Their reunion left a lot to be desired. Are they a disaster in the making or totally meant to be?
I kicked love to the curb for the greater good. After all, my soaring career would’ve made my family so proud, and men have a tendency to stop success cold. But I never expected a single and sexy police officer to pull me over, flirt with me, and then write me a ticket.
Now I see the infuriating cop everywhere I go. It doesn’t help that we have a past, and he’s an amazing dad to his daughter. And every time I want to get back to my small-town routine, I can only think about what my life would be like with the no-nonsense policeman…
I should really just forget the whole thing. But if I do, will I lose my last chance at love?
Cop An Attitude is the charming first book in the I Can’t Stop Loving You romantic comedy series. If you like engaging characters, enemies to lovers, and laughing out loud, then you’ll adore Hilary Grossman’s humorous walk on the wild side.

Hilary Grossman is a recovering corporate executive. She spends her mornings and weekends hanging out with her "characters." She has an unhealthy addiction to denim and high heel shoes. She’s been known to walk into walls and fall up stairs. She only eats spicy foods and is obsessed with her cat, Lucy. She loves to find humor in everyday life. She likens life to a game of dodge ball - she tries to keep many balls in the air before they smack her in the face. She lives on the beach in Long Island.
Calling this a romantic comedy is a little misleading in my opinion because it didn’t feel anything like a romantic comedy. I’m honestly not really a fan of this one. It just felt like a lot of back and forth constantly. They both can get annoying at some points. I wished that things would’ve move a bit faster. I really didn’t like when Waverly kissed her friends husband just to make Pete jealous. Waverly and Pete relationship was very weird. One minute they liked each other and then the next it was like they didn’t. Sure they may have known each other as kids but now they have no idea who they are anymore yet they just jump right into a relationship.
*thank you to netgalley for the arc in exchange for an honest review*
I just finished a sweet love story by Hilary Grossman and it was Cop an Attitude. If you are looking for a cute book that will take you away from the normal grind and give you something else to think about, this book will do the trick. If you read Forest River PTA Mom’s Series by this author and enjoyed the fun, hang on because you will recognize at least one character returning to this series. This is the first book in the I Can’t Stop Loving You Story series.
I read Cop an Attitude when it was a novella in an anthology by several authors. I wrote to Ms. Grossman and expressed how much I enjoyed the novella and wished she would expand it into a novel. I wasn’t quite ready for the book to end. Well, it turns out I was not the only one to encourage her to do that and she indeed turned her novella into a full length novel. She has seamlessly inserted Peter’s side of the story. It was not choppy at all and the writing flowed effortlessly. I have to say if I read this novel first, I would never have known about it earlier life.
This is a love/hate relationship between a man and woman that actually knew each other in elementary school. As most of us do, they went their separate ways after graduation from High School. They meet again as adults. He is a police officer and she is a hard working woman coming home from the office late at night. He stops her and detains her for an extended time and as you can guess their relationship is off to a rocky start. I loved the attraction they had for one another and kept hoping someone would get it together.
This book is not a serious book and I don’t think it was meant to be. It was created to bring a little joy into our hectic lives and give us something different than the same old grind to think about for a while. Waverly and Pete’s relationship is fun and I’m looking forward to where this series is headed next. Cop a Plea is the next book to be released on July 25th (maybe earlier). I don’t know about you but, I’m looking forward to reading more of this series!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
If you’re a fan of enemies-to-lovers RomComs (and who isn’t?), Cop an Attitude is a must-read!
This book grabbed me on the first page where the silly PJs-wearing heroine runs afoul of a cute cop who pulls her over for driving eight miles over the speed limit late at night. Although Waverly has no idea who Pete is, he recognizes her from their school days and those memories are not happy ones. He assumes she’s still a self-entitled mean girl and she doesn’t understand what his problem is, so they lock horns. Repeatedly. All over town. And they refuse to admit that their animosity might be a smokescreen for something else.
The author sets up some formidable challenges for Waverly and Pete to overcome in the form of their shared past, as well as in their relationships since then, but their chemistry is hard to deny. It was nice to see these characters grow and learn from their mistakes over the course of this book, which included some great messages about making positive changes, forgiving yourself as well as others, and letting go of the past.
One of my favorite things about this book was the dialogue. The banter between the leads was terrific as was the girl talk Waverly had with her two besties who continually called her on her stuff and tried to steer her in the right direction. And Waverly’s snarky inner dialogue provided me with lots of chuckles, not to mention some full-on belly laughs.
