I fell in love with storytelling as a child when my paternal grandmother regaled us with stories of what it was like to come to Louisiana from the hills of Appalachia and set up house in a tent with a dirt floor. On the other side of the family tree, my paternal grandfather, a people loving preacher, was known for using humor to draw his listeners to Jesus. It's safe to say the two of them marked me. Whether in my books, speaking before audiences, or dropping a segment on The Story Table podcast I created, I love nothing more than helping hungry hearts feast on Jesus through humor and storytelling. ~Shellie
Shellie Rushing Tomlinson lives in Lake Providence, Louisiana with her husband, Phil. They have two happily married kids, six grandchildren, and one neurotic lab named Hank. There's a story there...

This book was received as an ARC from Tyndale House Publishers - Focus on the Family through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.
Reading this book felt like Sheila and Chrys were my friends passing along this valuable information to my mother. My mother is going through the same experience as Sheila and Chrys and the information presented in Rocking It Grand is very valuable to everyone not just for grandmas. i do not have any children of my own yet, but when I do, I know I am going to buy this book for my mother and mother in law. Their easy to remember R's and the scriptures they chose to convey their message were really meaningful and valuable. Reading this book made me so glad I waited to have children and unlike most couples who rush into having kids, I am going to have all of this information at my fingertips to help me live a balanced live even as a parent. If that was the message Sheila and Chrys were trying to convey, they really succeeded with me. I know a lot more people will benefit from reading this book, and I now know what to get my mother and mother in law for Christmas. Thank you for that!
A book that is so valuable, it belongs in libraries, bookstores, and bookshelves worldwide. This book deserves 5 stars.
What’s not to love about this book that is filled with wonderful ways to encourage your family and practical ideas to get along with not only the grands but with your children as well. I enjoyed the family stories shared, fun children events, and wonderful cookie recipes that were shared in every chapter.
This is a book that has helpful stories, suggestions, recipes in dealing with your grandkids and your children as they set out on their own family journey. I enjoyed reading this book and trying the cookie recipes. It’s a win, win!

Rocking It Grand spoke to my grandma heart, with practical ideas for gently pointing my grandbabies to The One who loves them more than I ever could.
Each of the 18 devotions covers the 4 R's: Remember it, Read on it, Reflect on it, Rock it. Remember it begins the devotion with scripture. Read on it is a personal message from one of the two authors. Reflect on it takes a quote that highlights the message, and Rock it gives an action step to reinforce the message. The action steps are usually fun things that grandparents can do with their grandchildren that show them how much Jesus loves them.
These ladies know their stuff! Between them they have 20 grandchildren (and counting.) They have so many practical suggestions to try, things that they've used with their own grands.
I recommend this to any grandparent who wants to "step up their game" just a bit. Each devotion is an easy read and takes 10 - 15 minutes apiece.
I’m not a Grandma yet. Probably won’t be a few more years until I get that gift! I am doing my research on being the best Grandma ever! This book was a great start to prepping. First off I wonder what my name will be… G’ma? GiGi, Jammie, mimaw, YaYa…. Maybe my kids will keep their nickname for me… BbyLamb (long story) … G’ma Lamb hahahaha??? Oh boy!
The leaving a legacy aspect of this book is the biggest part that I hope to take away. I found so many things that I’ve bookmarked for the future! If you have grandkids or hope to in the future I highly recommend this book.
Oh and the cookie recipes are amazing!!!
I received a complimentary ARC of this book from NetGalley on behalf of the Publisher and was under no obligation to post a favorable review.
This was great book that reminded me to be intentional with our 3 little grandsons. Sometimes we forget the impact we make on others in our family just by our words and how we act around others. This is definitely a book that I would underline and re-read when I need another reminder on how to be around our little ones.
Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review. All opinions are my own.
Rocking It Grand has both good advice and good recipes. My favorite was the snickerdoodles. I'm looking forward to making and sharing that recipe. I recommend this book to every Christian grandma, as well as most other bakers.
Filled with cookie recipes, humor, practical advice & Scripture verses reinforcing how to be an excellent grandma. You’ll enjoy the book and share it with friends & family.
