Overall, I enjoyed it. I am a #hymnnerd, and so this definitely appealed to me. I just wish that it had a bit more about each hymn. Some of the hymns had very limited information, and I wanted much more, especially about the theological aspects of the hymns.

If you ever wondered about the people or stories behind some of the hymns that are sung in Church, this is your book!

I enjoyed the short bios and information provided on the hymns contained in this book. Admittedly, I prefer the older ones, as the newer ones don't seem to have the same depth.

Great overviews and commentary!

This was an excellent read and a great resource. My husband used this as a daily devotional book. Each hymn has a small one or two paragraphs on the history of the hymn. This is the layman's option for The Lutheran Service Book - Companion to the Hymns, a much more expensive, much more in-depth study of each hymn in LSB. Most of the hymns chosen in this book were familiar. But many were new. It was helpful to have a history on some of those new hymns, as a way to encourage us to learn them.

The information included was interesting, but I wish there would have been more about each hymn. I would rather have 2-3 pages on each one and have fewer overall, rather than less than a page for some hymns.

As a church musician, I love learning about hymns from the Lutheran tradition. I enjoyed this book, but I would have liked the descriptions of the histories/making of each hymn to be a bit longer.

This book made me see the hymns of the church in a different light. I normally don’t get to read the lyrics as poems so it helped me to see the beauty of the words. All in all an A+ book from CPH!!!
