The day before Halloween, Jonathan Carlyle moved into his cottage on the beach. The cottage had been empty for all the years that The Elusive Cat next door had been open. He just showed up one day. He sat on his porch in the cold winds. And then he vanished. A haunted soul who touched all their lives with his presence and his disappearance. But why had he come? And how did he leave? Or was he dead?
Sara Bourgeois is a Midwesterner through and through. She spends her time writing, reading, herding cats, and standing in her driveway during tornado warnings. (You can't see them from the basement.)
While not as engaging as books 1 and 2 in this series, I did enjoy the story. This book was about a dysfunctional family with one particularly unpleasant member. A crime is committed and the inept siblings are forced together to try and resolve their concerns in their own dysfunctional ways. What can I say? These siblings made me happy to be an only child!
The best part of the story (for me anyway) was that Jinn, the feral cat formerly known as Kitty Jr., continues to work his special kitty magic over Jan, Lois, and all the Cat’s guests.
I do recommend this story and I look forward to seeing what happens in Book 4!
I just couldn't get into this story or the characters. I stopped at the end of the 4th chapter and skipped to the last chapter. I felt like I didn't miss much. sorry...

I found this story to be not only interesting, but very insightful. The troubles within a family when there is an absent father is at the the heart of the story. The Who done it any why make for a very satisfying read.
Another great read by one of my favorite authors, I really enjoyed it! The story drew me in right away, it’s very well written. It’s an interesting mystery about a man who’s disappeared. I love all the characters! Great read!
This was an intriguing story. I sort of figured it out, but not perfectly. I think I’m getting better at these mysteries! I’m loving these characters. This is a place I would love to visit!
