Composure: The Art of Executive Presence is a book that shows what it means to have executive presence. I am to believe that it's a book that finds itself between the self-help and business genre.
My belief for this is due to the fact that the authors have experience as coaching consultants. They know what moves people's minds and why they could be feeling less confident or motivated in their day-to-day life. On one hand, they give their experience and perspective on how to be more "executive present" on employees, meaning more confidence, motivation, management, etcetera. On the other hand, this could also be helpful for the average person looking for success and control over their lives, but who doesn't really know how to achieve it.
What I mean by this is that sometimes people lack confidence or motivation and, sometimes, they just don't know how to overcome that. With that in mind, this book can really help everyone in regard to this big topics that are success, self-control and happiness, from a CEO to a stay at home mom.
The author defines Composing as "the creative act we bring to our clients... ". Clearly, this refers to teaching clients, corporate or not, new solutions and practices to have a better hold or control over their lives. As I wrote before, this book offers a physiological perspective on the why of the chaos in our lives and how we can fix that.
The book also gives a lot of thought to the Impostor Syndrome. Many corporate men and women suffer from it, lacking from self-determination, affecting eventually their happiness. Therefore, the author gives an insight on some key abilities to have more executive presence, what are the three phases that people go through having Impostor Syndrome and how to break through.
All in all, I would recommend this book to anyone. However, for those struggling with stress and anxiety, it could give a new perspective on what those factors that are causing them harm are, and maybe understand themselves a little more.
