This book started off slow and then it took a turn I did not see coming! The way the demon is described is amazing and frankly this book really teaches the lesson to not let your greed and desire for more rule your life to a point where you make a mistake you can’t take back.

This was a thrilling read and definitely made me think about how they could have possibly prevented what had happened to their family.

Wow! This was a great book!

A deal with the devil lasts far past your life here, it's a curse for generations to come.
The Lemp family is destined for great things after that deal is made, but at what cost?
This story keeps you hooked, chapter by chapter, deeper into their lives, as Mr.Lemps deal is carried out. From the pits of despair, to the man of the hour, back to nothingness. My favorite part is the fact to fiction ratio.
You cannot find the line of which is which, so you take it all for fact.. the timeline is so well laid out and the characters so well written, it's a if you're part of the family, living the nightmare. Another masterpiece, by such a wonderful author.

This book is a fantastic read that will grab you from the moment that you start reading. It is a fantastic read that has everything needed to make an awesome read. It moves along at the perfect speed for the flow of the story, speeding up and slowing down when necessary. The characters are so real that you feel as though you know them and you are there for them. The story will grab you and keep you needing more. You cant put it down until you finish the last page and then you need more, This book is a must read, you will not be sorry that you did.

An engrossing page turner. It'll have you hooked from the beginning. It's a gripping story that doesn't disappoint. You'll be taken on a journey over the years of what the Lemp family endured and encountered. Supernatural context with a trail of unfortunate circumstances with deals made that come with a steep price. Absolutely loved reading and I'd recommend this book.

Dark Spirits by Candace Adams is thrilling read. Based on the true events surrounding the Lemp Family this story makes you think about all things supernatural and leads you to question just how many other 'successes' are due to demonic deals. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and Candace has done brilliantly with this book. Highly recommended.

I COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN!!!!! I NEED MORE ABE!!!!

Take a walk through the times before Prohibition as a young immigrant begins to learn how to make his fortune in America using the trade his father had taught him.

Arriving in St. Louis, Missouri on a train named Abdullah, a young Adam Lemp is a German immigrant just coming to America in the 1800s. Missouri has become a prosperous state in its own right and Adam can see that he can make his future here. Upon his arrival, he meets Todd who shows him the town, helps him get a meal and a room at the local boarding house. Adam secures a job as a grocery clerk and works himself up to running the store himself. When the store is left to Adam, he renames it with his family name, and now lives above the grocery store, yet he’s still unhappy. He had gotten an idea from Todd years ago that he should teach the growing area how to brew a proper lager, and that had been what his goal was, to brew a lager beer so delicious that everyone would want it.

One night, while Adam ponders why he has not yet made his fortune, he gets visited by a specter as he calls it. This being makes Adam the deal of a lifetime and agrees to help him make his fortune in the beer industry the way he desires. Adam accepts, but does not realize the price that the Lemp Family bloodline will pay in the end. What fortune or misfortune lays ahead for the Lemp Family?
Abe is a demon who spends his eternity making deals with only those who already have darkness in their souls. Upon his visit with Adam, who only perceives him as a specter for the moment, he makes a deal that will keep him in souls for a few years. Abe is always there at Adam’s most prosperous moments, and usually has had some hand in making them happen just the way Adam wants. He explained to Adam all of the details of their arrangement and yet Adam’s greed knows no limits. Only Abe knows what will befall the Lemp Family and its fortune.

I can’t choose a favorite part of the book. I loved every moment of it. I always recommend it any time I hear someone who likes the historical fiction genre when it meets paranormal fiction.

I both loved and loathed this book. I loved the history and historical accuracy that this book portrays. The research Candace Adams put into writing this is obvious and I really enjoyed reading that part of it. I also loved the idea of the cursed lineage that she takes with the Lemp family. It's an interesting idea and I enjoyed how she used historical facts to build her fiction.

However, she couldn't get around the reality of the history. This is a book about a lot of people you will really dislike and maybe three you will like. I honestly wanted the bad things to happen to most of the people we meet because they were just that despicable. Curse or no, they deserved it.

It took me a while to decide what I wanted to rate this book because I honestly couldn't figure out where I landed feelings wise. It's written well, the history is good, but the characters are meh. Take that as you will.

One man's lust for the American success story drowns the next couple of generations in hellfire and damnation.

Based on the true events of a family legacy, it's clear that Candace put in a lot of research and effort to ensure that the story was historically factual. This caused, at times, the book to read as more of a history book than a novel.

There were also many characters to be hopped around and I didn't develop any attachment to them. in fact, many of them, it was like oh, you died? Took longer than it should have. To be honest, the characters didn't matter and the demon was almost, annoying?

The writing is solid, the dedication to being historically accurate evident, and that it is based on a family's legacy in real life fascinating, it just didn't hold my interest.

This is the first book I have read from this author. When I found out what this book was about, I had to read it. Growing up close to St. Louis, MO we all knew about the stories of the life and times of the Lemp Family. This book did not disappoint. Loosely taking the stories from the Lemp family showing that things you do now will follow your family for generation after generation. What are the repercussions to your family if you make a deal with the devil? Knowing the stories of this family and being around the places that they lived and died I love the way she wove the story around the facts making this story her own. I recommend this book to everyone. You will not be disappointed. Cannot wait until the next read from this author.

Candace Adams has once again left me on the edge of my seat until I completed this book. The telling of the Lemp Family history is one that Candace was able to make come alive in this amazing dark horror novel. To read along as the demon tortured each and every member of the family, all while making sure that the others knew of the happenings so that it would bring them anguish as well was definitely attention getting. I struggled to put the book down even when I needed to be doing something else. And then there were the surprise twists at the end that I wouldn't have expected to see coming. Candace, Keep rocking out these amazing books Please.

Captivating novel that leaves you wanting more

William Lemp accidentally makes a deal with a demon and curses his entire family to damnation. I found the fact that one person making a deal cursed an entire family who had nothing to do with the bargain rather unfair, but I guess that’s why this is a tragedy. I thoroughly enjoyed the way you followed all the different family members stories as if they were all the main character. I loved all the beer quotes at the beginning of the chapters. My only complaint is the ending. I felt like I went on a long journey to be disappointed with the outcome. But otherwise this was a great read.

If you make a deal with the devil, it's always wise to check the fine print! A family curse is started and the story goes through generations who have to deal with the consequences. As this story is based on true events, it gives an extra dimension, and adds to an already enjoyable story. The narrator does a good job in bringing the story alive too.

Well, I don’t know what to say about this book! I absolutely love these stories based on real people and historical facts and candace did not disappoint! The characters are really brought back to life, you love them and hate them, empathise with them, want to kill them off and then don’t!
It’s one of those books that had me googling people and places and trying to find out the real history behind it all, it wouldn’t have taken me so long to read if I hadn’t spent so long on Google!
The Lemp story is a tragic one with a quick rise to fame and fortune and the just as quickly losing it all. The demon adds in an interesting side to it all and I loved working out the twists and almost shouting at the characters with the answers!
An excellent story written by a fantastically twisted mind to give it a phenomenal edge! I highly recommend this book!
