Donuts and demons, oh my!

When Brighton Skeenbaur comes out of retirement, she comes out swinging. One minute she’s minding her own business, attending her monthly book club, and the next… bam, she’s staring at a dead body.

It’s been a long time since Brighton got involved in a murder mystery, but this time, she feels compelled. While her sleuthing puts her at odds with her son-in-law, and his entire department, Brighton can’t back down.

But Kinsley is glad for the help. She’s up to her neck in Coven issues and did not want to get involved in another murder mystery. Still, she’ll lend a helping hand whenever she can. And as always, Meri is more than willing to lend a helping paw.

After all these years, can Brighton still solve a crime one spell at a time?

With Kinsley busy with her new donut shop and the Coven, Brighton and Remi often babysit their grandchildren. Mostly Hekate since Lainey is in preschool. One of the things she's missed since Kinsley's return to town is Meri. Although he still visits he most often is with Kinsley or Hekate.

While Remi is more of a homebody, enjoying the children or researching on the web. Brighton likes to get out more. On this occasion she has errands to run and her first stop is the grocery store. She has a confrontation with someone who looks familiar, but she can't place. He gets thrown out of the store but it's still unsettling. Her next stop is the hardware store and then she realizes he followed her as she's talking to her cousin Aria. Aria's quick thinking gets him tossed out of there as well.

That night is her book club and the book was boring and the discussion not much better. After a couple of sneaked drinks and some of the sweets provided Brighton steps out for some air. The property has a large pond and she wandered down and walked out onto the deck. Suellen, another of the book club members joins her and she spots something in the water. With a touch of magic, Brighton brings it toward them, it looks like a log, but it isn't.

Not only was the person dead but his ghost is hanging around as well. It's the man who had harassed and followed her earlier.

When Jeremy and Thorn get there, the investigation begins, and Meri shows up. Of course you know Brighton isn't going to stay out of it, she's been itching to do something new. So when Jeremy and Thorn start down the path that goes from the property to town, she follows with Meri.

Kinsley is still handling the aftermath of the aborted attempt to take the Coven. She still has to find Ellie who led the charge, and she has to deal with the others as well.

There's Fae and possible demons in this one. A new character in the form of Brax, and Lilith is part of this one as well. Brighton's mother shows up, we meet a dragon shifter and well this one has plenty of twists and turns to go with the mysteries involved.

I'm already reading the next book I can't seem to stop reading these.

Donut Cravings

So when you have a series like this, the details really do matter. The color of the donut shop is purple. There was an entire dialogue about why it was purple instead of pink in the previous book. So you can’t just switch it to pink in the next book! It’s the same thing you did with Tangerine, Buffy and Jeremy and Reggie suddenly being married. Also switching between single person point of view to multi-person point of view adds to the series disjointed feeling.

Kinsley is barely part of this book. Hekate has a bigger role. Kinsley’s mom, Brighton, infringes on a murder investigation. She is confronted by a creeper during errands only to discover his body while at a book club meeting. In between the sleuthing, Brighton’s past gets sprinkled in like a toddler adding glitter to a painting, clumsily. She sees her brothers specter and that’s it. Never gets mentioned again. Brighton’s mother comes to town for a manipulative visit only to have Lilith put the kibosh on Brighton’s mom. That encounter is followed up by a call from a nurse informing Brighton that her estranged father had been admitted. Father is never mentioned again. The only time Brighton’s mother is mentioned again is when Lilith gets involved in sleuthing. She says she needs to pick up her jar where she put Brighton’s mom. They never pick up the jar. The dead guy turns out to be not just a little disturbed but a lot disturbed. He is a freaky stalker. The investigation leads to former girlfriends, stalker victims, car dealerships and a random dragon shifter (which is also clumsily scattered into the book). In the end the stalker preyed on someone crazier and worse than him, and Brighton stumbled upon this person. The final scene feels rushed and clumsy.

Hope Springs Infernal is the sixteen book in the Familiar Kitten Mysteries Series.

Kinsley's mom, Brighton, comes out of her retirement and soon find a dead body so she just needs to jump into investigate.

This is a fun fast-pace paranormal cozy mystery with wonderful characters, it's page turning read full of magic, mystery, suspense that keeps me entertained as I tried to figure out who was the killer and what would happen next. I really enjoyed it and I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.

I love these books!

As my title says I love these books! I must admit I haven't read any of the other series yet, but that's about to change. These books are really terrific they have great characters, The familiars steal the show, and I love Lilith! If you need something that makes you smile, might make you laugh out loud, then you need to read this author and this series. Last evening I was at home with no power, with a terrible storm raging outside that uprooted trees and so forth, but I was inside reading with a flashlight and still found something to laugh about. Now that's good medicine!

She has decided to come out of retirement and she will soon be in the middle of a mystery when a dead body appears. They do not have time to deal with another murder mystery so they are glad she will help. How will she find the clues? Will there be more bodies? Will she find who is behind the murder? See if she does

Another great story!

I have been reading about Brighton, Kinsley and Meri from the beginning. The stories are always good and fed engaging and this one was a wonderful read as well. I love a good murder mystery and when you throw in a little witchcraft what's not to like. Thank you Sara for giving us some wonderful books to read.

Hope Springs Infernal, good story

Hope Springs Infernal, the 14th book in the Familiar Kitten Mysteries series, is a little twist on the first 13 books. Kinsley's mother is the main character and sleuth on this book. I miss a bit of the other books' humor, but the twist is refreshing. I'm enjoying the series.

Enjoy the stories, but---
The series is delightful, but it seems like everyone has at least one typo. I have reported them on here, and supposedly they are reported, but the dumb things interrupt the flow of the story. This time it changed a detail of the story. Doesn't "hurt" anything, it just makes me tired. Still going with the series as they are "cute".

Easy reading and fun

Although the topic is witches and solving murders I find this whole series light and delightful. I like the characters and the cat mediums and the small town feel of the series.

New Sleuth! How Awesome!

Loved learning more about Brighton. Definitely proves Kinsley definitely shares a lot in common besides being witches! Never expected the murderer which once again shows how amazing Sara is at writing a great story! On to the next!

Hope Springs Infernal is a fun cozy mystery. This book is a bit different as it is told in Kinsley's mom's perspective. I really enjoyed that and that more magic was used in the book. I really enjoyed this book. The mystery is interesting and has many surprises. I loved this book. This is a fantastic series and I can't wait for more.

always an entertaining supernatural cozy mystery series

And always entertaining supernatural cozy mystery series. A fun cast of characters and an entertaining storyline. This series is technically a spinoff of the original series. Normally in the series Kinsley is the one that goes out and helps her husband solve crimes around town. She is the leader of the skin bore coven of witches. Her mother who is the main character in the original series is named brighten screen door and she did the same thing when Kinsley‘s husband father was a sheriff back in the day and later after he left when the new sheriff came to town and she married her husband Remi and she continue to solve crimes during that original series and then she had her baby Kinsley who then grew up in the second generation of stories began. In this book Brighton is the one that goes back out and gets involved in a murder investigation and you know for the most part the gist of the story. Read on and find out what happens in this chapter of the story. Always entertaining and a fun read.

It was good to see more of Brighton this book. I loved her series. The Aunties in this book were hilarious, especially regarding Brighton's mother. The mystery was good and mostly I thought it was just funny. Meri's snarking had a lot to do with it. Looking forward to the next book.
