The Kurus were a venerated race that dominated nearly the entire landscape of Bharatvarsha spanning over generations till the time the young blind prince Dhritarastra was denied his throne based on his blindness spurning in his heart a fire of jealousy and ambition which raged down to his sons. "The outcome of the war was kong known to me and maybe even to him, but he chose to die honourably for his beliefs rather than bow and surrender"~ Duryodhana's Queen( Priyanka Bhuyan) 💛
💛We all know the story about the great epic Mahabharata but have you ever noticed that we only talk about the people who won this battle and never about the people who were flawed, who died because of their honour and beliefs. They also followed the path of Dharma and still faced the death. But people was unable to see that war, according to Kauravas and their wives, their mother, Gandhari and their father, Dhritarashtra. We never thought about their side and always paid attention the side of Dharma aka Pandavas and 100-Kauravas, who died along with many great warriors of that time who supported them but their heart went to Pandavas as they were more beloved to everyone. And Duryodhana was left alone all the time accept her maternal uncle, Shakuni, who always had his back.
💛Praises for Pandavas as they abide by the Dharma and belittle Kauravas as they rip off the clothes of Draupadi but have we ever thought that who was the main victim and who was behind this war and who was the person who bowed the seed of hatred among the Kuru Clan. I guess never. This story is a re-telling of Mahabharata, written according to Bhanumati, Duryodhana's beloved wife, whom he trusted from his heart and loved her immensely. She was a queen by her words and her aura, but still couldn't turn this fight down and lived in pain throughout, she had lost her dear husband and her beloved son. And Duryodhana was aware of his misfortune but his eyes were clouded with his own ego and can't back off from the war and all the bloodshed instead wanted to die honourably like a warrior.
💛Highly recommended for the beginners and all the readers who want to read Mythological epic from other point of view. Short chapters, language is very simple and fast paced.
“But remember even a diamond, if in the wrong hands has got no value. The diamond looks good only in the jewelry; else for others, it is nothing but a stone.”
The great epics of the Hindu religion, Mahabharata and Ramayana, always glorify heroes; and why not? They won over evil. They chose good over bad and proved their heroism, showing bravery, and courage. But a very few times, we talk about those who are considered “villains” be it Ravana from Ramayana or Duryodhana or collectively Kauravas from Mahabharata.
Moreover, we hardly talk about their wives. We never think what would they feel when Kaurava's got ready for the war or when there was Draupadi’s Vastraharan. What happened to them after the war? We talk about Draupadi's despair but we never talk about the grief of Kaurava’s wives after the great war.
Duryodhana’s Queen by Priyanka Bhuyan is a retelling of Mahabharata from the eyes of Bhanumati, the princess of Kalinga, wife of Duryodhana and Kuru Queen of Hastinapur. Her unmatched beauty and brilliance made her hope for the grandest Swayamvar. But destiny had something different in store for her. From bearing extreme pain to finding true love, the story unfolds what is unwritten and never talked of.
The interesting character along with Bhanumati is her husband: Duryodhana. The book reveals his unusual side of personality. Did Duryodhana deliberately go ahead with the war? This unseen side of him will make you awestruck and you will find it worth interesting to know about him.
The best part about this book is that it throws light on other less popular characters of Mahabharata who also need to be voiced. The mythology lovers will definitely love it. The narration and characters keep you glued till the end, and you will get a different perspective about Mahabharata. The cover depicts the aura of the book in the best manner. A good read indeed!
📚 Before reading the book :- Before reading this book i just want to say that -must know about the epic and historic characters of Mahabharata. Honestly speaking, I didn't know anything about the bhanumati. But while reading the book i came to know who she was. The whole story is narrated by bhanumati herself.
🌺About bhanumati:- Bhanumati , wife of DURYODHANA , Son - lakshmana and lakshman . How author described her beauty with the beautiful lines like - as bhanumati itself say --- bards sang songs of my charm and painters painted my appearance.... Here she also tell about her education.. she was studied from literature to ayurveda. She also got the training of self defence . A complete women who was perfect in everything A brave , beautiful and full of intelligence.
