The Abolition of Sex: How the “Transgender” Agenda Harms Women and Girls

Rate this book
Most Americans do not understand the real threat that the "transgender" agenda, or the so-called "gender identity" movement, poses to all of us —especially women and girls — nor do they understand the extent to which it is taking over U.S. law and civil society. The simple truth is that "gender identity" functions to abolish sex, and all of our civic institutions — government, media, academia, and business — have been completely captured by it.

We have been told that "transgender" is a word to describe a marginalized group of people who are in need of civil rights protection; it is not. Instead, it is an incoherent word that is being used to advance a much broader agenda. There are many people — including people on the political left — who understand the threat that enshrining “gender identity” in law and society poses, but they are silenced when they try to speak out.

This book shines a light on the truth about "gender identity," the "transgender" agenda, the very real threats that they pose to all of society — specifically to the rights, privacy, and safety of women and girls — and what the global Women’s Human Rights Campaign is doing to fight back.

If someone had tried to sell Americans the idea that sex isn’t real by quoting some harebrained scheme cooked up by a handful of off-the-wall academics, it never would have succeeded. Everyone, after all, knows how babies are made. In order to accomplish the goal of persuading Americans to go along with the pretence that sex doesn’t exist, we needed a new word. That magic word is “transgender.” [p105]

That one little word has accomplished so much more than the queer theorists ever would have been able to accomplish, sitting in their ivory towers and preaching to the converted about "queering the binary." [p107]

The first difficulty we all face in addressing this topic is that the idea of abolishing sex is too bizarre and incredible to be seriously considered. This book does an excellent job of listing the evidence of this taking place before our eyes, primarily with reference to the Biden administration’s energetic abuse of Executive Orders and the consistent failure of the US courts to rule in favour of women and girls. This is probably the main achievement of the book.

A second difficulty is accepting the harmful consequences of these changes. The book is far too succinct and brief in listing the damage to women and girls, the absolute betrayal of their hard won rights and freedoms and the protection given to those men who intend only harm. However, it avoids the real risk of overwhelming the reader so maybe this is a price worth paying.

Another difficult is that it is very difficult to get a public conversation going about this. The book describes the many ways by which all public debate and information is suppressed. It also laments the tendency to associate any challenge to transgenderism with the Republican right, despite most serious feminists being to the left politically. Hopefully this succinct, well written and punchy book will contribute to provoke a change. It is ideal for people new to the debate because of its brevity, its clarity and its sanity.

A fourth difficulty is providing a credible explanation of the reason why this is happening. Dansky largely relies on references to Janice Raymond’s classic “The Transsexual Empire.” She also briefly introduce readers to Jon Styker and his Arcus foundation, and to the weird “transhuman” obsessions of Martine Rothblatt. Her point is not to make sense of the transgender movement but to observe that it does not make sense.

Quotes

Most of us have been taught that the fight for so-called “transgender rights” is a bottom up grassroots movement to protect a vulnerable sexual minority. It is not. It is a top-down, corporate-driven enterprise designed to sell products and to maximise profits, being fuelled by a small handful of extremely wealthy men whose very objective is to make us all forget that biological sex, not “gender identity,” is grounded in material reality. [p109]

Sexual objectification of women is not about sex – it is about treating women like mere bodies to be used for male gratification. This kind of objectification lies at the heart of “gender identity” as well. This is true whether we are talking about men who claim to be women, women who claim to be men, or anyone who claims to be “non-binary.” [p111]

Sexual objectification is not new and feminists have been fighting it for centuries. What is relatively new is the evolution of the view that women exist solely for sexual and reproductive purposes into the notion that “woman” isn’t a meaningful category of human beings at all, but rather a concept – a figment of a man’s imagination. If anyone can be a woman, then no one is a woman, and if a man can claim to exist as a woman by simply announcing that he is one, that is a complete mockery of womanhood. The very concept of the “transgender woman” is the ultimate expression of the denial of women’s humanity. [p118]

Concise and clear, this short book explains the profound homophobia and misogyny of the gender identity movement and how its enshrinement into law is stripping women and girls of our sex-based rights.

