Five heart-stopping books with football heroes, swoony rock stars, and tortured artists who might just work their way into your soul.
It all started with kids at a lake. And when loss hit, they all had to learn to live again... To find joy... To find redemption... To find love...
MY LIFE AS A COUNTRY ALBUM ― a boy-next-door, coming-of-age romance. Tomboy Cam's diary-style coming-of-age story about growing up loving the football god next door. She vowed to love him forever. But when fate comes calling, will she ever find a heart to call home? Warning: Tears may fall.
MY LIFE AS A POP ALBUM ― a road-trip, rock-star romance. Bookworm Mia is trying to put behind years of guilt when soulful musician, Derek Waters, strolls into her life and turns it upside down. Once he's seen her, Derek can't walk away unless Mia comes with him. But what will happen when their short time together comes to an end?
MY LIFE AS A ROCK ALBUM ― a second-chance, antihero romance. Recovering addict, Seth Carmen, is a trash artist who knows he's better off alone. But when he finds and loses the love of his life, he can't help sending her a series of love letters to try and win her back. Will Seth prove to PJ they can make broken beautiful?
MY LIFE AS A MIXTAPE ― a single-dad, rock star romance. Lonnie's always seen relationships as a burden instead of a gift and having to pick up the pieces his sister leaves behind is just one of the reasons. When Wynn enters his life just as her world is disintegrating, their mixed-up pasts give way to new beginnings neither of them saw coming.
THIS LIFE WITH CAM ― a box set exclusive novella. Written as a response to Cam's story in Country Album, Blake shares what it was like growing up in the shadow of Cam's first love. Discover the exact moment he fell for the tiny football referee with her lopsided braids and popsicle-stained lips.
This award-winning series from LJ Evans should come with a warning label: Do NOT read unless you are prepared to invest your heart and soul. It's about finding yourself and your path on this wild ride called life while overcoming loss, heartbreaks, and illness. It's about family and hope and love. Each book can be read as a STANDALONE novel but comes with spoilers for the first book in the series.
Award-winning author LJ Evans lives in Northern California with her husband, child, and the three terrors called cats. She's written compulsively since she was a little girl, often getting derailed from what she should be doing by a song lyric that sends her scrambling to jot a scene down.
A former first-grade teacher, she now spends her days deep in the pages of romance and mystery with a bit of the otherworldly thrown in. Her favorite characters are those who live resiliently—stubbornly and triumphantly getting through this wild ride called life with hope, love, and found families guiding the way.
Her novels have won multiple industry awards, including CHARMING AND THE CHERRY BLOSSOM which was Writer’s Digest’s Self-Published E-book Romance of the Year.
I’m only rating and reviewing My Life with Cam, the short story at the end of the boxset. All the other books in this series have their own review.
This story is a mix of an epilogue of Cam’s book from her husband’s point of view. I enjoyed it, but it was more of a recap of their story with some of his moments thrown in. I would have loved more of a future epilogue.
Overall, I’ve loved this series so much and highly recommend it!

and I can’t rate My Life With Cam. I always struggle with short novellas, so I just won’t rate it. But just know that once again I shed a few tears. I highly recommend this series. One of my favorite reads this year so far.
My Life as a Country Album. I can see why this won an award, it is so well-written and captivating I couldn’t do anything but continue. Camdyn Swayne was a spitfire and gorgeous soul. Her story is a testament to love and resilience. I was caught up in the beauty of it and all the love, family and friendship.
My Life as a Pop Album. With catchy chapter titles and smooth lyrics we meet Mia Phillips and Derek Waters who would seem to be complete opposites. Again, lost in the storytelling, I turned pages quickly wanting to learn more about them and become a part of the scene.
My Life as a Rock Album. It takes on a slightly different and unique set up for the delivery of the story - love letters written by Seth Carmen. Those letters are the insight to the building and breakdown of a beautiful man and romance. Those letters ran the gamut of emotions. And then following each letter, PJ gives voice to her feelings and emotions regarding the intimate details of Seth and their relationship.
My Life as a Mixtape. It starts with a wedding. I won’t tell you whose wedding because you really need to start from the beginning of the series. But I will tell you that I was putting this last book off because it’s the end of the series and I just didn’t want it to be over. I couldn’t resist though. These stories just pull you in.
