A slow travel through the ice by boat from Norway to Siberia, followed by travels by train, river boats, horse-drawn taxis and sleighs to Vladivostok, and back again to St. Petersburg. Surface descriptions (i.e. what Nansen sees on the way) with contemporary mood. This book is more a travel than a read. You get into the mood of it and just listen. It's meditative and repetative, but in a good way.
