Marlowe

I want my Bride more than the world, but she’s the only woman I can’t have.

Every second in her presence is both torment and ecstasy. I crave her blood as much as her body.

One slip, and I’ll drain her.

I made many mistakes in the past due to my dark, predatory nature, but I won’t make the same mistakes with her, the fierce, beautiful woman who bears scars from her past.

To spare her, I must send her away, even if it tears me apart.

But she proves just as dangerous and possessive as I.

If we let each other go, our scorching obsession will destroy us while igniting the world in flames.

Pip

The hot, dominant Vampire God and I have a bad history together, one I can’t remember and he can’t let go.

I won’t deny the scorching heat and attraction between us, but I’ll be a fool to surrender to Marlowe’s seductive and destructive power.

And we have a bigger problem.

War, the third horseman who refused to leave Earth, has set his sight on me.

If Marlowe can’t forgive my sins and I can’t trust him again, War will take me and terror will reign on Earth.

* Vampire God is the second book in this spicy wolf shifter and vampire romance trilogy. If you like enemies-to-lovers, fated mates, obsessive psycho alphas, and tough, hilarious heroine, you’ll enjoy this series.

Toouch talking

That girl talks way too much. It's like word vomit all over this book. Stuff doesn't even make sense. By page 45 I could keep reading anymore. I was really looking forward to this book, hoping the female lead would grow a little, instead it felt like a rancid tripped out teenagers had the helm. I'm done.

Disappointed

I loved the first book but this one was so disappointing and annoying.
The sweet cheeks nickname was annoying and used too much. FMC constantly talking about how Jared treated her. It was so repetitive I needed up skimming.
Super disappointed in the author for having the FMC use the R word. It was unnecessary and down right disgusting.

No, just no

I started to write this review barely 9% into the book and I was ready to call it quits. Consider that for a moment. I was ready to give up on this and I wasn’t even one tenth of the way thru yet!
What happened to Pip? She had just enough annoyance to balance with undeniable charm during the first book, that made you want to root for her and learn more about her blank slate of a past. Now at roughly 20% into the book? She’s just annoying with no charm and apparently has gotten to be very preachy/extremely vocal during her inner monologues about how she needs to know everything and will not succumb to powerful men any longer. Yet this doesn’t jibe with the Pip who was quiet enough so that she can observe information she couldn’t recall or the Pip who spent the better part of the past few weeks at a shifter academy learning to hone her senses and ability to track and fight. Her taunts and needless noises and wanting to be obnoxious just to learn what makes the vampire tick suggests that she’s learned nothing and is just along for the ride despite how her actions put them both in danger.
Also what was up with her knowing all the lyrics to songs and pop culture references yet none of those things are helping to jog her forgotten past? Even when being around someone so familiar?
Later on she’s learned a little bit more about her origins and has slowly settled in with the vampires, but it was like her personality never improved and the struggle was real to finish this book.
It became apparently very clear that the author just wanted to get this book out to satisfy the masses, but had no real plan when she wrote it. It was just a book of a stream of consciousness and it just didn’t pan out well.

Storyline and heroine

Your storyline is good but your heroine is childish & petty. I’m not sure I want to continue w/her. Sorry

I loved the first book. It was the first book in a long time that really had me hooked. Pip was a strong heroine and i loved how she didn't put up with any shit. And thanks to her mischiveous personality i never felt like she come out of an argument as the loser. I also liked that she didn't fall head over heels in love with her mate, despite the fact that he treated her like dirt, just to be shocked when in the end he doesn't love her back, like many other fmc's in such books. i liked that she could be sexual without being in love and without the author trying to send the subliminal message that she's normally not on of 'those' girls. She was kind of street smart and knew how to observe her surroundings inconspicuously. At times her pranks were too childish, but that left room for character development. And for me, Pip was much more realistic and likeable than many other main characters of the same genre. The world building was not my favourite, but the character's made up for it.

