Sophisticated and suspenseful, this debut novel by award-winning author Sandra A. Miller explores how long-buried secrets have the power to shatter a seemingly perfect life.
Dr. Gregory Weber has a thriving career, a beautiful family, and an elegant home in one of Boston's most desirable suburbs. But he is haunted by a secret—a fatal mistake he made at seventeen. No one else knows about it, or so he believes, until Mira, an unscheduled patient, begins appearing in his office each Wednesday at 1 p.m.
When Mira displays uncanny insight into Gregory’s guilt and pain, his professional boundaries blur. Soon Gregory becomes desperate to uncover his connection to Mira and keep his shameful past from infecting his life.
In searching for answers, Gregory risks losing everything that matters: his family, his marriage, and his mind.

I had to just untag all of the shelves, I had marked for this book-IT IS NOT THE PSYCHOLOGICAL SUSPENSE novel, I expected from the book synopsis.
Dr. Gregory Weber has a thriving career, as a therapist but he is haunted by a secret—a fatal mistake he made at seventeen. No one else knows about it, or so he believes, until Mira, an unscheduled patient, begins appearing in his office each Wednesday at 1 p.m.
She seems to KNOW about his lies of omission and she seems to accept him anyway, which makes him feel freer with her, than with anyone else.
He becomes obsessed with her, and their hourly talks, which in turn causes more friction and distance between him and everyone else in his life.
Who is she, and why has she turned up now? What is she looking for?
This is a story of REMORSE and FORGIVENESS, which reads more LIKE a Christian Fiction novel than it does one of psychological suspense though there is also an element of something else-which would be a *spoiler* if I shared it…
If this is something you are looking for, the characters are well developed and feel like people you might be friends or neighbors with…
But, if you were looking for what I was looking for-you won’t find it here! 🫤

Gregory Weber is a respected psychologist, husband, and father in his Boston suburb. Despite a pleasant and put-together image, most people, including those closest to Dr. Weber, don’t know he holds a deep secret — One that has haunted him for years.
When an unscheduled patient begins to show up for weekly appointments on Wednesdays at 1 and command control during their sessions, Gregory becomes infatuated with her. What does she know about him and why does he feel so drawn to her? As Gregory tries to uncover this connection, his family grows concerned by his aloof and unusual behavior.
Wednesdays at One does have an element of suspense but it’s worth noting this book is not a thriller and it is a slow burn. I had a heads up on this before reading it, and was able to manage my expectations, so I’m sharing the PSA here for other readers. I enjoyed this story for the most part and was curious to see how things would play out — 3.5 stars
Thank you to NetGalley and Zibby Books for providing an advance reader copy in exchange for an honest review.
It is rare these days that I read the synopsis of a book before choosing to read it, but in the case of Wednesdays at One by Sandra A. Miller I did and decided to read it because it sounded right up my alley. Unfortunately, this book is not the suspenseful novel I hoped it would be, and I would definitely put it in the general/literary fiction buckets. There is a slight air of mystery surrounding the storyline due to the reader not knowing what Gregory's big secret is, but that does not turn this into an actual mystery or a thriller for that matter. In general, this is a heavier read and Miller does dive into more than one unsettling topic making it rather gritty and dark at times as well.
The audiobook wasn't anything special for me, although I did think the narrator Steven Jay Cohen did a good job with Gregory. He was able to do a great job infusing the emotion his character was feeling into his words, and he brought all of the characters to life in an impressive way. It took me quite a while to get into the story even though this is a short book with just over 300 pages, and I wonder if reading it would have made it worse or better for me. I really just don't think I am the target audience for Wednesdays at One and I would say if you went in expecting a mysterious general fiction novel as opposed to a full-blown mystery or thriller, you may like it a lot better. It did hold my attention up until the end, and it covered some very important topics in a very smart way. Though I didn’t love this, I would definitely read Miller again.
Thank you to the publisher and Libro.fm for my complimentary listening copy of this book. All opinions and thoughts are my own.
Sandra A. Miller returns following her memoir, Trove: A Woman's Search for Truth and Buried Treasure, with her latest gripping psychological suspense, WEDNESDAYS AT ONE —atmospheric and intriguing, a mystery woman shows up at 1 pm on Wednesdays to a psychologist's office with surprising revelations that will bring long-buried secrets to the surface and ultimately change lives.
Dr. Gregory Weber appears to have it all from the outside —professionally and personally. He has a beautiful home in one of Boston's most desirable suburban neighborhoods, a loving wife, a daughter and son, and a thriving practice as a therapist.
However, Gregory has a dark secret from his past that occurred when he was seventeen. He never revealed this secret to his wife and family, fearing they would reject him. His best friend committed suicide due to this event. If this event came out and the part he played, it could shatter his perfect life.
Then this beautiful woman named Mira appears at his office without an appointment and seems to know about this past. She is the one asking the questions, wearing her beautiful scarf. She shows up for four Wednesdays at 1:00 pm, and he looks forward to her visits. He is entranced.
He has suffered great pain and regret for many years with guilt about his friend and past secrets. Can he unburden himself? Mira knows things. How can she know? Who is this woman? Is he losing his mind?
In the meantime, Gregory has been withdrawn at home and very distant from his wife and kids. He has not been a good husband, father, or brother to his sister, nor has he been there for her to help care for their sick, elderly dad, blaming his strict environment for his past.
His other friend, Phil, also hides secrets, and neither has confided in the other. The what ifs? What if we could have a do-over for the tragedies that happen in the blink of an eye?
At the funeral, the past and present collide when all the pieces come together about the events of the past and that tragic night that changed their lives.
Mira has her own secrets as well.
CAPTIVATING! WEDNESDAYS AT ONE is a character-driven, beautifully written, mysterious, and intriguing tale of self-forgiveness and healing. Guilt, lies, regrets, shame, and secrets—the truth will often set you free.
Gregory wrestles with his humanity and conflicted heart, struggling with his past secrets until he can come forward to those he loves. It makes you appreciate what you have in front of you. A mix of psychological and domestic suspense, family, mystery, paranormal/magical realism, and literary fiction.
I enjoyed WEDNESDAYS AT ONE immensely and look forward to reading more from this talented author. For fans of authors Joyce Maynard, Rea Frey's (8/15) The Other Year and William Landay's All That Is Mine I Carry with Me.