My Life with Cam. If you’ve read this series, and I must say you absolutely should, then you’ll know who this is about. Just in case, I won’t say who, but I will say that this is icing on the cake of a series that will make you swoon, break your heart and piece it back together.
As a whole, this entire series is a beautifully written love story. It touched my heart. It’s definitely a series that should be read.
This series is about life and love and loss and healing and hope and love. Yes I said love twice and you may wonder why....because in this life we sometimes have more than that 1 great love....sometimes we get another chance at true love. This Life with Cam is a bonus novella in the book set and believe me you need Blake’s story. He’s truly the best of the best hero’s out there in the book world. I’m totally #TeamBlake. LJ Evans writing is magic...I get lost in her words and in the imagery she creates. She has the ability to draw me in and takes me on a journey with these characters who I feel like I know as family. She truly amazes me with the talent she possesses and I can promise you she delivers HEA’s like no other. She is a 1-click author for me and I have no doubt that she will be for you also.
Tonight I was given a gift- an early look at the Novella that completes this saga. Well, completes it for now, because life goes on, and generations grow.
I fell in love with all of the major players nearly immediately- but Blake was special (even more special than Jake...read it, you’ll understand!), so having this little bit from him was truly a gift.
L.J. Evans was a new to me author when I was given an ARC of her My Life as an Album Series Box Set. Might as well go all in, right? Each book has different main characters, but the same recurring characters are intertwined throughout the series. A story about childhood love and it's evolution through the years, devastating loss and moving on, My Life as a Country Album moved me to tears but had the perfect ending. This one also rekindled my love for Taylor Swift music. My Life as a Pop Album brings you a good girl who seems to be lost in someone else's shadow until she finally steps out from behind it and the grief that's hiding there and into a life of her own. You'll find lighthearted humor sprinkled throughout this one. My Life as a Rock Album brings you main characters you might not have expected - I didn't- detailing what happens when 2 people with rocky pasts collide into a tumultuous relationship. There's a small side of suspense in this one, too. The series wraps up with My Life as a Mixtape and a male lead that stole my heart. Navigating unexpected life changes brings the realization that sometimes you don't know what you want until it's right there staring you in the face and even then it takes a minute to figure that out. Each individual book gives you an HEA while pulling on your heartstrings, taking you on an emotional rollercoaster that will leave you smiling.
PS- there's a box set exclusive, My Life With Cam, in here, too! A follow up to My Life as a Country Album, this one is told from His POV where he expresses his understanding of Cam's first love and gives you a an in depth look at His love for Cam.
If I could give this more than 5 stars, I definitely would. I'm one of the lucky readers that still needs to read the third and fourth book in this series. They're just waiting to be read. Part of me wants to dive right in, but I'm going to take my time and enjoy every minute.
I have read the first two books and this author really hit me in all the feels. I've laughed, cried, gotten angry and swooned right along with these characters I've come to love. When LJ announced this box set with the short story: This Life with Cam, I knew I needed it immediately.
Unfortunately, we didn't get a whole book (that I would've easily read and loved), but this book to Cam was just everything and more. I know everyone thinks My Life as a Pop Album is all about Jake. Yes, don't get me wrong, he is amazing, but I think it belongs even more to Blake. He may not have been the first choice, but was definitely the best choice.
It was amazing to read his POV during such an important moment in their lives and these letters that he wrote hit me in all the feels. I never expected a novella to make me cry. While this was too short, because I love Blake, it was also perfect. I already know this is a series I will revisit often!
An absolute mess!! That's what I've been reduced to once again by the most marvelous Ms. Evans!! This boxed set edition has so much happening!! So many beautiful words are housed within these novels that they'll work their way pretty deeply into you heart. These characters are truly unforgettable!! Then there is This Life with Cam... so so so well written and it's a glorious gift to get into those places of Blake's perspective and heart. He's such a special guy and you can't help but awe over him. This set is just superb and a must read!! You have to meet Cam and Jake which start this whole journey of love, loss and finding yourself again. Those three elements are entwined so lovingly in each story. This ah-mazing lady is quite a gifted writer who takes your heart and refuses to give it back!! I absolutely love this boxed set!!