The second book was a disappointment. Instead of a character development Pip gets a character regression. Her behaviour that made sense in the environment of the first book, seems inappropriate in her new environment where she no longer has to defend herself. Before she was a strong survivalist, now she acts like a child throwing temper tantrums. Her spiteful manner towards her new allies comes across as immature, dumb and unjustified. No trace of being smart or aware of her surroundings. It seems like she is deliberately trying to make enemies. Her previous nasty, but funny replies mutated into shame-inducing monologues. In general, she holds endless, repetitive monologues. As for the first half of the book I don't feel any chemistry between her and Marlowe. She repeats over and over how she can tell he's interested in her, without the reader seeing any indication of it other then her vague inner monologue. It gets better in the second half. The he plot doesn't thickens enough to make up for the lack of all the interesting characters from the first book. I finished the book out of sympathy for Pip from the first book, but I'm not sure if I'm patient enough to read the last book.

Sorry for any grammatical errors. English is my second language.

What happened to the MFC?! DNF

Okay, first let me start by saying Book 1 was great! I was super excited about book 2. However, I realized right away the MFC was going to irritate me. I’m usually very good at dealing with my own emotions and seeing it through the authors POV. But Pip? No, I could not finish the book. I literally could not take it. Has this happened to me before? Only once. She’s disrespectful, not quirky, not sweet, not bada**, constantly doing things that will “make” her look “cool” because she wants to be that. Her comebacks are childish at best, and whether or not her memory is intact or not her actions are not because she’s bold. It’s out of sensitivity, emotions, and super low self-esteem. She’s also constantly talking about how bad things have been for her and that was brought up way too much.
Ugh. I hate talking bad about the book because the story line was amazing!!! 👌 However, the MFC ruined it all for me.
By all means, if you can deal with that type of MFC read the book. I get invested in books, even ones with bad characters—this was was wayyyy too much.

Vampire God book 2 by Meg Xuemei X

After reading book one and enjoying it so much, I went straight into book 2. In book one I loved Pip, even though she had smart comments, you knew it was her defense mechanism, and while at times you wished she shut up, overall you just laughed at her. Getting to see things through her point of view was interesting. But than I started book two. I was barely in and just wanted her to shut up!!

While book two was very active, with a new twists or turns coming at you constantly, I found it too irritating, If I really didn’t want to see how this series end, I would have stopped reading. Luckily we had sexy strong Marlowe to keep our attention.

While the intimate scenes are very hot, they are probably ones of the best parts of the book, even they become too much. And her constant need to bring up Jared is annoying, and makes her whiny and not just irritating. Even her inner monologues drone on about Jared.

My recommendation is an edit where they remove about 2/3 of her snarky word vomit, but considering that won’t happen, just prepare yourself.

Am I reading these super fast? Yes. Is anything really happening. Noooooooo! This reminds me of my fanfiction era and maybe that’s what’s keeping me reading. It’s so easy to read but there’s not much going on. It’s a silly book for sure and things are just happening. And Lady Pip Ophelia, yes the vampires call her that, is very annoying. Every character is super one dimensional. But I’m not reading for substance, I’m reading for fun, and it’s kind of fun.

It’s not that bad. It’s just not that good.

That may just be one of my favorite lines from this whole book. It could be because my husband and I have a running joke about Batman and Robin, or the fact that my daughter had a Batman themed wedding where her groom said I do while wearing a cape and mask, but that line tickled my funny bone and I laughed harder than I probably should have. Anywho, that was just one of the fun, snarky things Pip, or Lady Ophelia if you like, says. She's hilarious! I love her blend of bravery and worry, her mix of snark and sweet, and the way she keeps everyone on her toes. I love that she has no time, or desire, to learn anyone's name and instead gives them all nicknames that border on insulting, and she cares not at all. She is out to live life to the fullest, and even without her knowing everything she's going to take everyone down. She makes me smile. Marlowe has this possessive/what am I going to do with you thing going on with her that I also love. He's this fierce vampire who will protect her with everything he has, and she goes out of her way to both make that difficult and trust that he will.
This one starts off with the danger and excitement and keeps it going until the end. There are still a lot of things Pip doesn't know and Marlowe is keeping secrets, but she's not backing down from finding answers. She will discover who her friends are, and who is a foe. She will need all her determination and spunk to take on the challenges she's facing.
There's a lot of steam, a lot of action, a lot of humor, and it ended at the perfect spot. It is a cliffhanger since this isn't the end of the series, but it doesn't leave you hanging. I can't wait to see where Pip's journey goes next.