🌺About book:- There are 24 chapters including prologue to epilogue. Each chapters have different emotions. An emotion of love , pain , sacrifice , lose , anger , egoistic and many more as bhanumati itself narrates the story of its swaymbhara to hating duryodhana to falling in love with him and to the lost of her son to become widow. What I love to know about the good and gentle charcter of DURYODHANA . Somewhere I realise while reading, that each person have a good in them but there ego and anger destroy someone inner peace and goodness. Same it happens with duryodhana. But his wife completely narrates his brave and good & soft side. To more in deep go through this wonderful book. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
🌺My take:- I completely love this book . In just one seat I read 87 pages. If you get interest it takes hardly takes 2-3 seats. I personally recommend this book to those who are fond of mythology and historic books like me.🥰
We all have read, heard and even watched the epic saga of Mahabharata thousand times. Every time it leaves us shattered and wondering. Shattered because it ends with the bloodshed brought over by enemity of brothers on brothers and in the end we always can hear wailing of widows of thousands of men that died in this gruesome war.
Duryodhana's Queen is the same story. About the same unfortunate but deserving Pandavas and their stubborn cousin brothers. The same where a God was involved in a war, where he used all his tricks, and his wisdom to set an example for the coming generations. The same where a woman was disrobed in an assembly full of learned and powerful men. The same where one woman's revenge destroyed a whole clan.
Then why you should read it?
Because you can never get enough of it. This book though presents a known story is very much different because its narrator is different. Not only different but a less known and less talked about. But, a character which holds your curiosity. Bhanumati. She is the wife of the vilest person ever known in Indian history or mythology ( as per your convenience). The one who fell to a new low every day. The one who kept trying to kill his brothers, the one who tried to chain the God, the one who wanted to disrobe a queen. But he was also the one who befriended the a outcaste, the one who was brave to fight his own battles, the one who died a painful death.
It is about the woman who knew that villian closely. Why she married him? How was she? What was it like to be a wife to that person? How she felt when everything was ravelling before her eyes?
Read this book to know her and to relive the greatest story every told. Author did a great job in making the book contemporary enough for this generation. It is fast-paced to keep you from loosing interest. Definitely worth a read!

Chronicles of Kuru Woman- Duryodhana's Queen' by Priyanka Bhuyan is an eloquently written book. . The story is about Bhanumati, Duryodhana's wife. This book has opened a new world for me, the realm of unknown characters. Before starting the book, I didn't even know who Bhanumati was and now, I know quite something about her. . Bhanumati, golden as the Sun, was born to King Chitrangada and Queen Chandramudra. She was taken by force by Duryodhana and spent her entire life with the most guileful people of the kingdom. . The story of Mahabharata always highlights Duryodhana as the villain and Pandavas as the heroes. But is that all Duryodhana was? No. This story represents another side of the Kuru Prince. How Duryodhana was a loving husband, a fair prince and how he craved for love and respect all his life. . What I like about the book is, it gives us a fresh perspective of the Epic. Many books that I've read are the re-telling of the Mahabharata from Draupadi's perspective, but this is the first time I've heard of a new character. Bhanumati is a strong character and the book is very well written. . It also talks about the struggles of women and how the war of Mahabharata rendered them lifeless. It throws light on how Bhanumati had to snatch her position in the male dominated kingdom. . The simple language and an interesting plot are two things that make this book extraordinary. The author has kept the book crisp and short. . With mythologies, a lot of things can go wrong and it's quite difficult to keep it true without hurting the sentiments of the audience, Bhuyan has done this job brilliantly. . This is a great book for the mythology lovers. . Ratings: 4.5/5
Title : Duryodhana's Queen Author: Priyanka Bhuyan Genre: Mythology retold My rating : ⭐⭐⭐⭐/5
We, Indians, have all read The Mahabharata right? For those, who don't know it is a religious epic sacred book of Indian mythology written by sage Ved Vyas. It has the author himself as a character 😂 and it is also the very book in which Hindu God Krishna narrated his famous Bhagavad Gita ✨. The Mahabharata is an epic tale of politics, betrayal, love and rivalry between two cousin clans the Pandavas and Kauravas over the throne of Hastinapur and a fierce battle of dharma. The Pandavas have always been portrayed as the good guys, but in 'Duryodhana's Queen', the author has beautifully painted the whole epic to us from the Kauravas' point of view.
