Julia (Jules) Vandelsen has been raised in a sheltered, controlled and wealthy environment, groomed to reflect the high class status, affluence and appeal of her family's Rock Beach Golf Resort, Her parents expect her to embrace the resort as her legacy and push her to accept it by keeping her away from family and friends in Carmel Cove. Her own dreams are pushed aside, but she understands that her parents only want what's best for the Resort and her future...or so she's been led to believe. Her beloved pap recently died, and her cousin and best friend, Laurel Ocean came home after being gone for years. The cousins have been kept apart by the Vandelsens and Jules doesn't fully understand why. It's sheer cruelty on the part of her parents, once again. There are problems at the Resort and some strangers have been in meetings with her mother and father, ostensibly to provide funding to keep it running. There are rumors that a drug cartel is looking for a place to smuggle cocaine through Carmel Cove, but Jules is certain her parents have nothing to do with it. When she is kidnapped and beaten, Mick Madison comes to her rescue just in time to save her life. She lost a great deal of her memory during the assault, but the doctor told her it may come back in time. Due to the trauma and rescue, Mick and Jules are tied together from this day forward and Mick knows that he will never let her go. He has a secret, however, that he has to keep from Jules or he could go to prison. The romance that develops between these two burns ever so slowly and is sweet, sexy and shows her what life outside the walls of Beach Cove can be. Along the way, Mick and Gwen help her to understand that there is no reason to give up on the original plans she had for her future. She always wanted to be a nurse, like Gwen, before her parents convinced her that she owed them for all they provided for her, even though it didn't make her happy. When her parents confront her with an arranged marriage to a wealthy investor, Jules stands up to them in a scathing refusal, but it's no good. They hatch a plan to make her acquiesce as she always has. What an ending! I couldn't help but cheer for Jules and sigh over Mick. He takes her home to Colorado to meet his family and, in a happy coincidence, he and his twin, Miles, just happen to be the brothers of Jessa Madison, now engaged to Chance Ryder from Enjoy the Ride! I'm really anxious to know what's going on between Miles and Eve and can't wait until their book comes out. Another excellent read from Rebecca Sharp!