This slim volume (yes, it's political) is the voice of a traditional, grounded feminist--a voice not heard for a while--making a very compelling argument about separating the "T" from LGBQ etc. because "transgender" as written into women's sports and gender equality laws in effect equals the abolition of "women" (you know, 52% of the population) as a category of human.

Dansky explains a particular slice of this issue--that of adult (over-18) men claiming a female gender identity and then taking the prizes and benefits (most especially in the still-young area of women's sports) associated with and for women. She views these takings as a particularly egregious form of misogyny.

Much credit to Dansky for an unflinchingly honest, fresh perspective from a very liberal feminist on the biological and legal definitions of sex vs. gender identity. Well worth a read by all women.

If you lack critical thinking, and merely want your biases/prejudices confirmed, then this is the book for you ("as seen on Tucker Carlson Tonight" - need I say more?). It lacks the objectivity that any decent non-fiction book should have in order to be taken even half seriously. I thought I might learn something from it. Unfortunately, all I took away from this was that the author genuinely believes that acknowledging rights for transgender people presents an existential threat to women. As a screed, it is no less objectionable than an anti-muslim or anti-Semitic polemic. The evidence is against it. In countries and states where trans rights are acknowledged they have not eroded the status of women any more than the acknowledgement of gay rights affected 'family values' decades ago. And, in my view, the book is poorly written - reason enough alone to think twice before parting with your cash.

The title is one of the most profound as it is exactly what is happening. Male and Female are being dumped as fluid labels that anyone can choose, without acknowledging "the science" of biology. If we are to trust the science, we should do so for everything, even this subject that should not even be contentious. Because of this very undeniable fact, Kara Dansky has been attacked by emotionally damaged young people corrupted by psychiatry and peer pressure for her no-nonsense approach in with this very informative book. It is one of the most cautionary and every parent should read it.
Kara Dansky is not some kind of hysterical "tin foil hat" wearing "right-winger." She is a feminist democrat who predicted the transgender labeling craze and she was ridiculed. Just the term itself has been twisted into including anyone who just claims to be another gender without any kind of surgery. This nonsensical concept of "gender identity" that has nothing to do with actually transforming, has been very disastrous for girls, practically eliminating the long oppressed and sidelined females by definition. We have struggled too hard to be diffused and have men just pretend to be women just to compete and outdo for their own benefit. Most of it is happening after a series of orders by the new presidential administration and the new congress that removes the definition of "gender."

This is the most articulate, clear and common sense read for understanding the politics of trans ideology and its negative impacts on women's rights. A MUST read and my highest recommendation.

"Everyone, after all, knows how babies are made. In order to accomplish the goal of persuading Americans to go along with the pretense that sex doesn't exist, we needed a new word. That magic word is "transgender." " - p. 105

I've given 'The Abolition of Sex: How the "Transgender" Agenda Harms Women and Girls' five stars because it covers all areas of concern without going into depths of detail, areas of detail which can be investigated more fully elsewhere. But this slim, easy to read volume, which I read in less than 24 hours, helps to draw all areas of concern together in a clear fashion (with examples), and demonstrates the logic of how the abolition of sex would play out in law and in our lives. Maintaining clarity about our human mammalian sex is important for reasons that one would think obvious in the 21st century, but humans have a weakness (it would seem...eye roll) for ideology, especially ideology that helps protect us from being vilified or physically harmed, by individuals or by the state. But we are also capable of so much more. We're here speaking about half of the human species, at this moment of writing comprising 3,934,783,287 females - girls and women. Importantly, Dansky also points out the big money behind the gender identity ideology agenda. The patriarchy has come up with a new system to try to stop its own demise in the face of the rise of challenges to its core ideals and institutions, a system described by Jo Brew as the "new operating system (OS)...TG7.2" (p. 116). Whom does it all serve? Why, men, and male-dominated institutions of power of course. Because men would still know who to use and commodify for sex and reproduction.

