Jennifer Knight is in danger of losing everything and everyone important to her.

After battling warrior elves and high wizards on Magus, she thinks she might have an edge when she returns to Earth; she is wrong.

LaPointe and her wizards are threatening to close the portals between worlds, and they need Jennifer to make it happen. The best thing she can do is lie low, but that is not her style.

With no word about her missing werewolf boyfriend, and her house under gnome surveillance, Jen strikes out on her own to infiltrate the wizards and find answers. Her plans go awry because of an impulsive decision, and not even the help of friendly elves or a determined troll can forestall the terrible consequences.

Despite augmenting her deadly skills, Jen soon discovers that Earth's magic is fickle, and trusting anyone is nearly impossible when wizards can control minds. In the aftermath of a terrible showdown with the werewolves, Jen learns the consequences of using Careless Magic.

TY BURSON was born in Riverside, California. His mother and her family emigrated from Canada, while most of his father’s people hailed from Oklahoma. After completing an Associates Degree in general education, Ty joined the Air Force. Ty signed on to be a Russian Crypto-logic Linguist, went off to basic training, and eventually ended up in Monterey, California. It was there that Ty met his future wife, Kerri.

Ty finished his Bachelor’s degree before leaving the Air Force. Eventually, four kids and a couple of career changes later, Ty went back to school, got his teaching certification, joined the Air National Guard, and began teaching middle school in Florissant, Missouri.

It was at a conference for middle school teachers that Ty got the idea for a lucky dragon that protected a fishing village. A protagonist with a stutter and a demon came along much later. While the novel got shelved when Ty decided that he had to have a Doctorate in Education, it never entirely left his mind—as few wonderful ideas ever do.

Currently, Ty and his family live in Maryland, where he continues to teach after completing his Doctorate and retiring from the Air National Guard in 2011. Ty is known for entertaining his students with funny poems and stories, and for wearing bizarre, entertaining ties.

DNF. 30% finished. Ok. Good plot. Good idea. Good characters (except for the FMC). Starting to have too many editing errors.
If it weren’t for the editing errors I would probably give this 4 stars because my dislike of Jen is a bit personal. She is arrogant, stubborn, vindictive, short-sighted, careless, etc. She needs some good therapy sessions.
She wants to rescue her boyfriend, but does she accept help? No! Can she wait just a couple of days to look for him, with a better plan? No! So she ends up in the middle of the ‘bad’ people and is trying to sneak out. What does she do? Takes the time to beat on the girl who attacked her on a previous visit to the campus. That’s right! Everyone is looking for her, she wants to save her boyfriend, but she creates a big commotion! I guess her boyfriend isn’t as important as revenge.
She reminds me of the idiots that you would see waiting outside the principal’s office because they couldn’t resist punching the guy who looked at them ‘funny’.

I’ve really enjoyed this series from the beginning, but this book was the best so far. Jen really wants to go after her boyfriend, but she is being pursued by the wizards and LaPointe. With the help of some friends, and some not-so-friends, Jen goes after her boyfriend. However, things are about to get more deadly and serious, and those she cares for might pay the price. I just loved this book like I hinted about above. Great writing, fun characters, and an intriguing plot. We are introduced to new characters, whom I adore, and things get more serious in this one. I can’t wait to see what’s next in this series where we get to visit the 80s all over again. Highly recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

Who doesn’t love an entraining story with magic, entitled dangerous wizards who want to rule over all other magical beings, a determined rebel, battles and laugh-out-loud humor? Jen is back home and determined to gather allies to fight back against La Pointe and her cronies, but unfortunately nothing ever really seems to go the way Jen wants it to. It’s good she can think on the fly; it just might save her butt! I really enjoy the quirky traits of the eccentric characters ….. they really crack me up! This book has action, danger, Gnomes, Elves, Mages, a Snorter, Werewolfs, magic, weapons, Wizards, spells, mystery, portals, suspense, Mauch Chunk College, Clem, revenge, humor, battles, Ka’For, and twists and turns and more.

The trouble maker's lessons begin

In Careless Magic, Jennifer discovers that all her brashness, disregard for rules and lack of self discipline, are a recipe for disaster . She discovers that her actions have major consequences and that if she is to succeed in her goal to save her boyfriend, she must learn to accept aid from unexpected sources. She faces a truths about herself and her new world that leave her hurt and disillusioned.

Great series

I read all four books back to back and enjoyed every minute. I particularly enjoyed that it was set in the 1980s and loved all the references.

The MC is extremely likeable as are her friends. The relationship between the MC and her best friend, Amanda is funny and very realistic.

I am impatiently waiting for book 5.

This book was engrossing and action filled. Jen is the lynchpin to the wizards closing the portals. Staying under their radar is not her style. Her brashness leads to dire consequences. This book delivers everything you like about the genre. Recommend the series highly.

Jen’s choices have started to leave some heartbreaking results. I know I cried, don’t be surprised if you do too. Jen has found herself in a world of trouble and I can’t wait to see what the author has planned.