A wonderful box-set from author LJ Evans. It's the awesome original four books in the My Life As An Album Series, with the introduction of a surprise fifth book! The fifth book is another awesome, sweet and poignant book that definitely makes you feel good!
My Life As A Country Album by LJ Evans is a novel inspired by Taylor Swift songs about love and loss and learning to live again. This is the first book in the My Life As An Album series that I listened to on audio narrated by Sarah Puckett. I absolutely love LJ’s books! She does an amazing job pulling you into a story. I was hooked from the very beginning. The book took me on an emotional roller coaster that had me in tears a few times. Sarah is an amazing narrator. She really knows how to bring a story to life. I felt every emotion that Cam was going through. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves contemporary romances or friends-to-lovers romance.
My Life As A Pop Album by LJ Evans is a novel inspired by Ed Sheeran love songs about forgiveness, love, and healing. This is book two in the My Life As An Album Series that I listened to on audio narrated by Sarah Puckett. I did not read book one and feel that you can read them as standalone books. This is the first book I have read by LJ Evans and it definitely won’t be my last. Sarah did an amazing job narrating. I loved the different voices she used for the characters. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a sweet romance.
My Life As A Rock Album by LJ Evans is a novel inspired by Bon Jovi songs that shows how love and acceptance can heal even the toughest scars. This is the third book in the My Life As An Album series that can be read as a standalone. I listened to the book on audio narrated by Sarah Puckett and Neill Thorne. This is the second book of LJ’s that I have read and it definitely won’t be my last. She does an amazing job pulling you into the story. You can’t help but root for Seth and PJ. This story was absolutely amazing. Sarah and Neill did an amazing job on the narration. I could feel all the emotions that Seth and PJ were going through.
My Life As A Mixtape by LJ Evans is a novel inspired by Chris Janson’s “Drunk Girl” that I listened to on audio narrated by Sarah Puckett and Michael Norman Johnson. This is the fourth book in the My Life As An Album Series and can be read as standalone. I absolutely love LJ’s books! She does an amazing job pulling you into the storyline. Her books always take me on an emotional roller coaster that I never want to get off. I loved the relationship that bloomed between Lonnie and Wynn. I also had a copy of the eBook and loved the series epilogue at the end. It was a great way to wrap up the series. The epilogue had me in tears. I will definitely miss these characters! Sarah and Michael did an amazing job on the narration! They both really know how to bring a story to life. I can’t wait to listen to more of their work in the future. The entire series is absolutely amazing and is a must read! I think LJ say’s it best with her warning for the box set: “Do not listen unless you are prepared to invest your heart and soul. It's about finding yourself and your path in this crazy life while overcoming loss, heartbreaks, and illness.”
My Life With Cam by LJ Evans is a exclusive novella in the My Life As An Album series that is Blake’s side of the story from the book My Life As A Country Album. I listened to the book on audio narrated by Michael Norman Johnson. LJ did an amazing job on this novella! I loved getting Blake’s point of view of growing up in the shadow of Cam’s first love. I also enjoyed that it gave you a little more of Blake and Cam’s story down the road. Michael did a great job on the narration. I loved that he used different tones/voices for each character. It really brought the story to life. If you loved My Life As A Country Album I would highly recommend getting the box set so you can read this novella!
Each book in this series, and the extra content made for compelling listening. While the books are very different, they are all linked and I think that they are enjoyed better if read in the right order. The characters build as the series progresses. (Some of them from childhood) and seeing characters go on such a journey made this a truly special series.
The narration through the series was so impressive with each character having their voice and, personality . They were a stunning complement for the whole series. 🎧 Audiobook Obsession Reviewer. 🎧
How to explain my feelings for this series?............on a scale of 1-5? I’d give it 100 🌟🌟🌟 if I could!! It took me on an emotional rollercoaster. I had highs and lows, laughter, tears, rejoicing, cringing, love and disgust. Honestly, this series completely destroyed me and I ABSOLUTELY LOVED every minute of it. This series is hands down my top series of 2020...hell, of ALL TIME!! There aren’t enough adjectives to properly describe this phenomenal series! The bonus book “This Life with Cam” as told by Blake was fantastic!! I LOVED getting a glimpse into Blake’s world with Cam. I highly recommend reading this series as well as all books by LJ Evans. I voluntary reviewed an advanced copy this box set.