The ending of Cop an Attitude was very swoony, and I can’t wait to see what the author has planned for Pete and Waverly in the next installment of the series!
I thoroughly enjoyed Cop an Attitude. As promised, it was 'unlawfully funny'. I loved Whitney who evolved from a thoughtless little girl to a caring and empathetic woman. Can anyone look back on their early days and not have done or said something they regret? Pete was a bit tougher to like but I felt that finally getting together was beneficial for them both.
This was not my first book by this author and it won't be my last. I'm looking forward to the sequel!!
Things I liked: - Dual POV- major plus for me. Both characters are solid! - Police officer - I liked that Pete is a LEO. It gave this story something different from other rom coms I’ve read. - The style of writing. It’s well written and flows smoothly.
Things I didn’t like: - The format of the text conversations was confusing. It had time stamps but not the name of who was talking. - Waverly kisses her friend’s husband on the mouth to make Pete jealous. Excuse me- in what universe is this acceptable behavior???? - Waverly and Pete’s journey together was lacking for me. I wanted more interactions/friendship/relationship between them. It felt a little like they didn’t know eachother at all straight to in love and I wanted more in between.
Final thoughts- I flew through this book. It was an easy read that was cute. I’m not sure that I would classify it as a rom com- as some of the content feels serious (see TW)- however there were funny moments throughout that gave the story a light feel to it.. Overall- a quick read. The story had a lot of potential, but I felt like it was missing something.
trigger warnings: cancer mentioned; loss of spouse mentioned;
Thank you to NetGalley and Hilary Grossman for the advanced copy for review.
They had a past before as she went on to do what her parents wanted of her. He is a single father and a policeman who seems to be around all the time now. She finds herself wondering if he could be the one although things have not been good when they had meet. Is this a romance in making? Will she turn her back on him? How will he deal with her coming back into his life? See how they get on

In Cop An Attitude, the first book of the I Can't Stop Loving You series, the reader is transported to Pebble Cove, NY, for a humorous enemies to lovers romantic comedy that leave will you in stitches.
Waverly Ensworth is head of IT for Delectable Edibles, a specialty food distributor. Her job is her entire life, she's a workaholic and stress junkie.
Pete Ennis is a cop with the Pebble Cove Police Department. He is a widower with a four year old daughter, Clara. His wife Caroline died two years ago from breast cancer, and as he grieves for her, he tries to move forward and take care of their daughter.
After working late launching a new computer system, Waverly is stopped at 3am on a deserted road not far from home for doing 38 mph in a 3 mph zone, are you kidding me! Waverly is furious that Officer Pete Ennis is taking his sweet time with the prolonged traffic stop, she doesn't realize that Pete has recognized her from childhood, and is exacting a little revenge for the misery she caused him when they were kids. Waverly was a popular girl back then, and she was a mean girl who bullied the nerdy Pete unmercifully, making him a social outcast. What ensues is a hilarious unexpected enemies to lovers story that follows how Waverly and Pete get a second chance at love.
Cop An Attitude is a humorous romantic comedy that explores the enemies to lovers relationship between Waverly Ensworth and Pete Ennis. This was such a fun story, you can't help but lose yourself in the drama and hilarious antics that follow Waverly and Pete when they keep running into each other, and how they have to deal with their past when they both start to have unexpected feelings for each other. This entertaining story is full of humor, drama and angsty moments that will the reader engaged as Waverly and Pete figure out how to move from old enemies to friends with a second chance at finding love.
I can't wait to read Cop A Plea, the second book in the I Can't Stop Loving You series. In that book, Waverly and Pete's story continues with new developments in their relationship!
Cop An Attitude is a wonderful story of family, friendships, second chance at love, and the ability to make it through anything that life throws at you along the way.
It’s an enemies to lover, police romance, and slow burn.
I went into this book blind and it grabbed me from the first chapter. This had the potential of being 5 stars from me from the start. I really liked where it was going at first. Then both MC got a little bit annoying and I didn’t know how I was feeling, and I got a little nervous and thought it was going off the rails. I think the point was to have them this way but at some points I just didn’t flat out like either of them. It ended up getting back on track and ultimately I did enjoy it over. It ends as an HEA, but has a second book coming with the same MC. You can finish at the epilogue and be fine not to read the second book.
