NightShade’s newest agents are in L.A. to bring down a burgeoning terrorist cell. To make things worse, it’s not just one terrorist cell, it’s two. Or is it three?
There is little to go on, only links between missing Army munitions and a veteran named Cooper Rollins. With his special ops training and severe PTSD, it's impossible to tell what kind of game Rollins is playing.
Eleri and Donovan will have to use their unique skills to stop the attack before it happens. But in the crowded city, there are too many people who might reveal what Donovan is if he dares to make the change. And Eleri is starting to show signs of powers she didn’t know she had, and can’t control.
On the surface the cells seem unrelated, each with separate perpetrators and different motives. But they are all linked by Rollins and the very disturbing passcode:
The stakes are higher as the tension mounts in this second installment. No rest for the weary, Eleri and Donovan are back and this time they're on a case that could threaten national security as a series of strange, unexplained murders lead to a terror cell.
Make that terror cells, as in more than one. They're all somehow connected to a troubled Iraq war veteran and a covert mission gone horribly wrong. Is he friend or foe? To find out, Eleri and Donovan team up with an ambitious local agent and a homeless female veteran, nicknamed Walter Reed, who makes the Terminator look like a pansy. The Nightshade agents continue to use and hone their 'unique' abilities during their investigation, but Donovan's cover is threatened when he encounters his own kind, and Eleri's powers become more frightening and uncontrollable by the hour.
And the clock is ticking.
Will the agents be able to stop the most deadly attack on U.S. soil since 9/11? Grab a copy and find out!
The main characters are anomalies, initially normal human specimens, but so much more. If their differences had been part of the blurb, I would never have read these books, this is my second and I am fully hooked. The matter of fact way in which their skill sets work, whether through being 'doubled jointed' or having 'weird dreams' makes sense and therefore their abilities acceptable on some level. The concept is unique in its perception, and makes these tales very moreish. Eleri, a product of old money and arcadian grisgris and Donovan, the product of a drunken, homicidal father from old superstitious beliefs are a strange match, but have a unique understanding of each others strengths & weaknesses. This time, a terrorist plot involving individual cells who are unaware of the others existence are led to believe they are righting wrongs on US soil. Going back to an arms smuggling racket, by US soldiers whilst in the Middle East. Within both the terrorist group and the FBI offshoot, which Eleri & Donovan work the infrastructure is all important. Especially when only the two principals and their boss, have the full picture and are aware of the ultimate permit only they have. Read & enjoy as I did, it's different, but oddly normal.
Eleri and Donovan are back! Nightshade’s newest agents are in LA to bring down a burgeoning terrorist cell. They have been informed that they are now a team, a team that is written outside the lines but an approved team non – the less with their own Federal ID’s. They have been assigned a complicated case and it will take all of their powers, and talents, and especially those talents not talked about. The way A.J. Scudiere writes is captivating from the beginning and you just want to keep reading and reading and not stop. It is both descriptive and has great world building (important for a fantasy, but is this fantasy?) but also is interesting and has a the layers of mystery/suspense, you can tell there's always more to the story than A.J. is letting us know. I would like to highly recommend this novel to those who desiring a good. A read that has a little murder and mayhem. A read that you just want to read for the joy of it. A read for finding out the “who done it”.
What another grand story in Fracture Five by A.J. Scudiere. This is the second book in the NightShade Forensic Files. I love this author's work, and this series. It's a unique forensic and FBI story. NightShade is a division of the FBI that handles certain cases. Terror and terrorists, and Eleri and Donovan are still newbies of the NightShade. There is a lot going on, and it's a perfect pace for the investigations into the terrorist cell, and now, something else is looming. I am a huge fan of this author! It’s definitely un-put-downable! A definite attention grabber, so much I couldn't put it down. This story was very unpredictable. I just love, love, love this story. Fracture Five is a definite recommendation by Amy's Bookshelf Reviews. I read this book and give my honest and unbiased review. Amy's Bookshelf Reviews recommends that anyone who reads this book, to also write a review. I hope to read more books by this author.
Pg 13 No sex Strong language Action violence - some disturbing, but no more than a TV episode of NCIS or Bones
Special agents Eleri and Donovan, who possess unusual gifts and are therefore part of the FBI's Nightshade division, are called to LA to check out suspicions activities among homeless vets. Soon they find themselves tracking possible terrorists.
Well-done character development. Plot is well developed with believable twists and the right amount of tension. Excellent and respectful explanation of PTSD.
