An elderly yakuza is murdered and wakes up in the body of a princess in a fantasy world… well, that sure has to be one of the more original Isekai plot-lines I've ever heard.
I wish I was more of a fan of this one. I actually kind of like the idea as it's not the same generic young adult protagonist found in this genre of manga. I honestly usually find Isekais to be annoying because they are all so similar and don’t usually come up with something new to really make it worth my time. This is at least interesting enough for a read, but frankly I wasn't a big fan of the artstyle and again the fantasy world isn't overly interesting.
I give it points for the protagonist who is an old school yakuza who still believes in honor (and how he resolves everything in a still very yakuza fashion), but overall still not super impressed. Worth a look, fairly entertaining but not sure if I will continue. 3/5 stars
Mega geil :D
Yakuza and Isekai are two of my favorite manga subgenres so picking this up was a no brainer, this didn't disappoint it was charming throughout.
The story revolves around this old geezer Yakuza, who is challenged by some young punks. It's goes how you'd expected because this is an Isekai after all so he needs to kick the bucket somehow. Then is reborn as a princess and starts beating the hell out of everyone, it's so good! The fact that she is a princess and isn't acting that way is hilariously portrayed, with her knight being shocked throughout as the violence keeps escalating.
This was okay. I didn't love it, but it wasn't bad either.
I love stories about the Yakuza, and mixing them with Isekai was exciting, but this isn't enough to make me continue this series.
An old Yakuza man died after a trap was laid down by his former 'trainee'. He gets reincarnated in another world - but as a woman/little girl princess that runs her mouth and fights like a beast.
The battle scenes were okay, but Bleach, for me, is still better.
21st manga read for my 30 mangas in 30 days challenge
At this point, I think I am feeling burnout from reading manga, so I'm sorry if my reviews are short and sweet, but I want to finish this challenge.
Ryu is a traditional yakuza who is getting older but is determined to keep the new gangsters in line. After being ambushed Ryu awakens in a fantasy realm in the body of Princess Riyû. At first, it seems as if Ryu is out of place in this new role, but is he actually there to fulfill an ancient prophecy to protect the world?
Yakuza Reincarnation falls into the category of mangas that I do not normally pick up, but I found the synopsis intriguing. I am glad that I have been pushing myself to try new genres because I have been liking some of them, and I am sure I will eventually find one that I love. I think the best thing about reading outside of my comfort zone is that I now have more books that I can recommend to other people that may like books like this, and it makes my librarian brain so happy.
tropes: isekai, reincarnation, reincarnated into the opposite gender, strong female heroine
Of the wave of isekai that's flooded shelves the last many years, YAKUZA REINCARNATION manages to be one of the few that is surprisingly interesting. Like its contemporaries it immediately transports the main character to their new life in another world; this time, it happens to be an old, retired yakuza gangster becoming the princess of the fantasy world.
The art manages to keep pace being both we loose and firm. The character designs are well done if seen in other properties and somewhat forgettable. The story...feels like it's banking on the gap between a princess who acts like a Japanese mafia grandpa running through their own hero's journey. The volume ends with the (F)MC beating the magical coke out of the baddies and moving on to face the evil side.
Is YAKUZA REINCARNATION ground-breaking? No. Does it rely on the audience knowing certain tropes? Kind of. If you're a fan of isekai and want more, this is for you. If not, then that's okay.

Isekai, isekai, isekai!!! Gotta love me a bit of isekai!!!
The start of this series is built very nicely as you get to know the MC before the reincarnation, which always adds to the characters' depth. Although once the MC is wisked off to another world, I found them less enjoyable at the start, they eventually warmed on me at the end of this volume, so I'm hoping that continues cause the story so far is rather interesting.
Old fashioned ninkyo yakuza, Ryumatsu, is reincarnated as the fantasy princess, Riyû.
The premise is certainly interesting. There are infinite ways to take a story like this. But, in the end, it’s just another action hero who beats up villains and answers any call for help. Typical. The only difference is that Ryumatsu is more sympathetic. He believes in a person's ability to contribute to society, even after they commit crimes. Reminds me of Batman, in that way.
Got this in a manga subscription box, working on physical book tbr.
This is an interesting story, an old yakuza man. On the brink of death, gets transported (izekaied) to a different world. But put in a young princesses body!? Is an interesting concept, not feeling it enough to continue. But if it ever got animated would probably watch
I actually really enjoyed this! The world building is a bit rushed but intriguing and the body-swap isn’t as annoying as I usually find that trope! Made me lol
It's certainly a treat to see a princess act like an old school yakuza, but it is a little weird that the old man appears to have no feelings about becoming a young woman in another world.
Someone objected to this being in the teen section, so I obviously had to read it. Maybe later volumes get weird, but this was fine. It has potential to be fun.
The art for this manga is what captivated me first, the plot and story writing kept me hooked.
The main character's personality is clear from the start and clearly stays prominent throughout the story. The fight scenes are insane and you can see that the artist has put in hours upon hours of work.
An action packed story with quite some gore. A strong-willed main character. A clear history and world building.
I don't know if it's an effect of me being older but lately, I have found it hard to understand battle scenes in manga. I don't remember what I did when I was younger and reading Bleach, Naruto and One Piece but I must have understood what was going on in the battle scenes, right? Though now that I think about it, at the same time I was reading those mangas, I was watching the anime. Is it that I ignored the drawn battle scenes and simply replaced it with the animated battle scenes? Anyway, I had to get this manga in the paperback version because the ebook version was unavailable in my country. The battle scenes were mostly a blur to me. I had to stop and look at the panels multiple times to understand what was going on but other than that, the plot flowed and I am interested in continuing the series. I also like the author's notes at the end. Having more background on the series made it easier to understand where the plot is going.
2nd reading: Since I already knew how the plot goes, I had an easier time looking at the pictures. It was still hard to understand but the plot is still interesting so I will continue to read this series.
More of a 3.5 star rating; I was very curious going into this first volume since Isekai manga isn’t what I usually read. However, I was pleasantly surprised with Yakuza Reincarnation. I like that despite being from a different world, that the yakuza mentality stick managed to be pretty helpful in the scenarios that were presented to the “Princess”.
