Kai - Making it Count

Rate this book
Kai loves Maths and desperately wants to be chosen to represent his school on his favourite TV show ‘Jayden’s Maths Maze.’ He secretly hopes that if he gets on the show, people at school will like him more. However, nothing is ever that simple and things don’t quite go as Kai hoped.
This Christian fiction for 6–9-year-olds shows how following Jesus can change your life and has questions in the back to encourage discussion.

I love books - As a child, I used to be naughty just to get sent to my room, where I'd snuggle up with another good book (Mum soon cottoned on!).
I still love reading, and think ebooks are the best invention ever - meaning I'm always reading whenever I have a spare moment and often well into the night.
I've now started writing. I write for children, but am branching out into the world of YA, under the watchful and scathing eye of my teenage daughter.
My world-view comes into my writing, and so my work is faith-based and real.

Kai – Making it Count follows on from the first book in the Kai series by Joy Vee, Kai – Born to be Super. Kai is learning what it means to be friends with Jesus, but he has other things to distract him. Like the chance to be on TV and to demonstrate once and for all just how good he is with numbers.
But things unexpectedly happen and Kai has to learn to deal with disappointment, and to walk the path of being misunderstood and misjudged. Yet through it all he discovers that what really counts is how you treat people, and doing what Jesus wants you to do.
As with her other books Joy Vee writes about spiritual truths, and what it means to be a Christian, in a way that is so accessible to children. Her storytelling is fabulous and the scenarios totally believable. This book also has discussion questions at the back of the book and could be used as a family or teaching resource.
Kai – Making it Count is probably my favourite of Joy’s books. I loved the story and I love the real superhero Kai is becoming. Hoping there will be many more books in this series.

In the second book in the Kai series, Making It Count, Joy Vee takes us on another adventure with Kai. Poor Kai is misunderstood and can’t seem to get a word in to explain the situation (haven’t we all been there!). I don’t want to say too much and give any spoilers – just buy the book and see for yourself. My favourite line: ‘I’m not an Angel, Mrs Johnson. But God knows my name.’