Series review : The idea behind this series was a good one, however the execution was terrible. Every book in the series is poorly written (did anyone proof read these????). Almost seems as though it was written in another language and then they used google translate to translate it to English. The characters are awful. The main character, Pip, is THE worst. Basically every “romantic” interaction is cringy. There are so many plot holes and repetitive explanations throughout the series.

Book 2 review: how is the writing even worse? Baffling. Pip becomes even more unlikable.

You may be wondering why I kept reading the series even though it was terrible. I have this problem where I can’t not finish. I needed to know how it ended. Plus I’m a breastfeeding mom so I have time to kill during night feeds lol.

Story still has its hooks in me

Actual rating 3.5

I spent most of this installment waiting for Pip to grow up. Maybe it was less obvious in book 1, as she was in a school-type environment, but her snark & sass felt very juvenile in this book. Especially surrounded by Marlowe and the other vamps. I like to see growth in the MCs but Pip doesn’t feel like she’s changing. Yes, her powers are developing and growing but her character is not.

I was glad to see (briefly) the return of Shade, Danielle, & Paris and hope to see more of them as I roll onto book 3.

Random Fleeing and Unnecessary Attitude

The first book I loved Pip’s feistiness and determination. This book she was just awful for no reason. Situations and conversations were written strangely. There are plot holes and confusion. I had high hopes for this book. It wasn’t what I expected after the first one.

I finished reading 'Vampire God,' Book 2 of the Monsters After Dark series by Meg X Xuemei and it was GREAT 🤩! (I am just a regular reader, not affiliated with the author, reading is JUST hobby, and I am not in the book biz!)

If you follow my reviews, you KNOW that I am a BIG FAN of Shifter God (Book 1) of this series 🙌! And the 2nd book did not disappoint! I was MOST impressed that the FMC kept her humor and her SASS 👏! We also learned SO MUCH more about her past! And man, there was a GREAT ending! Can't wait for Book 3!!!

So here's some key elements to see if this series is for you!

🧛‍♂️ Paranormal Romance/Romance Fantasy Combo... doesn't take place in our modern world, but it is a version of it!
🧛‍♂️ F/M, same couple throughout series!
🧛‍♂️ Kinda Rejected Mate 💔❤️‍🩹 & Fated Mate trope 💘
🧛‍♂️ Werewolves 🐺 & Vampires 🧛‍♂️
🧛‍♂️ Straight forward, streamlined, modern writing style ✍️!
🧛‍♂️ Two POVs in the 1st person: FMC and MMC
🧛‍♂️ Starts off RIGHT where book 2 left off! No time lapse!! And if you remember that cliffhanger from book 1... you will know how AWESOME it is that this book just continues on 🥳🥳🥳!!
🧛‍♂️ Strong 💪🏻, SASSY 💋, and FUNNY 😆 FMC (the entire book folks!) I really like this chick!!!
🧛‍♂️ THERE IS SOME STEAM 🔥! It's not dominant, but it's there!
🧛‍♂️ We learn a lot more about our FMC's past 👏👏👏!
🧛‍♂️ Awesome cliffhanger!! I am really excited for Book 3!
🧛‍♂️ It's on Amazon's bestsellers list for Paranormal Romance (#30) & Vampire Romance (#3) and it has 1100+ ratings with close to 5 Stars (at time I wrote this!)
🧛‍♂️ FREE ON KU! So if you have KU, give it a shot for sure!