'The Abolition of Sex' is an important read. I find it quite incredible that it has had to be written. Actually, it's disturbing.

Defining Female: I thought it was a given.

I read this book to understand the confusing definitions that are being tossed about in an area that I thought had been clear cut for millions of years. It was refreshing to see some sanity and logic injected into the arguments on this topic—although I know she (the author) is and will continue to be savaged for stating the obvious—and “following the science.” As it turns out, the “science” only applies to certain topics—not others. In others, we must be forced to engage in a fantasy that black is white and up is down—and if we do not accept it, then we are not only out of touch—we are to be despised, hated, ostracized, criticized and demonized. You can go ahead and count me in.

This was a very interesting book showing the problems within the university systems that are pandering to the abundance of “snowflakes” who are the up-n-comers of our society. These “children” will be the leaders of this country, one day, and with the demands they place upon the university leadership will more than likely be the generation that Ronald Regan warned us of. The university system is suppose to train these children up to think critically, while all the time they have just been indoctrinated. It is a sad outlook for the future of this country, if things are not changed!

As a feminist and as a supporter of Kara’s work, it makes me sad to have to give this book such a low rating, but as a couple other radfem associates put it to me: she seemed to be trying to reach a word count, and, this book could have been an email. To me, it read like a very middling radfem blog post circa 2011 before a lot of this gender identity claptrap really spun out of control in the mainstream. There were a lot of recycled phrases and talking points that have circulated in the radical feminist community for many years throughout the whole book. This gave the effect of sever obfuscation of the aim of this writing. I questioned until the last page who the audience was for this book. Surely not seasoned radical feminists—we know all this stuff and have unfortunately absorbed all of it through osmosis even when we’re not seeking it out. So then who? It is not an accessible read for garden variety liberals or conservatives. It is written under the assumption that the reader already has some background knowledge on the topic, but again, those of us who are acquainted with the topic did not receive any further enlightenment through this very short yet very padded volume. There is no real explanation as to what “gender identity” actually is for the reader coming into this blind; you just have to be convinced through Kara’s undergrad level persuasive essay style of writing that it is Bad (it is). There are several secondary sources cited—it’s easier to quote someone else who has sloughed through Judith Butler than it is to read Judith Butler yourself.

So, I’m disappointed. I don’t even know who I would recommend this book to. I would not recommend it to feminists. I would not recommend it to regular people as a primer on the issue; you’re better off reading Irreversible Damage by Abigail Schrier or Trans by Helen Joyce—both well researched and written by women for whom writing is a craft and a profession.

Kara tried, which is why I have to give this book two stars. She is an excellent speaker, organizer and advocate at the highest level for the safety and dignity of women and girls. No one else in the current fight against gender ideology has her special expertise or knowledge or ability to get Tucker Carlson on the right side of history. For that, I am truly grateful to Kara. We should be paying attention to Kara and heeding her words as they are spoken aloud. We just didn’t need this book.

This book by writer and attorney Kara Dansky should be required reading in the nation’s universities in place of the neo-religious poppycock called “gender ideology”–which has no base in reality–that is being unconstitutionally (it is a religion–The Church of Trans) forced on our kids from K through PhD.

This is my own definition of “trans”: Trans’ is a deluxe class citizenship that entitles you to unlimited taxpayer-funded cosmetic surgery, to force neologisms on lesser class citizens and to have them punished for insults, real or imagined, to your hallowed trans feelings.

Add “trans” to anything, and any and all sorts of brutality and idiocy become acceptable. Dansky writes: “The magic word is ‘transgender’...this word has no coherent meaning whatsoever. The word ‘transgender’ is simply a linguistic sleight of hand whose purpose is to persuade everyone that sex does not exist...a person can ‘be transgender’ simply by announcing that one ‘is transgender.’ If ‘transgender’ means everything, it means nothing.”

