New Orleans and all its dark weirdness laid the foundation for every story I've written since high school up to present day. I was born and raised in the Crescent City, but now live in Chicago. I graduated from the University of New Orleans and served six years in the Louisiana National Guard.

My mind easily delves into the twisted recesses, but I find to balance myself out, I watch a lot of comedies and love to make people laugh. I get into everything from witty British comedies to South Park and Family Guy. If you're easily offended... Sorry!

This is the second book featuring FBI agent Angel Blondeaux. It does work as a stand alone but reads better if you have read the first book.

We join the action when the New Orleans PD find the fifth victim of the so-called Blindfold Killer. Victims are found with bandages around where their eyes had been, and their throats cut (eek). When a taskforce of local PD officers and the FBI is formed Angel starts to work the case and the killer starts to contact her by phone. Angel also touches base with her old college flame - Maggie who is now married to Wayne and has a little girl, Amy, although Amy’s dad was Maggie’s first husband who died.

Soon, another young woman is taken and the race is on to catch the perpetrator before she, too, is killed. The taskforce is scrambling to find links between the women and identify a suspect, any suspect, but they are thin on the ground. Things heat up when Amy is kidnapped. Maggie is assured that she will not be harmed as long as Maggie does as she is told. I can’t say any more without spoilers but things got really, really tense from then on.

Angel’s character is further developed in this story and she is still processing the events of the first book. She is having a ‘no strings’ fling with FBI profiler Kyle Sinatra and it will be interesting to see where that leads. It also seems that she is gaining the respect of the NOPD and they work well together.

While the book seemed a little ‘loose’ at the start, it soon settled into a really chilling and terrifying direction. The killer wants to draw Angel into ‘the game’ and it really is a game being developed for the dark web with real life torture and killing scenes to be included. Will Angel end up being immortalised in some smutty dark game? Will Amy really be released? And what are the killer’s plans for Maggie? The story finally hurtled to a dramatic and suspenseful conclusion. Many thanks to BookSirens and E.J. Findorff for the much appreciated free copy which I reviewed voluntarily and honestly. And we’ll done on that beautiful cover!

While this is the second book in the series, as with most police procedural mysteries, it can be read as a standalone. I really loved the first book in the series because it was an extremely compelling read that did a great job introducing us to Angel as a character. There are a few references to the events of the first book that would be very confusing to readers if they hadn't read book 1, but those references did not impact the way the mystery contained in this book played out.

I really liked how we're dropped into the middle of this investigation, right when they find the 5th body. I know a lot of readers find the pacing of police procedurals to be slow, and I think Findorff starting the story when he did was a great choice. It also allowed us to get a pretty quick info-dump of the crimes because Angel and the other investigators were comparing this fifth victim to the others . The stakes and tension are raised a number of times in the first 25% of the book which I also think makes it a very engaging read. I think the calls that the killer makes to Angel work well to instantly bump up the tension and remind the reader what the main plot of the book is.

I loved how dynamic and fleshed out the different characters are and how they are so different from each other. We get, of course, multiple characters who are members of law enforcement - FBI and local police - and there's always a chance that those characters could be written very similarly. However, Findorff does a great job writing each character so well that they really stand out from the crowd. Each character has a distinctive voice and attitude that is consistent throughout the book.

Where this story lost some points for me was in the actual mystery but it is just a personal preference. I strongly prefer my mysteries to have a lot of red herrings or dead ends for the investigators to come across. This book, in comparison, was pretty much zero to prime suspect. At the beginning, they had no suspects, then the killer revealed somethings about himself on a call to Angel and suddenly they have a suspect that fits all of those parameters and that is who they're pretty much focused on for the rest of the book. I would have liked some more variation in the suspect pool or maybe having multiple suspects that could all fit the criteria so the police have to investigate multiple leads.

Overall, I really enjoyed this second installment following Angel and I will most definitely be continuing in the series. I loved the characters, tension, and pacing but the mystery was a little too straightforward for my liking.