Well, well, well after the cliffhanger on the last book I’m dying for this one!! Our bad boy Marlowe finally found our girl!! Thank Goddess and I hope he kicks Jerkface’s ass and taught him how to treat a mate.

I appreciated his street smarts, but I did not appreciate his deep scowl that was still trained on me. So I flicked a button on his long trench coat to annoy him. “Hey, you broke my door, vampire,” I said. He gave me another hard look. “It couldn’t be avoided.” “The shifters are going to bill you.” “They’re also welcome to sue me,”

Oh Goddess I really love Pip hahaha Marlowe is super intense and then Pip just… hahaha she’s the best seriously, making jokes and funny comments in the most tense moments, she just never cowers in no one presence damn awesome. Well, well, well… apparently our girl was a monster before she was captured by the crazy scientists… interesting. OMG Pip will talk and annoy Marlowe to death hahaha she just doesn’t stop blabbering about everything, who call a fucking vampire god sugar cheeks? Damn I really love her.

Marlowe grabbed me, lifted me like I weighed nothing, and shoved me through the hole in the wall. I waited outside anxiously and let out a relieved breath as soon as I saw him dive out headfirst, his palm landing on the grass before he leapt straight up. The vampire knew kung fu! I wondered if he’d learned the moves from Jet Li or even Bruce Lee.

Damn!! I’m laughing so hard hahahaha fucking hell hahahaha. Marlowe must think she’s nuts, yeah absolutely, all the torture and being a lab rat must have got to her head and now she doesn’t kill people with violence she just annoy them to death hahaha brilliant!!!

“I bet he’s sticking his dirty dick down Princess Blowjob’s deep throat right now, while my vampire superhero boldly takes me from you jerks’ top military compound. Go suck dicks and enjoy, fuckers. You’ll never get me.” I roared. “My vampire and I are going to ride into the sunset! Yahoohoo!”

I’m dying hahaha I’m laughing so hard I can’t even breathe hahaha Oh my fucking God hahaha. So… this Fairy girl… she’s a friend or a foe? I have a bitter feeling about her… but I’m not so sure, maybe is just my nature to be paranoid but maybe she likes our Sugar Checks and is jealous that he only has eyes for our girl even Pip being apparently a psycho bitch in the past.

OMFG we have Marlowe’s POV!!! Damn and even in a hot moment? FUCKING AMAZING!!! Guys… I can say something about all the kinky scene… Marlowe is… big hahaha and a control freak, c’mon man!! Just fuck deep for Goddess sake!! Marlowe is wildly possessive so is this a RH? Because I remember that when she broke the bond with Jerkface, it had broken in three pieces….

Woah Marlowe kinky talk is the best!! Damn I love it!!! And I swear I thought this was a RH I’m seriously hahaha, damn I’m terrible everything I read I want to be a RH… well maybe is something wrong with me uh? But I swear I really thought I read somewhere this was a RH… maybe I’m having hallucinations now ?

Ok so… just I think that Jared is weird? Like… he was all about protecting his people and trying to make the shifters strong and all, but suddenly after Pip broke the bond he sells two shifter cities to the mages??? TWO CITIES!!! Ok some people could say that he got crazy because of the broken bond but guys… this is too much, I smell something rotten…. I may have a wild guess… is he possessed? Or just being a sore loser?? I’m fucking confuse, is re really a villain? Damn this is soooo mysterious hahaha.

Guys in this book we have some really fucking cool battles, Pip’s is coming to her powers and damn the girl is fucking powerful and she makes the best jokes hahaha. Ok now I’m a little pissed with her… see ? Writing the review in the same time I’m reading the book may make me look crazy but damn… PIp is fucking smart she should see that something isn’t right with Jared!! Fucking hell im even calling him Jared… so you see how my liking for villains or misunderstood characters is deep.

