In the way only she can, Bunmi echoes the same fears, joys, delights, loneliness, regrets, and love you have in your heart through prayers that . . . No prayer is more powerful than the one prayed by a parent for their child. Experience today how prayer can change not only your own life but the lives of your children.
Hello, my name is Bunmi Laditan. I am a writer living in Quebec, Canada by way of northern California. My writings include The Honest Toddler and Confessions of a Domestic failure and poetry such as Dear Mother and Dear God: Honest Prayers to a God Who Listens.
This was one of the most beautiful books I've ever read. I am not a parent (I am a teenage girl) but I was so heartwarmed by the book all the same and it only made parenting in the future seem all the more beautiful and precious. I recommend this book to all parents who need a breath and a reminder that God was a parent first and He is a perfect one. A reminder to lean on Him in times of trouble and ask Him for help when you need it. He is always there to guide and lead you in parenting and in life.
So beautiful.
Here's a prayer that really stood out to me:
"Dear God, It was raining outside today and my little one wanted to hold our single umbrella. I gently took it from his small hand and said, 'Let me hold it for you. I'm higher up. Just stay underneath,' and I knew You had said the same thing to me time and time again. You're saying it now. I love when You do that. Thanks for holding the umbrella. Love, Me"
Having previously read 'Confessions of a Domestic Failure', I loved the author's humorous voice, and was excited to receive and advanced copy of this book to read. I wasn't expecting the format of the direct-to-god prayer/poem set up, so it took a bit of adjusting. Although I don't consider myself very religious, I still found SO MANY feelings and emotions I could relate to. Ms. Laditan does another wonderful job of really embodying the joys and challenges of parenthood, and highlighting all of the moments that make us laugh AND cry every day.
I would like to give this book a higher rating. I liked it and enjoyed it, but was not awed by it. I think the book is more suited to new mothers or mothers with small children. I plan to give the book to mt niece who has a young son in hope she will find inspiration and comfort in it. Thank you for the gift of the book! (I also think that the book may lend itself to a more inspiring read in the finished copy - this was an advanced copy with simple text (including formatting) on the pages).
I think all readers will find prayers that resonate with them and maybe permeate through their soul. Some prayers will have you just chuckling.
I love the way the author captured so many moments and was able to write about them and share them with God so they could work things out and share the stress, the happiness, the love, the uncertainty, the scariness and the enormity of the task of raising children. The author's faith is an example for others.
I loved this book. It was so beautifully done. Every parent should read it. The warm feelings and the tears from listening to how God must be looking at us like we look at our kids was just so wonderfully described. It made you feel so small and I'm grateful to have a heavenly father watching over our lives. It was so short and sweet.
Very sweet book, some prayers I wrote down. I’m not necessarily religious (aka Christian)… but this book spoke to me as a spiritual person who often cries to God to help raising my young babes. Sweet reminders of the joy and chaos that is parenting.
This collection of prayers are simple, but complex, raw, but relatable, funny and endearing. I laughed out loud a few times because of the realness. I listened to this as an ALC and will be buying the book. I just loved it
I just love Bunmi. She’s insightful and witty as always and these poems, similar to Dear Mother, are another balm for the parent’s soul and anxious mind.
