Working for the FBI has taught me that there’s no shortage of evil in the world. But occasionally we find something good, something worth fighting for. When a case takes me out of my way one morning, I spy Chloe behind the counter of a local coffee shop. Blonde hair, blue eyes, and a sweet smile that lights up my dark world, I know she’s meant for me.

All of a sudden she’s gone without a trace, abducted from the parking lot after her shift. There are no clues. No eye witnesses. And each minute that passes narrows the window of opportunity to bring her back to me safely. The clock is ticking, and I don’t have a single second to lose…

This prequel follows Chloe, a college student/coffee shop worker and Jason, an FBI agent. The two meet at the coffee shop and the attraction is immediate. Jason indicates that he will be back to the shop, but before he is able to return, something horrible happens to Chloe.

This is a slow burn romance with a focus on healing. I felt a connection with Chloe as she dealt with her trauma and I loved how Jason instantly became her rock.

I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review

Morgan James takes us on quite a ride with Twisted Devil. Jason and Chloe's story is a beautiful slow burn romance that I think could be insta love if it wasn't for the events that Chloe endures. It's a story about healing and overcoming. Jason Doyle is with the FBI and Chloe Danvers is a College Student who works at the coffee shop Jason happens in to. He's instantly attracted to Chloe and she to him. And that's a great thing, he may be the only person who can help Chloe heal.

I really loved this novella. Chloe and Jason meet, and are thrown into tragedy. I love how fiercely Jason searched for her, loved her, and cared for her. Chloe is strong, but even the strongest people can break.

Their love story was heartbreaking and amazing. What do you do when you have a chance meeting, and then get kid napped?! There were so many way this could have never become a thing. Jason is patient, kind, even when his entire world revolves around her. It is also very telling about the state of the world: when something bad happens and you survive, you become a novelty. Your life isn’t your own it feels like, and it is very hard to regain your life when people constantly act like you shouldn’t have survived when others didn’t or make you live your life in a fish bowl.

I loved this novella and how it leads into the Quentin Security series.

As always, the first thing I have to say is that I love Morgan James’s books!
This is the story of Jason and Chloe. When Jason first meets Chloe, he felt an instant connection to her. He thinks about asking her out, but she gets kidnapped before he gets a chance. He’s with the FBI and is assigned to her case.
I don’t want to say much more without giving away the whole story. But you should definitely read this book.

Twisted Devil is the second Morgan James book I have read, and I am absolutely a fan. We all have those authors that we will buy their books no matter what. MJ has become one of those authors. She writes romance, drama, suspense, and sizzling sex scenes so well, and this novella was no exception.

Twisted Devil, a prequel to the Quintin Security Series, is the story of Jason and Chloe. Jason is an FBI agent who sees the evils of the world regularly. Chloe is a barista who is full of goodness and light. In a quest for caffeine, Jason encounters Chloe and her big blue eyes. He knows he’ll be revisiting the little coffee shop soon. Sadly, sometimes light and goodness are overpowered by evil.

This story grabbed me on page one. The characters, dialogue, and dramatic elements are all just so well written. You will care about the well-being of the characters. You will melt from the words exchanged between Chloe and Jason. Your heart will pound from the dramatic moments that may or may not work out. You will pant from the sizzling, sexy, love scenes. I loved this story so much, and I know you will too.

This was such a great prequel to the Quentin Security Series. We meet Jason who is a FBI agent who meets Chloe at her work in a coffee shop and they have a zing moment. Before anything can really happen Chloe gets taken by a possible serial killer and Jason does everything to find her.

Chloe fights for her life and she escapes but even though she survived she still has fears and reaches out to Jason, the only man who can understand and treat her like a normal person.

The emotions these two have for each other is emotional and ties into the theme of this series. Alpha men who will do anything for their woman and keep her safe.

If you need a good series to read this one is a must!

This was a new to me author.
I'm always honest in reviews, so I'll start by saying that this wasn't what I was expecting/hoping for from the blurb, which is a shame as it held a lot of promise. I think I would of enjoyed both characters and plot more if they had been given the space to develop.
A lot happened but also didn't happen in this short prologue.
In saying all of this I'd still be interested in checking out the rest of the series.

