They thought they would have a fab time but it wasn't all peace and love!
This standalone novella begins with the Baxter children attending a concert by the most famous pop group of all time; The Beatles. England in the 1960s is a world more familiar to the children than other eras they have visited. However, not everything goes to plan and Robert, James and Lucy discover that Uncle Archie can't help them. Not only that - this time, it's not just their own well being that is at risk!
I live in a charming little town in Rutland, England’s smallest county—a setting that closely mirrors the world of my new cozy murder mystery series, The Shepton Rise Murders.
Before becoming a writer, I had a career as a textile designer and lectured in printed textiles at various UK art schools and universities. Eventually, I left it all behind in search of new adventures.
My writing journey began with the Stuck series, a historical time-travel adventure inspired by the kinds of stories I would have loved as a child. Next came The Rebel Runaways, a Victorian alternative history trilogy with a dash of Steampunk.
Now, I’ve pivoted once again and discovered a real passion for crafting cozy murder mysteries. The first four books in the series have been published, and I am currently mulling over ideas for the next one.
I love this series so much! This was another novella, but just like the other one-it packed a lot of awesomeness in those pages. It was interesting seeing them go to a time that is the closest to our current time that they’ve been so far. So many different parts of history from that times in here-as usual the author lets you know who & what are real that he used for his story, & what he made up based on other events/people. Of course I was researching away on so many things. There’s a cult aspect as one of the things the kids deal with in here, & that is always fascinating to me. I immediately looked up the person that the author based his fictional character on for that part. Such an intriguing story, & very frustrating with the outcome! I love history & learning & these books give me that & more-like a great sibling dynamic, great adventure, time travel, humor, danger, etc. I love these kids so much, & I was also so intrigued with what the author did with the “ability” the kids can sometimes get. Loved it, & I even love Big Bessie! Far out man! Lol Highly recommend this, & all of the books. Another beautiful cover by Jessica Bell Design as well!💜
I just loved this series and really hope the author has another book in the pipeline. This book is slightly shorter than the first three books being a novella, which I don't normally like because you just start to get into the story and it ends but that is not the case with this book. It hooks you in with the first couple of lines and doesn't let go until the end. This story being set closer to this era than the others was easier to imagine with things like old fashion telephone boxes etc and definitely a lot more names that I recognised, I might have even had my dad's Beatles records playing in my head while I read. The characters were once again a big reason why I liked the book, the situations they find themselves in and how they get out of it is great. I might have to use my own time machine and go back to the first book while I wait eagerly for the next book. My mum has started to read this series on my recommendation and after this book my dad might also too, just to bring back childhood memories. Come on England! The museum time machine is starting to play up again but as non of the children have gotten sick they don't know what is needed to fix it, all they have is a starting point four tickets to see the last show the Beatles ever preformed and a cafes name. The cafe leads the twins Robert, James and there sister Lucy to separate from there uncle and join the Rainbow people where they each have to discover there own paths to take. Uncle Archie falls fowl of the law in trying to pick up the siblings trail again and it is up to the children to save not only there uncle but also themselves and there new found friends. I was given this free review book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
Dave Johnson has delivered another novella in his Stuck series. ‘1966 No Time to Groove’ sees twins, James and Robert, and their sister Lucy, travel back in time to 1966 where hippies challenged the norms of the day wanting to live in communes, grow their own food and dance to the beat of their own drum. Once again Big Bessie needs them to return from the past back to the 21st century with items from 1966 to scan into the museum’s collection to avoid one of them turning invisible and ultimately losing their life. This time it’s Lucy who succumbs but she manages to find ways to solve all the problems that are thrown the children’s way and save Uncle Archie from a prison term as well. Johnson draws on facts from the ‘60’s but manages to mould them into a fascinating story of cults and communes. We are immersed in the culture of 1966 through his descriptions of fashion, transport, food, and even public phone booths - an archaic system of speaking to each other in ‘the olden days’.
I enjoyed this time travel novella penned by Dave Johnson. This time the Baxter children were lucky enough to attend a Beatles concert, but things go awry, and Uncle Archie isn't around to help them. I find these stories about the time traveling Baxter children to be very entertaining and I like the bits of historical information presented. I recommend the tales to others. Rachel Laurence's narration was great, as she told the story in a style that fits the story. I was given a free copy of the audiobook and I have voluntarily left this review.
This was another amazing addition to the Stuck series. I loved learning about the 60s alongside the siblings. The author really transports you back to this time while reading this book.
I feel like I was immersed in the culture of 1966 through the people and the places the siblings and Uncle Archie went to. I enjoyed reading about their adventures while they discovered the secrets behind a cult and tried to prevent Uncle Archie from getting sent to prison. There was so much to discover in this book!
I always love the characters in the Stuck series. The author is always consistent with the characters! I love reading about the siblings and their Uncle as they try and find what they need and go back home.
I enjoyed this instalment of the Stuck series. It was a very exciting read! I can’t wait to see what is next for this author!