I feel like my rating was all over the place but I am calling it a 3.5 for me rounded up to 4 because I did like the story overall and I would like to read the second book.
Melli’s Book Breakdown 🤍enemies to lover 🤍police romance 🤍single parent Romance 🤍small town romance 🤍slow burn 🤍clean romance
Waverly is the type of person who is constantly on go mode. She works hard and doesn’t expect that success will come easy, which means long hours at the office, putting any kind of social life and romance on the backburner. In fact, the idea of romance completely puts her off, considering her past. She seems content with continually trying to live her best life, the way she wants to live it, period.
Pete has dealt with heartbreak of his own. It was apparent that he felt most comfortable when he knew he could put his guard up, an easier thing to do considering his single father status. His daughter means the world to him, consistently putting her first–which only aids in keeping people away. In his opinion, no one will ever be good enough for her.
After a chance meeting, neither Waverly nor Pete can get one another out of each other’s minds, no matter what they do or what they try. It doesn’t help that the two characters know each other from childhood, and from what Pete can remember, Waverly hadn’t been kind to him, making his elementary school years a living hell. Pete uses his profession as a police officer to antagonize Waverly, gently towing the line between unprofessionalism and reason, which made me feel irritated with him from time to time considering the prankster mentality he seems to have. While it appears he’s doing it all in the name of payback, I think it goes deeper than that. In an effort to steer clear of Waverly, it’s better to keep her at arm’s length at all cost–no matter how that is achieved.
It was a slow burn scenario. Will they or won’t they? Can they both let go of past hurts in order to see what’s right in front of them? Can Pete forgive Waverly? While the reader gets to discover that, we also get to see the secondary friendships and relationships that aid in Waverly and Pete’s discoveries, like Sydney from Forest River PTA Moms, the previous book series written by Grossman. She is the perfect support system for Waverly. The conversation and dialogue flowed well and effortlessly, often tongue-and-cheek and humorous, particularly when Waverly is angry with Pete, and he won’t let her win. Not ever.
I’ll admit it: when Grossman’s Forest River PTA Moms series ended, I was a bit saddened by the loss of such great characters. When you find a good book series, you never want it to end! Having said that, though, I’m really digging Cop an Attitude, and I’m looking forward to seeing what’s next in the "I Can’t Stop Loving You" series. No doubt about it: this is a five-star experience!
Two former classmates meet again in this fun story filled with witty dialogue and humor.
When Waverly and Pete meet again, it isn’t on the best of terms. In fact, it was late at night when Waverly was headed home after a long day at work. Pete is a police officer and pulls Waverly over for speeding. When he realizes who he has just pulled over, he couldn’t believe it. Waverly gave Pete a nickname, when they in school, that caused lots of people to laugh at him. But he still secretly had a crush on her. Grown up Pete is a widower and has a little girl. Now, he has to make the decision between making a pass at Waverly or keeping his distance, so Clara doesn’t get hurt again, if things don’t work out. Waverly is a workaholic and doesn’t have free time for herself, much less dating. Will Pete and Waverly be able pull off the relationship that so many people know is destined to happen?
This book was so much fun to read. I couldn’t wait to see how Waverly and Pete would end up together. There was a lot of build up to the big moment and even then, I had to wonder if they would stay together. Waverly and Pete’s story does continue in another book, but this book does not end with a cliff hanger. I can’t wait to read about their journey after marriage.
This is my first time reading something by this author and I really enjoyed it. I'm always on the lookout for a good rom com with a hate/love relationship and this one was just what I was looking for! Pete and Waverly had known each other since elementary school and they had a love/hate relationship. They went their separate ways after high school but meet again years later. He is now a cop and she is hard working and has a successful career. Their relationship doesn't necessarily get off on the right foot when she is out late driving and he pulls her over and hands her a ticket for speeding. Now it seems they are constantly bumping into each other. They both prefer to steer clear of each other, but can't stop thinking about one another. I found this to be a thoroughly entertaining and cute story and am glad I had the opportunity to read it.
I received a complimentary copy from Netgalley and am voluntarily leaving my review.