The narrator is Bhanumati, the queen of Duryodhana, the eldest Kaurava Prince. Duryodhana has always been looked down upon by all the Elders of the Kuru dynasty because of religious and astrological blind beliefs. Belitted again and again, he kept getting influenced by his evil maternal uncle, Shakuni since childhood. Then one day, he forcibly kidnaps Princess Bhanumati from her own Swayambhar and weds her. Although feeling hatred and strong contempt towards this vile husband of hers, she finally sees through him gradually and discovers a fiercely loyal man. We are then swept up in Bhanu's tale of finally emerging as a true Kuru queen and an epitome of dharma towards her husband and family. Though it was a little weird when she was describing her own beauty at the beginning of the book 🙊, but I absolutely loved this refreshingly original take on The Mahabharata.

In the grand epic of Mahabharata, the tale of Duryodhana, the Kaurava prince, is often recounted as a story of ambition, power, and ultimately, downfall. However, there exists a lesser-known narrative, one that unfolds from the perspective of his queen, Bhanumati. "Duryodhana's Queen" by Priyanka Bhuyan is a refreshing retelling of the Mahabharata from the perspective of Bhanumati, the wife of Duryodhana, the epic's antagonist.
Bhanumati, the princess of Kalinga, is portrayed as a woman of remarkable beauty and intelligence. Her life takes an unexpected turn when Duryodhana abducts her from her swayamvara, a practice where a bride chooses her husband from an assembly of suitors. Initially filled with resentment, Bhanumati gradually discovers a different side to Duryodhana, a man often painted as the antagonist of the Mahabharata.
This novel explores the complexities of their relationship, as Bhanumati navigates her role as the queen of Hastinapur, the kingdom of the Kauravas. She witnesses Duryodhana's struggles, his insecurities, and his unwavering loyalty to his family. As their bond deepens, Bhanumati becomes a pillar of support for Duryodhana, offering him counsel and solace amidst the political turmoil that surrounds them.
Author's writing style is captivating, weaving together historical details with a touch of poetic flair. She brings to life the grandeur of the Mahabharata era, immersing readers in the opulence of palaces, the thrill of battles, and the intricacies of courtly life. Through Bhanumati's eyes, we witness the unfolding of pivotal events, from the infamous dice game to the devastating Kurukshetra war.
" The outcome of the war was long known to me and maybe even to him, but he chose to die honourably for his beliefs rather than to bow and surrender. "
" Duryodhana's Queen " is the second volume of Chronicles of Kuru Women Series by author Priyanka Bhuyan potraying the hidden tale of Epic Mahabharata from the eyes of Bhanumati; the wife of Duryodhana, the eldest of the Kauravas and heir-apparent to the throne of Hastinapur.
Just like the coin has its contradictory sides, Duryodhana's character is potrayed as a dedicated and dutiful son, as a great and passionate lover and as a responsible and caring father. It's the great retelling tale from Bhanumati's perspective, rising from grief and pain to finding true love, she came across a powerful revelation towards the end.
The author crafted the book and every character very beautifully with intense decoration and interest. The cover page of the book will surely have the reader's attention. The dialogues and folklore scenes are much attractive. Language is easy and lucid with simple narrative style of writing. Overall it's a great mythological read.

Review Duryodhana’s Queen” is a tale of one of the Kuru Woman. Her journey - She was being forced to marry duryodhana The eldest Kaurava prince but later she falls in love with him. And the princess who became his wife and of course his life.
The reason that this book is interesting is that it brings forth a story and gives a voice to this another lesser-known woman from the Mahabharata.
This book will appeal to mythology lovers and to the general public since our history is rich with heroic tales of feminine power, which we as Indians should be proud of.
The writing style and language used is good not very complex and anyone can easily make it out. And let's not forget to appreciate the book cover which depicts the story incredibly
The protray of characters are also good and specific as well.
The narration is excellent. It touches each aspect and make it a complete book with a good pace never feeling bored while reading it.

“The Chronicles Of Kuru Women - Duryodhana's Queen” was a mythological fiction by the author “Priyanka Bhuyan”. In this book, the author had conveyed the story of one of the most untold characters of Mahabharata. The story is about The Princess of Kalinga Bhanumati. She was forcibly taken away from her swayamvara by Duryodhana. And She became the fierce Kuru Queen of Hastinapur.
