Hatch seeks closure to her past
For the woman who walked through fire
Redemption comes at a price
For Hatch, that could mean her life.

Hatch looks to heal the invisible wound beneath the twisted scar stretching her right arm. A moment's hesitation on a sand-swept battlefield left her friend and teammate Graham Benson dead. His death leaves a wife without a husband and a child without a father. Hatch sets out to face her greatest fear. Her past.

Hatch finds Benson's widow Jessica and her daughter Layla living in a small coastal town in Oregon. When she arrives, Hatch discovers the family in dire straits. Her bank accounts had been cleaned out by her brother, a low-end criminal who'd found himself in deep with the wrong people. He stole the money with promises of returning it after a big score.

An offshore nuclear plant comes under siege. And Hatch, honoring her code, sets out to right a wrong while redeeming her past. As the waters rise, so do the stakes. Hatch is a force of nature. And she's about to hit like a Tsunami!

I love the character, Rachel Hatch.
She’s a strong woman/warrior.
I’ve read the previous books involving Hatch,
which I always enjoyed & were well written.
This book was disappointing to me.
I do suggest reading the series from the beginning. However, it can be read as a standalone, as well
I still plan on reading the next book, which is available, “Fastrope”.
I hope it’s better.
Please be sure to check out the other reviews.

In the past, I have been a fan of the Rachel Hatch series of books. But my interest is beginning to fizzle. First, I am not a fan of the scene hopping, without knowing the connection until much later in the book. Secondly, the personal drama keeps increasing and is becoming boring and an expected pattern. Third, I am tired of the constant running from her home and family, which appears will continue in the next book. The suspense and drama doesn’t always need to include the second guessing of her feelings and running from them! Time for a change!

First of all, get someone to proof read the kindle edition.
Second, nothing like a love interest to get in the way. I was one more emotional quandary and emotional stasis away from giving up on the novel. State, restate, and move on. Rachel as the “Great Equivocator” is out of character and does not play well, in my eyes.
Third, story seemed to be too far a reach. Buried alive and then found in a tree? WOW

This is a strange book. Through the twelfth chapter the lead character, Rachel Hatch, isn’t much more than a secondary character, and one who is acting outside her own set of values as developed in the previous eight books. She’s dishonest with herself and with those around her. She’s indecisive. She freezes during a kidnapping. She runs away from danger. She dithers. This is not the Rachel Hatch we’ve read about previously.

We know from previous books that Rachel Hatch isn’t very good with personal relationships. Here, she can’t make up her mind between Alden Cruise and Dalton Savage and she’s keeping both men at arm’s length and balancing in the wind. She can’t make up her mind; she dithers. The Rachel Hatch in previous books doesn’t dither. Her love interests have always taken a back seat to the suspense that permeates each book. Here, they are neatly wrapped up and packaged for dismissal. While Hatch has no one to blame but herself, I find myself sorry for the way she is depicted in this book.

There is a disturbing scene where Rachel Hatch hears an alert about an oncoming tsunami, and she runs away. What!? The Rachel Hatch in previous books wouldn’t be running away. She’d be facing the situation and helping people in its wake, especially when she is in the home of Graham Benson’s widow. Surely Hatch would want to help Benson’s widow rather than “make a break for it” and running off? And what happened to the tsunami? In chapter 7, there are dire warnings on the television and sirens going off. Later, in chapter 14, it’s business as usual, and there’s no mention of the tsunami. This is a good example of “Chekhov’s gun,” where something is introduced on one act (or chapter) and is never seen again. Of what use is it?

She’s also way out of character the way she behaves during a kidnapping. She had so many choices and we’ve been privy to her actions under pressure for eight previous books. Here, she doesn’t want to shoot the driver of a getaway van, but rather than shoot out a tire or some such, she freezes, another first for the Hatch character.

Still another disappointment is the way Cruise misbehaves with Hatch. She could have stopped a kidnapping from happening but chose not to. Cruise jumped all over her, just a few chapters after telling Rachel he wanted them to quit their jobs and go open a diner somewhere together, thinking of a happily ever after with her. What a faithless love. No benefit of the doubt is offered to Hatch.

The town where most of the action takes place is spelled Fair Haven and Fairhaven, within a page of each other. There are other areas in the book that could use a good proofreading. Most errors are not horrible, but a proofreader would have found them, I expect.