I read the book over Christmas in one sitting, much like Helen Joyce’s book, “Trans: When Ideology Meets Reality,” which made me realize that what’s at stake in this war is nothing less than the fate of civilization. Dansky clearly lays out the “Transgender” Delusion and explains how it is being enshrined in law, the consequences for women and girls; the “abolition of sex in media and discourse” and discusses the forces at work behind the “Gender Identity Industry.”

The book begins by asking the question that no Democratic/Labour politicians seem to be able, much less willing, to answer: “What is a woman?” Since actions speak louder than words, we know that they believe(or pretend to believe) that anyone who says they are a woman is a woman. “Can men be ‘trans women?’ Can men be any kind of women? What do we mean by the word ‘woman’... A “woman is an “adult female person”... an ‘adult female human.’ Can “a ‘child’ be any person who identifies as a child? Of course not. We know that this cannot be the case.” But we are supposed to believe it’s acceptable that anyone can identify and purchase their way into a sexual identity–being a woman–and that it’s “hateful” to point out the insanity of such a ludicrous idea.

All of this appears to most people to be plain on its face. Yet in today’s society, one can face consequences for simply pointing it out.” [you can be fired from your job if you refuse to participate in the lunacy party]... “Trans ideologists have created a terrorist culture” in which anyone who breathes a word against or questions this ideological poppycock is labeled a hateful, nazi-loving bigot.

“Everyone in society is expected to go along with this fiction...Here is the truth we cannot speak: ‘gender identity’ does not exist in any real, material sense, and ‘transgender’ is simply a made-up concept that is used to justify all kinds of atrocities. It is, in effect, a men’s rights movement intended to objectify women’s bodies and erase us as a class. It is left-wing misogyny on steroids.”

“First, as a feminist,” Dansky writes, “I care about the rights, privacy, and safety of women and girls, and allowing men and boys to invade female-only spaces is dangerous and profoundly misogynistic. Second, as a human being, I want public policy to be grounded in material reality and science. Enshrining vague concepts like “transgender” and “gender identity” in law and policy threatens both of those interests.”

The Legal Abolition of Sex: Dansky presents us with a chilling fact about state of affairs in western societies (although the rest of the world is also being captured by the Church of Trans): “Sex is being abolished as a legal, social and physical category of human beings...Our entire society needs to ask why we are doing this.” However, it’s hard to do that, to have a discussion (it is heresy, blasphemy) about an issue when the TransInquisition can have you (the heretic) punished with the loss of your livelihood for bringing it up. Which is exactly the intention of the Trans Church, to scare everyone into silence.

“The entire English language is being manipulated and twisted in order to obscure the reality of sex. Why are we using terminology that we do not understand and with which we do not agree?.. Gender refers to a person’s social identity while sex refers to biological characteristics.” Gender ideology maintains there is a “sexed soul” (Helen Joyce) that is the “true person” (despite the fact that Trans Church members frequently “reidentify” into their “assigned-at-birth”–as if there is a gender-sorting-hat-wearing doctor in the delivery room–sex when they realize the whole thing is a scam or when men, who “identified as women” have reaped whatever benefits they can from the charade, whether it is stealing money, medals, and awards from women or sitting out their time in a women’s prison).

One of the most horrifying examples of the severity of this Mad Cow Disease (Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease in humans–a degenerative disorder that destroys the brain) sibling, is the guy on UofPenn’s women's swimming team, who calls himself Lia Thomas. Here is a man (of the penised variety), a MALE who swings his dick in the women’s locker room (in blatant violation of Pennsylvania’s criminal code and the University’s sexual violence policies) and sweeps up all medals and awards, because he is allowed to compete as a WOMAN on the WOMEN’s swimming team, despite being a MAN! Mad Cow Disease really sounds like a bad case of the flu in comparison with this utter insanity. “What can we do about the issue of transgender athletes in women’s sports?...What do you mean by ‘transgender athletes’?” Why don’t you just say ‘men and boys’ if that’s what you mean? [pauses] I didn’t think that we were allowed to say that.”

