Okay. So I haven't read the first two. I received this as a free copy in exchange for an honest review. I fully realize I'm missing 2/3 of the story, but I was curious (and the recap at the beginning was super helpful).
This is a zombie book. Okay, the zombies are caused by infection by aliens trying to create soldiers in an upcoming war...but they're zombies. It had the exact same feel as the Walking Dead, complete with people hiding their infection, refusing to kill their loved ones after finding out they're infected, idyllic refuges with a dark side, and aliens not being the only enemy the main characters have to watch out for. Most of this book dealt with how the human characters related to each other, and I found the inappropriate behavior from a male character to be incorrectly dealt with by the receiving female character. As a female, it did not ring true, even if they're in the middle of a crisis. NOPE.
I love the alien aspect, with the nuances between the Kyron, the Chrona, and especially the different types of humans that arise from the infection. Dealing with the infection from a social perspective and from a health perspective was fascinating, and I'm glad that was pointed out. I wish there'd been more about the aliens. AND PLEASE GIVE US MORE OF COMMANDER HILL. She is the BEST character. I'd love an entire series about her. As a sort of hybrid, she's fascinating, and she's badass.
Overall, not a bad book, but a little too heavy on the zombies for my taste.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this very fast-paced and exhilarating book. Jasper T Scott has done it again. Trying to stay alive while avoiding the Kyron is not an easy thing to do. Finding a safe location to rest for a while, and searching for food, warm clothes and armaments is enough keep one on the edge of their seats. And for Commander Hill and Gaby to have to constantly put with the bigotry of so many adults and children alike is saying a lot about mankind. One day, hopefully, we will get beyond all that. Thank you for another wonderful series.
Aliens have the upper hand especially when more invaders are expected - 5 stars
In-fighting on both the human and the Kyron sides is the basis for the action in the last book in the trilogy. There is plenty of action and fancy technology to keep the reader's interest. In addition, there is speedy, off-world travel. Underlying everything is the human desire to survive.
The Kyron want more soldiers and breeders. The surviving humans jostle for tribal leadership. A third party enters the action. The big picture is suggested in the title that there is a plan.
A number of diversions are offered to get your attention including a raid on a military base including a SEAL-like operation, several spectacular aerial rescue attempts, and several feints and diversions. Well done operations by a token force against a much larger, better-equipped military operation.
A theme is developed that one should not judge an operative's abilities based on appearances. People who make fun of or show hostility to others based solely on physical appearance suffer for their prejudices.
Finally, the medical advance of quick healing with alien technology is nothing short of miraculous. However, the effects of aging still cannot be eliminated.
BLUF: I couldn't finish the series. I wanted too. I really did. But finally half-way thru book 3 of THE KYRON INVASION series I gave up. It was just...…not fun I guess?
The overall story line is good. I liked the build of the situation. I like the ex-Union soldier/dad. But then its just sorta blah.
Sadly, I think I'd rather a three book series about Commander Hill. She seems way more interesting then the never ending quest to lose track of Gaby ever again. It gets tedious.
All of the books I've read by Scott, have the same type of character as the male lead. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to be driven crazy by him, or not.. but wow, is the character irritating. Every wrong choice, that causes others to die, has been made. But, yet, he is the hero .. it was quite an adventure of a book, and i was sad, when i finished this series. I could have read on and on.. all the wild science, futuristic machines, aliens, and missteps of our hero.. and his wife..
Not that having humanity completely obliterated ---almost ---is a wonderful story but it certainly was well written. Another one that I could not put down, and when I did could not wait to pick back up again. Part of me was hoping for a book four the way things were going toward the end.
Great , Super storyline Fast paced. Couldn't put it down. Chris and Bree & family find themselves running for their lives, even from the Resistance. They are befriended by an alien commander who also wants to escape the invading aliens. You'll just have to read it and find out for yourself how they manage to find themselves in a cryochamber in space!
The ending wasn't what I thought it was to be. I was hoped that the commander and Gaby were cured. That is what whole book was about, the saving of the girl who was immune, so the could turn the people back to themselves. Why wasn't the cure given so they could live a good life too!
End Game is the last book in the trilogy The Kyron Invasion. The characters are well-defined and realistic, some easy to like, others easy to cringe away from. There is plenty of action and danger in a well executed storyline. I highly recommend it!
Very nice prequel. Would have given a higher rating if not for some plot difficulties but overall great short series. Would like to see how they survive in future earth.
I was swept up in the story from the start. Impossible to put down. Innumerable plot twists a thoroughly enjoyable read. A great ending to a fantastic series.
Can't wait to read whatever is next. I'm a huge fan of Mr Scott.
Great ending to a very enjoyable series. Plenty of action with great characters and lots of tension and cliffhangers. It's a great companion to the Ascension Wars series filling in the gap while Forerunner One is returning to earth.
The final conclusion to the Kyra invasion. I honestly thought when Jasper said he was doing another series during the Kyra invasion that we’d have crossovers from the original series. But we didn’t and it didn’t disappoint one bit. We’ve followed Chris, his wife Bree, their two kids and Chris’s former employer Jessica from their life before and after the invasion.
They survived so much in such a short period of time, you feel as if your entrenched in this new world with them. And a sense of relief, as they have joined up with the resistance and will seemingly live a peaceful life until the invasion is over. It doesn’t take long for their new found peace to be disrupted by their new friends and Chimeras. They need to get off of earth and soon.
End Game truly takes you on an emotional roller coaster with the diversity of each character. There were times I found myself wanting to throw the book at the wall, only to open it back up because there had to be a way they’ll make it through this.
This series actually makes me want to go back and relive the original series.
A gripping story ofvwhat may happen as we search the universe for life. Maybe we should fix ourselves and be happy with what we have, but the that is not humanity's way, is it? Great characters and the story flows nicely from book to book.
The series was really good however I have to admit the last Book was a bit of a disappointment. I felt that End game should not have ended the series like it did. I am sure there were several more books that could have been written after this.
This book.is just okay it.can be summer ina.few word
Earth is.attacked by unknown ruthless aliens with unknown reasons. Our main characters survive after after miraculous. Encounters and after ages years!of cryogenic sleep find all aliens gone and they are eartn.
This is a good story with s lot of action but it seemed a bit predictable. Chris is the typical action hero who always seems to survive when all around him are dying.
After all the fighting and running and then being frozen them settling down where they had their honeymoon was a great ending. Thanks for another great story. Looking forward to what stories you print next.
I’ve never read a book where the answer was to sleep the problem away. I wished for more action at the end And for some significance of Gabby and commander hill becoming chimera. I feel incomplete
Thank you Mr Scott for an amazing ending to this storyline. It is more positive than I could have hoped. Even with Dean’s well deserved ending. I look forward to reading more of your books.
Series starts a little slow but the second book and this last book gives us a lot to think about humanity’s reaction to losing everything. Nice flip of storyline at the end. Well done Mr. Scott, well done.
