THESE TWO CONCEPT books, Shapes and Counting feature easy-to-use flip-up mechanisms that enhance each concept being taught. Shapes will feature a shape (and its name) on the flip-up mechanism and more items in the same shape on the base page. Counting features a number on the flip-up mechanism, with same number depicted as items on the base page (such as three puppies on the “three” page). This clever design is effective as both a teaching tool and also reinforced as a guessing game.
In all, each book features a total of 12 flip-ups, one on each page, including the covers.
I love that this book is interactive and allows children to reveal the shapes depicted in the illustrations. However, I was not thrilled with a couple of the shape choices. I did not think arches and arrows were good shapes to include for children who are beginning to learn about shapes.
