Eleri Eames didn’t think she’d ever be allowed to work for the FBI again, so the special FBI division of NightShade seems like an amazing opportunity. But all too soon, her chance to start over starts to disturb her.
When the FBI offers Donovan a chance to leave his job as a medical examiner and try his hand at something new, he takes a chance on the NightShade division. Somehow, he has to try to escape from his shadows, but can he trust Eleri with the truth?
Thrown together on their first case, Eleri and Donovan must deal with a charismatic cult leader and his true-believers. The cult is mixed up with several decade-old kidnapping cases and the missing daughter of a prominent FBI Agent. As Eleri and Donovan dig deeper, they discover that NightShade’s mysteries aren’t coincidence.
Their secrets will save them . . . or destroy them.
Fracture Five - Book 2
NightShade’s newest agents are in L.A. to bring down a burgeoning terrorist cell. To make things worse, it’s not just one terrorist cell, it’s two. Or is it three?
There is little to go on, only links between missing Army munitions and a veteran named Cooper Rollins. With his special ops training and severe PTSD, it's impossible to tell what kind of game Rollins is playing.
Eleri and Donovan will have to use their unique skills to stop the attack before it happens. But in the crowded city, there are too many people who might reveal what Donovan is if he dares to make the change. And Eleri is starting to show signs of powers she didn’t know she had, and can’t control.
On the surface the cells seem unrelated, each with separate perpetrators and different motives. But they are all linked by Rollins and the very disturbing passcode:
“Fracture Five.”
The Atlas Defect - Book 3
Eleri wanted a different kind of case. She should have been careful what she wished for.
When an odd human skeleton in Michigan’s Manistee-Huron National Forest triggers a NightShade investigation, Eleri and Donovan arrive to find it missing. But two other skeletons are a little too easily uncovered—each displays different anomalies that raise alarming questions.
The bones aren’t from the area or probably even the continent. A decades-old abandoned building doesn’t register on satellite images. Files detailing genetic experiments on children are even more disturbing, and most of the children are unaccounted for.
Who were the test subjects and where are the bodies?
If the case itself wasn’t enough of a problem, someone is watching. Someone with a particular interest in Donovan’s own skeletal anomalies . . .
Echo and Ember - Book 4
FBI agents Donovan and Eleri left their last case with a sense of unease. Unable to close the investigation, they've been thrown into their next assignment far too fast. A string of strange arson-based murders are just part of the trouble. Not only is former agent Wade de Gottardi on their team for this one, so are two other NightShade agents: Dana Brantley and Christina Pines. The problem is, Eleri is no longer the senior agent, Dana is.
Maybe their boss no longer trusts them, or maybe it s simply because four people have already died.
I enjoyed the series , but wondered why book three did not answer an obvious question of why the army would leave a secret "Dr Mangle" like facility in two states intact , including scientific documents for years. Complete destruction would have been ordered when it was abandoned .
I grabbed this on impulse as I serious needed something new to listen to: I'm very glad I did.
Solid procedural tale underpinned by competent law enforcement personnel at multiple levels, local, State, and Federally. This part by itself being one of the reasons I do enjoyed the story; too often the trope of incompetence in law enforcement gets trotted out with only the heroes showing any real skill
The possibly paranormal aspects are introduced slowly, and with a deft touch. The female lead agent isn't the "standard" ball-busting, manlier than Chuck Norris trope, either.
The investigation believable, complete with believable time lines. I give this 5 across the board because it is such a solid storytelling with all the elements nicely balanced.
Though the books were somewhat far out they were interesting. Did not understand contradictions in books however. Such as in "Fracture Five" Donovan is drinking beer every time he's 'home'. In "The Atlas Defect" he is drinking rum and coke because he hates the smell of beer going so far as to say it tastes like horse p...! There were others I don't specifically remember but I can't help but wonder why the stories had these odd contraindications.
The entire Nightshade series is one of the best. AJ Scudiere has produced a science fiction fantasy that coordinates parapsychology with the real world in an almost seemless manner, creating a strong sense that the reality of the tale is consistent with the reality of my world.
Kerri and Donovan are the best partner . I enjoyed the books. The stories are very good. There are a lot of spelling and grammatical errors. However, I still enjoyed these books.
I thoroughly enjoyed the first two books. However, by the middle of the third book, I was really tempted to give it up as a bad deal. For some bewildering reason, the author decided to insert so many s%#t's and f@*k's into the dialog and the book in general that I found it hard to keep reading. I only made it a few pages into book four before giving up. I really liked these characters, and the subject matter was very engaging, and I felt cheated out of a good read because the foul language got extremely annoying. It was almost as if a different author wrote books three and four & decided to go for some sort of shock factor. I worked for years with teens whose every other word consisted of four letters. I don't want that in the books I read for enjoyment. I read a preview of the next volume and sadly realized the language change appears to be permanent. I will not be purchasing it, and I'll be deleting the first volume from my Kindle library. I did so want to find out what happened to Eleri's sister. I really dislike having to throw money down the drain like that, but there are other good series out there that have kept their language out of the gutter. I would recommend this series as it is now to anyone who likes Stephen King. I don't. And I'm sorry for the negative review.