This was soo good i wish it was longer so I could see Chloe being more of a badass!! Her thought process when trying to escape was awesome cuz her quick thinking really helped her out. I also wish I could have seen her inflict some pain. I can't wait to see her becoming friends with the rest of the QSG girls!

Everytime there's a new book I cant decide with QSG guys I like more! Jason is like in my too 5 right now where they're all tied 😂. He was just perfect with Chloe given her situation.

The romance between them did and didn't happen quick but it's a novella so that makes sense, then again all the guys in these fall quick and hard for their girls. And of course there was the perfect amount of steam.

Another addition to a great series that I love more and more!

This was a wonderful suspense romance. Chloe is a beautiful girl working in a coffee shop while getting her degree. Jason is an FBI agent who deals with the darkest evil of humanity. They have a chance to meet at the coffee shop and a little bit of instant chemistry. However, before Jason can come back Chloe is taken and her life is on the line. This was a fantastic story with plenty of suspense but a lot of sweet romance as well. Chloe is smart and brave. Jason is the best book boyfriend ever, he is patient and caring. If you love suspense romance I highly recommend this book. I can't wait to read the entire Quentin Security Series!!!

Love this series! This can be easily read as a stand alone and it’s an exciting read!

What did I like? In this one something bad happens to Chloe but this girl is a survivor. Jason is part of the FBI team that rescues her and there’s a unique feeling about the two of them. Both of them are feeling the burn out but want to try something new together. It’s a short read but packs a lot of intensity.

Would I recommend or buy? I enjoyed it! Romance lovers will love it. It’s a bit shorter than most of the books in this series and Quentin Security is kind of an afterthought. Four star book!

I received a complimentary copy to read and voluntarily left a review!

Chloe and Jason’s story is rough.
A chance meeting turns into a nightmare for Chloe, kidnapped she must find a way to save herself from her nightmare.
Jason is FBI and he wants to find her, he wants to know who the sick man is that keeps taking women.
Jason and Chloe is a prequel to the awesome Quentin Security series and a great read.
Highly recommend.

I love Chloe and Jason’s story so much! This was a quick read but it was packed full of suspense drama heat and spice. Chloe had to overcome something very traumatic and she did it with such Grace she held strong and never gave up she was a true warrior and a survivor. You could feel the chemistry between these two from their very first meeting and Jason wanting to be by her side after everything went down was everything! These two together just made my heart so happy the complete one another and I love them!!!

Great start to a new series. Suspense, danger, tragedy, and a sexy FBI Agent that finds himself smitten at first sight and is protective.

Jason is in need of coffee and walks into a local coffee shot to find a long line and a beautiful barista taking orders and making coffee. He’s instantly attracted to her and wants to find a way to get to know her, but his job makes it difficult because he’s always on a case.

Chloe is a beautiful college girl that works at the local coffee shop. She’s almost through her college courses and ready to move onto bigger and better things in her life. She’s looking for an internship after college, but when she finds herself a victim her whole life will be put on hold after being turned upside down.

I really liked this prequel to the Quentin Security Series by Morgan James. It pulled me in from the first page and was hard to put down until I finished it. Jason is a kind, gentle man that wants to protect Chloe and when his job becomes a burden and he gets an offer to move, his first thoughts are with Chloe, he wants to see where things can go with her and moving out of state is not convenient. The relationship between these two is sweet, Jason is a man that is willing to work for what he wants and the relationship he wants with Chloe is no different. This story definitely left me wanting more. I am looking forward to reading more of the Quentin Security Series and I give this book a 5-star review.

When Jason and Chloe first meet in the cafe where she works, they both immediately felt a spark. But when Chloe is kidnapped later that night, Jason, who works for the police force, is hell bent on finding her. They find Chloe before it’s too late, but Chloe now has mental and emotional scars, as well as trauma, from the experience.

Although Jason still has feelings for her, he puts them aside because he values her mental health above anything else. But Chloe has a mind of her own, and even though she’s afraid, she knows that Jason is what she wants.

Wow!!! This little novella was heartbreakingly beautiful. It does have triggers, so please proceed with caution if that bothers you, but it was so very good! Jason and Chloe felt alive to me. Jason. He is such a good man. He’s brave, protective, and puts his own needs aside to take care of Chloe. *major swoon*

Chloe. Oh my, the things this girl went through break my heart. But she’s so strong, a fighter who never gave up. I love how beautifully written her journey back to feeling safe and well was. I completely recommend!!!