I started Wednesdays at One for my lunch break reading, thinking it would be something I got through over a week. Instead, the moment I got home I sat down and had to read it in one go. I could not put it down.
Wednesdays at One follows therapist Dr. Gregory Weber as the secret he's held onto his entire life threatens to break through. The older he gets, the more distant his children become, the longer he lets his marriage strain, it's all piling and he believes the key is the secret. Enter a new, beautiful patient who refuses to follow the usual rules of therapy. She asks questions back, she knows things, she holds a power over him that is addicting. The world freezes every Wednesday at one, but outside Gregory's life is becoming more twisted and the turmoil has reached its peak.
A fairly tame thriller, in terms of psychological mind games, Wednesdays at One is more of an introspective drama about the harm of guilt and secrets. While I figured out some things fairly early, it didn't diminish the enjoyment of watching Gregory's life get more complicated, while also somehow making him know himself a little better. The family aspect can sometimes hurt a story, giving a reader too much to pay attention to, but in this case it captured how an individual can have it all, can make it all happen, and can still be suffering in the weeds. All the success and love won't be enough with a thorn in your side.
Wednesdays at One is a fantastic release from Sandra A. Miller, that isn't a true thriller, but is an excellent read.
Dr. Gregory Weber is burdened by his memories; guilt and self-hatred leeching the life out of him. He thinks that no one notices this; that he has manipulated them into thinking he is a self-assured and capable man. As a clinical psychologist, he should be more than aware of the adverse affect this has on mental and physical health. However, this is a doctor incapable of healing himself.
This book asks the questions: what can our guilt manifest; what if it decides to be acknowledged: and what will be our response when it does?
Told in the manner of a psychological thriller, we are treated to a paranormal story about forgiveness and healing.
I would like to thank LibraryThing and Zibby Books for the opportunity to read and review this book.
This is being advertised as a thriller but it isn't. It's more of a novel on forgiveness and honesty and how one event can change your life until it's faced and dealt with. While the mystery at the beginning was a compelling one, I was disappointed in the explanation. There were also some coincidences that I felt were a bit unbelievable. Some readers are finding this one very addictive so it may just have been me.
I enjoyed this one, it was different than what I expected, and I would not quite call it a thriller but more of a mystery with a touch of paranormal to it. Dr. Gregory Weber is a successful psychologist that has a secret, and then a patient begins shows up each Wednesday at 1pm knowing things about this secret that causes him to frantically figure out what is going on and at this same time figure out how to keep his past in the past.
I thought this was well done and that the paranormal element was additive to the story. It took a minute to keep the characters straight as I listened to this via audio (which was very good btw), but after I got it straight it was fine and the ending tied it all together nicely along with a twist I did not expect. I was able to finish this in one setting and it held my attention easily throughout. I definitely recommend this one just be aware as I noted up front it is not a thriller.
Thank you to Zibby Books and LibroFM for the copies to review.
Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC of Wednesdays at One.
The premise was intriguing so I wasn't sure what to expect.
The narrative started out well, until I realize the story wasn't what I had imagined.
This isn't a thriller or a mystery; it's a story about forgiveness, acceptance, and understanding.
Joke's on me since I was expecting a standard mystery or thriller, and not really in the mindset for a story about a struggling psychologist trying to deal with the mistakes of his past and his daddy issues.
I also wasn't a fan of how Gregory and Phil are both linked to Mira.
I don't believe in coincidences and I felt this 'twist' felt phony, contrived.
The writing was fine, but the story didn't grab me.
I didn't care or relate to Gregory, nor did I care about his problems with his past, his strained relationships with his family, and the constant monologuing in his head about the tragedy he caused.
This might be a simple case of this not being the right book for me but some readers might enjoy it.

