Buttermilk Falls bachelor Adam Reed never expected to assume the title of Supernatural Matchmaker, yet thanks to his ghostly distant cousin, Mary Reed, he’s now the recipient of one shimmering blue mixing spoon and a powerful spell that can conjure up the name of any woman’s soulmate—and just in time for the holidays! The only problem: the male names that appear are totally unexpected and causing chaos. Forget about apologies or explanations, these bachelorettes want his head on a Christmas platter.
Bethany Wilson has had one wish since she was fourteen: That Adam Reed would one day be her boyfriend. Always on the sidelines, she watched the budding high school romance between her best friend and Adam bloom into something longer lasting. When the unthinkable happens and the two break up, Bethany can’t help but wonder a year later if she can finally reveal to him how she feels.
Unsure and still afraid to go after what she wants, Bethany attends the annual Holiday Hook Up event – the town’s annual pairing of couples between Christmas and New Years – prepared to once again stand on the sidelines. That is, until she discovers a beautiful wedding dress in an antique hope chest. Little does she know that Mary was to be married in the dress before she died, and now has other plans for it that involve Bethany, Adam, and one toe curling kiss.
Holiday Hook Up is a sweet contemporary romance with a touch of magic, a small town full of love able characters, and one sassy ghost. It’s the fourth book in the Bachelors of Buttermilk Falls series.

This was a very cutesy novel at times and I loved it. These two characters were made for each other, one just got sidetracked along the way. Unfortunately, this is the first novel I read, but it is the fourth in the series. It does well as a stand alone, but you get the feeling that you are missing bits and pieces of the story that involves secondary characters sometimes. I was a bit turned off by the actions of the hero later in the story with the ex, but understand it was a major plot point, so was needed to move the story along.
A seasonal treat with mischief, mayhem and ghostly occurrences
I am so enjoying this book series from Buttermilk Falls and this seasonal story based around Adam & Bethany is a fun light entertaining read. I particularly love the antics of Mary the ghost. This is my all time favourite from the series.
3.75 stars! This was a good transition from Halloween into the holidays since there’s a bit of a paranormal element to the story. It’s a cute, small town romance and a quick, light read!
This is book four in the Buttermilk falls series. These are getting better and better as we learn about more couples and them falling for their ultimate soul mates. Mary Reed is ramping up her magical spells to bring these couples together. Love this series so far can't wait for the next instalment to arrive. So Robyn if you are reading your reviews I hope you are busy writing book 5 as we speak! I can't do without my buttermilk falls fix. Well done!