I swear to god, if I had to read one more page about how perfect and flawless Jason is I would throw my kindle out the window. And then also.. I know they've known each other for a year, but how many times have they seen each other in that time? And then after a few weeks of dating they start to live together and get married… This was way more rushed… even more than Twilight, lol. But the writing, the emotions and especially the spice were more than fine, so it's a solid 7/10 for me.

Twisted Devil was a short but emotional read. The whole plot was engaging and pulled several emotional out of me, some on a personal level.
This romantic suspense told the story of Jason Doyle and Chloe Danvers. Jason is an FBI agent who stops by a local coffee shop and is immediately attracted to the beautiful blonde behind the counter with a beautiful smile. After just one meeting, he thinks she is the one but before he even has a chance to ask her out, she’s kidnapped from the parking lot. He is assigned to the case and stops at nothing to get her back. Afterwards, Chloe struggles with the trauma she endured. Jason is there for her every step of the way. I fell in love with his loving and supportive nature.
This book had me completely transfixed while reading. I can’t wait for the series to come. I highly recommend this to all romantic suspense lovers. This is my honest opinion, freely given.

OH MY EVER LOVIN' HELL! I'm already in love with this new series that's about to come out after this prequel. I'm all about some alpha FBI/security guys, and man did I fall for FBI Agent Jason. See, he just so happens to walk into a coffee shop where our heroine worked, and their attraction was instantaneous, so you already know fate had a hand in this. Unfortunately, evil also played their hand as Chloe gets kidnapped after work, but thankfully, Jason knew what he was doing. Horrible things happened to her, so maybe just maybe, Jason will help her heal as well but first he needs to find her. For a short(ish) read, it packed a GIANT exciting punch so now I find myself impatiently waiting on the next book because I AM ALL IN! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Morgan gives you a suspense-filled, slow-burn romance novella that will have you wanting more. Morgan never disappoints in delivering a gripping, heart-stopping and thoroughly enjoyable book that you cannot put down.

Jason is a FB agent that meets Chloe a local barista and has an immediate attraction. He wants to get to know her but he gets a call that a local female has gone missing. When he arrives at the scene he realizes that it is Chloe that is missing. It appears that she was taken as her car and purse are still in the coffee parking lot. Jason is determined to find her at all costs. When Jason finds her, is she everything that he imagined? Can he help her heal and be the person that she was?

Chloe fights for her life and tries to escape. Her determination and strength were what kept her alive. When she finally escapes, Jason is there to comfort her. Chloe is safe but will she be able to survive mentally? When she is scared she turns to Jason as he is the only one that she knows. Can she let him help her? She finds that Jason treats her like a regular person, not someone that is damaged or tainted. Will she be able to let Jason help her heal?

I thoroughly enjoyed Chloe and Jason's story and wished it was longer. This story was a perfect intro to the Quentin Security Series. I highly recommend Twisted Devil as well as the complete series.

I absolutely loved this prequel to the Quentin Security series. Jason and Chloe are insanely cute together. This is definitely an insta-spark. There is a connection that neither can deny from the very first moment they meet. Then tragedy strikes and they are separated for a time. Once they are reunited, circumstances keep them apart, though they both still feel the pull to one another. When they finally come together it is possessive and loving and brilliant. I loved how respectful Jason was of Chloe and her feelings. I also love how accepting Chloe is of Jason and his job, but is also so in tune with his needs. In short this is a great lead in to the series.

Hmmm. This is a difficult review to write. First, Ms. James is a good writer with a solid style. The book has an interesting plot that I believe would have been better suited to a full-length novel. It has a strong male lead, Jason with the FBI. The female lead, Chloe, is an odd mix of strength and fragility. When necessary (to the plot) she is courageous, resourceful, strong. When necessary (to that same old plot) she is weak, passive, powerless. Her character feels contrived.

The book starts out with the insta-lust trope. Jason the FBI agent falls for Chloe, the college girl who works at a coffee shop. It takes all of three minutes. He gives her his card with personal information on the back and we get first hand insights via the narration, first from Jason’s POV, then Chloe’s.