This book almost had me tied up in knots. Part of me was chomping to get to the end and see what happened, while the other wanted to put the book down and walk away. Not because it was a bad read but because it was so intense at times I felt like I needed a break. Plus the "bad guys" were making me so angry my blood pressure was in danger of spiking. (The sign of a good author, in my opinion.)

So the pros and cons:
Pros:
The story is the typical FBI against a serial killer, but with a few twists and turns that kept it from being a cliché. There were some unexpected developments that kept me on my toes for the most part. The characters are realistic, relatable, and fully developed. The dialogue is smooth and flowing the majority of the time. There is enough physical action to keep most adrenaline junkies satisfied.

Cons:
The personal relationships between Angel and Maggie and Angel and Kyle never rang true. Angel and Kyle felt like they were included because it was expected that there be a romantic component but as if they were simply going through the motions. And Angel and Maggie… I guess to explain why Angel was targeted by the killer. It just didn't flow for me. In fact, I felt Angel's relationships with Ramsey and Stewie were the most honest relationships she had going on. The other issue I had that nearly drove me nuts, was Mr. Findorff kept talking about "lasers" and I had no idea what he was talking about. Did he mean laser pointers or laser lights, or what? It took over half of the book for me to finally realize that he was calling the pages from a printer "lasers". I have no idea why.
So, will I try another of Mr. Findorff's books? I sure will, because the good outweighs the not-so-good.

I received a review copy from the author via BookSirens and this is my honest opinion.

E.J. Findorff has a unique way of presenting a mystery-thriller. Typical stories throw out multiple suspects to provide readers the chance to guess who and why. Findorff’s Angel Blondeaux series presents the criminals early. The reader can figure out who's involved in the crime before those investigating can.

In this case, the Blindfold Killer is murdering young women in the New Orleans area. Some serial killers keep trophies of each crime, and the Blindfold Killer manually removes and keeps each victim’s hazel eyes. Blondeaux is part of the FBI team working with the police to solve these murders. For some (initially) unknown reason, the killer will call Angel to discuss the case with her and how he’s stalking her.

The intrigue lies in what comes next. What else will the criminals do before they get caught? How many people will die? How will the investigators get the answers and the necessary evidence to put the villains in jail? The Alpha is unsettling as the reader figures out how each person is involved.

I had to put down the book several times because my skin crawled as Findorff dug deeper into the killer’s plan. Like Angel, I couldn’t step away from the story for long, even as it kept getting darker.

The Alpha is the second book in the Angel Blondeaux series. It works well as a stand alone mystery. There are references to the first book, Blood Parish, that are vague enough not to give anything away but enticing invitations to go back and read the first book. The Alpha’s ending sets up another case for Blondeaux, and I’m looking forward to reading that too.

Thanks to BookSirens for providing me with a review copy of this book.

I am not even sure where to start as there are so many things I like about this book. The main character in the book, Angel, is the type of character I like to root for - even if she derails a bit at times. The story is quite traumatic in that horrific crimes like this make me think about the police, detectives, doctors - everyone who deals with such horrific murders - and how they cope and keep on doing the much needed work they do day after day. This story made me realize that we sometimes never know or expect someone so disturbed could be sitting next to us at the dinner table or on the bus or in an airplane or married to a friend. This is a murder mystery where you find out who "did it," yet, you must keep on reading to find out how, or if, the perpetrator(s) gets caught, and what effect it will have on Angel. Several times while reading I couldn't help but wonder just how many more people will die before the perpetrator (and his partner in crime) is caught. I felt the opening sequence did a great job of building tension and setting the tone for the rest of the book. There were times when I would put the book down due to having such a strong visceral reaction to what I had just read. This book is not for the faint of heart. The Alpha, by E.J. Findorff, is a very good follow-up to Blood Parish, the first novel featuring FBI agent Angel Blondeaux. There are references to the first story, but this can be read as a stand-alone.

In The Alpha, Angel is in the middle of a serial murder case. Victims are found with their eyes missing (gruesome, yes). We see Angel and her team working to narrow down suspects. The story is still very interesting, but loses a little pace, when the killer’s identity is revealed about midway through the book.

