Nocturne Bay

Party Nuts

Rate this book
Sammy Love was the owner of a lingerie store called Oh Là Là Chéri, a store geared mainly towards men. He was a squirrel shifter from a large family and loved life with his three best friends. He loved being able to dress people up and make them feel their absolute best. He felt it was his calling in life to show people how to be true to themselves, no matter what others told them they had to be.

Quentin Everett was a cougar shifter who’d been kicked out of his home at a young age by an uncaring mother. He had been raised by an older brother, until that brother was kicked out, then he became the oldest, raising his younger sibling until it was his turn to be banished. He never knew his father, just like the rest of his siblings. When he got older, he managed to put himself through school on scholarships and became a park ranger. He loved the freedom it gave his cougar, and himself.

Getting tickets to the event of the year at The Underground, a costume party was something that everyone wanted. Sammy was dressed as a bandit, and even though he’d helped his besties with their costumes (much to their annoyance) everyone was dressed fabulous, when some skanky fairy came along and tried to steal his booty of nuts! Mayhem ensued as Sammy tried to collect his lost booty of nuts from the floor, as chaos with mates began.

I’ve been an avid reader for as long as I can remember. I still remember one of the first books I read, it was the Bobbsey Twins. As I got older, I moved into the more interesting books, but some of the typo’s made me nuts! So, after contacting writers I started a career of where I began editing, beta reading and brainstorming. After being harassed for a couple of years by some of the writers, I gave in and have now begun to write.

I live in central Canada with my hubby of over 25 years, 4 kids, and 5 grandkids. We have a collection of pets, including our guard cat. I love nothing more then curling up with a good book, or my laptop to work on the next thing that catches the muse.

I would love to hear from readers, you can find me at https://authordanigray.blogspot.ca/

The ending was odd. It didn’t feel like an ending. I want to know what happens with Quentin’s family/brother and Charlie/Bobby. Are there going to be future books with these characters? Since it was a series with 4 different authors, I didn’t think so, but now I’m just confused. I was like, “Wait…what? How is that the end?” It felt very unfinished. I liked Sammy and Quentin, but the ending just threw me.

I also didn’t like that we never saw the best friends/mates meet up at the coffee shop. It was talked about in every book. The last one should have included a scene where they all met. Plus, what happened at the end of this one made it weird to continue the plan to head to the coffee shop.

I didn’t really enjoy the last two books in this series. In Lisa’s book I hated Kolton and this book just left me with so many questions and not the happy feeling I usually get from a fated mate book. The first two were great though, especially Arden’s book.

Not for me.

The rhythm of this book didn't work for me. The writing was clunky, it didn't flow well. It was almost like the steps of everything was written out like a list. There were also simple editing mistakes all over. Ex: out instead of our.
The author also tried to throw plot twists for no reason, like the situation with Charlie. It was unnecessary especially since it was never really resolved. I'm not sure if the author was trying to set up future books, but I didn't think this set of collabs was about the authors turning it into their own personal series.
Also, the drama with Quentin's family was way overdone, so much drama, and things that made no sense. ex: the uncle situation. That too wasn't really resolved. It was also left in kind of a cliff hanger as far as the family was concerned.
Also Quentin was kind of a jerk sometimes for no reason. Ex: at the very end, the lady was explaining to him the procedure for the situation and it's written; " "fine, where do I sign?" Quentin snapped" that was completely unnecessary and uncalled for. Things like that might not bother other readers, but it is something that bothered me, and a lot of those little things add up to me.
I did pay for this book and I did read it, so I don't think it's fair to return it, but I probably won't purchase further work by this author, even if it's a collab with other authors that I mesh with their writing style, I will still skip this author's contribution, unless it's on KU, maybe.
I tried to be purposefully vague enough with my
examples so I don't spoil the story for those that choose to read this story.