This was a great romcom! Waverly gets pulled over by a sexy cop. She thinks she will be able to get out of a speeding ticket then when the officer asks that she provide her license and registration his whole demeanor changes. It now seems that he is out to make her life miserable and she can’t for the life of her figure out what happened to make him change. He later shows up at her house when a neighbor called in a complaint about her landscapers. He ends up giving her another ticket. Waverly is completely sick of the cop that is out to get her. When she attends her high school reunion he shows up there and she now understands why he has been acting the way that he had. Will the sexy cop, Pete, get over what happens in the past or will he continue to make her life miserable? I was given an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
POV: Dual. Descriptive Sex: No. OW/OM: Yes-ish. Separation: No? Content Warnings: mention of bullying, cancer, death, and cheating. ★★★
Interesting premise that benefited from great writing and logical side characters. I'll be honest... I did not like Waverly or Peter. They pissed me off most of the time, and the other part of the time I felt sympathetic. I actually teared up for Waverly when Peter sent that text. You'll know the text I'm talking about when you read, and I'm sure you'll dislike Peter as much as I did.
This dislike is, of course, a huge issue since the entire book is about them and told from their POVs. Peter is petty and a total ass. Waverly is hotheaded and immature. The side characters, though, were such a treat! Lauren, Sydney, and Nancy were the voices of reason for our bullheaded leads, and I loved it when they tore them a new one after they said or did idiotic things. They said everything that I was internally yelling at them about.
I'd say that Waverly and Peter deserve each other, but I'm not even sure if they do. There were some hints of chemistry and the possibility of me falling for them, but it seems like I'll have to read the rest of the series to see it.
And I will be continuing the series. Not only because of the preview for Cop a Plea ended in a cliffhanger, but because I really enjoyed Hilary Grossman's writing. I felt like I breezed through this. Actually, I did breeze through. I finished in one sitting because I could not put it down. Grossman made me want to continue to see Waverly and Peter's bumpy (and sometimes rage inducing) road to getting together, even if I wasn't a fan of the individually most of the time.
Thank you to NetGalley and Hilary Grossman for providing me this e-arc in exchange for an honest review.
I wouldn't consider this book a comedy. While it was a very entertaining read, I can't think of a single time when I laughed.
Miscategorization aside, it was an enjoying romance with lessons about how trauma can have a big impact on our decisions and approaches to life. I related to the main character's workaholic tendencies and was familiar with the cybersecurity issues she dealt with which appealed to my geeky side.
Things got a little frustrating about halfway through where I just wanted them to make up their mind and figure things out but I am glad I waited as the ending was sweet.
I received a complimentary copy and I am voluntarily reviewing it.
First, I want to say this was a quick read. It almost felt like it was a Novella, and I’m pretty sure it wasn’t supposed to be. Anywho, I liked the initial premise of the story because it had potential, but that was short lived. This story ended up feeling very disjointed to me. It started off fun, but then got silly really FAST (like the situation with the neighbor lodging complaints).
I did like Pete ENNIS 👀😂, but honestly him and Waverly acted like they were in High School most of the time. They came off like bickering children, more than anything else. Waverly got on my nerves pretty quickly. She was completely self absorbed, superficial and all she cared about was how others viewed her. She’s ‘that girl’ that constantly reminds you what a hard worker she is and somehow that magical erases all her bad personality flaws 🙈 The girl had serious anger issues as well, and that was the least of her problems.
I love a good enemies to lovers trope, but immaturity levels where off the charts with these two. I kept having to remind myself these were adult characters. I’m definitely disappointed because right when it seemed like we were getting somewhere (past the childish behavior) the book abruptly ended. They went from hating each other, too kissing, and in love all in one page. I watched this book fall straight off a cliff at full speed. I honestly checked my kindle thinking I was missing the second part of the book, that’s how steep the cliff was that this fell off of 😂 The ending was so rushed and didn’t match the pace of the beginning at all, not even close. It just didn’t work for me. I honestly believe I would have enjoyed this story so much more if the ending wasn’t crazy rushed out like that. Thank you to Netgalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Do you like enemies to lovers? Do you like fast love? This book is for you! Cop an Attitude is the 2nd book in the I Can't Stop Loving You series. In this 2nd book, we look to Officer Ennis, Peter, and his life as a widower.
Peter makes a traffic stop in the early hours of the morning and everything was normal, until he looks at the woman's driver's license and he is brought back to his childhood and the cruel nickname she started.
We get dual POV in this book, Peter and Waverly. They may have had a rocky past, but can they get past that and their current situations to give a relationship a try?