The felons who perpetrated a kidnapping “were both hooded, so their faces were not easy for Hatch to make out.” If their faces were hooded, then their features couldn’t have been seen. Two paragraphs later, we read, “There was a grim look of determination and aggression on his [one of the kidnappers] face.” How could Rachel Hatch see through a hood?

I rated this book 2.5 stars and rounded down. This book reads as if it had been written by someone else. The style is different. The care that is evident in previous books, regarding both plot and characters, is missing here. It was disappointing and the ending isn’t worthy of any of the characters involved. I have enjoyed this series so much and I am genuinely sad that I’m not going to continue with it.

The Rachel Hatch series is one of my favorite reads and this last book was no exception. The story grips you from the very first page and then keeps you moving forward with Rachel and her new assignment in such a way as you really don't want to put this book down. I did think this story contained lots of things that would not be possible or believable but do make the story exciting. I also think the ending, would not be believable, but necessary to continue writing about Rachel and her exploits. The timeline is just not right and her age at this point is such that she should retire or not continue to do such physical and almost unbelievable things.

Disappointed.

I had expected Hatch and Savage to be together but the author has cruelly left Hatch alone.

A billionaire and his daughter is kidnapped and Rachel lets them getaway. Is there a reason why? This short read was a good read. Rachel saves the father and daughter with her team while trying to decide what she will do romantically. Two men who love her and she cannot decide which one she wants so she does nothing. I have a motto in life where inaction is action; it is a decision. She chose this route which leads to consequences. She loses both love interests; one to the tsunami and the other to another woman. What will she do now? Will wait for book 10….

I love this series, although this book took a little while to get my interest - once I got to 50%, the action took off. Before that point, I frequently thought I might set it aside and read something else - thus the 4-star rating. But as I said, I love this series. I knew I would want to read the next book, so I slogged through the first half and was rewarded with the type of book I expected. To others disappointed in Hatch's love life, I think it only fits that she is unattached as she makes her way through life. Makes for interesting new relationships. And if you want more Savage, LT Ryan is starting a series with Savage as a protagonist!

Very Disappointing

I've liked the Rachel Hatch series, but this book was terrible. The story line was just Ok, but the book was full of grammatical errors and nonsensical sentences that I had to read over several times to understand. Also a lot of repetitive fluff that just dragged down the book. This issue seemed to be rushed to publication. I don't know if I'll continue with the Hatch series after this junk.

Not up to the previous novels

The climactic event is unbelievable. The total story line stilted. If this had been the first book in the series, I wouldn't have read any of the other books.

Not near as good as the others

This one misses on many levels. There are so man very basic technical mistakes no one could have proof read the manuscript. Lots of tiring unnecessary word salad that does nothing but add to the page count. Sorry, but this one is a pass.

Consuming
I'm a big fan of the Rachel Hatch series and the spinoff with Dalton Savage. The characters in both of these storylines are deep, intense, and believable. There are plenty of heroes here, but no perfect people.

The story in this novel, probably more than any other in the series, has a bittersweet quality. Rachel is still living with Cruz at this point, although she continues to struggle with any decisions about their future. Cruz knows he wants her. But even though Rachel cares for him very much, she's just not sure it's enough to settle down.

Of course, that's not all that's going on in this book-- it's just the part I'm personally hung up on after finishing this remarkable read. But realistically, this story deals with redemption as Rachel attempts to bring closure to the family of a fallen soldier. A death she feels responsible for.

Hesitation also has a starring role in all of the subplots woven throughout this story. Rachel feels responsible for Graham's death because she hesitated. She'll also feel responsible when she hesitates during a kidnapping attempt. Then there's her hesitation with Cruz. She's feeling at odds with the universe.

The authors have again created a furiously paced and complex tale that pulls the reader in and holds fast until the very last breath. The intensity here is equal to the power of the tsunami that gives this book its name. The giant wave that rushes in, leaving death and utter destruction in its wake has its sights set on Rachel, her team, and those she seeks to protect. What, exactly, will be left standing once the water recedes?

Readers of action/adventure, suspense/thriller stories, and romantic suspense will enjoy this story. While it can be read as a standalone, I like starting at the beginning to truly understand these characters, their motivations, and the ghosts of their pasts. Either way, it's a stellar read.