“Our entire society needs to ask why we are doing this. Why are we using terminology that we do not understand and with which we do not agree?

“Why are all three branches of the U.S. government abolishing sex in the law?
Why are the media—which includes many smart and powerful women—misleading and gaslighting us?

“An invisible industry exists that is driving this entire [“trans”] apparatus. It’s big business. It is a top-down, corporate-driven enterprise designed to sell products and to maximize profits, being fueled by a small handful of extremely wealthy men whose very objective is to make us all forget that biological sex, not ‘gender identity,’ is grounded in material reality.” It seeks “to obliterate human life as we know it.” The “purpose is to profit off of society’s burgeoning insistence on hammering home to all of us the ludicrous idea that there is some category of people for whom sex is irrelevant. If there is no such thing as sex, how can the law protect same-sex attraction?”

Buy this book. Read it. Pass it on.

I said this before I suffered through the 142 pages of pure misogyny and hatred, and I'll say it again: Gender critical feminists are the most pretentious and obnoxious demographic in the United States. Every point she made is so easily refuted with actual data that isn't cherry picked to fit her narrative

The victim complex in this book is ridiculous. She whines on about how transgender identities as a threat to women and girls: How trans women are stripping away the rights of women. However, the trans rights movement has never been about undermining the experiences of cisgender women; it is about acknowledging and respecting the rights of all people. Period. Even if you do not believe they exist, (which Dansky doesn't) trans women experience oppression under patriarchy. You can not be against the patriarchy (which Dansky is) and still defend patriarchal stances.

Objectively, this wasn't a good non-fiction books- even for TERFS. The central premise of the book was already well-established in public discourse. Dansky presented little to no new insights on the matter. Instead, she merely rehashed common arguments without offering any substantial evidence or fresh perspectives. And God is it overwritten. Every point was stretched thin and diluted in a sea of unnecessary elaboration A well-researched and thought-provoking book should challenge its readers to critically engage with its content, but it never considers opposing viewpoints or potential counterarguments in a meaningful way. The whole book came across as biased and unwilling to engage in constructive discourse.

300,000 underage girls were married from 2000 and 2018. Abortion and contraception rights are being stripped away constantly. 1 out of every 6 American women are sexually assaulted. Federal prosecutors refuse to charge men who rape indigenous women. Black women are killed at the highest rate of any ethnic group. And yet, she thinks the biggest threat to women are trans people. This badly written book is actively aiding the oppression of women and profiting from it.

This is the most powerful, and the most important book to tackle the legal side of this debate.

This book made me cry and it made me angry. But, it also opened my eyes to the erosion of women in language and law.

The story in this book is bigger than the abortion debate and for that, it could be the final nail into the coffin of the handmaid if this is not stopped.

People must put aside their political sides and really take this situation seriously, before it is to late.

Me reading this book started with an argument with a fellow feminist, lesbian friend. My state has been imposing some terrible legislation on some very marginalized people. Just in my own very introverted life I have family, friends, and colleagues who are trans and I am very aware of the privilege and ease of my cis hetero life.
My above friend, has a very anti-trans rights stance. I was surprised and upset and suggested a book she might read.
She countered with this one so I read it.
It's short, it's transphobic to the extreme of denying not only their human rights but also their very existence. The author made a couple of points worth exploring if you could dig through all the prejudiced crap. Interestingly, she makes zero mention of trans men (assigned F at birth). I cannot recommend such awful stuff but the concern expressed is that women and girls will lose all rights as a protected class if "anyone can join said class just by saying so." (paraphrasing)

Would a horse say they are a pig?