I wish there was a little more interaction between Pete and Waverly before they state their love for each other. Pete did open up on the car ride home from the reunion but a lot of the deeper parts of Waverly were given as pieces of information from her friends to help him understand her more. Yes, they went to school together, but that was so long ago and Waverly is always talking about how she has changed since then so they don't know a ton about each other when they say "I love you."
I don't understand the issues with Pete's mom and why she is so against Pete going into any relationship and Waverly's mom also mentioned that she was a piece of work from when they were in school. Perhaps that is going to be explained in the next book Cop a Plea?
I also wish we saw more of Officer Alex Rinaldi and Randi from the first book. Alex does make an appearance in this book but not as much as I liked and it is mentioned that he and Randi just had twins. Pete also gave Alex relationship advice in the first book, I think it would have been nice for Alex to turnaround and give Pete some advice in this book.
I am happy that the next book continues Pete and Waverly's story.

**Thank you NetGalley and Xpresso Book Tours for a copy of this ARC. This is my honest review.**
Cop An Attitude is a very quick read. Admittedly, I didn't love nor hate this book. It follows two 38-year olds who had a history from their childhood that was less than ideal that meet again as adults and have to navigate feelings for each other, concerns over past behaviour and face their own traumas. Whilst that sounds quite heavy, the book is written to be more light-hearted and funny, which is probably why I didn't quite enjoy this. I often found the actions of both Waverly and Pete (Waverly especially) to be far too petty and childish for their age and had a difficult time placing them in my mind whilst reading. For some time, I could only depict college-aged people and was surprised when their age came to light. I also couldn't understand how deeply they fell for the other when most of the book is written about them struggling with said feelings without really any building scenes that helped those feelings grow.
I did enjoy the side characters, especially Sydney, who remained a grounding force for Waverly throughout this book. Some moments were quite funny as well, whilst others felt a little too unrealistic for me given their stages in life. I'm a mid-30s person myself, so I was initially eager for some age representation in novels that I don't normally come across. It didn't quite deliver. The romance was clean, and again, could have done with a little more attention to help the feelings they developed feel real.
Overall, it was a good attempt by the author, and I could see the potential of the world Hilary Grossman created.
Unfortunately, this book started proimising and ended in the trash. It was a solid 4*star read, and then the last 40-30% annoyed me so much that I can't help myself, but give her 2* maximum (I even had a debate with my inner voice, if it even deserves 2*).
"Cop an attitude" is supposedly a romantic comedy between a policemen and a corporate girl. However, there is nothing romantic, or even remotely funny in the whole book. There were literally no scenes of romance, and the only time the main characters got together was by the end of the book. Through the rest of the time it was always pushing and pulling.
So plot wise, I didn't enjoy it. I did like the writing tho, and I think it was he only good thing that is in the book.
Characters:
Waverly - I hated that heroine. She was a workholic, a bitch and a know-all. What I hated the most was that she was gaslighing the hero, and was mean to him through every meeting.
Pete - I liked him more than the heroine, but he wasn't standing out in any way, so there was nothing really I could love about him. What annoyed me, was that through the whole book he was made to look like a bad guy, but I don't think he ever did something wrong.
Overall, this is not a rom-com in any sense, and I wouldn't recommend it as such.
I would like to start by thanking NetGalley and Hilary Grossman for the ARC of “Cop an Attitude.”
“Cop an Attitude” was a fun, flirty, fast read! It follows the story of two adults in their 30’s, Pete and Waverly, as they try to navigate a relationship after having somewhat of a problematic past.
The beginning of this book was somewhat on the slower side, but as we got to see more of Waverly and Pete’s personality, it seemed to pick-up pace!
When I finished reading “Cop an Attitude,” I was a little upset with how it ended. I felt like we didn’t get to see as much of Waverly and Pete’s new family dynamic! The ending kind of felt rushed. BUT…….I was super excited to hear that there is a sequel “Cop a Plea,” and I am pumped to read it! I can’t wait to get to see more of the inner workings of the Ennis family!
I haven’t read any of Grossman’s past work, so I was thrilled to read this! “Cop an Attitude,” is perfect for readers who aren’t super into spicy books, this is definitely more of a fade-to-black read. CAA is also a dual POV, which automatically makes any book better! Grossman did a great job digging into her two MCs and making their personalities very relatable! I also loved how her side characters were very well rounded! Every character has so much detail and thought put into it every single character! I especially loved Sydney!
I wanted to like this one, possibly more than I did in some ways.
