I love the book recommendations given towards the end and I love reading the entire book. I will reread it whenever I need some real work to be done. Once or twice will never be enough.
This book illustrates the importance of having good habits in our life and provides practical approaches to build them. Traits of healthy behaviors that prevent us from becoming ‘Mindless Drones’ in this age of social media are well explained. This book suggests effective ways in keeping track of our progress by building inner sense of accountability and also how to re gain the momentum without being guilty when we seem to fall off track.
He talks not about changing habits to have a specific outcome like becoming a millionaire, but as actual behaviors to improve quality of life.
You need to decide which habits are worth it to you. Maybe someone is success getting up earlier or running every day, but is this what will make you successful? Maybe not. The important thing to remember is about will it improve the quality of your life. If you do these things you need to have a why? Why are you implementing new habits. Habits won't stick if there isn't a purpose behind them.
You need to form one habit at a time. Focus on one thing per area of your life at a time.
Quitting habits is different. You need to go cold turkey on bad habits like complaining, overworking, and worrying.
Set the bar low on doing big things. Basically by do small things each day this will add up to the big thing you want to accomplish. For example, if you want to read x books per year then start with one page per day.
When I picked this book up I felt like it was just another differently written sam-old rumination on habits; nothing I didn't already know. And for the most part that was the case but I found I had actually enjoyed it when I finished it. It was written in a very simple, lucid flow that felt like a friend was sharing advice with you. It outlines just five simple steps for habit formation. What I found riveting was the part on breaking bad habits. Most books tell you break bad habits one by one but Mr. Foroux says that you must get rid of them all at once so you can start building good habits on-by-one from a clean slate. Decent book, give it a go.
I'm giving this three stars because personally, I would've given it a one, but I recognize I'm not the target audience for it. I didn't find anything new in it, anything I haven't heard before. But if you're venturing out into the world of habit building just now, it's a decent synopsis of many key ideas and concepts.
The list of book suggestions at the end added a few new ones to my list!
The author, a lover of Stoicism and Eastern philosophy, presents convincing arguments for developing better habits. He emphasizes that Nirvana, or Nibbana, is about avoiding unpleasant things and letting go of the desire for pleasant ones, highlighting that good habits shield us from the distractions caused by overly crowded environments or demanding people. Quoting Aristotle, he reminds us, *"We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence is not an act, but a habit."* To build effective habits, the author advises starting small, picking a habit combined with a specific goal, eliminating bad habits, and continuously tracking progress. For instance, reading a book as a habit not only improves discipline but also enhances persuasion skills, enabling readers to discover new ideas and communicate effectively. He stresses the importance of lifelong learning, stating, *"You die when you stop learning."* For motivation, one can track progress or reflect on past successes, while avoiding the "all-or-nothing" mentality that discourages people when they miss a habit streak. Missing one day is not a failure; instead, one should focus on returning to the habit. The author also emphasizes the importance of clarity when forming habits, specifying *what*, *when*, and *how* they will be performed, such as *"Read a book at 10 PM using a Kindle reader."* Drawing from personal experiences, including lessons from his grandfather, he underlines the transformative power of habits. He also references Jeff Bezos, who endured Amazon’s profitless early days by focusing on long-term growth, suggesting that readers adopt a similar mindset for sustainable success. Additionally, the author encourages maintaining a journal to track key aspects of life such as waking and sleeping times, meals, and lessons learned, reinforcing consistency and reflection as the cornerstones of habit-building.

The most difficult part of growing as a person is changing your habits. The human mind finds a certain comfort in repeated actions and following a known path, which includes the habits that might be a hindrance to your success and peace.
Will Durant, said it best: 'We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.' This book provides a framework for kicking our bad habits and picking the ideal ones till they become lasting habits that change your life. All this while dealing with distractions and challenges.
The book shows us a different way of living. One that's not about chasing success, but peace of mind, clarity and constructive energy. That's the best thing you can do for yourself.
The book lucidly provides a simple framework for transforming habits to embark on a different way of living by focusing on habits that set us free and charts our lives in thought out direction. Good things in life require time and energy to build. Good habits serve as a shield against forces that pull us in the undesirable direction. Living good life is very much possible by forming good habits and practising with regularity. To ensure success, the author recommends we form one good habit at a time, and quit all bad habits at a time. We need to track the progress and thereby be conscious of what we are trying to achieve. The book clearly brings out how a good life can be built on a strong and sustained foundation of good habits.

“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.”
TL;DR — cheat sheet for better habits 🤓 1. Pick your ideal habits 2. Form one habit at a time (per area) — “when you do many things at the same time, you end up in chaos” 3. Set the bar very low — “before we do something big, let’s start small.” 4. Quit all your bad habits 5. Keep track of your progress.
if you come across some self help books, this book may be repetitive, but won't make you tired or bored. it's a crisp to make you revise all your known habit forming and unlearning bad habits.
but the habit of forming discussed here seems promising. let's give it a try, because it's a small book to cover in a short time.
Darius Foroux provides a thorough five-step process on how to eliminate bad habits and integrate good habits into our lives. There will be friction and resistance in implementing these changes but he quotes Woody Allen's popular line, "Eighty percent of success is showing up."
This is my second book of Darius. He gives very insightful knowledge of his reading in brief manner. If your short in time, you can read it otherwise go for the books he mentioned in the end.
In my opinion, this book is full of practical advice anyone can apply to their own life. It is short, clear, and easy to read. I highly recommend this for anyone looking to make changes in their life but unsure how or where to start.
It's an easy-to-read guide for anyone who wants to improve their life by developing better habits based on five practical steps: Pick your ideal habits, Form one habit at a time, Set the bar very low, Quit all your Bad habits & Keep track of your progress.

Fantastic book to refer for inner conflicts of thoughts
Book is based on practical experience and moreover tested through thick and thin of authors.. Book is truly helpful to understand the concept on which it is based upon.
The best thing about his works is he manages to deliver different contents in each of his works. Of all the books I tried to read of an author, I got the same content portrayed in different ways.
It's in very lucid language about life habits productivity Darius in an amazing writer he has given how he quit bas habits and focus on progress not result.
The advice at its core is decent. Most of it just seemed repetitive. Like he took earlier parts and just reworded or straight copy and pasted it to later sections.