When Chloe is abducted (not a spoiler, it happens immediately and it’s in the advertising blurb on Amazon and Goodreads) Jason works the case. Chloe’s incarceration at the hands of her abductor is macabre, but necessary for the plot, I suppose.

Ultimately, the abduction episode takes a year to resolve itself. While it might have been a conflict of interest for Jason to take part in a relationship with Chloe while the case was being worked, after that year, there was no reason why he could not have seen her personally, even help her with issues that were sure to crop up; after all, he was there. However, he decides he just can’t. It’s a plot device that is way too obvious and we soon find out why the writer has Jason holding back. I did not care for it. He essentially cut her loose. The plot did not have to dictate his pulling away from her.

Jason, as an FBI agent, has a career that keeps him busy. Eventually he pursues a relationship with Chloe and is rewarded by her waiting for him every. single. night. Standing by, waiting on him. Totally wrapped up in his life. And what of her life? Chloe has nothing in her life except Jason, so page after page is filled with her insecurities and desires for him, only him. The writer needed to give her a career, an exciting curriculum, some involved friends, anything other than ONLY Jason, for whom she spends ALL her time waiting. And waiting. And waiting some more. Ugh. What a boring, unfulfilling life.

Chloe desperately needed something to do besides sit and wait for Jason to pop in. It takes gargantuan amounts of drive and determination to heal from the ordeal Chloe went through; yet all she gets to do is passively wait for Jason. This is the same incredibly resourceful woman who efficiently managed to get away from her abductor but who is now reduced to being a passive mushroom. Her life won’t get back on its path again if she simply waits on someone else to make her decisions. When Jason and Chloe begin their relationship, it has been a year since Chloe’s nightmarish abduction, and she has had weekly therapy sessions. I cannot imagine any therapist telling a patient to sit tight for a year, doing nothing but wait on another person, allowing that person to control key aspects of her life.

It isn’t as if there were no room in this short novella to develop complex scenarios. Far too many pages are devoted to Chloe’s fears of rejection, musings about Jason’s feelings for her, her lusting after Jason as well as his thoughts about lusting after her. These narratives are on repeat and the pages consumed by them could be removed without damage to the storyline. They seem to be fillers.

Jason’s interest in Chloe seems almost spurious. He saw her one morning in a coffee shop and was immediately enthralled. We are shown no reason for this, no justification for his fascination. She notices him and flirts. But that’s it. This 2 or 3 minute meeting becomes the basis of their relationship. I know, the insta-lust/insta-love trope is common in romance fiction. Because it is fiction, and time is fluid, this could be done so much better.

At 47% completion, I got bored. So many pages filled with the same thoughts going on in both Chloe’s and Jason’s heads. Page after page of fear, desire, fear, need, more fear, lust, still more fear…and keep repeating.

There are a few errors, mostly typographical, I think. For instance:
 “Once I had tear about a foot long….” Ah…not sure, but maybe “Once I had A tear about a foot long….” I believe we’re looking at a tear in material, not a tear in someone’s eye.
 “The first digit on the license plate I suspected was either an E or an F.” Digits refer to numbers, not letters. Maybe “The first character…?” Or “figure…?” Or just call it a letter.
 “My thoughts were broken nearly an hour later….” This is an odd sentence. What does it mean? How are thoughts broken? This may not be an error, per se, but it is an effective means of pulling the reader out of the story in order to figure out what broken thoughts are. Can they be broken like a heart?
 “I opened it had barely held back a groan….” I have no idea what the writer is trying to say.
 “But if life kept going in the world kept turning….” Not sure, but maybe “But if life kept going AND the world kept turning…?”

I rated this book 2.5 stars and rounded up because the writing is good. There’s a lot of potential for the plot and for deeper character development. Even in a novella, the female lead can be shown to have some power over her life, and to be recovering because of her own determination and grit, not just because she wants the alpha hero to be in her life. He should be a juicy reward for doing good things with the way she lives her life, IMHO.

Twisted Devil serves as an engaging introductory prequel novella to the Quentin Security series, though it functions perfectly well as a standalone story.
FBI Agent Jason is instantly captivated by Chloe, a café waitress, only to have her tragically kidnapped. Driven by a powerful sense of urgency and burgeoning love, Jason embarks on a relentless pursuit to rescue her before time runs out.

