Dark Target: An Old Farts Club Story

Rate this book

The Old Farts Club returns in the explosive sequel to the award-winning debut, Exodus.

A sniper’s bullet buzzes the ear of retired bomb disposal expert, John McIntyre, leaving his colleague dead in the street.

When McIntyre discovers the sniper was only the first part of a kill-team sent to stop their investigation into mysterious happenings in the North Sea, he calls in a favor from an old military friend, English, the latest recruit of The Old Farts Club.

While The Club heads overseas to help McIntyre, a purse snatching at home leads Dud’s wife, Evie, and her sister on a chase across the country to confront the thief – a journey that develops into an adventure more perilous and chilling at every turn.

But when the guys find themselves isolated in unchartered waters, and the girls realize the stakes are much higher than they expected, both will have to call on outside help if they are to have any chance of survival.

Dark Target, #2 - I laughed myself silly at the two different ops that were in progress simultaneously, each without knowledge of the other. Of course, there was plenty of action along with the humor, and some slapstick dialog between members of the least experienced team. There was some interesting technology used. I liked the way that one team came together. I was curious how the separation would be handled. Realistic enough for me. I have read everything this author has written, and sadly, he cannot keep me in enough books books to read. While he does not write about the law, I place Mr. Williams on par with John Grisham. 5*

Old Farts Club Series:
Exodus: The Old Farts Club, #1 - I had the pleasure of reading this in paperback, which I know enhanced this fun and exciting story. Try gripping a Kindle, twisting its pages and flipping back and forth as the story grabs you. Similar to the difference of seeing Die Hard in a theater for the first time compared to watching it at home alone. The characters range in personalities, skills and opinions, but they are one unit, one team, brothers; even the British dude. Realistic, no Rambos here, just men doing the right thing. The story lines are interesting and immersing making the book hard to put down. I read this in one day, it is that entertaining. The support characters are good and even their own bits added more depth. Of course, a bit of British cuisine made its appearance, which I found funny since the names of these dishes, and some ingredients, can repel the American palate. There are a couple of unexpected happenings that surprised me, usually I know what to expect; read as much as I do, and have, and there are rare surprises. 5*
Old Farts Club Series end.

A Guy Walks Into A Bar - I enjoy reading books by this talented author. I tried to finish this book in one sitting but, alas, 0300 hours knocked me out. Funny. Interesting. Intriguing. Well written with well thought out story lines and a group of characters that are characters. All the good guys were likeable and easy to root for and the baddies were easy to hate, and admire their professionalism. I enjoyed finding out about the different types of drones and sure could use one of the loaded for bear ones in my backyard. Entertaining and realistic. 5*

A Girl Walks Into a Bar - What is better than having one Mick Williams book to read? Having two to read back-to-back. Having just discovered A Guy, I was tickled to read A Girl two days later. This book takes place two years after A Guy ends. These two books are like watching Die Hard 1 and 3, but in written form. Plenty of action scenes with a good cast of characters. Sabrina and Monica are still adorable, but lethal, characters. Well written with good humor and realistic dialogue and action scenes. I have enjoyed all the books I've read by this talented writer. 5*

Callie's Eyes - My first read by this author. The second time, I had the pleasure to read this book in paperback, which is still the only way to read, in print. This story is an awesome read. Full of various elements that add depth and give the reader material to think about while reading intense story lines about well developed characters. Callie is a mature, giving 13-year-old instead of the typical whiny, self-centered youth so common today. She is blind and has visions of horrors to come. There are bad guys, the government, Christians and non-Christians among other elements that affect her family's problems in doing the right thing. I have read this book twice, a rarity these recent years, and found the first read just as immersing as the first. 5*

Final Clearance - My second book by this author and I enjoyed it, too. Funny how things work out for some people. Told in first person, the story hits highs and lows as well as love and humor. A killer with a conscience and morals, go figure. Good characters, great story lines, clean dialog and humor made this one sitting read. 4*

A real thrilling all-action adventure, which ended up being quite a sinister story.
The Old Farts Club: a small group of mixed-age military veterans with various ‘skills’. And I just love their tracking down skills. I really liked the scenes in the pub. Brutal but very very good. The underground vaults were great scenes in my head as I visualised all the kit, like a James Bond film.
Towards the end when they were all on the platform and they were chasing around the corridors, it was very tense.
Macca (McIntyre)– I loved his Scottish accent and how it was written so I could read it with a Scottish voice.
A Charlies Angels type spin off in the future would be great, featuring the ladies!?

I was lucky enough to have read a very early copy of this quite some time ago and because I'm an idiot I neglected to write a proper review for it at the time.

I can, however, confirm that I thoroughly enjoyed it and very much recommend that you add it to your reading list.

I intend to re-read it at some point and update my review.