That said, I did like it enough to be willing to give the next one a chance to see where it goes and how the relationship with Waverly and Pete develops now that the ending has them firmly in one.
Now, for what i thought of this one. I am not sure it's much of a romantic comedy. It's funny in places, and you definitely feel for both of them in each of their encounters, but I am not sure it ever really has the undertones of romance that are required for the story to be a romantic comedy.
I also struggled a little with one of the sources of the humor. I think it was possibly too cruel to be funny. Is it funny in a buddy comedy, or would it work in Hangover? Sure. But, in a romance (or a romantic comedy even) when the joke is cruel and directed at the hero, by the heroine, it doesn't work.
Let me try to explain why. I need to believe the hero and heroine in a story like this are able to move on from the past, to let go of the things that happened and to move on with a relationship. When the hurtful (and frankly cruel) thing from the past keeps coming back, it's not in the past. It's not romantic, and it's not even all that funny.
I am not really able to recommend this title...and I am in a "wait and see" regarding the author, as there were parts that worked and others that really, really didn't.
Hilary has a way of making me laugh with the situations her characters find themselves in on a daily basis. Who would have thought that enemies could become lovers? Well, enemies might be too strong of a word, but sometimes high school drama doesn't end at graduation.
This book is an expansion of her short story included in the Hate Me Like You Mean It anthology. I was confused at first when I started reading the book because I knew I had read it already but had forgotten about this anthology. However, this book has expanded and includes more of Pete's story which helps round it out and adds more depth to his character. It gave us a better understanding of who he was and what he had endured prior to now.
Waverly and Pete seem to butt heads a lot. He resents the nickname she gave him when she was 6. They are nearly 40 and he still holds it against her, at least mildly. Waverly didn't even recognize him when she was pulled over and it took some time before she discovered the truth and by that time it was almost too late to smooth the waters. They both go through a range of emotions before getting on the same page.
I had to chuckle when Pete puts Waverly's neighbor in her place. She is your typical busybody and calls the police for everything...including leaves that apparently blew from Waverly's yard to hers. I'm sure we all know someone like this.
The book has a HEA and I look forward to the next book in this series. We give it 4 paws up.
Thank you @NetGalley and Hilary Grossman for the ARC of Cop an Attitude.
This is a fast read of a teeter totter, fade to black love story.
Waverly has grown as a person since her elementary teasing days. She has suffered trauma and is a work-o-holic. Enter good looking cop on the scene and Waverly's world begins to change.
This was a 3/5 read for me.
I enjoyed learning about the characters personal traumas and grief. I thought there could have been more character development for Pete, the cop. in regard to his siblings and parents. I didn't get a good handle on his mom. I felt she was caring in some parts of the book and then regarded as a Karen in other parts of the book, and that those two sides never came together. I was a little frustrated with how long it took to get to the HEA. I wish the relationship would have bloomed sooner and the ending given more depth: i.e. Clara and Waverly's relationship, given more spice to the romance of the MCs. seen more of Charles and Waverly. The overbearing neighbor had to much page time, and it was repetitive to read her scenes. Overall, I enjoyed this read and would recommend. The 3/5 rating is due to being mildly annoyed at parts and wishing it wasn't all fade to black which is a personal preference as the reader not an objective criticism.
**Thank you to Net Galley for gifting me an eARC of this book. Here is my honest review.**
When I first started this book, I wasn’t too sure how I was feeling. Waverly is very headstrong, outspoken and opinionated. Especially when provoked, and Pete definitely did that.
As their story unfolded, I found it interesting to learn they had known each other as kids. Their attraction to one another was obvious in the ways they interacted with each other. She couldn’t help but hate him yet think of him often and find him hot. Pete figured out who she was straight away and fondly adored her alone until she realized.
There were funny moments in this story, from her hurting herself and their banter and wit towards one another, but there was also the trauma each of them had been dealt with during their lives. I enjoyed their connection and how easily they could divulge their hardships to one another, and how they couldn’t with anyone else. It was also hard seeing them both put up walls around themselves, even though they wanted to fully let themselves go to the other, a part of them kept them out. In the end, their story was cute, and I loved how they all came together with his daughter. It was very sweet.
If you like an enemy-to-lovers trope coupled with a hot cop, then this story is for you!
First of all, thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for allowing me to read a copy and leave an honest review!