3.8 stars A good start as Sammi was ready to party and planned all his friends costumes.
Sammi was protective of his cashew nuts and with his friend Ryo meeting his mate. I didn't like Sammi at first with Ryo and then with Quinton at the party.
This is a fast paced story with lots included into pages for a novella. An okay novella but questions in the story went unanswered for Charlie and his mate (there maybe another book for their story to continue). The finish of this was a big What moment with the mum and the sibling's I fazed on especially considering the Quintin's mother's past with her children. This is a shifter series with 3 other authors which I've yet to read.
Sammi and three of his friends where all excited about attending a VIP club event.
Sammi (a squirrel shifter) meets Quinton and knows lady fate stepped in again with mates meeting.

I read the three other books from this series before this one and honestly, I liked them and didn't think they were bad at all, but this book was a huge disappointment, I was excited to read and find out what happened with Sammy but it was so badly written that I only kept reading because I hate not finishing a book and I only read the dialogues and skipped a large portion of the book. It made me feel like I was reading a story online written by a beginner. It was like reading a list of things that happened and there was a lot of repetition and irrelevant information.

Glad I didn’t read this one first!

I liked the other three novelettes but this was unbearable. I can’t believe I spent money on it. This reads like the clunky sentences back in my sophomore English class. The entire narrative could be summed up in a flash fiction piece once the random listing of character actions is taken out. I read the first 1/3 with bated breath every time thinking there would be a point, but no. There’s so much more to say but I’ll try not to be a complete jerk. This series went out with a whimper.

So much potential.

I love the Nocturne Bay series and all the main characters. The concept of non traditional shifters is cute (squirrel and cougar in this book), and the story lines are engaging. Having read all the other books, I was very excited about Sammy’s story. Unfortunately, the book did not live up to its potential. While the story was entertaining, the writing did not work for me in terms of style, and the editing left a lot to be desired. These issues kept pulling me out of the story to the point that it was a struggle to finish.

This was the worst of the four in the series. There were too many loose ends in the plot at the end, and it was riddled with grammatical errors. Also, I liked Sammy the least of the group of friends, but I will admit that he grew on me by the midpoint of his story. Finally, as a series note, why did all of these authors talk about the meeting between the friends and their new mates and not show it? I was seriously looking forward to all eight of them interacting.

WOW!!!

Please tell me there will be more from this world. This is the third one I’ve read out of the four and I am loving the world created. I knew I would love Sammy from when he went crazy about his nuts. And the way Fate works in this one really got me thinking. I need to know about others in this story. Please write more.

This was such a heartwarming story and I loved every page of it. I appreciated how all the characters are shifters so that when they meet their mates they both know it without explanations (like when one is human). The writing was well done and the plot touched my heart and the ending was sweet. Very enjoyable read.

Great story

This is a great series and I enjoyed each one. This one is a bit annoying though as I would have liked to read more about what happened with Quentin’s brothers. It also would have been nice to finally have all the best friends catch up with each other. It left me wanting more!!!

EDIT

Interesting plot idea. Good characters. Loved the idea of a squirrel shifter. Not a three dimensional plot development. I wanted more plot and story development. The lack of proofreading was disrupting.

Oversimplified

I've read much Better by this author. This story had some really go, semi-complicated, major p!ot points that were glossed over quickly in a few sentences. The story was also plagued by typos.

Cute squirrel/cougar gay romance

Sammy, squirrel shifter meets his mate Quentin at the Underground, a club owned by friends, just one more of four best friends where we can see mating adventures. Delightful short novel connected to the town of No turns Bay.

There is a lot of drama but a terrific HE A at the end. The characters and situations are relatable. Awesome job Dani

Ok I read this one last. Are there any more coming out? All 4 books were great but I think this one was a little more in depth with characters, background, and supporting characters.

This book was okay, but the two MCs were a bit too over the top. I thought Quentin’s reaction to his brother was particularly over the top. I also didn’t understand how the situation with Quentin’s mother went on as long as it did. Overall, the book was okay, but it wasn’t one of the better ones in the series.