Title: My Life as an Album Series Author: L.J. Evans Format: Audio Narrator: Sarah Puckett, Neill Thorne, Michael Norman Johson Genre: Romance, Southern, Small Town Standalone: Yes Part of a Series: Books 1 to 4 of My Life as an Album, plus a novella that is a companion to book 1 Steam Level: Steamy but not explicit, fade to black 5/5
I've never read L.J Evans before and I'm really glad I requested up this boxset which includes books one through four of My Life an an Album and a novella that doesn't appear to be available anywhere else. This boxset is only missing Book 5 My Life as a Christmas Album which looks to be the kids of the characters in these books. I'd love to read this one book too in the future. My Life as an Album is a phenomenal read. It went places I never expected but loved. Each book is unique but all build on each other and the events that happened in the first book. Each book is an emotional journey. Have plenty of tissues nearby because you will ugly cry. You'll also laugh and swoon. L.J Evans puts you through the emotional ringer in this amazing journey of love, loss, and moving forward with the help of friends and family who are your strength when you're weak and who can also rely on you, through the good and the bad. L.J. Evans doesn't shy away from the tough topics including death, addiction (many different types of addiction), guilt and violence. While not graphic, these books show the ugly aspects of each while presenting a happy future, even when life looks the bleakest. I haven't read such an emotional journey in a while and, while it's not always my favorite, this set is amazing.
My reviews for each individual book are below: Book 1: My Life as a Country Album Narrator: Sarah Puckett Genre: YA/NA, Neighbors, Friends to Lovers, Sports (Diving, Football) Standalone: Yes POV: Camden (aka Cammie or Cam) Steam Level: Some 5/5
I knew from the start that this story would be an emotional journey. In it Cam is looking back using Country songs and lyrics to reflect on her life and love with Jake - her neighbor, protector, and first love. My Life as a Country Album is an emotional journey though stories and memories that leaves you breathless and heartbroken. I laughed at Cam's stubbornness and how Jake would deal with it. I loved how strong and feisty Cam is and how Jake builds her up, loving her because of this, not despite it. Jake and Cam's love story was beautiful, passionate, devastating and too short. But, like I said, we know from the start how it ends. However, that not how this story ends. I loved that L.J. Evans showed Cammie also healing and moving forward, one day at a time or sometimes one hours or minute at a time. I loved how this story ends with a new beginning. I love who Cam reconnects with and how he acknowledged Jake's memory and Cam's love for him - not trying to replace Jake but to expand Cam's heart further to include him. I was surprised who she ended up with but also not. I'm not usually someone who likes stories that cut you open and make you cry but this book is a fantastic read and also a great reminder to take care of yourself and your health. If I could give My Life as a Country Album more than five stars I would in a heartbeat.
Book 2: My Life as a Pop Album Narrator: Sarah Puckett Genre: Rockstar, Road Trip Standalone: Yes POV: Mia Steam Level: Steamy but not explicit 5/5
I LOVED THIS BOOK!!!!!! While not as heartbreaking as My Life as a Country Album, My Life as a Pop Album is still an emotional journey through learning to love and forgive yourself. This is Mia's book and in it she's dealing with the loss of her brother, despite giving him a kidney. The guilt she feel is heartbreaking but I loved how Derek dealt with it. I loved seeing Mia come out of her shell and also more of Cam's HEA. I loved Derek and how he shows his soft underbelly and coaxes the real Mia out of hiding, encouraging her to live outside of her comfort zone.
Book 3: My Life as a Rock Album Narrator: Neill Thorne and Sarah Puckett Genre: Suspense (Stalker), Antihero, Redemption, Enemies to Lovers, Second-Chance Standalone: Yes POV: Seth and PJ Steam Level: Steamy but not too graphic 5/5
I love that Seth got his redemption story! Meeting Seth in My Life As A Country Album you see him in a dark place. You see the bad boy who feels deeply and lashes out. You see what he wants you to see, the image he projects to the world but also a hint of the softer-side shown to Cam, but don't really get to know him. In My Life as a Rock Album, you see the real Seth. You see the man reflected in his art - a little bit damaged and pieced together to make a stronger whole.
