion with H. She doesn’t put up with shit. There is evidence that H has been with a lot of women, one OW who did cause a little bit of drama. No cheating. But H spent some grovel time. He also had his own jealously issues when h friends and ex husband come to the fold. For those who want to read about two good MC where it’s balanced and not a female lead who has a shit life end to end , celibate for the whole time and is kick ass - this is a yes book!
It was an okay read for me. The storyline was alright, and so was the romance.
**spoiler** How sweet - the hero had pined for his heroine for years… but then it turns out he was hooking up with LOADS of women and quite a few had keys to his house 🙈 So much for being broken-hearted 😂 On the other hand I was happy to see that the heroine lived her life without the hero, even to the point of being married, and *gasp* he was a good man and they are still friends. This is a rare find in romance novels.
Fav quote: “I may have been married twice, but I never had a string of men climbing into my bed.” She glared up at him. “I didn’t hand out my house keys like a doctor does lollipops.” 😅
***spoiler*** I also didn’t understand why the hero had ‘changed’ a few women? I would’ve liked the reasons to be explained. It was sad for me to think that it wasn’t all that special since he’s done it a few times before, for other women that he likes and was continuing to sleep with.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Other than too many and too long sex scenes (which I skim), it touched all of the bases for me. Likeable m and f main characters, some good action fight scenes, and a good backstory for the couple.
Loved the progression of the Nightwind pack’s storyline
Okay, so I am absolutely in LOVE with this series and I really enjoyed reading about the progress the Nightwind pack is making with expanding its numbers with some AWESOME characters (hello Riley brothers!) as well as the new development with the Alliance; however, I wasn’t in love with Shawna’s character. She was rash and flighty when it came to her actions and decisions and no matter how much reassurance Jazz gave her she just wouldn’t listen. I also thought the push/pull between her and Jazz just took longer than it needed to. Felt a little dragged out. This frustrated me a little bit, but in the end I guess the volatility of her character made sense as she was still traumatized from a past life-threatening, violent experience. And she is also an alpha and they tend to be really headstrong so I get it…it’s explainable but I just had a harder time connecting with this heroine. I DID like how bad*** she was in the pack fights, though. So glad they added a really strong female in this sense to the pack!
Overall, I still liked this book and I absolutely ADORE the development of the secondary characters and the world-building. I am so wrapped up in this I always can’t WAIT for the next book! Hope the next one comes out soon.
I LOVED THIS BOOK! Jazz met his match. Shawna is a certified bada$$. I love this second chance aspect. This couple fought for their HEA. I like how the two past couples are reintroduced and integrated into the story. I like how she let him know there is a new sheriff in town. Things about to change. Bachelor days are GONE! She was so feisty, smart mouth and attitude for days. The secondary characters like the new pack members and Miles.. drool worthy. I had hoped we got his story next but I want to see so much more. This author just keeps getting better and better. I keep waiting for the story to be recycled but she keeps it fresh. I’m a HUGE fan of hers, hope to meet her one day. I drop everything when her books come out. I always preorder so it can just appear. I have read ALL of her books and they are all so good. I highly recommend this book and series!
Okay. Now, this is the kind of book I am used to from Laurann. This was action and emotions. Jazz lost his mate a long time ago, so he has just been doing his job keeping his head down. But his world is about to change when Shawna comes to town.
Talk about a kick-butt heroine. She is fearless. I love that she is this way, but I hate why she is that way. It's a catch-22, that is for sure.
Jazz and Shawna's connection never left. It took mere moments for them to get back in the groove.
I am excited to see where book four will go now they have new members to the pack. But also the Goodwind pack and everything that went down with them we are going to have to listen and see how it will be. I am still not 100% on board with the narrator, but it is still better than the first.
#RomanticSuspense #Paranormal #Shifter Written in third person from an alternating dual POV, this action-packed book ends with a HEA. Though Jazz and Shawna’s story is contained in this book, readers will want to read this series in order due to an over-arching plot through the series. I have a serious girl crush on Shawna. She is a warrior, a survivor, and a true bada$$. She has taught herself how to defend herself out of necessity and I adored her. Jazz is a kindhearted alpha who is 100% committed to Shawna. I loved their chemistry and their banter. I also really loved Shawna’s relationship with other pack members, especially Jason. There is a lot of action in this one and I couldn’t put it down.