Angel has a no-strings fling with fellow agent Kyle Sinatra. Her former college flame, Maggie, plays a prominent role in this story. There was a little too much relationship angst for my taste.

The parts of the story that focus on the killer and his accomplice are intense. You may not want to read this before bedtime!

I really like the New Orleans setting, Angel’s personality and persistence, Maggie’s father (although he’s a secondary character) and Stewie/Stewart, the tech expert on Angel’s team.

There is a teaser for the next Blondeaux story at the end of this book, and I look forward to reading it.

Many thanks to E.J. Findorff and BookSirens for a free ARC of The Alpha. I am leaving an honest review voluntarily.

I received a gifted copy of ‘The Alpha’ by E.J. Findorff in return for my honest review.

This book follows FBI special agent Angel Blondeaux as she investigates the serial killer named as The Blindfold Killer.

The murderer calls Angel throughout the investigation saying where bodies will be found. The killer seems to like having this link with Angel, and she must keep her cool to keep them on her side to try and discover their identity.

Is there a reason why he wants to involve Angel?

Angel is soon under pressure as colleagues get caught in the path of destruction of the killer, and she must find out who is responsible before anyone else gets hurt.

Will she find the serial killer in time?

I really enjoyed reading this book, not only is Angel a strong female lead, but the phone call link between her and the serial killer adds to the intensity of the book.

Even when the serial killer is known this book keeps you on the edge of your seat, you just know it is not all over yet. You still must see what is going to happen and how far the killer will go.

There are also many interactions between the police and FBI staff too which makes you feel like you are getting to know the team and how they feel.

Overall, an intense, serial killer thriller which keeps you on the edge of your seat wondering how far the killer will go.

In this story, Angel is on a task force looking for a serial killer known as "The Blindfold Killer". She and the team are at the site where one of the victims has just been discovered. Angel has picked by the killer as a contact. The killer provides her with information relating to the scenes and victims. Eventually the team finally narrows the list of suspects down to one individual. When they have attempted to capture him, his home was booby trapped and result in injuries to the force. The task force later discovers that there is more than one person involved with the killings.

As this was going on, Angel reconnects with an old college friend and through this interaction things get hazzardous. This individual will play a major role in the story.

To discover what part this college friend plays, who the other party in the killings is, why Angel was selected as the contact and how they ultimately put the entire plot togeter, then you need to read this book. The ending is great.

I enjoyed the first book in the series, Blood Parrish, which introduced us to FBI agent Angel Blondeaux so I couldn’t wait to read The Alpha.
This outstanding second book does not disappoint! I love Angel Blondeaux's character. She is fierce and will do anything in the pursuit of justice and is loyal to those closest to her.

When the New Orleans PD finds a fifth victim of the so-called Blindfold Killer (victims are found with their eyes removed, and their throats cut) a task force of local PD officers and the FBI is formed and Angel starts to work the case. For reasons unknown the killer contacts Angel by phone to draw Angel into ‘the game’ which is being developed for the dark web with real life torture and actual killing scenes.

When another young woman is taken the race is on to catch the perpetrator before she, too, is killed.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good thriller. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. Thank you, BookSirens.

Review of Alpha by EJ Findorff

This the second book of Findorff's that I have had the privilege to read about FBI agent Angel Blondeaux and it did not disappoint; I found it as absorbing as the first. Findorff has the ability to put the reader in the action and in the heads of the characters.

Once again, Angel has been called from her FBI headquarters to assist local law enforcement, this time to help in the recurring murders of young women with hazel eyes. The eye color is a requisite for the murders and are video taped in/for all their gruesomeness.

As law enforcement closes in on the perpetrator, the murders become more frequent testing the wills, skills and abilities of everyone. Stewie, the young tech genius, is put to work dissecting the videotapes and investigating their origins.

If you like a multi linear, fast paced yet absorbing mystery. I can assure you that you will like this book.

I highly recommend this story.

This is the second book in the series starring FBI Agent Angel Blondeaux. Its a stand alone book, but I’m glad I read the first one. Angel is on to the next case, with a serial killer who wants her to personally lead the investigation into capturing him. And he’ll stop at nothing to get her attention.