The format of My Life as a Rock Album is unique is the best way for this story to be told. Love, loss, and acceptance emerge in a brutally honest way. PJ (or Bella as Seth calls her) is strong and sassy. What she’s gone through strengthened her despite the way she sees herself. The triumph and love and support system is strong. The mystery of what happened with PJ’s stalker unfolds throughout the letters and memories, in bits and pieces welded together - just like Seth’s art. This series continues to get better with each book.
Favorite Quotes Not until we are lost do we begin to find ourselves Not being able to see the ground is not the same as being lost. “When you touch me I forget where I was going”...”Maybe it’s because you’re already where you need to be.” “Nobody deserves another person, PJ. You can’t earn a someone like a merit badge. All you can do is love one another and if you do that should be enough. If you truly love each other, mistakes and all, then you get to help each other be the best version of yourselves you can be.”
Book 4: My Life as a Mixtape Narrators: Michael Norman Johnson and Sarah Puckett Genre: Inherited Baby/Single-Dad, Rockstar, Friends to Lovers POV: Lonnie and Wynn Steam Level: Slow burn to warm, but not explicit 5/5
We meet Wynn as Cam's friend in My Life as a Country Album and Lonnie as Derrick's best friend in My Life as a Pop Album. I was hoping that Lonnie would get his own HEA but I wasn't expecting it to be Wynn due to events in other books. Like previous books in this series, it doesn't shy away from the hard, emotional stuff that life brings. Wynn, newly divorced, is dealing with her hidden demons. Lonnie's quiet about his upbringing, but when he's called back to LA his life changes immediately. I loved that these two were each others' rock, supporting in each other in the hard times but also allowing each other to heal themselves. I love this series and My Life as a Mixtape is no exception. L.J. Evans is a phenomenal writer and I love how all these characters are strong on their own but even stronger together.
Bonus Material: Title: My Life with Cam Narrator: Michael Norman Johnson POV: Blake Steam Level: Minimal 5/5
This bonus novella is Blake's reaction to Can's journal from My Life as a Country Album and reflecting on his past (and future) with Cam while she's delivering their son. I loved seeing some of her memories from his view, how he saw her relationship with Jake and even Cody. He was almost always on the periphery of the story since they grew up together-ish. I wondered who told Jake about what happened with Seth and Cam on the cliff. I loved (and hoped) that she shared her memories of Jake with Blake and filling in some of the gaps that she didn't know. This is a great addition/bonus to this boxset. You can feel Blake's love for Cam and the joy he feels when this cowboy captures his filly, not to break or tame, but to enjoy the ride that is life.
The world that L.J Evans creates in this series is beautiful - full of love, but also doesn't shy away from the hard stuff that life often throws at you.
I received this audiobook for free from Pink Flamingo Productions and Audiobook Obsession. This is my honest and voluntary review.
My Life As an Album series by LJ Evans is one of the sweetest tales of The South and its families that I loved the hell out of in 2020!! My Life As a Country Album There's so much to this book, so much life lived in such a short amount of time. I haven't read a book in the first person POV without bouncing between both characters in a long time, and it was actually refreshing. LJ Evans ability to tell a story that can shatter you in the middle, but still build you back up and leave you with hope and love again by the end is just one of the best reasons I'm drawn back to her words and new (to me) books time and time again. Her ability to heal that pain in those families, and still leave the families connected and unbroken, helping them find love again in a new and peaceful way is one of my favourite things about her writing. The catharsis I find in her words is incredibly inspiring. 5 GLORIOUS stars for the football god and his dolphin!!
My life As a Pop Album
Mia and Derek are one of the most special couples I've met this year. Yes, this book moves fast. Yes, it may seem like an insta-love, but when you know, you know. When your heart gives you all the right signals there's really no reason to walk away from that. Sweet, and soul satisfying, I loved everyone rallying around Mia to show her the forgiveness she's not been able to give herself, to lift her up in the way she's been doing the lifting these last few years. Everything I've come to love in LJ Evans writing.
My Life As a Rock Album
The letters from Sam to PJ, and PJ's reaction to his letters are loving, caring, but still somewhat angry, and obsessed on Sam's part, and when he doesn't get to see her when he finally demands it, things seem to go swiftly downhill at this point, but this is where Sam finally learns his limits and that to have a chance at PJ he finally has to let it all go. Probably my favourite book in the My Life As an Album series aside from the first, My Life As a Country Album, the poignancy in this book just makes my heart hurt. Definitely one of my favourite books by LJ.
