Great debut noval from this author. I loved how the chapters started from the killer perspective, quite shocking and brutal at times. The story evolved well with the different characters, and a few little twists had me guessing who the killer was. A solid 4.5 stars from me. Really looking forward to the next book.
I was cautious about reading this book because of some of the references in it - however, whilst close to the bone, the references were short and contextual. I wasn’t quite sure what to make of it in the first 50 pages, then it really warmed up and the last 100 were page turners for me!! I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in the series as this book left you wanting more. It was an addictive mix of pain and hope - the perfect recipe. I hope C L Kenny is already working the next one….
This book was disturbing, but pretty predictable. It was intriguing and it kept my attention, but the plot felt a bit rushed. Overall, this was an enjoyable read and a story that I am invested in! I will be reading the second book when it comes out.
I enjoyed the story itself very much. However, I thought that author used the characters name too often and there was no depth to any of the characters. I will be reading the second book. My rating for this book is more of a 3.5.
First and foremost, I’m putting a Trigger Warning on this book for sexual abuse.
I was really excited to read this book. The blurb about this book on Amazon was VERY intriguing, but the book to me, fell very flat. The taking of women to use them as sex slaves is a heavy topic. The style of writing seemed very immature for that kind of topic. The writing itself felt very juvenile.
Additionally, Mallory is supposed to be an investigative journalist trying to make a name for herself, but the book kind of loses that. Yes, it does tell us that Mallory was going to the press conferences and interviewing families and writing articles. We never see this articles. We know the things that happen, but if her journalism is the whole reason she goes to Portland, why wouldn’t we see some of that?
I’m not sure what I just read. This book should come with warnings all over it. Extreme sexual violence, rape, and beastiality. There were several grammar errors and it seemed to have a lot of British style English for a book set in the United States with characters from Oregon? Overall I’m just so confused and I would not recommend.
