Elia’s survival has depended on one simple rule. 1. Never let the fae realize she can see them.
When her friend is taken by the fae during Samhain, everything changes. Her search for him opens doors that should’ve been kept closed. Stalked and kidnapped, she’s brought to the fae lands, where she sets an ancient prophecy into motion. Struggling to survive in a dark enchanted wood, she unearths secrets one by one. With the truth exposed and her royal parentage revealed, she finds herself ruling a court she knows nothing about. Kheelan has been asleep for eons when the presence of his mate wakes him. The return of the earth elemental fae starts a ticking time bomb toward Armageddon. The fate of the fae realm rests in the hands of a mate meant to return his soul. Has the fae race come to the end of their reign, or can they prove they’re worth saving?
Shyla Colt is the sassy USA Today Bestselling author of the popular series Kings of Chaos and Dueling Devils M.C. This genre-hoppers stories feature three of her favorite things: strong females, pop culture, and alternate routes to happy ever after. Listening to her Romani soul, she pens from the heart, allowing the dynamic characters, eccentric interests, and travels as a former flight attendant to take her down untraveled roads. Born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, this mid-west girl is proud of her roots. She used her hometown and the surrounding areas as a backdrop for a number of books. So, if you're a Buckeye, keep an eye out for familiar places.
As a full-time writer, stay at home mother, and wife, there's never a dull moment in her household. She weaves her tales in spare moments and the evenings with a cup of coffee or tea at her side and the characters in her head for company.
This certainly is a story with an intriguing idea, we have changelings, strife and war in faeland bleeding over to the human world, prophesy and fated love with a race of powerful elementals angry at their land being stripped of life.
I really wish that this was more than a novella, there is so much happening that if developed fully we could have had something truly exciting, as is it is still an enjoyable- if not shaggy story.
I did like that even though it was fated soulmates and insta-lust, the MC didn’t just start stumbling after the LI like some sort of numpty zombie, there were discussions of free will and even if they suit!
I’m eager to start the next book in this series and I hope there’s more development and space given for the story to breathe life into the characters but also more showing and less telling!
Brilliant. A story to get lost in. Elia has never felt fully comfortable or connected to the people around her, but nature was a different story. She could connect to the earth and trees in a way that was not normal. Her friends, the very few that she had, had similar abilities and they all saw beings that no one else could - the fair folk. After her best friend, who is more like a brother, is taken right before her eyes, Elia begins a frightening and dangerous quest to save him and maybe get some answers along the way. She finds more than she ever thought possible including her real family and the man she was destined for. Magical imagery and creative writing that carries us along with amazing creatures and characters. Can’t wait for the next book.

This was an enjoyable read. Shyla Colt did a good job of utilizing the "less is more" concept well. She took a few elements (no pun intended) and interwove them into a strong worldbuilding start of an interesting series. Elia and Kheelan are our main characters and we see them learn, grow and even change as the story went on. I liked that Elia was a smart, kind, no-nonsense kind of woman with a strong moral compass for life. And that she was no doormat for Kheelan. There were strong secondary characters that I expect to see again as the series continues.
The story is paced well, not too long in length, and engaging. Wonderful start!

I enjoyed this book, it did take me a few chapters but after awhile I was hooked. Elia and her group of friends never felt as if they fit in, in the world. All able to see the fae brings that most can’t not see, the are outcasts trying to survive. Meanwhile Kheeland, an elemental who has waited many lifetimes for his fated mate, has awakened and is ready to cleanse the fae realm as an evil queen has wrought death and destruction to the land. Once united, they will form a small force to bring down the evil queen. This is part of a series, so I’m looking forward to continuing the story.

The story kept me glued until I reached the end. Even then, I want to reach for the next book. There is full of magic, danger, intrigue, mystery and a lot more. Of course, we still have a happy ending, our MCs finding love and bonding. This is only the start, the next sibling will wake, what comes next, we don't know.

Ella is a good strong lead, at first not remembering her heritage, and setting off a prophecy after going into fae to save a friend. Will she be able to save the innocent in the fae world or will they all fall to Kheelan's wrath in his quest to remove all trace of Rusalka's rule? You'll need to read to see. I start confessing, I wasn't expecting so much of this book. I thought it could be only another book with fae theme. But it surprised me in a good way. It's a great fae story, if you read the Winter Princess Series, you will love it. I curious to see what will happen in the next one. ;)

Almost a clean read. I really liked that the main character and Roan where best friends and nothing more. It’s rare to see books of the best guy friend not turn into the boyfriend. This book is for a Mature audience due to the last few chapters. There is multiple POV.

This book was very engaging, interesting and intriguing. A young girl's journey into the unknown, will by the end be the journey to finding herself. . I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
A short and quick read, where I really interested in what was happening. There was something always happening which made me want to keep reading. I am interested to find out what is happening next.
This Author was new to me but the book sounded like it could be a good read.
I'm so glad I took a chance. While there is steamy romance it isn't in the forefront, the conflict and self-realizations took priority. This gives you a chance to get to know the characters and really fall for them, root for them, feel for them.
This was a fun, well written book with great world building and interesting characters.