Initially drawn by the striking cover and the appealing price (free!), I discovered a surprisingly compelling blend of true crime and romance, two genres I particularly enjoy.

The novella opens with a stark and visceral portrayal of the kidnapping, so intense that I momentarily questioned if I had stumbled into dark romance territory.
The author skillfully balances this raw intensity with detailed, realistic descriptions of the abduction site.
Chloe’s psychological resilience and resourcefulness, as she fights for survival, are vividly depicted and deeply compelling.
The forensic investigation scenes are equally well-crafted, lending an authentic and believable edge to the narrative.

The romantic element is handled with a refreshing level of maturity. Jason’s willingness to prioritize Chloe’s emotional recovery over his own desires is a testament to his character and creates a believable and touching love story.
The romance unfolds naturally, devoid of drama or unnecessary misunderstandings.
While I appreciated the realistic dialogue, I felt that some of the more explicit language could have been toned down without sacrificing the emotional impact.

Despite a few instances of what appear to be rushed editing, Twisted Devil delivers a genuinely entertaining and gripping read.

Well written but it was lacking, and it didn’t engage me.

The plot sounded really good, but it was all so rushed and really unrealistic at one point.

Chloe works in a coffee shop while she’s in college. Jason meets her when he goes in and instantly feels an attraction to her. When Chloe is abducted, Jason who is F.B.I fights to find her before it’s too late.

I’m really loathe to give this book a negative review. As it should tick all the boxes. Strong hero who is so caring towards her and brilliant at helping her recover. Chloe is really strong and well written. The sex scenes are really well written, (maybe a tad boring.) and I loved their relationship. It’s just the book is so boring, and I feel bad for saying it, especially after some of the books I’ve read lately. The danger was over way too fast, and it was unrealistic how it happened.

I know it’s a short novella, but maybe it shouldn’t have been. The plot was good enough to do a full book on. It skipped over so much with Chloe. Getting over her abduction and her recovery are glossed over. Reading the reviews for the second book, I can’t understand why this was a novella!

good quick read

This was a lovely quick read

Jason goes into a coffee shop that he’d never normally go to and meets Chloe. She’s his barista and there is an instant spark. That night Chloe goes missing from work free closing.
Jason puts his heart and soul into finding her. We also read about her determination to escape her abductor.
We then read about Chloe’s quest to try and forge a normal life and her and Jason embark on a relationship they wanted to start before her abduction.

Did enjoy this as a quick read. It still had that bit of suspense but also that romantic flair. I love how Jason was with Chloe and gave her what she needed in a relationship after her abduction.

This is an amazing novella which is about Chloe and Jason. Chloe is a college student who is working in a coffee shop, and from the moment Jason, who is an FBI agent sees her behind the counter, he is drawn to her. Unfortunately, Chloe is abducted in the car part after her shift, and there are no witnesses. Chloe is a survivor though, and Jason is patient and caring with her and supports her recover from her ordeal. This is a well written story which is a slow burn, and with healing, challenges, heartbreak, trauma, and is emotionally charged. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I recommend.

Morgan James is truly such a fantastic and awesomely talented author . If you have not read any of her books yet you really need to . I absolutely loved this novella so much once you start I guarantee you will find it very hard to put it down .From the moment Chloe and Jason meet they are thrown into tragedy . What a beautiful love story , not perfect and easy but all the same beautiful. It’s amazing and heartbreaking at times . It’s one of those stories that grabs onto all your emotions from the very beginning and refuses to let go . It has it all , Drama , suspense, unexpected twists and turns , steam , off the charts chemistry and most importantly lots of romance and emotion .

OMG , this story was intense. A very emotional read that had me at the edge of my sit because it's not your typical romance story where you meet, fall in love and have a happy ending. NO, this story goes in a totally different direction where tragedy needs to be overcome first.

When Jason and Chloe met first, there was something there, a connection that they both wanted to explore but when Chloe is abducted everything changes. Chloe is not the same person, she is afraid and has lots to overcome. Jason being the person that rescued her is so patient and thoughtful of Chloe's feelings.

I really enjoyed this story and it's the perfect beginning for the Quentin Security series.