This was a freebie borrow audiobook…so I figured…why not?
Well, I’m glad I borrowed it and started a series at #4, which is annoying because now I’m going to have to go back to read the first three in the series.
Clearly, most of these are meant to be read in order. Any series I’ve ever read has benefited from being in order. Except for Jack Reacher books…because each one is like an individual capsule of events and the order at which you discover things about him doesn’t really matter. It’s probably better for someone like me to not read those books in order because it makes it harder for me to detect a discrepancy in the timeline of the character or characters of the series. I have no control over this. My brain detects the discrepancy as a lie, I guess. I’m still trying to figure out how my brain works…it really will plot against you without your knowledge. Sounds nuts? Yeah, it does. But it’s also the truth.
I digress. This is why I need books in order. I can’t help it I have a good memory. Authors must have to keep some very good notes about the plot of a series because that’s got to be hard to remember all that backstory after a series gets too long.
We’ll see if I figure out the errors in this one after I go back and get through the first 3. A cute story about a strange and quasi-magical town. The two main characters both love the Christmas movie It’s a Wonderful Life. This book is a bit of a tribute to that movie. I’ve always loved that movie where the little girl whispers into George Bailey’s deaf ear as he makes her a soda.
This is where it totally succeeds. The author reminds us by giving them “this life” as the movie ends. I’m digging it and think this is going to be some kind of a fun series. Just for brain candy.
The whole setup with this story was pretty interesting and at time hilarious. A matchmaker that was in the grave and supposed magic spoon that would reveal the name of one’s soulmate was pretty unique. I enjoyed seeing what Mary would leave Bethany next in order to push her towards Adam as well as admitted her feelings for him. That really piqued my interest.
This had my favorite trope of friends to lovers. Bethany and Adam both had crushes on each other when they were young, but all that changed when Adam started dating her best friend Rachel. Then the unrequited love that she had for Adam continued for years. I liked the friendship that they had. I liked the affection they had for one another. I did find it sweet as feelings started to emerge for Adam as he spent more time with Bethany. I liked seeing them spend more time together on these holiday dates. I liked whenever it was just the two of them with tension building between them. It was wonderful.
What I didn’t like and bugged the heck of me was whenever Rachel came on the scene interrupting them whenever they got closer. I thought it was very unnecessary. Yes, it was meant to be a part of the conflict, but there was enough in there that Rachel didn’t needed to be in there. Rachel just annoyed me. I didn’t like her. She just really brought the story down in my opinion. It just set the pace off. For me it took away from the romance between them. It just didn’t work. It made me dislike the story because that was in there.
The whole concept of the holiday hookup was weird. I got in theory, but it just gave off a weird vibe for me. It came off as sleepy thing instead of what it was such to be was cute holiday tradition that prompted romance. A lot of the time it felt like couples were “forced” to be together if the woman bought them for the duration. I didn’t really like that either.
As that I haven’t read the other books in the series, it was hard to keep track of who was who, who was with who, and who was related to who. At times it became very confusing. It got very mixed up in my head. That was a little jarring.
Overall this was just okay. It had concepts and tropes that I liked but there were other things I didn’t like. Despite liking Bethany and Adam together, this wasn’t my favorite friends to lovers. There was just something missing that made me not completely click. There just needed to be something more there. The pacing was off as unnecessary conflicts were thrown in their way. It was rocky journey that wasn’t always enjoyable. I liked the paranormal element. That was the most interesting part for me. That was what kept me reading this story. I wish I felt that feeling all the way through.
*used this book for the prompt of friends to lovers for the Hello 2022 Quarterly Reading Challenge from the Romance Readers Reading Challenge group on Goodreads. In this one Bethany and Adam have been friends for years and they fall in love.

Our library is currently offering December "Bonus Borrows" (library check-outs that don't count against your monthly check-out limit) of select holiday books so I decided to spin the wheel and randomly select a few to read. Will it be a surprise gem or rotting drivel? Time will tell...
This is the 4th book in a series, so I was just thrown in with a host of characters with this "Bonus Borrow”. However, it was well-written enough that I didn't feel like I'd missed anything, just that I could access more character depth in reading the previous books. The humor (though some of it was pretty ridiculous) was entertaining & escapist (I even laughed aloud a few times) and when I closed the book I had a smile on my face - one of my favorite marks of a good story.
This book felt like a faster read than the ones previous. It was also less magic heavy than the book right before this one, and more on par with the first two in the series. I liked that a new main character was introduced and helped to carry the story along. I wish a little bit more time was spent showing how the new character became part of the inner circle of the already established characters. Overall this was a cute read, another hallmarkesk feel.
This was a good addition to this series. It did drive me a bit nuts how much Bethany hid her attraction to Adam. But when it was spilled about the pizza...man that really made me feel sorry for her. All that she did for him without Adam knowing and then he started dating Rachel...that had to hurt. I'm glad that things worked out for them in the end.
Even without reading the rest of the series this was an easy holiday romance to get into. Having no understanding of Buttermilk Falls and the magic themes I was a little thrown by that…but it made this an interesting and atypical holiday read. Easy to read, likeable characters, a few twists…it just fit the bill.
CUTE! This book is part of a series and even though it is, it can be read as a standalone and not feel completely lost about other characters. Although, I will go back a read the previous books. Thank you Robyn Neeley and team for this book!
This series just gets better and better. Was really hoping Adam gets a great storyline and this book hasn’t disappointed. Love all the book in the series
Cute quick read. It’s worth it if you are in the mood for a slightly mystical holiday romance. Not exactly fantasy, not a traditional paranormal romance, but a little magic is thrown in.