Angel takes a lot of history with her to her next investigation, which makes some officers uneasy working with her. She is a very strong character, and knows her own mind, and she’s a woman. A lot of men are intimidated by that, but she can hold her own. I love the character and the premise, but I found it harder to get engaged with this book. There was a nice build up of tension but for me the story wasn’t quite as gripping this time. However, it was well plotted and I still wanted to know how it ended, and I’d still like to see where Angel goes next.

I can't seem to go beyond simply saying that I liked this book, as opposed to finding it amazing or fantastic.

I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Agent Angel Blondeaux in the first novel, and I was excited to continue to do so in this installment. Unfortunately, I didn't feel like this was the next in a series but rather that it could have been a standalone story. Or maybe it would have been a better introduction to the protagonist and should have started the series.

Perhaps it's unfair, but I keep making comparisons to Blood Parish. With that story, I was taken by surprise with the twists and turns and the details of how everything fit together. Whereas with this one, I didn't find it as pleasantly shocking when aspects were revealed.

With that said, I liked it enough that if/when there is another book, I'll read it.

This is the second book in the Blondeaux series I have read, it dovetails well with the first book.

I enjoyed Kyles relationship with Angel, how she constantly kept him at arms length.

I liked the “Eddie” character and how he was portrayed - sad 😢 over the hill, nerdy.

The main character in the book is both repulsive and fascinating. The way the story is written draws you in both mental & physically.

It is a well thought out plot with lots of great relatable characters. You don’t necessarily like them all but you can actually visualise them.

Great love triangle angle including with a psychotic serial killer slant. Some sad bits but very believable - this could happen now!

Good storyline that’s easy to follow but keeps your interest with unexpected twists. Loved it!

This was another book that was provided to me by the author and the fine folks at Booksirens.com free of charge in return for an honest and fair review.

This story takes place in the city of New Orleans, LA where a series of murders have started taking place and are being investigated by the protagonist, Angel Bilodeaux, in cooperation with the NOPD.

During the course of the investigation, the protagonist finds that this string of murders are being committed by two individuals -with the partner in charge (The Alpha - hence the title of the book) being married to her former romantic love interest.

This novel continues the development of Angel Bilodeaux, and delves into the mindset of a serial killer. I found this book to be both exciting and action-packed and easily worthy of a five-star rating.

As with all reviews, this is just my five cents worth.

**I received a free ARC from Book Sirens and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.**
I really enjoyed the first book in this series, Blood Parish, so when I got the chance to read the second one, I jumped at it. Didn't even think about it really, just clicked it. And the author did not disappoint. This one is just as good as the first. There are a couple of references to events in the first book, but I don't think you'd be confused if you took this one as a stand-alone.

This book provides the reader with a new case, the Blindfold Killer that has FBI agent Angel Blondeaux hard at work with a new cast of characters and introductions to old friends. It further develops Angel's character and personality while taking the reader on a whirlwind police procedural. Definitely worth your time.

Second book featuring FBI agent Angel Blondeaux, who unwilling becomes the focus of The Blindfold Killer, a serial killer who contacts Angel repeatedly during the investigation. As in Blood Parish, Angel doesn't always do things by the book, but will this endanger someone she cares very deeply for?

Even though you find out the identity of the killer midway through the novel, it's the game of cat and mouse between killer and authorities that keeps you reading.

Unconventional and uncompromising Angel is an engaging character and this series promises to maintain readers' interest.

Looking forward to read more of Agent Blondeaux' adventures.

The Alpha is the second book in the Angel Blondeaux mystery series by EJ Findorff. It is an excellent follow-up to his first book. Angel is receiving phone calls from what the police are calling
The Blind-fold killer, letting her know where the next body will be found. Why is the murderer talking only to Angel? He gives her crumbs as leads. Desperate to solve the case they follow every clue and nuance to collect information that could help them solve the case. But will it be enough? Thank you to BookSirens for the ARC of this book.

I loved this book! Cringe-worthy details, twists and dead-ends, and great character development. If you love a fast-paced mystery, then this is for you. Hard to put down.