This story was an improvement. Jazz was so much more enduring and faithful to his first love. However , Marcy was truly traumatized. This story moved at a good pace. Ms Dohner's voice came through in this story whereas it was muted in the previous installment. The timeline was unnecessarily long and the reasoning was Super weak. The only weak points are the plot points involving Marcy's parents and the reasoning for staying away. If you can suspend your disbelief, the story is enjoyable. I read it over a holiday and was in a forgiving mood. Other the new and improved Shawna would have been criticized for her exes. Overall, it was good escapism.
I enjoyed the first two books in the series, and I’m always a sucker for the whole “younger forbidden lover, meet as adults” trope, but I found this one a little lacking.
The book had things that were brought up that I wish they had expanded on, but they just went nowhere with no information. I personally didn’t see how the two clicked after trauma and not seeing each other for two decades and being almost completely different people with completely different names than when they originally knew each other.
For how long the book was, it didn’t have a lot going for it. Plus, I felt like it was pretty repetitive.
Shawna Paltner can’t believe she back In Hallow Mountain she fled 16 years ago but now she hunting a bad wolf. This wolf raped a human and kill her brother now she going to make him pay. When she lived in Hallow Mountain with her adopted family she was a human living around werewolves but after a incident with the alpha at the time she wants nothing to do with it. She was know as Marcy but to her Marcy is gone she’s Shawna. Jazz is going to catch this Hunter and when he does he’s going to find out the truth. And that going to shake up his life. So enjoy another very good read!!
I just love when two people manage to find their way back to earth other after such a devastating tragedy! The author’s did not disappoint with this latest installment in the series. Jazz finally found his love, and it’s everything I had hoped for. She is a strong independent woman with just the right amount of softness with the right person. There are growing pains as they make the way to their HEA, and triggers for some people, but the ending is well worth the journey and I can’t wait to see what happens with this pack next.
CURSED (Nightwind Pack Book 3) by Laurann Dohner & Kele Moon & I started to read this book as soon as I finished Shattered Book 2. Each book in this 4 book series is about a different couple!
CURSED is about Shawna Paltner who never thought she would return to Hallow Mountain. She'd fled sixteen years ago and swore she would never return. She had actually fallen in love with a teen werewolf years ago. She thought this was behind her, till it was him! All grownup and had saved her. Jeremiah (Jazz) Adam Zackary Zendell who had been her savior. And this time he never planned to let her go.
Would have rated it higher but it's basically all about women being raped by bad werewolves and saved by good werewolves and Marcie going on and on and on and on about how she couldn't be mated because she was raped by the werewolves dad. It was kind of repetitive and dumb. The jealousy was kind of juvenile. I didn't care for the male werewolf, Jazz. He was verbally abusive. He had the ick. Very overbearing and bossy. He would drive me nuts. The heroine was ok, she just had bad taste in men
No plot spoilers No potential triggers although there is reference to rape and attempted sexual abuse There are a couple of errors but nothing to get irritated about The characterisation is good, more than enough to allow the reader to suspend belief and get into the story. The plotline is a continuation from the previous book. There are some sex scenes and some swearing. If you are a fan of the genre I have no problem recommending the series
I expected more from this book. The synopsis was so good and so are the characters but I just expected more action and more emotional development. I felt that Shawna forgave Jazz way too easily. She was also portrayed as a badass but when it mattered, she turned out to be just a damsel in distress. Their issues were big but solved way too easily. I think this book could have been executed better.
This author never fails to deliver a great story. Shawna's story is fast paced, lots of action around every corner and steamy romance. Jazz is very possessive once he finds Shawna again and he is enraged when he finds out everything his father did to Shawna. They have a few hurdles to get through before they claim each other fully but the love had never waned over their years apart.
I continue to read this series because I usually like ms Dohners writing, but this series just isn’t my ‘cup of tea’. I really gave it a go, but it is too brutal environment and backstory for me to enjoy. In some parts story feels broken up, fractured. This author is on my auto read list, but sorry, this one certainly won’t make my favorites list.
No recollection again! Between all rhe books and the years, 2016 the first book and we are on book 3, it will have to be extremely memorable to remember. I think I remembered the scene with the alpha were Desmond and Jazz fight and the drama of it all. It was nice and I expect more because I love the authors so much!