Well… now things just hit the fan… and in a ugly fucking way… like really, Pip should had seen that coming since she’s fucking smart but no, she was doweling in the her past with Jared and then pah!! Big ugly shit hit the fan. Ok, ok I’m fucking confuse and intrigued… I don’t ducking know what is going to happen and I don’t even have a clue, but I can say this I’m getting bored and anxious to know who will be her next male because this book is definitely tagged how a RH and until now? We had Marlowe for practically TWO BOOKS, don’t get me wrong, I like him, but I also get bored easy and I WANT IMMEDIATELY to know the next guy…

Woah I’m astonished for what Marlowe confessed in his POV… damn that was a HARD decision he had to make, but he … even having to broke his own heart he did it, the guy is responsible this I can affirm… and the thing is punishment sometimes work, since Pip’s suffering for a century taught her even if she doesn’t remember, to be a good.

He might be the Vampire God, but our enemy was War, created for one purpose and one purpose only—to wage war, slaughter, and claim victory.

Damn Pip don’t say this or I’ll star getting empath with War… damn me and my childhood complex that makes me always justify villains actions… but guys… War was created for you know war so he is a force of nature, he is what he is, if Pip remembered her action before she wasn’t going to judge like this… she was death and guess what she brought death to everyone, without a ink of conscience, she just changed after being tortured for a century… maybe they should try to rehab War too…

Damn the sex scene was… intense and sweet baby Asmodeus that was fucking hot and entertaining hahaha I couldn’t even skip the pages because I’m anxious to know what will happen next, IT was so interesting that I read every word.

The Vampire God was more dominant than me in nature. I might be Death’s daughter, but he was the biggest, baddest predator. I couldn’t resist the need to submit to him. Deep in my bones, I knew he was the only male I’d ever surrender to.

I swear I’m not crazy this book should be a reverse harem… it’s fucking tagged how a reverse harem but this doesn’t look like this… fuck I’m anxious to know more… I don’t like being anxious argh… the cliffhanger in the end was so-so, I’m not much into the book anymore because… this absolutely shouldn’t be tagged how a Rh.

This book was funny if read with a open mind, but… to be honest Pip was just… childish and petty in this one, in the first book she was fun and interesting, she watched everything and learned how to fit in, but in this one? She was just too much, I liked her comments and all but the book started getting slightly boring, because was focused absolutely in her just wanting to fuck Marlowe …. I probably didn’t DNF because I’m hungry to read anything since I’m free until I have to go back to my particular hell, that isn’t really hell since I like there like a rehab clinic hahaha.

I couldn’t finish this book.. I gave up at 58%. I liked the first book in this series, but the things that was quirky and entertaining in the first biok just got out of hand and incredibly annoying in this one.
To be fair, there could be a reason for the main character’s deranged behaviour, she did go through trauma, so perhaps her childish, entitled and crazy behaviour is a coping mecanism or a symptom of something that would be revealed and hopefully solved by the end of the book, but I was done with her. It’s like she has two personalities, because her thoughts are sound and make sense to me, I cheered when had her fit of rage at the end of book 1, but whenever she opens her mouth and talks (wich she does a lot) it’s like it’s a complete different person. A very rude and immature one at that, and it was just exhausting and annoying to keep up with.

I noted in some reviews of book 1 that people found Pip acting in a very immature manner. I agree, but the reader needs to realize that she is extremely young emotionally, having only “awakened” a short time before being found by the shifters. She had no idea of her history or even who she was. This volume explores that even further as we see the recollections of the Vampire King regarding her first incarnation and how young and uncontrollable she’d been then. It also explains why the two of them had to be separated. He was pretty damn lucky that she re-emerged as the being he had hoped she would evolve into. Things could have turned out much differently.

The high prince is now the Alpha King. We don’t get an explanation of what happened to his father but I’m betting that War had something to do with it. Unfortunately we don’t see much of Shade.

