Published to accompany a series of ten television programmes first broadcast on BBC2 from May 1975.
This book accompanies the BBC Television Model World series and is intended to be a practical guide for absolute beginners.
Modelling offers a wide choice of activities to suit almost every interest. It can be an active, outdoor pursuit sailing model yachts, operating high speed model launches or flying the many types of model aircraft. Or it can be a quiet, indoor pastime making miniature scale models of trains, ships, aircraft, vintage cars, scenery and military figures and vehicles.
Model makers come in all shapes and sizes and range in age from under 8 to over 80. One way you could start modelling would be to build one of the models shown below. You will find the full-scale plans giving the complete step-by-step construction details in the inside flap of this cover.
This book was written to accompany the Model World TV series first shown in the mid-seventies. It wasn't available for long and has become something of a rarity these days, but I've recently re-watched the show and reviewed it for a magazine article, so I wanted to get a copy of the book.
It's really interesting, both from a historical perspective, and as a practical guide for building things using traditional techniques. It comes with three plans for building a yacht, a frigate and a glider - I might have a go at these sometime! The presentation is excellent and it does help people get a feel for various modelling activities, although of course, you might need to check that the information is still up-to-date - quite a lot has changed recently!