Amazing narration from Cathi Colas, brings out the action, suspense, and characters. Brilliant for this book.

Angel is on a task force looking for a serial killer known as "The Blindfold Killer". The killer enjoys toying with her, by ringing her and he provides information relating to the scenes and victims. Eventually the team finally narrows the list of suspects down to one individual. Angel's past comes into the investigation. Soon they have there sights on one suspected but as they go and capture, his home was booby trapped and result in injuries to the force. Soon the task force discovers that its a partnership.

Amazing book, I was hooked start away, the characters kept me wanting to know what will happen next. Great thriller.

FBI Agent Angel Blondeaux is back in this newest tale, The Alpha. In this novel, Angel’s past love reenters her life…. with a serial killer attached. The story is a wonderful, nail-biting, suspense-filled thriller. The characters are fantastic and the descriptions incredible in this fast-paced book. This was one of the most heart-racing books I’ve read in a long time. It had me hooked from the first page and I could not put it down. Findorff has given us an absolutely twisted tale. Once again the author has used Angel, the F B.I. agent of a disputable family, to bring a strong female lead character. The story moves strongly from start to finish, with enough information for you to solve the mystery but enough twists that you will most likely get it wrong. A sign of a great mystery, thriller, adventure book. This is the secound book of the series I have read and I'm looking forward to many more. Even though this is part of a series it can be read as a stand alone. There are a few references that allude to the first book, but luckily when the author gave me this book I had read the first already.

I like the character Angel Blondeaux. I read the first book also. I feel that the tensions in this second book were not as well defined. The sexual tensions were bland. The tensions in the group of law enforcement were very mild. The danger and fear around Wayne Holt were not fully developed. This story had the capability of keeping the reader on the edge of their seat but it never quite got there. I believe in the author and I believe in the main character so I'm willing to see what happens in a third installment.

This is the second book in the Angel Blondeaux series and same as the first, it is another winner for EF Findorff. As the book starts, FBI agent, Angel Blondeaux is already in the middle of investigating a murder. They know they are looking for a serial killer. The author did a great job of offering references to the other murders in the beginning of the book. The killer decides to contact Angel and make her an even greater part of investigation. Angel and her partner find out there are really two suspects. This novel is full of suspense and keeps you on the edge of your seat. I highly recommend this book if you are interested in police mysteries. Thank you to BookSirens for the ARC.

The Alpha is a thrilling story, with a great plot, full of leads and details that make you cringe. A devious mind plots an incredibly cruel game satisfying his two main desires - to kill and to get rich. Angel, the FBI agent in charge of the case is their ultimate goal and the hunt is going to be fierce on both sides. Many leads end up as dead ends, others give tokens of information that may take to the culprit. Will Angel be able to solve the case? An entertaining and fast-paced story that keeps you glued to the book till the end.

This is my favorite genres, Mystery and Thrillers. The story runs at an exciting and fast pace. The characters are written well and you want to root for them. Once the reader gets further into the story, you don’t want to put the book down and you want to finish it. Because, you’re hoping for the outcome that figure would happen. I can't say enough good things about this book and series. I'm always drawn to books set in New Orleans and Louisiana and I'm also drawn to books with kickass female characters. angel Blondeaux is the epitome of kickass. Excellent novel that delves into not only the psyche of serial killers but those within law enforcement who are tasked with stopping and imprisoning them. This story shows the intense trauma and lasting damage done to even those involved on the fringes of the crimes. The characters are extremely well drawn, believable, and evoked genuine emotion in this reader… both positive and negative…. Would make an excellent series! Hmmmm....will be following this series as this appears to be the second in an ongoing series! Yay!

A suspenseful read with some twists. Good character development. Felt a bit slow paced at times but still worth reading. If you enjoy stories centered on serial killers, sure you will like this book. Several subplots which add to the storyline that compliment the book quite well. This book is part of a series but can definitely be read as a standalone. At the end, dropped some teasers for a new book to come. Recommend. Received an ARC and this is my honest, voluntary review.
