Eva Dresden writes dark romance that lives up to its name with every turn of the page. Her heroines are tragic and strong, her heroes are anything but, and tearing characters apart to see what makes them really tick is a favored past time.
My intuition is tingling because the other day I decided to reread passages from Rite of the Omega, enjoyed it so much I decided to try other works. Didn’t get into her other omegaverse series but the sample for the first book in this series was intriguing enough! And now I find the third one is being published in a month 😮
This is Omegaverse, if you don’t know what it is, please take the time to look it up before you judge this book. It may not be everyone’s cup of tea but it’s DEFINITELY Mine. *Grins*
I Give this Book a 3.5/5 Star Rating, Listing as 4.

Thing’s definitely didn’t go at all as I was expecting, and I did have a few questions here and there. But the book wraps up pretty decent.
Brutal. Great for any fan of dark Omegaverse! The way this author writes is fascinating. She has a way of etching the emotion into your soul with her words. That being said, it makes the highs soaring and the lows excruciating. And I just can't get enough. The cameos from characters from her other series made me happy, even if they were quite good situations for our present main characters. I was really rooting for Max there for a while but in the end Devin made her choice. I wish Rey would communicate a bit more directly, especially when she was in such heartache. But I am so happy for how things worked out for our heroine and my goodness that epilogue was amazing. Can't wait to see what this author has in store for us next!
I’m utterly drained after reading this. It’s a very dark compelling story that reels you in. Misery literally bleeds from almost every page in the book. Be ready to fortify yourself against the massive onslaught of angst, wretchedness and pain.
The entire time I was reading this novel I kept thinking of that one Tumblr post that's like, "If I were an omega in the omegaverse universe I'd get a hysterectomy. I don't want to deal with it, just spay my ass" because like honestly Devin goes through so much in these books. Poor girl never got a break.
We waited a long time for this book... and it was so freaking worth it! I loved this series. I think one of the things I loved most about it is the fact that if you have read the Omega Destruction series you will recognize a lot of these characters in this book. Also in certain events in this book you will know right where it aligns in that series. It was so freaking amazing.
I have to admit that I was rooting for Max for awhile to win Devin over. There were a few times that I thought he was gonna pull it off. I was kind of sad that it didn't.
Rey.. I loved and hated that alpha both at the same time. He was just so hardheaded. So sure that he was always right, even when he was wrong. He did so many wrong things.. all out of jealousy. He made me want to strangle him so many times and just scream at him to listen to what he was being told. The problem was he listened for all of two seconds before going back to what he was doing before that wasn't working! 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️
Beau... He is another I had a love/hate relationship with. But I am glad to see he wasn't as bad... deep down as I feared he would be. There were many times he was taking Devin's side over Rey's. and every time it happened I was always shocked for some reason. 🤣🤣🤣 I hope Beau gets his own story. He deserves his own omega and happiness... that epilogue... gives me hopes that his story might be next.
This is the last book of this fantastic dark Omegaverse series and I’m so sad to see it end because I loved every character.
In this book, it delves more into the relationship between Rey, Beau and Devin; however, as Devin and Rey become more bonded, Rey’s possessiveness knows no bounds leaving Beau and Rey’s relationship changing.
Devin on the other hand is an omega that is way too head strong, independent and test Rey and Beau at every turn. However, this causes others to take advantage and puts her in danger.
This series ends with a HEA for Rey and Devin and hopefully will lead into a possible book for Beau. I hope so because despite Beau being Beau, he deserves his own omega and HEA.
In closing, this author is fast becoming one of my favorite Omegaverse writers and I highly recommend all her books for those who like it a little dark.
I have received this as an ARC, and this is my honest review!
I really liked this series, it's been a long time since I read an Omegaverse that good. I just have some remarks: The writing style can be a little difficult for someone for whom english is not the first language (like me!).
I was so happy the h wasn't gang raped in this one!
I Didn't like the fact Rey was a subordinate to Tobias! I mean he was the MMC here, why don't make him as strong as the MMC from the first series? I'm maybe old school, but in a story where an Alpha is supposed to be the H, I want him to be the "Alphaest"!
I'm not interested in a story of Beau with another Omega (He's no anti hero material, more OM material, plus he was in love with Rey).... On the other hand, I'll read a story about Max!
There was a HEA ending that has an after taste of a HFN ending.
Eva Dresden's Omegaverse books are one of the bests I've read so far. It's a style I love, but unfortunately, I'm rarely satisfied by what is published.

Forfeit picks up right where Trapped left us on a massive cliffhanger. This third and final installment of The Cost of Desperation was quite the emotional roller coaster, with all the parties involved being put through the wringer. While I enjoyed the book and am a huge fan of Ms. Dresden's writing, it did get frustrating with the lack of communication and all the unnecessary hurt and poor decisions that ensued. Rey just never fully won me over and, therefore, I couldn't root for his and Devin's HEA as fully as I had for other couples. I really enjoyed cameos of beloved characters from prior books set in this world. Despite my misgivings, this was still a very engrossing, complicated, messy yet beautiful love story perfect for those who prefer their romance truly dark. I can't wait to see what comes next for this author.
‘For all the anger and unsaid words between them through their time together, she loved him. He was hers as much as she was his, and she’d die without him.’
Devin continues to be pulled in so many directions in Eva Dresden’s book 3, Forfeit. The last book in her The Cost of Desperation Omegaverse series.
Independent Devin must strengthen her bond and make decisions that could affect her forever in this high-angst, physical and psychologically painful read.
Wonderfully written, it will have your blood soaring as you attempt to see the oath that Eva and Devin will take to happiness.
What a roller coaster ride this book/series was. At one point, I was afraid of where the story was heading and I was dreading what was coming, but then I was pleasantly surprised. It really made me debate on whether Devin made the right choice or not. Near the end, I almost want to see things from Rey's POV. However, I am satisfied with the ending. I must say though, I am really intrigue with Max and hope he'll make an appearance in his own book or in another series of this universe as I feel there is still a lot the author can delve into and expand on.
The final book in Devin and Rey's series! I love this author. She knows how to drag her characters thru so many things and then finally gives them their HEA. And boy does she for that to Devin. I will say I wanted to shake both them off when Devin is pregnant and they both make assumptions instead of talking to each other. But I loved how Rey finally became the Alpha he was supposed to be. I also loved when Devin finally figures herself out.
This series has been dark and delicious the entire way through and this installment is no different. This journey has been so emotionally gut wrenching. Its been so beautifully written and I am obsessed with these characters. I am an RH girl at heart and I either pick the wrong guy, or want both in a story lol but I am happy with the way this story turned out. I love dark omega verse and morally grey alphas. Loved this story!
OMG! What a conclusion! My emotions were all over the place. Don't know about you but I had a box of tissue handy. Devin and Rey, what can I say. Rey at times is misunderstood with his actions and Devin is not sure of her own feelings and thoughts. An unexpected event happens and it can either make or break them. What a journey and I'm exhausted! Thank you Eva!
If you like your stories sweet and happy you're in the wrong place. However, if you want a story that's going to push you to the edge of an emotional cliff you've found it. This isn't a stand alone, though, so you must read the first two.
This was a hard read, not so much for the physical/psychological situations most books are known for, but because my heart almost couldn't take it. The pain and anguish was almost unbearable. I kept wondering how things were going to end, and if there would be a happily ever after. Without giving anything away, I will say that the ending took a turn I wasn't expecting.
This story was more than worth the wait and I would give it more stars if I could.
