KU Review

Good blend of apocalypse and portal fantasy. Great development of gritty and tortured mc. Look forward to see how the side characters evolve.

As the title says this is a review for Kindle Unlimited and as such is a reflection of my enjoyment of the book and in no way reflects cost to value analysis.

Awesomeness

Fantastic start to a new series hooked from the start, liams story is a different take on the zero to hero path what if you were already the strongest fastest most agile person but with a scared past and thrust into a new epic fight for survival could you become a superhero and beat the hands of fate to change humanitys destiny, read this to find out.

Good story, odd writing

If I had to guess I'd say the authors first language isn't English. They clearly have a good story in mind but the work is marred by a lot of malapropisms and clumsy usages. For example 'a 360 degree angle'. Does this mean swept in a circle or held in place? Either could be construed. Elsewhere we have the usual modern misconstructions: shined rather than shone as the past tense, I'm still waiting for normalcy in the place of normality, but I'm sure it'll be along soon. The characters are sufficiently engaging to reward perseverance, but the language usage makes it more of a struggle than it need be. Hence only 3 stars.

Good start to a new series

Great start to a series with a unique and very cool idea on why the protagonist is more powerful than average. Very much looking forward to the next book

Amazing

Slow development but strong storyline. An overpowered MC realizes the tutorial is a death zone and focuses on stat development while staying low leveled.

Fantastic start.

Great blend of cultivation and litrpg, with a fun personalized system to everyone. There are some moments that seem unnecessary for the story, like some POVs and backstory sections but overall this is very good.

Apocalypse, RPG, Wuxia

Some aspects of cultivation, transport of humanity to another world. The main characters darkness and depression ring authentic. His progression is well done. Great book 1

Good Story

I enjoyed the story and the development.
The MC is well fleshed out. The story is folding out in interesting ways so looking forward to the next book.

Good bones

Got some good bones here, im guessing the author is esl or it has been translated it definitely needs a editing pass with a focus on Word usage. Often uses five words where two would do. Or one where three are needed. Monosyllabic characters abound

Other than that not a terrible first entry.

Good read

The books alright, the story is one you see. often in the genre, the personality of the character are okay and you see growth from all all characters.

It seemed like this story wasn't sure what it wanted to be. Either that or it is going to take too long to get the party started, so I'm out at the 25% mark.

Character - 4/10, Plot - ?/10, Game Mechanics/Setting - ?/10, Writing - 4/10, Enjoyment - 1/10

There's really not a lot to say about each category individually. Even though the 90ish pages I read were mostly a series of info dumps, I felt like nothing really happened and I don't think most of the info that was dumped will actually matter much. We're going to have another OP character, but this time there's a 'tragic' backstory that's basically the beginning of Elfen Lied, but without the tiddies, to explain why the MC is Cursed With Awesome.

The writing was a bit clunky and rough with a lot of grammar issues like subject/verb disagreement. The author also couldn't seem to decide whether they wanted to write in 3rd person omniscient or limited. It made the random descriptions of pupils dilating and eyes vibrating feel even more out of place.

It's often the case that writers need to warm up and write their way to the story. After getting in the groove and writing some quality bits, they can go back and delete the warmup fluff. I feel like 90 pages in, this story hasn't gotten past the fluff.

There just wasn't anything here for me to grab onto to keep me reading.

couldn’t finish

This book is not the worst I’ve read, but it’s pretty bad.

The prose is awkward at times. There is little character development. LITRPG elements are extremely week, and poorly thought out. It seems like the author is just making things up as he goes along. The character has the same philosophical discussions with himself over and over again, while in the middle of life of death fights. There’s a lot more. Definitely not a 5-star book.

Starts out OK, but just slowly goes down hill. The MC starts out mysteriously OP and just gets more so. Combat segments are poorly written, often with the action and outcome in reverse chronological order.
MC is OP but still gets saved by Deus Ex Machina dozens of times. Sometimes multiple times in a fight.
There's inconsistencies, such as all languages being translated, but a group named in a foreign language stays the same.

This has several grandiose ideas.

It needs some polish, a lot of polish, some rework and then polish, yeah that last one. The grammar is weak in general. The writing is hard to follow, the way pronouns are used makes keeping track of characters very difficult. The character development is just badly done. There is a good framework here, but it need more work.

reserve judgment

I’m not sure but something about this book kept it from being really enjoyable for me. The book was pretty long but I feel that it was rushed. Also I’m not sure if I missed it but the leveling and stats choices are mind boggling. Minor spoiler!!!! Why does the MC refuse to level up!!!!!

Sorry but not

This hit all of my buttons about why I disliked this book from a mopey mc to a whiny mc who cried it's so unfair!! Really? Don't know who the writer is but I bet he or she is a younger generation!!

Writing can be hard to read

Decent story but the first few chapters were a real slog and the way sentences are formatted feels different from the norm. Either the author hasn't read other books or is trying to use a different writing method.

Not good

Didn't like the characters, the world, or the meta. Trying too hard to create sympathy led to disgust. Time and viewpoint shifts made the story unreadable. Bleh. Need to read Cradle or Mother of Learning to get rid of the bad taste.

DNF 10% I’m pretty certain this was written by someone whose first language was not English. I couldn’t get past the weird, clunky language, even with Michael David Axtell’s narration helping it along. I honestly do not understand the high reviews on this one.

I really tried

I think the issue is the translation... past and present tense is confusing, honestly trying to explain all the issues would take way to much time. I don't think the author has any idea where he is taking the story.. all the females are rape bait, all the guys are instantly rapist if the don't agree with the MCs way of thinking. The thought of all the loot left to rot in a survival situation.. if a spear hitting with the force of a freight train can't get through a creature's hide and said hide is made in to a shirt how the hell does the mc have his ripped when he trips. I'm pretty sure the author is a desk jokey from a urban setting.. the book was just frustrating

Too depressing. Reading is supposed to be fun, not feeling horror because of children being horribly abused.