Hello, book lovers! Here's the next book in the Rachel Hatch Series, bk 9, 'Tsunami.'

'Tsunami' is excellent for anyone who likes exciting, inspiring, and action-filled reads. It tells the story of Rachel Hatch, a former Army criminal investigator who has to stop a deadly attack that could wipe out millions of people. She has to face many obstacles, enemies, and surprises while trying to prevent the disaster. The author creates this extraordinary plot with suspense, twists, turns, and drama throughout the book while keeping you guessing, making it hard to put down. Rachel Hatch is a brave, badass protagonist who doesn't back down from a challenge. She is funny, intelligent, and loyal. She also has flaws and struggles, making her more realistic and relatable. The other characters are also well-written and diverse, each with their own role and background.

Finally, is the incredible setting. The author paints a vivid picture of the environment and the culture where the story occurs. You can feel the atmosphere, the sounds, and the sights of the place; it also adds to the mood and the book's theme: courage, friendship, and hope in times of crisis. To sum up, 'Tsunami' is a fantastic book that will keep you entertained and inspired from beginning to end. It is a perfect choice for anyone who loves thrilling, inspiring, and action-filled stories. I urge you to read this book as soon as possible. You won't regret it.

Daytime Soap or Action Hero?

Sweet mother of darkness! Do you even care anymore what gets published with your name on it?!! The plot developments are more awkward than a Trump cabinet appointment. Are we on a platform or an island. Oh, by the way, the island structure is capable of generating large tidal waves. WHAT? And the bomb countdown timing was worse than a home team official timer with the home team trailing! And just when it appears the worst is about to happen, you break out in pseudo psychoanalysis worthy of a Wednesday afternoon Days of Our Lives. What pap!
And has ANYONE ever put a thermostat Inside a walk-in freezer?!! Awkward plots; cheesy dialogue and a complete lack of understanding of tidal wave science! Pretty much a trifecta of fails on this one. But the next in the series has a different co-author. Maybe you've learned to try harder. We'll see.

This is the 9th in the series, and each one as good as the first!! In this one, Rachel Hatch, aka Hatch, is trying to free up all the things in her life she is guilty for. One of the first being, find Benson's widow and explain what happened and that she was responsible for.

Hatch is still with Cruise and they are taking on another case, this one just a one day job, of protecting the CEO of a million dollar company. But, things start going wrong on this "easy" case. The man's daughter has been kidnapped and Hatch is racing to stop the ones responsible. But, when she faces the kidnapper head on, she can't take the shot! They also have kidnapped the CEO and Hatch has let them get away. Why? Because she knows the man involved.

Another Natural Disaster

The ninth Rachel Hatch thriller by J.T. Ryan and Brian Shea delivers high stakes and heart-pounding action. Hired to protect a Japanese billionaire and his daughter during the launch of a controversial nuclear company, Hatch and the TES team land in Oregon, and straight into chaos. Eco-terrorists kidnap the VIPs, a tsunami looms, and a hidden bomb threatens everyone. Amid the mayhem, Hatch faces her own demons, confronting the widow of a man she believes died because of her. As the physical storm hits, so does emotional reckoning and redemption. Explosive action, emotional depth, and a final twist that leaves Hatch stunned. A must-read for fans of smart, high-octane thrillers.

Crazy

I have been batting a thousand picking the right books this month. Tsunami was no exception. This is my first time reading L. T. Ryan and Brian Shea. I now have to find time to start from the beginning. Although it is part of a series, it can be read as a stand alone. The scene with Savage and Hatch made my heart break as my eyes filled with tears. There was much going on with many characters but everything was orderly. I was not confused about the players. This was the first time in forever that I correctly guessed the culprit but it did not take away from the story one bit. What a ride!

This was such a disappointing book in the Rachel Hatch series, which I'd thoroughly enjoyed now. First, the author couldn't remember that the previous encounter with Savage took place in Tennessee, not Kentucky. Did no one edit the book? How was this not noticed? Second, he neatly killed off Cruise so that she could go home to be with Savage and then Savage had miraculously met another woman, fallen in love and the woman was five months pregnant. All within about 50 pages. Too neatly wrapped up as a way for Hatch to continue on her path as a consultant for the non-government government agency.

