"The beauty of Pauley’s work is that he makes the reader (relatively) comfortable with these fun, weird elements and then injects the narrative with short bursts of deep thinking and questions that cut to the marrow of human nature." — Gabino Iglesias, author of The Devil Takes You Home

William Pauley III has been praised by critics and readers alike for his contributions to weird science fiction and horror over the last 15 years. He's received rave reviews from Fangoria Magazine, Verbicide, and Dead End Follies, the latter stating "William Pauley III is one of the most recognizable voices in weird literature." 3⭐️; Audiobook; Comedy;

I had to split the rating - 4⭐️ for WPIII & 2⭐️ for ZO.

This novel consists of 2 smaller novellas, one by WPIII and the other by Owens.

The Naked brunch by WPIII was utterly hilarious!! His narration and voices really adding to the all around hilarity of the story. When you are born, you are instantly assigned to your forever job, luckily for our MC he wasn’t assigned to shit duty (where all the perverts are LOL). First rule of this new world is don’t you dare fucking look at someone else’s watch. Otherwise you're due to get a fist up your ass.

The story follows our newborn MC through the start of his life in this bonkers naked world.

Unfortunately the second novella didn’t really do it for me, especially after the craziness I just listened too. Not much to say on this front.

But I would recommend picking it up for the first half alone!

Moments after finishing The Naked Brunch, oddly enough my brother calls and invites me to brunch for next day with the family. Immediately I’m like, “Heck yeah, bro, I just got done with The Naked Brunch and totally want more.” So then he’s like, “WTF?” and I’m like, “Wait, what? Oops. Never mind. See ya there!” Then I got up to run out for a bucket of KFC to snack on in the meantime because the first story had me feigning for it. Unfortunately, I knocked over my shit jar and got punished for that with a fist up my ass. (Lol, I’m referring to funny things characterized in William’s story.) Probably won’t make it to brunch now, but that gives me time to reflect on ZTO’s much longer, deeper story. Dark at times, total bizarro other times; a good balance. I dunno, it maaaybe kind of reminded me of a Zachary T. Owen version of Beetlejuice? I liked it. It was a well-written dream/nightmare-like story. Give the book a go and don’t be shy to let it all hang out.

The future can be saved

I liked the first story Naked Brunch as it was easy to follow and kind of held my attention. The second story was hard to follow and kind of confusing. Both are well written and conclude with a specific point of future content. I think most people will enjoy the book, just not my type of sci-fi.

The first story was vile and depressing and made me uncomfortable. The second story was absurd and depressing and made me laugh.

Of the two novellas, the first one kept me more engaged. The shear amount of vulgarity would really turn off some people and did have me feeling very squeamish at times, but I felt like it was necessary to push forward the narrative. Both novellas left me feeling very dumbstruck as to what in the world I just read.