Absolutely brilliant! I love this series! The author takes werewolves and witches and other gifted persons and explains their abilities in scientific terms. I've never seen another series quite like this one. The ideas are really unique. The novels are extremely character driven, which I love. The characters are well-developed and memorable. The plots have plenty of suspense and keep you guessing what will happen, but it's all based on real FBI procedures and the author keeps it all believable. I highly recommend this series to anyone with a Sci-Fi/Fantasy interest and even to those who just like Suspense.
Like Mulder and Scully in X files meets criminal minds with a supernatural twist. I actually like the first two books better than these last two books because there weren't as many characters and I really like Donovan and Eleri bantering back and forth and the other characters just kind of spoil that. I really didn't care for both of them coupling up with outside characters just for those outside characters to get drawn into the group as well. It's a little bit too cheesy for me but I'll still probably finish the series.
Was looking for something different and this is it. I love the characters and how they evolve and grow so that you become invested in them. The plots are carefully and slowly rolled out to keep you guessing and trying to see how the characters will solve the case. Enjoyed how you learn more about the characters as the plots unfold and add other characters into the story in a way that works but isn’t too obvious.
I am hooked! This author certainly knows how to keep you on the edge of your seat. I have just finished reading the first four books and I loved every minute. The characters and their abilities are so well thought out and it’s so refreshing that Eleri and Donovan have a strong bond as partners/friends and they have their own romantic interests. A.J. Scudiere is keeping me entertained through a very trying time and I cannot thank her enough!
I am so often disappointed in the free Kindle books that I almost didn't get this one. I am certainly glad I did. Good story line, just enough action without being ridiculous, and NOT a great deal of profanity, and no explicit sex. I loved It! I will be watching for more from this author.
If you enjoy Heather Graham's Krewe of Hunters novels, you'll be blown away by the Nightshade series. An outstanding combination of FBI & forensic investigations with a paranormal twist based in current genetic research! I hope for many more in this unique & addictive series.
Ok, so I got the first book free. Loved it and bought this 4 book boxset. I loved every book in the boxset. Really good mysteries, with detailed sleuthing. Throw in a little paranormal powers in the Nightshade agents, and this was an uber interesting read. I like the main character, Eleri. Looking forward to seeing how her powers grow.
On the whole these books are a great read There are just a few storyline and character inconsistencies from one book to another that can grate on the readers nerves. Little things the author should have picked up on that do impact the story slightly. You may not notice if you aren't reading the books on close succession but as I'm doing back to back they were blaringly obvious errors.
A unique twist to ancient and modern evil and how one of the most well-known law enforcement agencies might deal with it. Well written, enjoyed Eleri and Donovan's challenges a d perspectives on two very different lives and learning to become partners. Excellent read. Can't wait for more.
Normally i love a first book in a series but subsequent books fall flat. Not so with the Nightshade Forensic FBI files. The writing is top notch and the characters are wonderful. I love the way she adds people to the fold organically. I would love to see it as a TV show. Eleri and Donovan are my new favorite duo! Do yourself a favor and dig in.
I don't usually read this kind of book but I have to say I really enjoyed this series and was disappointed to finish the last book beca6there wasn't another. Thank you for broadening my reading scope
OMG. What a wild ride these books are! I wanted to sit and read them all straight through but found I absolutely had to stop from time to time to think about what I had been reading. Can't wait for book 5 to be released!
I love this series and will definitely be reading more. Each book could be read as a stand alone, but I highly recommend reading them all. I want to be a NightShade Agent!
So many bad people, so little time. Lots of violence with a smattering of romance that eventually creeps in. Science and the supernatural mixed together so what's not to like?
Wonderful combination of science, fantasy, and criminal justice. Like the Avengers, each member of the team has special gifts which they use in solving cases. Blends so naturally I found myself accepting the plots as entirely plausible. Nonstop action, too
Absolutely fabulous series. You absolutely have to read until the end because it consumes you to find out what's next and when you finish your in just as big a hurry to read the next book.
From book 1 to book 4 there is non stop happening. I like how there background about the main characters. One minute you scare next crying and sometimes even laughing. Sometimes there dull part to the story. But if you like witch, werewolf etc enjoys
Fantastic series, I read the series non stop. I would recommend this series to my friends and family. The characters are amazing. The story line keeps you in suspense.
I can't wait for the next series it should be as well written as the 11st series.
Superb, brilliant, absorbing. Has you thinking about what is there that we don't know about, or is it a case of being afraid to acknowledge it. Totally enthralled by the characters, their abilities and their humanity. Can't wait to start the next batch.
The first two books were great! Once you got to the next one, it just seems to repeat the same plot and everything over and over. I felt like I was reading the first two books again.
These books are amazing and I can't get enough. The duo has become many more. The character connections are beyond addicting. The witch and wolf have amazing history, the FBI has gained so much depth, the cases will leave you guessing.
These books are edge of the seat suspense FBI procedurals with supernatural agents operating in the real world where totally crazy stuff can only be solved by them. I couldn’t put it down
I really enjoyed this series. It was a lot of fun having a little paranormal added to the adventures and mysteries of the characters portrayed. Lots of twists and turns that keep you turning pages. Unfortunately each book is quite short, so you have to keep on reading the series to stay engaged.
