Jade Everly is a twenty-four-year-old native New Yorker, pursuing an acting career while working as a Barista at a trendy cafe. She shares an apartment in Brooklyn with her best friend Reese.
When Reese suddenly springs the news that she is moving out to live with her boyfriend, Jade has no choice but to let good-looking, cocky, musician and true player Colin move in. Now living together, Jade and Colin hardly see eye to eye, especially about the men she dates.
An upcoming wedding of her ex-boyfriend Noah and childhood best friend Suzy has her on the hunt (even more than ever) for a plus one.
Will Jade find love as she searches for the right date or will desperation blind her from finding the love she desires?
This story truly grabbed my attention and kept me engaged throughout the story. The character Jade is flawed, yet lovable. Her friends are dear and support each other in a healthy way. While I was pretty sure what direction the book was headed in - I still was surprised by some twists and turns along the way. You don't need to be in your 20s, or to live in NYC, or to know anything about the club scene to enjoy a book with themes of love and friendship.
Very nice and captivating book! Chasing Daffodils by Emily Sam is refreshing novel, the characters are well-developed and relatable. It was very interesting for me to follow the live and struggles of a twenty-four-year-old, Jade and to find out if she will be lucky enough to find the true love. Beautiful novel!
⭐️ I was gifted this book by the author in exchange for an honest review so here goes 😬
My main issue with this book is the writing. 575 pages is definitely way too long, it was very waffly, too many adjectives, and ultimately you just get told everything, not shown. There are some completely pointless scenes where literally nothing happens at all. The characters also would use the same strange phrases so it didn’t feel like they had their own voices.
Some smaller writing points: I’m interested to know how many times the word ‘plop’ was used!! Way too many anyway. There are other ways of describing a kiss other than ‘big kiss’ or ‘small kiss.’ Is the guy called Zach or Zack? Pick one!
I also didn’t like the plot. I don’t want to read about all of the MC’s relationships, they’re in such detail and totally pointless. They felt like plot points, rather than actual people… I didn’t connect with Jade or any of her friends, it also felt like none of them got along - Reese seemed to hate all of Jade’s friends and vice versa. Colin wasn’t a good person, he continued to be awful throughout the whole book!
The ending wasn’t good! I was so disappointed. Why did Eric come back? Why did they go to a gallery? What was he showing her? I just didn’t get it, what’s the point? Also Colin has a family feud because he didn’t get some money? 🤦🏻♀️ that’s it???? And he was a dick to her when they first met because he’s still in love with his ex? How can he be with Jade if he’s not over Ariel??
I’m really sad I didn’t like this book, but I just didn’t feel it had been edited at all.

Jade is a complicated twenty-something barista wannabe actress who lives in New York. I wanted to know how much rent she paid her parents because the money spent on coffee shop food and beverages, takeout and bar hops would easily delete her baristas paycheck in no time. That’s just me thinking like an almost 50 year old, reading about the carefree ways of a twenty-something free spirit! Lol Character development was great. It got to a point where I hated to stop reading because I was so vested in how Jade was going to get through drama at any given moment. I clicked my tongue at some of her decisions, grew wary, became angered at people in her life, felt frustration over family members, and felt joy at breakthroughs and happy moments. The imagery created by the words became a movie in my mind and I could picture every scene and character. I’m not a big romance fan, but this read a little different than your average romance novel. I think my 3 star rating is because of how frustrated I became with certain decisions that Jade made! Lol I do feel that we could have arrived at the end sooner, at the same time, I never felt like stopping. This is a wonderful first novel and the author should be very proud!
Alright, buckle up, folks, because I'm about to spill the beans on Emily Sam's latest book, and trust me, it's a wild ride from start to finish! Seriously, I couldn't get enough of this gem—I devoured every page like it was my last slice of pizza.
Picture this: the story unfolds like a blockbuster movie in your mind. I'm talking vivid scenes, characters that practically jump off the page, the whole shebang. Emily Sam isn't just an author; she's a magician pulling images out of a hat, and I'm here for it.
The plot, the banter, the pacing, and the LOL moments had me hooked. I was in deep, people. And if I could, I'd grab a coffee with Emily Sam just to thank her for the good times.
Now, I know rom-coms can be a bit predictable, right? But hold up—this one threw me for a loop several times. Sam's got some tricks up her sleeve, and she's not afraid to use 'em.
Calling all chick-lit, romance, and city novel fans—this one's for you. It's like stumbling upon a hidden café that serves the best darn cup of coffee in town. Trust me, add this to your Goodreads list ASAP. It's a standout, and you'll be patting yourself on the back for finding it. Dive into Emily Sam's world—you won't regret it.

Thoughts 💭 This book is freaking long at almost 600 pages. That's hefty for a romance book. I feel like at least half of it could have been removed. We go through the motions of Jade dating man after man before thinking about her roomie in a romantic way. I loved the character development. I felt like I really got to know Jade and her friends. I feel like there were parts where we got to know people that didn't matter. I enjoyed the book. If you love super detailed romance books that feel like a movie then this is for you.
I received an ARC of this novel from Netgalley in exchange for my review. I wanted to love Chasing Daffodils so badly because there were moments between the two main characters that were soooo good, but then there would be another hundred pages of no real plot movement and I just got tired of the story. The good writing is there, it just needed to get to the point of the story quicker.
A longwinded romance that takes place in NYC. I really enjoyed reading about Jade's journey to finding love, and I thought the writing flowed well and was easy to follow along. I did feel it was quite long, but since I enjoyed the characters and the journey, it didn't bother me much. The author has talent. I can't wait to see more.
I wanted to like this book but I found it to be just ok. The book felt very long. A lot of the story is details that didn't add much to the plot. If the book had been edited down it would have been better.