Intriguing read Mysterious with a twist A study of grief and forgiveness
I was sucked into this story immediately - a story of a Cambridge psychiatrist whose perfect life comes unraveling and revealing past traumas, after a mysterious patient appears in his office on Wednesdays at 1 pm.
Author Sandra Miller writes with utmost understanding of mental health, grief, and self forgiveness, in this gripping novel.
This was a page turner. I had to know who Mira was, I figured out one twist about half way thru, but that ending twist made me gasp! This wasn’t an edge of your seat read, but it was super suspenseful and I absolutely loved the plot. I would recommend this if you are looking for a good suspense. This will be released in July.
I thought this was going to be a thriller based on the synopsis, but it isn’t. I still enjoyed it and would recommend to anyone looking for a book about relationships, remorse, and forgiveness.
The characters were written so well. Gregory especially as the reader gets a lot of his internal thought. The novel shows how your past can affect your future and I really struggled with disliking Gregory at times because I also had to try to understand how badly his regrets and lies messed up his life.
There was a twist at the end I didn’t see coming and liked a lot.
3.5 ⭐️ This book was a bit of a surprise for me. I enjoyed reading it and was surprised by the twist. It was a bit wordy for me and the ending was too neat in my opinion, but it was a solid book that I’d recommend to readers. I did the audio and I enjoyed the narrator too!
This psychological mystery debut novel had my attention from the first page. I raced through this one trying to figure out Gregory’s life changing secret. I was completely surprised with the shocking twist at the very end. I appreciated the way the author focused on writing a story about forgiveness and second chances, my favorite themes in a book.
I received an electronic advanced copy (eARC) from publisher Zibby Books and Netgalley. Thank you for the opportunity to preview this book.
Wednesdays at One is the kind of psychological thriller I love--dangerous emotional stakes, big secrets, uncertainty at every turn, and I was deeply invested from the first page. Miller illuminates the interior life of her protagonist, Gregory, with gorgeous specificity, and I was deeply compelled by the mystery and pain at the center of this novel.
The author's sense of place and wise, slyly funny observations create richness and depth, and the empathy and grace with which she presents socioeconomic and class considerations are striking and relevant.
In this captivating audio book, you'll embark on a thrilling adventure that blends multiple genres together, creating a unique and unpredictable narrative. However, if paranormal elements aren't your cup of tea, you might find some parts of the story a bit challenging to fully embrace.

So, if you're open to exploring various genres, this audio book promises an enthralling journey with its diverse storytelling prowess. In the end, the well-crafted characters and engaging narration make it worth a listen for genre enthusiasts, despite the potential challenges posed by the paranormal elements.
If you enjoyed Locust Lane by Steven Amidon, you will like this book. It’s not a super suspenseful read, or even a thriller, but more of an emotional journey that holds onto you the whole way through. The story is well written, holding back at moments to keep your attention while giving you everything it’s got at the same time. The story is really about a man who carries the burden of guilt, and can no longer deal with its weight. The effect it has on his life choices and relationships is astounding. He gets an eye opening visit, piggy backed with his father’s failing health, creating a deep break in his emotional walls. I felt like I was there with him through his whole awakening, and it broke my heart. Every now and then I like to slip these kinds of books into my TBR. It’s good to remind yourself to be thankful for what you have and take a moment for reflection. This book will make you do that.
This was a highly addictive psychological thriller with it all: a troubled past causing a distracted present, family drama on all sides, a mystery of supernatural proportions and the threads of unexpected love stories, too. Dr. Gregory Weber is an accomplished therapist who has dedicated his life to helping others, even if he cannot seem to help the state of his own family. But when an unexpected patient arrives, Gregory’s world is turned upside down as he faces things from his past that have been holding him hostage in his own life for years. Every Wednesday at one, Gregory wrestles with his own humanity, his conflicted heart and even the status of his own mind. This book was captivating on all fronts.
WEDNESDAYS AT ONE hit the @usatoday bestseller list this week! 🎉 This debut novel explores the damaging power of secrets and shame as one man risks everything to discover the identity of a mysterious woman who keeps showing up at his office—and what exactly she may know about his past. This book definitely gives readers that unsettled feeling as you try to piece everything together and figure out what’s happening. My favorite part of the book is how @sandra.a.miller writes about Gregory and his wife: their relationship felt so real to me and she captured the nuances of marriage so well! Grab this one if you’re looking for a suspenseful read with depth!
This novel has it all. Gorgeous writing, characters I adored, mystery, suspense, and magic. It’s a poignant portrayal of the way memory can alter the present, and the way your past can affect the way you love. The importance of forgiveness, not only of others, but of yourself. I couldn’t WAIT to find out what happened, and stayed up until 2 am to finish it. While thrilling I think it is too sophisticated to be called a “thriller.” It’s a literary/suspense/romance/journey/speculative novel, but most of all it’s a f*#+@ing great read.
This book was NOT what I expected. It’s starts pretty quickly with a surprise visitor to a troubled man who happens to be a psychiatrist and then we learn about his life, his family and his very strained relationships. It does tend to go on a bit in the middle, but after a major life event the story takes off and takes you on a ride that you will not forget. Four stars! Thank you Zibby Publishing and Netgalley for the e ARC!