I don’t know what happened to the writing

But by the last third of the book the quality dropped off. It’s almost as if someone else took over the writing. The previous books were tight, gripping, nuanced, and engaging, but somewhere after the halfway point something seemed to change. The writing became more simplistic, details in the action lacked some consistency or were highly unrealistic, and by the end I thought I was watching a Hallmark movie. The first books in the series were really good, but after Hatch joined up with her former enemy the quality dropped off. Not sure if I’ll continue reading the series.

Great Read ! Definitely 5 Stars!

I love this series. Rachel Hatch is such a complex character and one of my all time favorites. This book was fast paced and had me turning the pages faster than I wanted to. It's such a great book. I wanted to slow down and savor the story. I try to never spoil a book for other by giving too much information in my review. I will say this, this one will bring you near tears at times. I can't wait to read the next Rachel Hatch book! Thank you for a great read!

Bullsh##!

Saw it coming, but still disappointed. While she avoided addressing the relationship, Savage assured her he would wait. He didn't wait long to knock up and "fall in love" with the first woman he saw. Fickle and too typical of too many men out there. He never really tried to express his feelings, either, except to give false hope when he finally did! Terrible and disheartening after putting in 9 books and holding just a bit of hope you guys wouldn't go this direction.

I was disappointed with this book. First it should have been proof read, or at least the Kindle version should have been. There were too many easy mistakes that would have been caught. Second, Hatch is a super woman but can't think straight when it comes to a kidnapping? I know the plot requires that the kidnapping happen but Hatch could have let them get away in some other way. A man she loves sacrifices his life for her (and others) but she carries on as though it's all in a day's work, but she couldn't react when she recognized the driver of the van.

I love this series and having such a strong female lead. Was so excited to read this and the pacing was good, story interesting, and then there’s the love triangle.

I’m not a huge love triangle fan and this one was a little extra brutal w hatch being so indecisive. To have cruise die for her and then savage out of reach w a new woman. Gutting. Not sure where they will go from here and super sad hatch w no friends doesn’t sound like my speed…

Never a Dull Moment

I thought I had read Rachel Hatch before it turns out I hadn't. There were references to things that happened previously which made me feel a little lost but it didn't take away from the storyline itself. Deception, kidnapping, murder, ransom, heartbreak, disappointment, death and distruction with Rachel trying to keep the innocent safe and her head above wzter. Great job. Thank you. Think I need to read Book 1.

Love the book except for...

Some typos and 2 big mistakes.
1. Jordan and Banyan were told to wait in vehicles and keep them running in case they needed a quick exit, then next thing we know the "whole team" were scattered through the audience.
2. What happened to the maintenance worker Quinn knocked out and left on the dock?

I also didn't like the ending. But it's a way to keep the series going.

Well... Not the ending I expected. I know there is a Savage series coming, but having Hatch back home dealing with her demons would be nice. Let her stay home based and go on missions while at the same time dealing with real life back home. Her reflection from home could give her different perspectives. Maybe the softer, personal side of Hatch can come out and play some.

I enjoyed the book and will check out the new series too.

The Beginning and the End!

I just discovered this Hatch novel. The title Tsunami intrigued me. Now I find it is the last book until 2023.
It was an excellent story with good and bad. I liked that the bad guys got what they deserved while there was forgiveness and reprieve for others.
I would definitely recommend it, but I would suggest it NOT be the first book in the series you read. There’s too much history referred to in the story.

Action Packed Book

Really enjoy this series. Hatch is one strong woman who goes above and beyond in every job she does. So very sad she lost the love of 2 men who adored her in this book. Hatch deserves happiness, hope she can find it in the future. Great settings in this book, and really makes you sit up and take notice on what can happen in a tsunami. Since I live in Oregon on the coast, the book hit home! Looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

Hatch gets what she deserves.

The plot follows as have previous Hatch books, but the action seemed a little subdued. Some characters had questionable motives and a good Hatch college needlessly had to die. Hatch and characters had to learn the hard lessons of making bad decisions. In the end, Hatch's pass emotional indecisions cost her big time. Not one of my favorite Hatch books. The author seems on making Hatch suffer through life while making tough choices.