My Life As a Mixtape
Wynn and Lonnie's story is sweet, sad and loving, all while building that Slow Burn tension LJ Evans writes so well. There is so much miscommunication, and sometimes outright avoidance of telling each other the truth, that I fought hard against wanting to throw my phone against the wall. I think aside from My Life As a Country Album, this is the most angst riddled book in the series, and I absolutely loved ALL OF IT! Wynn and Lonnie are amazing, and I adore the love and care the narrators obviously have for the characters they are speaking for. I was thrilled to have been able to listen to the audiobook, as well as reading My Life As a Mixtape! Worth 6 stars AT LEAST!!
My Life As An Album Box Set LJ Evans From the first moment the melodic, deep and thoughtful words crash over you. This set starts off with Cam’s story, she thinks it is told by Taylor Swift, all the emotions of this young tom-boy in love with the boy next door. I even see Dolly P and Kenny R in this epic tale. My Life as A Country Album is so beautifully written. Heartbreaking, emotional and true. Told simply like a story or a love letter from Cam to Jake it reads like a highlight reel of memories. Refreshingly different in this genre.
This Life With Cam Short Story Written from Blake’s POV as a letter to Cam, this beautiful short is like a mega bonus epilogue of My Life as A Country Album. I read it straight after. You need to have read My Life As A Country AlbuM first. This one will melt your heart, I am definitely team Blake.
My Life As A Pop Album Derek and Mia pure adventure and destiny to the songs of Ed Sheeran. This book follows on from Country Album with the stories of Cam and Blake, Wynn and all their families. However it could be read as a stand-alone novel with hea. LJ Evans just floors need with every book she writes so lyrically. Authentic and beautifully crafted characters are her trademark.
My Life As A Rock Album The third in this series surprised me with Seth being our main man. The music of Bon Jovi pulls the hearts and minds of Seth and his Bella PJ together and far apart. This is written in a grittier more urban style somewhat darker like Seth’s complicated background. The story is harsh, uncompromising and unforgiving which is so different to the first two books. I think this is deliberate, some characters float through from the other books in this series and it definitely sits well. It could be read as a stand-alone novel with hea. I really enjoyed this book in a different way to the others.
My Life As A Mix Tape Lonnie and Wynne’s story introduced me to this series. Crazy that I read this first when it is #4. It made me want to read the rest! My review when I first read... Wynn, Lonnie and little Edie. Destiny and friends throw these three together at what they think is the wrong time. But it oh so right. Some of the most endearing characters you will read. Ms Evans writes for your heart and soul! There will be tears but this only makes the hard earned hea all the more sweet. This book is part of the ‘My Life As An Album’ series and has intertwined character, however can be completely read as a stand-alone novel with hea. I suggest you read them all. I received an arc of this box set of 4 novels. 5 musical stars.
When I first read this series, I went in blind on My Life as a Country Album, and I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I have no idea where I came across it, but it happened to be on my Kindle while I was on vacation, and I really needed something to read. Well, I finished it in nearly one sitting (while sobbing on a balcony in front of the ocean) and immediately went in search of more. I was lucky enough to download My Life as a Pop Album right away and read it the next day, but I was devastated when that was all that had been released. I immediately contacted LJ Evans to let her know how her books had touched me, because I couldn’t get them out of my head. I waited anxiously for more, and LJ continued to earn her spot as one of my favorite authors book after book.
This series has it all. It is so full of love, life, family, and friendship. Sure, there are times where the heartache is profound, but there is also a deep-seated resiliency in each of these characters. We see them struggle, but we also see them fight to overcome and find their happily-ever-afters. I’m not sure I’ve ever read another series that touched me quite like this one.
I waited years to hear Blake Abbott’s side of the story. I begged for it every chance I got, and I swear it doesn’t disappoint. This Life with Cam is absolutely perfect. I swear, the dedication page isn’t even my favorite part. (Okay, it might be right up there, lol.) But seriously, it just goes to show that this series was worth every single tear I shed, because these characters got everything they needed in the end. I will forevermore be on both #TeamJake and #TeamBlake, because they both brought so much love and life to these characters when they needed them most.
