Laugh and learn with a child in your life with this light-hearted, fun retelling of the classic Christmas Eve story.
Ancient legends tell us that for one hour on Christmas Eve, animals are given the gift of speech. If we could have heard the animals on that very first Christmas Eve, what do you think they would have said?
Donkey, Cow, Sheep, Chicken, and Bird are having a typical winter night in the barn. That is, until Cow finds something in her food trough. Astonishment turns into awe when Bird reveals that it's a human baby. And not just any human baby, it's baby Jesus, the people's Savior!
All the animals are humbled--the baby Jesus, in their barn! A frenzy follows, while the animals do everything they can to make Him comfortable, warm, and safe.
With soft, beautiful artwork and a delightful animal cast, Bethlehem Barn is a light-hearted, fun retelling of that very first Christmas that will charm children and adults alike.
Geared toward Christian families who wish to share a religious story with their children at Christmas, BETHLEHEM BARN is the story of the Nativity from the perspective of the animals who resided in the barn and were the first to meet the baby Jesus.
The illustrations are fun and cartoony, but it reminds audiences that the Christian story has Jesus coming into the world among a group of farm animals. Too often, we neglect to consider the animals who we share our world with, particularly the farmed species. The Nativity story is a gentle nudge for Christian audiences to bring these creatures back into the fold of their concern.
I especially liked the book's conclusion, which invites questions and answers about the story, and also some reflection on the concepts in general. Pointing out that Jesus was born amongst the animals, one question asks readers what they can do to celebrate the animals this holiday season. That's a great concept for both adults and kids to consider.
I was pleased with this book The wonder the animals showed, once they get past their shock and humorous reactions to a baby in the cow's feed, is beautiful. The illustrations are great!
The animals remind me of little kids, getting upset at something out of the norm, then becoming curious, which leads to wonder.
A great addition to the world of Christian Christmas picture books! *I received a digital copy of this book from the author and chose to review it here. All thoughts are my own.
Bethlehem is a whimsical story of a very famous night when a baby and his mother spend the night in a barn, creatively told from the animal's perspective who once a year can speak. Wonderful illustrations in pastel. A Christmas tale perfect for a Christmas Eve.
