The Quick Review:
Today I’m featuring another Fiona Quinn Mystery. If you thought you knew wedding troubles, I doubt they can compare to poor Fiona’s fiasco. An enigmatic mother-in-law, a mysterious necklace, fleeing the country pursued by sinister shady characters are just the beginning. Fiona never disappoints when it comes to madcap adventures.
The Plot:
C.S. McDonald knows how to weave a mystery. There is more intrigue in the first few pages than in most full novels. I don’t do spoilers in my reviews but we have a wedding that is redundant, a missing necklace belonging to the Queen of England, spies galore, and our intrepid amateur sleuth, Fiona up to her eyeballs in all of it.
The Pace:
As you might guess, the pace of this mystery is nonstop madcap chaos. That said, it isn’t difficult to keep everyone straight while reading. No note-taking is required.
The Characters:
Fiona Quinn is the star of the tale. However, her husband’s (to-be) mother Rita Landry is a close second. You are never quite sure what to believe when it comes to her wild antics. She could be anything from an exclusive dancer of the seven-veils to a triple agent up to no good. Nancy doesn’t let anything get in the way of protecting her children., Fiona and Chad. Nathan, Fiona’s significant other, is his usual overworked detective self, trying to stay ahead of the females in his life as well as the criminals. It’s a harrowing job, hence his addiction to mini Snickers bars. If you are looking for rogues, bit-players, and red herring characters, this story has plenty.
In Conclusion:
I highly recommend Matrimony, Mayhem, and Murder to all lovers of cozy mysteries. It’s over-the-top-fun and a very fast read. I always recommend reading a series in the order it was written. However, I didn’t follow my own rules for this book. I haven’t yet read several of the earlier books. I had no trouble following along. So, don’t let the fact that this is book ten sway you. Reading this one is a very enjoyable way to spend an evening.
