This enriching study aims to reconnect readers with the Hebrew roots and Semitic essence of Revelation, bridging a significant cultural and linguistic divide that has existed for centuries. This book introduces you to a new way of reading Revelation as we delve into the beauty of the Hebrew literary structure and explore the Apocalyptic Jewish context. The Book of Revelation does not need to be rewritten, but it needs to be reread.
Dr. Eli Lizorkin-Eyzenberg does a great job exploring and explaining the Jewish background of the Book of Revelation. The apostle John was a Jew, as was Jesus, Who gave him this Revelation. The seven churches to which it was sent were a mixture of Jews and Gentiles. The Gentiles would be soaked in the teaching of the old testament in the preaching of the gospel.
Furthermore, Dr. Lizorkin-Eyzenberg explores other Jewish apocalyptic literature such as Daniel, Ezekiel, and 1 Enoch and shows how those books set expectations for Revelation.
The writing is in an academic style: long sentences and complex thoughts. Be prepared to think your way through, like I did in my small group which covered this book.
Although I have written a book on Revelation (The Revelation Devotional), I still learned things from Dr. Lizorkin-Eyzenberg. You will too.
I have not read a book like this that gives Hebraic views and background. Just a couple of typos but the message of the book far outweighs any trivial misspelling. Thoroughly enjoyed the read - I need to read it again to catch any new insights I might have missed. Highly recommend.
Expository and eye opening. Removes the 'spooky' out of the Book of Revelation. Simply written. The background to chapters 1-3 was exciting, rich. Wonderful references to OT scriptures, book of Enoch, Talmud etc. What the doctor ordered. I felt a little let down with the later chapters- the judgments and Babylon and the 2 prophets. Those later chapters needed more attention than they received.
I read this book in a jewish perspective and realized how similar it is with the prophets advertissements messages from Torah. This book is highly recommended to read and retrieve not as a scathologic view but a profound testimony of Abel the firt martir slain on earth.
So glad I did lots of highlighting will have to reread many times! Unbelievable journey! So much to learn and relearn from what I thought I knew. How many years I have been on this earth and just now reading the Real Story! Better late than never. Ready to start second book Hebrew Visions of Revelations! Thank you for the adventure.
Lots of insight into the culture of the time. Readable and interesting. Not great for verse-by-verse exposition if you're looking for a commentary. Also of note: It only covers the opening chapters!
I'm happy to have added this to my collection. I'll get the other books about Revelation as they are written.
The life blood for every Christian and every person who dwells on this earth. A calling to every person who needs to meet his creator. Who's heart beats, who's brain thinks, who's need to see his GOD face to face, resonates so intensely, this is your beginning you don't want to miss.
I am looking forward to more like this after reading HEBREW insights from Revelation. This book helps keep Revelation in its original context by remembering the times and people it was written to and for.
This was a real eye opener for me. For more reasons than I can convey here. So much was explained that I had wandered about, when reading the scriptures. Thank you. I look forward to reading more of your books.
I enjoyed what I read, yet the title of the book is somewhat misleading. It covers only the first third of the book. I am glad I purchased it by KINDLE, because I sure would have been mad shelling out the $ for a 1/3 of a book!
It was very helpful to understand that we need to see Revelation from the Era in which it was written. Author brings out many things I would never have understood on my own.
An astonishing insight into the complexities of Jewish apocalyptic writings presented well in clear language. I only wish it had been available to me a long time ago and I look forward to reading further insights in its companion books.
Very good explanation of scripture from a Jewish perspective...would have wanted to know more about his views on the tribulation and the battle that will take place.
A very interesting book and a good complement to traditional commentaries. It is obvious that only people of Hebrew descent really understand the Hebrew way of thinking.
Reading this book was a revelation for me. I always hated the idea of apocalypse and that confusion turned me off further reading. Now I am beginning to see more, in context and Old Testament links! Now I need to reread it and soak it in before going any further. Thank you for the journey so far. Shane
Interesting book. Only covers the first few chapters of Revelation. Good for understanding the historical context of the book. Doesn't give any insight on the prophetic aspects of the book.