Long story short, you want this series. These characters will work their way into your heart and soul. You will completely forget they only exist in booklandia, and they will stay with you long after you have finished reading. This is one of my most frequent recommendations, and I don’t expect that to change any time soon. Do yourself a favor and grab this set today!
I’ve already reviewed the main books in this box set individually so this will be just for the new Novella - My Life With Cam
My Life with Cam - this is not a standalone novella- you need to read My Life as a Country Album first- otherwise it’s a spoiler. -I loved Jake and Cam but after Jake, I was so happy that she found Blake to help her heal and live again. This story is from Blake’s POV and he is writing to Cam about how he fell for her. He starts back from the first time he remembered seeing her as a little girl, then through both good and bad times of her life, when they reconnected and started dating until now when she’s about to have their first child. So we hear his thoughts on a lot of my favorite scenes from book 1. He was sweet and had me swooning easily. I love him even more now. This was perfect.
I absolutely adore this series! And though I have already read and reviewed the books individually I had to post here to thank LJ for the bonus This Life With Cam short! Blake's story is cleverly woven through all of the Cam memories I hold dear. He is an absolute gem and reading his version of events was a heart-warming and beautiful trip down memory lane with the added bonus of getting to know him better. I love him even more now. Thank you! LJ, you made me cry again!
This set is perfect for those of you that love reading each of the love stories for a group of friends/family. I loved every single book. Definitely my favorite is Cam's story. It's sad, but she most definitely received her HEA!! You also get Mia's, Seth's, and Wynn's stories. I promise you that you will love it so much that the end of the set will be bittersweet!!!
This box set will turn you upside down and inside out in the best way ever! LJ Evans is able to write characters that I feel like I know. I think about them as family, friends, and neighbors. These stories will make you laugh, cry and keep turning the pages. The bonus Novella Life With Cam, tells Blake's side of the story and it's so sweet!
My Life as an Album (Books 1-4) A Small Town, Southern Fiction Series By: LJ Evans Narrated by: Sarah Puckett, Michael Norman Johnson, Neill Thorne
There are so many times that a series is recommended to me, and with all the hype, the series does not live up to my expectations. LJ Evans My Life as an Album exceeded my expectations and more! 41 hours of story, all tied together with fragments of songs and I never wanted it to stop. Each story stands alone, but there are recurring characters. The first one gives us that once in a lifetime love. The one boy we fall in love with when we are young and know we will marry. Cam and Jake were this couple. Next we have Mia and Derek. Now I loved Cam and Jake and felt the incredible emotions of that story, but I really loved how Mia's character came through it all. These two had quite a ride working through so many issues and Derek had me swooning. Rock Album was so much fun because I love Bon Jovi. Yes, the story is good, but being an 80's girl had me loving the beginning of each chapter! This one is alternating points of view with PJ and letters from Seth. It gives us a great insight to both sides and making us feel it all. The love, the frustration, the fear and the desire. It's all there in both of them. Evans also adds a thread of suspense, which I loved! Mix Tape has all the fun and emotional songs and lets us live with Lonnie and Wynn. Not only was this a couple easy to fall in love with, but the slow burn made it that much sweeter. And Edie!!! What a doll. Ending this fantastic series is a novella that brings everything full circle for Cam and it's so wonderful. It's like the bow on a present. This is more than a story. It's the kind of book that resonates with you, gives you all the feels and will give you a warm heart. Make sure to pick this one up!
Sarah Puckett is narrates in all 4 of the books and what a performance. Each one fits the female lead perfectly. Her talent brings out everything these women felt and truly makes the story come alive. She is amongst two other fabulous narrators. Neill Thorne narrates Seth in My Life as a Rock Album and he fits the part. He gives Seth creates all facets of his personality and lets it out in those letters. Followed by Michael Norman Johnson as Lonnie and Blake in My Life as a Mix Tape and Cam. Each one is amazing and lets us feel and understand each character. The choice of these narrators for me was key to making the stories. Enhancing the books with these voices made it come alive and had me hooked.
My Life As A Country Album – Even though there was three years between them Cam and Jake are best friends whose relationships evolved into an enduring love. They had their whole future planned out until they found out that life is not always fair and it’s how you handle what life throws at you that shows your true strength and resilience.