Pip is still coming into her own and learning about her powers. I expect they all will emerge in the next book and what I think will be the final battle. She’s got something up her sleeve so we’re left hanging at the end of this book.

the most chaotic, wild ride

The book was phenomenal! With an intriguing plot filled with incredible character!

A highlight for me, in both a good and a not-so-good way, was the MC’s pure chaos personality. I love how easily she flips emotions and how she reacts to things without thinking- it made the story a lot more unpredictable. The bad is that as an empathetic reader my own emotions were all over the place!

Another highlight for me is the vast cast of unique and wonderful side characters! They really add to the story in the best ways!

The only thing I would have liked to see more of is the chapters written from Marlowe’s POV (there are two). Meg did great with using those two chapters to add to the story, but could have used his POV as a larger tool to develop their story.

Supernatural Gods/Shifters-Mages-Vampires/Rejected Mate

SYNOPSIS (of Trilogy): The FC is Death’s daughter. She has been held prisoner and tortured for over a century but escapes suffering amnesia. She meets her shifter fated mate, the Alpha Heir, who refuses to acknowledge her but will not let her go. Thinking she is a shifter she is enrolled in the shifter academy. Book 1 deals with her trying to figure out who she is and building friendships whilst dealing with being rejected by her fated mate and tormented by his girlfriend. Book 2 covers the FC discovering that she is also mated to the Vampire God and trying to remember their history after he saves her as well as fighting to not be taken back by the Alpha Heir. Book 3 moves on to the FC having to face off against her nemesis, War, and fighting to bringing him down whilst protecting her loved ones. The trilogy ends with a HEA.

The story is a good take on the “villain trying to steal powers” trope and has some nice twists and turns. It’s well written though has some irritating typos and word errors. Fortunately these are not too many. The FC is strong and likeable although I confess that by Book 3 I found her constant mouthiness taxing and, whilst funny in the main, very inappropriate, juvenile and annoying in other situations i.e. when meeting her long lost father. I’m pretty sure that even the FC would have been serious and no talked such drivel to him.

The story kept moving with sufficient events and turns to keep the readers interest. There were some disjoints with the story however such as the FC being immune to spells on the one hand but not always; the mention of her having a black magic blocking spell that was preventing her from fully accessing her magic was mentioned once and then forgotten; and the complete lack of involvement of the Alpha King or the European King in the whole story.

There are some hot sex scenes spread through the books although these seemed to go from 0-60 in seconds. One minute you are reading the story and the next you are in the middle of a crude sex scene which, whilst generally steamy, were pretty graphic and hard core in the terminology used (i.e. C*&t is used a lot) which I found to be jarring and not particularly sexy. The use of the sex scenes however is appropriate and generally furthers the story as opposed to being every 5 minutes as some authors are prone to do. Having said that, there are also a couple of who at feel like gratuitous ones - stopping to have sex in the middle of a rescue is really not the best timing ….

The MC is definitely swoon-worthy and the descriptions of him build a great picture of a sexy, strong Alpha male. Initially I thought this may be a RH story but it’s not. I was slightly disappointed at the lack of redemption by one of the main characters.

I marked Book 3 with only 4 stars as the FC and her big mouth had really started to become annoying unfortunately and not funny. Giving people nicknames was, at the beginning, cute and endearing but then just became annoying as did her insistence on wittering on and saying inappropriate things in the middle of serious moments. I’d have liked to have seen another side to the FC where she could be mature and serious, owning her role and position and not constantly a joke. The climax was, on the whole, good but unfortunately the final trap you saw coming a mile off and felt a bit contrived and weak. Having said that it was still a great climax, big battle with everyone getting a satisfying ending and the villains getting their comeuppance. Not sure what the Epilogue was about as it didn’t seem to achieve anything other than a gratuitous sex scene!

On the whole a worthwhile, enjoyable and well written trilogy. Will try another of this author’s books!