I really enjoyed this read! Waverly and Pete’s story was definitely an interesting one. Lots of painful, unresolved history in their past that requires a good amount of character development to work through, separately and together. I think these characters developed really well by the end of the book! My initial knee-jerk reaction is to be bummed that they spend the majority of the novel at odds with each other, both clearly still dealing with their past selves, but I did really love the way that it all played out and how it was resolved by the end. Additionally, I loved the side characters. Lauren is a hoot, and Sydney is for sure someone you would want in your corner in any situation. I hope we see more of Clara next, since a good reasoning for Pete holding back most of the time was trying to do what he thinks is best for her.
If you’re looking for a enemies-to-lovers type second chance romance, with a single dad, and a workaholic love interest, that is clean and sweet that you won’t be able to put down, then Cop an Attitude is absolutely one that I would recommend! I can’t wait to get my hands on the next installment, it sounds like it’ll be a great follow-up!
Waverly and Pete have a history and when one night as the book opens Pete pulls Waverly over who he does not know at the time, he then drags out the traffic stop. he has her do the walk as if she had been drinking among other things. She still ends up getting a ticket for some violation that is off one day. Pete then later in the week shows up at her house giving her a ticket on a Sunday because the city just passed an ordinance with now gardening. It is like this for the first part of the story, Pete is really a jerk and is not giving police officers a good name. I will say she does kiss one of her friend's husbands to make him jealous but she does ask the husband first. It is not until they both end up at the high school reunion that he begins to change but again he messes that up as well. His mom in this book is not a nice person and is some of his problems, as the two of them try to become a couple. His daughter though likes her as does his sister. As for the rest of the story, it is good. The characters are good and the ones that are her friends help out the story. I really wanted to give it more than three stars, but at times it just felt off for me. I got this book from Netgalley.com
This was an enemies to lovers slow burn romantic comedy.
Waverly Ensworth is a workaholic, former cheerleader/popular girl and a klutz. She is the head of IT at a specialty food distributor.
Pete Ennis is a widowed police officer with a four year old daughter Clara. His wife passed away from a terminal disease 2 1/2 years ago. He has not dated since.
On a routine traffic stop Pete sees the girl who christened him with a terrible nickname in grade school and decides to have a little petty revenge. Waverly has been working long hours during a new application rollout and gets irritated and mouthy to the cop who pulls her over. She ends up with a couple of pricey tickets. They seem to run into each other at their worst over the next few months. At her high school reunion Waverly finds out who the cop is and feels terrible. She has a klutzy accident on the dance floor and Pete drives her home. She makes a pass at him and her turns her down cold. They go hot and cold on each other until they finally talk out their issues and get their HEA.

Pete causes Waverly (and himself) to waver Cop An Attitude: An Unlawfully Funny Romantic Comedy (I Can’t Stop Loving You RomComs Book 1) by Hilary Grossman is definitely an entertaining read. Waverly is the comedian in this book and possibly the series (time will tell!). Confronted with the actions of you youth and adolescence, Waverly is decidedly uncomfortable and Pete only makes matters worse. These two waver back and forth between hostile confrontation and friendly to flirty banter. The plot is an examination of Waverly’s and Pete’s emotions on several fronts related to their pasts, both individual and connected to one another. Neither character is perfect and their flaws are mostly approached with humor of the self-deprecating kind. Overall, this romcom is high on interactions that are witty, yet revealing as Waverly and Pete waver between letting the past go and moving forward to friends only to acknowledging and accepting one another as they fall in love. The introspection, whether internal or in person is often humorous and eventually leads to a HEA rather than hurt. I read an ARC of this book via Hidden Gems and am voluntarily sharing my review.

This book is a RomCom in the new I Can’t Stop Loving You series.
Waverly Ensworth is a 38-year-old workaholic. I love the representation of woman in STEM. She is pulled over for speeding by a handsome police officer in New York. She gives him some attitude over her speed. Months later she is at her at 20th high school reunion. She can't seem to escape the sexy cop. But her to dismay she discovers that he is the boy she bullied in school.
Pete Ennis was bullied by kids in school due to his size. He is no longer small. Years later Pete is widowed with 4 year old daughter, and works for a small town police department. He was injured when he was with the NYPD so now spends his days dealing with "silly" complaints.
This is a sweet clean romance. It was funny and entertaining. I did have a bit of a hard time with the chemistry of the two. It wasn't the most believable. Walverly wasn't super likeable either. I still enjoyed the book but it needed more.
