It all started one spring morning, with a complicated calculas problem that Beth Bryant couldn't figure out. Hoping to get a little help from the brilliant Stone twins, Rick & Ryan, Beth leaves them the problem, getting their assurance that they'll have it figured out by early afternoon. But by 2:00, the calculas problem is the least of their problems. When Beth goes to retrieve the promised answer, she finds Ryan dead, slumped over his computer, while his cousin babbles about pi in the corner. Then the police arrive, informing her someone tried to murder Ryan's brother Rick as well. Suddenly she finds herself under suspicion, and the FBI has become involved. Now, not only do the police suspect she's witholding information and pull her in for more questioning, but the Feds are following her every move..and they're looking for more than who murdered Ryan, and she has no idea what it could be. All that Beth is sure of is three things: she couldn't trust anyone, nothing is what it appears to be, and she is in great danger...
This was another audiobook that helped us while away our drive time. Strangely set up mystery with a set of twins, a math savant and a college student. I loved the math nerdiness of this, but the dialogue was somewhat stilted. Still, the storyline rolled right along. My only real complaint about this book was that there were so many sexist comments about the leading female character, Beth. Beth discovers a dead body and is accidentally (or not) drawn into the investigation of the murder, while discovering that her dad's a bookie and her young son plays with a savante who is alternately childlike and evil.
I listened to the Audio version of this book. The mystery was interesting, it involved twin brothers and their idiot savant nephew. The female lead in the story was interesting though at times she seemed more like 12 vs a college student. The mystery kept me intrigued though and I loved the twist at the end.
A murder mystery with a little espionage and family drama. The main character, Beth, was portrayed as a college student, but at times she seemed much younger despite the fact that she was a young mother, smokes, drinks and swears. Those things seemed to be added to her character to make her seem older, it didn't work. An odd book, yet mildly interesting. This was an audio book.
A light mystery with a little bit of espionage. Has undertones of illegal military envolvement. I liked the main characters and hope there will be more editions. The authors started some great subtext that could easily be carried into other stories.
Murder mystery - I kept thinking this must be the middle of a series. Interesting presentation of an Asbergers college students. It was a good commuter book.
book on tape - college students - tough calculus problem and murder of one of the twin. "Cousin" - autistic guy who is a whizz at calculus and numbers - savant. fun book.
The plot is a great idea, but I'm a whole lot older than the intended young adult audience, so I didn't care for the writing. I'm not sorry I read it though.
