Kwanzaa by Chance

Rate this book
DARREN
The holiday season is always full of good cheer, togetherness, and unity. I usually love spending time with my family, whether it’s Christmas, Kwanzaa, or New Year’s. I got through Christmas unscathed, but now my mother has decided, in the name of unity, to set me up with an old flame.

It’s not a relationship I want rekindled. I know what is buried underneath the ash and it isn’t pretty.

Walking into Fern’s shop, hoping to soften my mother’s determination, I wasn’t expecting to find exactly what I’ve been looking for. Fern might think her only purpose is to be a buffer for my ex, but I’ll show her I want her in my life longer than one night.

I’ll show her this is the start of forever. By the seventh night of Kwanzaa she’ll be mine.

FERN
I love helping people find the perfect flowers to convey whatever is in their hearts. An apology. A declaration of love. Grief.

When Darren walks into my shop to get some flowers for his mom for Kwanzaa, I thought it would be just another transaction, just another bouquet. When he needs more from me than the perfect bloom, I’m more than willing to step in and be the girl on his arm for dinner. A night of good food and family won’t be a hardship as long as I can ignore the pang of wanting it to be more.

His ex hates me on sight and his mother isn’t much better. The only bright spots are his sister, who has her own guest for dinner, and his grandmother, who has a wicked sense of humor and all-seeing eyes. If I get through dinner, I promise to stay in my shop where I belong. I’ll keep my good deeds to fulfilling other people’s flower needs and nothing more.

There’s a purpose in Darren’s eyes I’m not sure how to interpret. With every look and every touch, I find myself hoping for more than the seven nights of Kwanzaa. Could he want more too?

*18+. If you like alpha heroes and an insta-love story that is sweet and spicy but isn’t necessarily simple, then this is for you. No cheating with a guaranteed HEA. It is a standalone but is related to my Denver Family series (Banks Ink., Suburban Outcasts and Higgins Security). Meet Fern in Healing Her Home (Banks Ink. Book 5).*

Ember Davis loves alpha heroes with a range of emotions, but a strong sense of how to take care of their women. She loves her heroines from all walks of life, just like her heroes, and she wants them to be real and relatable. Her heroines tend to be sassy, opinionated and smart.

Ember is a stay at home mom of two who recently refound her love of books and all things romance and is so glad that she did. She’s always been creative, but writing and creating stories that she would love to read satisfies the dreams she had as a little girl. She loves butterflies, the color purple and enjoying time with her family.

Pssst, it’s totally a pen name, but everything above is 100% true.

Listen I liked the story but him calling her baby girl right when he enters that flower shop yeeted me into the sun. And the name Fern…and he told her he wouldn’t wear a condom before he asked if it was okay?

But it was cute and I appreciated how they collectively told Monique to fuck herself lmao.

Darren entered her shop dejected and angry...

...then BAM her sees Fern and we get an instalove on steroids! We know all about instalove and the Banks Ink World but this one is fast even by their standards, however, I love that they both embrace the instant connection, and that even his family see it and accept it. Fern fits right in and is sassy enough to defend without being outright rude. A sweet but steamy addition to the Banks Ink World I read this on Kindle Unlimited.

Darren just got off the phone with his mom, only to find out she invited his ex for dinner, because she is ready for grandbabies. When he walks into the flower shop to get a bouquet for his mom, all feelings of angry melt away when he hears Fern's voice. Fern wants love, she sees it all the time when the guys from Banks walk in the door. When Darren comes in there is an instant pull that they bother feel.

This is a fun and entertaining story. Darren asked Fern to join him at his family dinner to one be with him, but also serve as a buffer to his ex. There is so much about this story that I love about the characters - Fern is strong and is herself, not letting the ex get to her. Darren is up and honest not only about his feelings but also the reason he wants her to join him that night.

Sweet story from start to finish.

Such a unique and sweet holiday read! Darren's family celebrates Christmas but the one that has the most meaning for them is Kwanzaa. When he finds out his mom invited his ex to their family's dinner on the first night, he is upset at her meddling. Stopping to get flowers to take to the dinner, he meets Fern. She is everything he has ever looked for in a woman. She is soft spoken, sweet and gorgeous with a wonderful heart. He asks her to be his date and buffer at dinner, knowing full well he wants more. Can he get the lovely florist to take a chance on the magic of the holidays? This couple was just adorable and I haven't ever read a story with Kwanzaa in it. The principles it espouses is one we all could take lessons from. Fern fits in immediately and finds what she has always hoped for, a family of her own. 5 stars for this beautiful couple!

Fern loves her flower shop, helping people find the arrangement, to convey their feelings. When the gorgeous man walk into her shop for flowers for his mother, she feels he might just be special.

Darren is not happy, his mother invited his ex to their house for Kwanzaa, she is the last person he wants to see again. When he walks into the flower shop, he never expected what awaits for him there, she might just be what he is looking for.

This was a such a awesome read, the characters wonderful, a steamy story for the holiday season.

So Swoon Worthy!!

Epic Swoon!! Fern and Darren are both feeling adrift in this sweet and steamy holiday instalove story! But a chance meeting has Darren turning alpha, becoming primal and possessive, wanting to claim Fern as his even before asking her to join him and his family to celebrate the first night of Kwanzaa. So much love, passion, and a sense of strong family values is intricately woven throughout this amazing story! Happy Holidays!

A sweet instant holiday romance!

A holiday romance story that was heartwarming and hot! Darren felt that instant connection for Fern from the first unexpected meeting. He was so swoon worthy with his alpha way and his sweet way with her made for a romantic read. I love learning more of the Kwanzaa Holiday and the light drama and loads of heat level in this newest release that doesn’t disappoint.

enjoyable

This is a relatively new author to me an I like her books. This is my favorite of the series so far. I’m glad I found the series. I’m learning a lot about Kwanza. I really loved Darren and Fern together. Their instalove was faster than I like but with their chemistry and his whole family I loved everything about it. I can’t wait to read Demetra and Hugo’s story. I also have the Banks series on my TBR now.

I'm all for insta-love but it wasn't working for me in KWANZAA BY CHANCE. They've pretty much decided they love each other after just seeing each other and nothing else. Everything is happening so fast, even between Fern and the family. Darren's grandmother basically declares how much she loves Fern about 5 seconds after she's walked in the door and only said Hi. Just wasn't making sense to me.

I’ve been waiting to read Fern’s book and it didn’t disappoint. From the first meeting and moment for the couple to appearances of old characters this book had it all. Romance, love, passion, and heart. Learning wheat Kwanzaa means to this family and how it drives the characters to be better people.

Loved it

Holiday romance story celebrating a holiday that is not covered traditional romance books.
Such a great instant love, with a twist of Christmas magic fate. I loved Darren’s Alpha-vibe and him calling Fern “baby girl” immediately, *swoon*. Darren’s has a speak-her-mind Grandma and that is always my favorite character.

Excellent

The connection between this installment and Kwanzaa by Kismet ( Demetra and Hugo’s story) in this series was direct. It is almost as if they were written by the same author.

I was loving this book anyway. I love the way they met. I love that instant connection and the speed of their relationship. I love the glimpses of Ember Davis’ Denver family. But then Darren started calling Fern “baby girl”. That just sealed it for me. Loved it!