2nd in series. Could be read before reading the first, especially since it contains no spoilers about the first. Better, however if read in order. Recommended
ELERI & DONAVAN CAN SURE EAT, GUESS THEY MUST HAVE TO REPLACE ALL THAT THINKING ENERGY BURNS UP. I FOUND BK#2 IS NOT AS ENJOYABLE AS BK#1 IT WAS KIND OF HARD TO FOLLOW THIS STORYLINE (hummm). I TOTALLY AGREED WITH ELERI “A GOOD SERIAL KILLER”, WOULD BE NICE. I WAS HOPING TO LEARN MORE ABOUT JUST WHAT ARE THEIR CAPABILITIES, WHAT MORE CAN THEY DO (I only got a peek) ? I WISH I HAD A VISUAL NEAR THE ENDING BECAUSE IT BECAME TOOOO CONFUSING (as hell for me) TO READ. THIS NEEDED TO BE A MOVIE!! ;O
Our agents are back and in the City of Angels to bring down a terrorist cell group. In this book there is less paranormal and a whole lot more FBI work. I kept waiting to find another new skill or better yet another new agent to add to Nightshade division - I was wondering if those were really cherry flavored sodas agent Vasques was drinking or some other red colored drink. And she did all her best work at night..... I know its only two books into the series but I really want them to solve the case of Ellery"s missing sister.
I'm glad I found this author! I really enjoy reading her books! Its interesting to read the details from a case and what an Agent/Officer may go thru to get their target person! I loved how there is some paranormal mixed in with the book! Glad Donovan came out alright in the end. I am anxtious to find out what's behind the eyes. That's all I will say on that, but I do encourage people to read this book as well as the series with me! I will definitely recommend this book to others!
I liked this a lot. Eleri and Donovan still make a great team. I liked all the new characters, too, especially Walter Reid. Donovan and Eleri have to stop terrorists who are planning an attack on Los Angeles. They enlist some veterans to help out. Those vets prove invaluable to help solve their case. In this book, we find out more and more about Eleri and Donovan and I liked getting to know them better. I liked the introduction of voodoo and Eleri’s band mere’s Gris-Gris. I’m looking forward to the next book.
I really enjoy reading this series. I think the most entertaining part is Eleri and Donovan’s relationship. Each find themselves learn to work together, accept their differences and trust in each other. Their POV are as fun as their adventures. Plus, Eleri is still a mystery, though we now know how her power works. I never thought I would enjoy paranormal suspense but The NightShade just get me hooked!
DNF. It was really dragging. If there were going to be answers soon I was going to keep reading. But then I looked was only like 40% of the way through. I could not trudge through another 60%. And that's where the whole fracture five thing is first mention. Over 40% of the way into the book. Imagine reading a book where you don't get to the main plot point u til you're 40% into it. Disappointing at best.
The case in this book is not like the case in book one t all. This was a pay attention book becuse you never know what is waiting on the next page!! I welled up with tears when Donovan got hurt..... Like he was real......... thats how great A.J is at bringing these characters to life!! I cant wait to read the 3rd installment.
I chose this rating because this book had the usual forensics which I love. But A.J. made the characters so different. Loved how they made their special gifts so real. I tried to pick out my favorite. I really loved Walter. Her life went on in spite of her disabilities.
This is the second book in a series. The plot is much more involved with ongoing uncertainty about who's good and who's bad. I found it dragged somewhat. It was a relief to reach the end and finally get some answers. The MCs continue to have strong appeal and there are hints of more revelations to come about one of them. I'll be continuing with the series.
Even though i liked the first book a tad better this was still a good read. This time our heroes in Nightshade is taking on terrorist cells in LA and they both get use for their special skills to hunt down and stop them before the damage is done, this is an original and great serie with hints of the supernatural
This book had so much potential and could have been really good but I felt like it went nowhere. It wss very confusing in some spots and incredibly slow in others. The 'supernatural' aspect played a very minor part and felt thrown in here and there. I will not continue on with the series.
Really enjoyed the author's work though all the military aspect was a bit much for me. I love how Eleri and Donavon are progressing in both development as well as in their relationship. Am kinda glad the focus is not them dating as well but each of them having their own outlets. On to the next case!
I thoroughly enjoyed reading the adventures of Eleri and Donovan. A totally different take on CHI exploits. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
I loved the first book and enjoyed this one. The pace, character development and tensions between the principals keep the book moving to a somewhat, but not excessive twist at the end. Looking forward for the next one.
Terrorist cells are planning something big and it will take our dynamic supernatural duo to stop them. We meet new players and find out a secret about El. I am loving this series!! Walter Reed is a bad chick .Really like her.
I found this book 2 not as stimulating as the first. Way too many characters for me to keep up with and I got bored rather quickly. Definitely a disappointment for me considering the first in the series. Granted, opinions are highly subjective.
Terrorists cells how many are there and they are linked by Rollins with a code. Can Eliri and Donovan figure it out. A nation security is at risk, and the tension they are working on his high. Great story. Added by good narration, Given audio for my voluntary review
Great character s. Loved the female disabled vet's transformation. Was very intrigued by the terrorists initial kill method. Amazing but very believable how the main characters stepped up to an intense situation.
Book two of this series was way more engaging for me than book one. The flow of the story and the development was spot on and was so enjoyable with the twists and turns that kept me on the edge to the end.