My Life As A Pop Album - Mia blames herself for being unable to help those she loved so she is determined to be the perfect daughter. Derek is a rising rock star who hides his demons behind a happy façade. They have an immediate chemistry and connection, but they take us on emotional ride as they fight for a future together.
My Life As A Rock Album - Seth is an artist with a tortured soul who believes that he is unlovable while PJ is a blogger who carries regrets and guilt from her past as well. From the moment they meet the connection between them is deep, but neither is prepared for the depth of their feelings and the damage from their pasts.
My Life As A Mix Tape - Wynn has returned home after the end of her marriage while Lonnie is the bass player who is there when she needs someone the most. When life as Lonnie knows it abruptly changes it is Wynn’s turn to stand by him and they must decide if they are ready and willing to take the leap from friends to lovers.
It is great to have this series in one set. The narrators managed to bring out not only the emotion and angst of the story but the captivating characters as well. 🎧The Flock
I love this series! Each book holds a special place in my heart for different reason. Each book is so unique. Each character is so well developed. I cannot recommend LJ Evansnovels enough. This series was my starting point. And her new series is fantastic too. This is a series i will re-read. I do not often re-read books but these characters. These stories make me want to read them over and over again.
The short story of This Life With Cam. It is the perfect round up of Cam's story. Being able to get a glimpse at Blake's story is fantastic. He is her perfect match after everything that happens. He understands her and who she is, understands Jake's place in both their lives. All he wants to be is her last. Super Girl has found her match.. it is a cute short story.
This is the first series I've read/listened to by LJ Evans. She is a great writer with spellbinding storylines and wonderful characters. I didn't want to pause the audio, but I had to live my life! I would wake up thinking of these characters and their situations. I really loved how she wrote these. Book one as a journal with one narrator, book two was more normal with one narrator, book three through letters with two narrators, and book four was more normal with two narrators, book five was a novella with one narrator.
These stories were humorous, heartbreaking, and heartwarming all rolled together. I was so invested in this world she created of broken characters that heal with family and friends supporting them. You'll need tissues for each book, but be prepared to laugh as well.
The narrators were fantastic. Sarah Puckett, Michael Norman, and Neill Thorne performances were perfection of smooth voices with so much emotion. The books rolled like a movie. SO. VERY. GOOD.
*I read this book through the Kindle Unlimited program.
This series gets better each time I read it. I love the characters and their growth. Lj's writing helps you really connect with them. You feel what they are feeling, the love and the heartache. The new short story is an extra bonus to see some of your favorite moments relived but from a different perspective. I wish I could give it more than 5 stars! Love all of her work but this is the series that brought me to her.
My life as an Album is a set of four interconnected standalone novels, and one exclusive novella. This is a great value, and an amazing Boxed Set. Each story is beautifully written, and emotional, with a satisfying happy ending. 1) My Life as a Country Album: Cam and Jake's story is emotional and heartbreaking. 2) My Life as a Pop Album: Mia and Derek's story is emotional and sweet, filled with angst and guilt. 3) My Life as a Rock Album: Seth and PJ's story is heartwrenching, emotional, and intense, filled with misunderstandings, a lack of communication, and a little suspense. 4) My Life as a Mixtape: Wynn and Lonnie's slow burn romance, is sweet and beautiful. This Life with Cam: This novella is an amazing surprise and a great addition to the series. Sarah Puckett, Michael Norman Johnson, and Neill Thorne did a great job with the narration. I highly recommend this boxed set. #AudiobookObsession
Never in my life have I listened to a series with such a myriad oF emotions. Each story has its own theme, based on songs by various music artists. Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, Bon Jovi, Lady Antebellum and one with various artists. Tissues are needed throughout each book. the angst, heartbreak, life and death, untold feelings that cost losing love, are masterfully written with emotions so raw it will gut you. Sarah Puckett, Neill Thorne and Michel Norman Johnson are phenomenal with their narration. Their voices and personalities for each character were spot on! The ability to transition from one character to the other is flawless. They each portrayed them at their strongest, weakest and most vulnerable moments. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to these story. Thank you L J Evans for a wonderful series. I highly recommend it! 🎧#audiobookobsessionreviewer🎧
