I am what they created.
I have nothing left to lose.
And now the hunt is on.

Vivi Graves has been hidden away from who she really is until she went poking around and found more than she bargained for. Now there’s a cryptic prophecy looming over her head, an ancient curse nipping at her heels, and a monster in Warlock’s clothing who’s hell-bent on destroying her life.

But at least she’s got her friends, right?

When the past unravels and family secrets turn deadly. An unlikely ally warns that her life is in more danger than ever. But who can she trust? The Dark Prince who broke her heart, the mysterious stranger who terrifies and intrigues her, or the ghost who works for the wickedest witch of them all?

To take down the evil that threatens Thornfall, Vivi must face her past. Embrace her inner monster. And worst of all? Follow her foolish heart.

They say love is a battlefield.
But on this one? Only the strong survive.

Absolutely enjoyed this book more than the first. It still has a few of the same problems, and does a lot of telling instead of showing; however, I am looking forward to the conclusion.

Wow! I loved this one more than the first one! Waiting for the third is going to be absolute torture! The world that Amber has built within these books is amazing and the characters are so likeable. If you are one of those people who are naturally dark, twisty, and abnormal then this book is right up your alley. The language, the sarcasm, the attitude, it's all so beautifully dark yet humourous. I love love love it!

Could this one be better than the first book?!

The twists! The turns! Please hurry with book 3! Spring can't come soon enough. These are some of the best books I've read in a long time.

Please never stop writing!!!

Amber is a magical world creation MASTER who creates characters I want to hang out with and places I long to visit. This book added plenty of twists I did not see coming mixed with laugh out loud dialogue. Vivi is the very best kind of believable kick ass demon from hell, and that’s not an easy task. April is sooo far away but I will be waiting!

Uhhhhh….

Spoilers. Spoilers. Don’t read if you don’t want the spoiler.

So, book one was okay. It was a rough read, but it was bearably decent. In the end, I gave it three stars. I shouldn’t have.

This author did the one thing I absolutely hate. HATE. The MC’s are on the outs at the end of book one. Book two should have seen that resolved. It didn’t. Instead, in the very last chapter we get, “And we’re done. Finished,” when they obviously are not. But stupid, solvable issues get blown up, just so the author can still have relationship issues be front and center in book three. No.

I will read one book about a relationship, maybe two. But three books trying to sort out stupid, juvenile arguments of, “You should have told me.” Well, you’re not stupid. You should have been able to figure it out. I just can’t. All done.

Also, Vivi is supposed to be this bada$$ woman, trained and educated. Rather, she sounds like a teenager forever throwing herself the biggest pity party in the land. I could go on, but I won’t.

Skipping book three, comfortable that the MC’s will get together and I don’t care at all.

A worthy read

If I could describe this book in one word it would be: whiplash. The opening follows the aftermath of the cataclysmic ending of the first book — and can I just say that maybe crazy endings are Amber Darwin’s thing — because whoa.

This book was riddled with action. And tension. And some questionable decisions.

Overall, I like Vivi as a heroine. I enjoy that she can be impulsive and holds her own. I enjoy that she is flawed and has an internal dialogue that is similar to how real people think and feel. However, I think it can also be toned down a little. At this point, it just seems like Amber is continuing to keep her and Killian apart because she stubborn to a fault.

But Killian? Yum. He has made some pretty terrible decisions, and continues to do so throughout the book, but the intent behind those choices show his heart. If Vivi could get over herself for even a fraction of a minute, the book would be all the better for it.

It’s you’re going to write in first person- please do it right. I hate feeling like I’m reading someone’s diary. We’re suppose to be living the story with the character but why is the FMC always talking to us, like Dora the Explorer, creepily staring at us while she ask a question.
I skimmed 80% of the book because the FMC is annoying. This back and forth from love, hate, lust, hate, etc is annoying.
Another issue is that the author give us this dark TW but there’s nothing dark about this. Just because the characters have sailor vulgar mouths and speak of sex over breakfast doesn’t like deserve the TW the authors placed. We wait the entire book for the MC to finally come together and it’s a fade to black scene. WTF?!?! This is nothing more than a normal YA fantasy book.
Not going to read the 3rd book, I’m sure the characters end up together and win the war.

Well okay book 2 said hold my beer and ended up being better than the first! I love ambers writing style. The characters are relatable and hilarious. All the FMCs are witty, downright hilarious, comfortable in their skin and 100% bad assess. This is found family and the willingness to kill for it at its finest. Great job Amber I’m onto the next and will then be in a slump because I’ll be thinking about this series for quite some time.

I'm not a huge fan of the writing style - the inner monologue we get takes me back to being 14 years and definitely made me cringe at times. I also don't usually enjoy sustained toxicity in characters or their relationships. HOWEVER: I couldn't put this book down and am cruising into the third installment.

second book waning

Second book feels like its losing focus Vivi is struggling to find purchase in this book, a little too much retelling what just happened and not enough forward movement.

Absolutely loved. However just wish Killian and Vivi could get over all their issues. The tug and pull is getting old. The story telling is good but sometimes feels like more description being done then setting of the scene if that makes sense. Can't wait to start the 3rd book.

Better than the first

This has some good action in it.

Again ends in a cliff hanger but I expected that as it is a trilogy.

The writing is a bit better.

I love the colorful world Amber imagined for us! Each character has their own uniqueness, and I find myself fascinated by all of them. I love the fact that they're all so different from one another, yet they all still connect on a soul level. I'd love to read a little bit more about their side stories throughout the books. The way Amber write about all of the characters makes me root for each and every one of them, no matter how big or small their roles are in the story.

When she go into describing the surroundings through the characters' eyes, I find myself getting caught up in it for a brief moment. I'm able to see everything so clearly, but then it feels like it is taken back too quickly. Because their surroundings do evoke such strong emotions in themselves, I find myself wanting a bit more. Two places that I loved reading about the most from her descriptions were The Temple of Dusk in chapter one and the Enchanted Brew in book one. I found myself yearning to go to the Temple of Dusk in real life just to be able to 'feel' it and honor the "desolate beauty" that was described. And the Enchanted Brew felt like home, quirky and charming and safe and mischievous, all rolled into one quaint and adorable little place.

As for my biggest bit of constructive criticism, it is about Vivi herself. She is this strong, beautiful, haunted ball of sass and spunk and rebellion, just chock-full of personality and fire. But, I find myself getting distracted by her one-liners and catch phrases and feel like they start to take over the story in a few areas. Her feelings about Killian can also get a bit confusing. I know this is a YA novel, and being 39 definitely puts me in a different mindset, but I feel like she doesn't make sense sometimes when it comes to her problems with Killian. Her problems can be somewhat small here and there when I'd much rather read more about significant and impassioned reasons for such strong feelings and fighting. With that being said, their natural chemistry is off the charts hot when they do let their guards down with each other. We're all dying for them to work it out in the end so they can go on to have the hottest, most breathtaking, formidable, dark love story any of us have ever seen.

Constructive criticism aside, Amber has such a natural talent!! What she's done in these first two books shows exactly that! Her imagination and storyline are so much fun and so interesting, weaving a colorful story that we can't help but want more of. I can't wait to see them all kick ass in book three while continuing to steal our hearts as the biggest, most eccentric, and fascinating 'family' in the Netherworld! And (hopefully) getting to see them all get their darkest of happily ever afters.