This book is one of the best I have read in totally explaining the truth behind the gender identity agenda. Very few people are this knowledgeable or passionate about stopping this abomination before it is too late. I chose this book, because I am a 70 year old woman having to deal with a very young man who no longer identifies as a male. He is now allowed to use our locker room/restrooms. I spoke to HR and was told there was nothing they could do (in Oregon) he has all the rights. If that was not bad enough, it is a Catholic retirement. The company offered ME counseling....watching the documentary WHAT IS A WOMAN, might solidify your thoughts on this topic as well.

This book reads like a horror story. The hits just keep on coming. Over and over Dansky lists the ways women and girls are losing their rights to men who believe themselves to be women, or more usually 'girls'.
This book is fact based and well written from a feminist perspective. I personally found it deeply depressing and am happy to say I am not an American and I do not live in America, where the transgender ideology has stolen a march on all logic and reality.
I'd recommend this book if you know little of what women are facing, especially in America. This book makes it clear that women's sex based rights are being dismantled and we need to fight back or women will become a subset of their own sex class.

This book delivers the information on exactly what it says in the title. In it the author examines aspects of the trans rights movement and provides a valid argument for how these aspects are harmful for women and girls, backed up by legal cases and real life examples particularly in regards to the US. It is a quick and informative read for anyone who is finding themselves on the gender critical side of the fence in regards to gender ideology.

Compelling and necessary reading on the erosion of women's sex-based rights

An excellent brief overview of the key issues at stake in the battle to preserve biological sex as a legally protected category. While gender ideology sweeps North America and Europe virtually unchallenged, the sex-based rights of women and girls are being eroded with catastrophic outcomes. Soon women will be completely erased as a biological category. Dansky outlines how we are already losing female-only spaces, sports, prisons, shelters, programs, services, awards and more. Kara Dansky ends her excellent overview with a call to action. Readers who found Trans, by Helen Joyce, interesting, will also appreciate the Dansky book. I understand she has another book underway, which I look forward to. For more insights into how gender ideology is harming thousands of girls, see Irreversible Damage by Abigail Shrier.

A compact and very useful resource about the fallacious nature of 'gender identity' and how modifying legislation to include it as a protected characteristic effectively negates sex as its own protected characteristic, because the definition of 'gender identity' entails that a person's sex be disregarded. A clear case is made for the dangerous implications of these legislative changes and how they would disproportionately affect women and girls.

It was very refreshing to read something that treats the subject so honestly to really get to the heart of the matter.

This book taught me an important lesson: language is crucial for forming people's awareness (negatively, delusion).
I didn't grow up in the culture where most of people think about or even care about gender ideology and “transgender” (ofc there are still sexist stereotypes about women), so this book gave me some basic information about what's going on.
The second lesson this book taught me is where there is society, there is censorship and mouth-covering, even in the countries where I consider have more freedom.

The author makes excellent points backed up by easily referenced documentation of laws, cases and legal decisions. And these are most definitely a threat to the rights of women and girls. First the author establishes that there are only two sexes. These are established by the chromosomes a fetus inherits at the time of fertilization. The effect of these chromosomes govern growth and development in utero as well as throughout the remainder of life - the density of bones and their skeletal arrangement, as well as muscle mass and strength, and secondary sex characteristics, which cannot be fully eradicated by drugs or surgery. In the quest to make sex undifferentiated, our laws erase protections women have fought hard to obtain. In addition to housing biological males with females in prisons and shelters, this would ignore the total skewing of medical and safety studies that we are starting to realize have different effects on the different sexes. Medical studies for years, thought that "one size fits all" in clinical trials as they limited participants to males. A most prominent example is the difference in warning signs of a heart attack in males and females. Consumer Reports in the last few years has reported on safety results (seatbelt, airbag and interior car design) that dealt exclusively with the adult male body and are not reproducible on the female body.

This is not an anti-trans book. It highlights the challenges we have in respecting everyone's right to their own "identity" while not eradicating the protections women have fought for.

Read this book.
