Kaylea loves to hear from readers, so please feel free to drop me a line and say hello.
You will always get an action-packed Romantic-Suspense with a Kaylea Cross book and I have never been disappointed. Her formula of hot hero, smart heroine, adrenaline-fueled passion, nasty baddie and seat of your pants action works every time. The Crimson Point gang is just awesome.
Jaia is on a mission - to find evidence that her brother's death was not an accident, but murder. Dangerous work, but Jaia is determined to do it even when it means bugging her boss and stealing secret files from secure military contractor, Greystone. where she also works. What she discovers if way beyond her brother's death and when she uncovers a murder plot she has to act, even if it puts her life at risk.
Brandon Whitaker is an Air National Guard Pararescueman who was captured in Yemen and was severely beaten and tortured. His captors wanted information about Greystone and claimed they committed atrocities there. Bradon narrowly escaped with his life. While he is recovering in Crimson Point, he receives strange messages from a stranger about Greystone. The she calls telling him his life is in danger and to run.
Jaia knows that she is blown, but she must retrieve the last of the documents that prove Greystone murdered her brother and she has to know that Brandon escaped. She needs help and decides to trust Brandon. With a hit team on their trail, they can only trust each other and the Crimson Point crew.
Quiet, reserved Brandon Whitaker's story is an unfinished one and 'Cornered' was really the book that I didn't know I wanted to read until the blurb grabbed hold of me and wouldn't let go. As a short POW that turned his world upside down and unfolded a bigger conspiracy about war crimes conducted by mercenaries, Brandon's search for answers--while trying to keep his family at large out of it--was one that I knew I wanted to go to the bottom of as well, considering the previous book in this new series ended with too many questions unanswered.
I loved the start of 'Cornered' as well: an anonymous warning voice that seems to be helping him from the inside; it's all very cloak-and-dagger stuff except that it's merely from a civilian who's also lost her brother and is determined to get her answers like Brandon. It's in many ways, like double-agent-type stories which got me visibly excited, except that the tension sort of goes down a little when Jaia and Brandon finally meet (somewhere only after the first third of the book) when her life finally implodes.
Action sequences are in abundance and the narrative from there does get a bit predictable, even as the whole cast of characters from Crimson Point flit in and out at some time. There is some sort of instant attraction/instalove here, though Kaylea Cross is cautious in framing it this as holding onto each other when everything else is crumbling. The intensity with which they cling to each other is understandable, though somewhat insufficient as a basis for a budding romance when all I seemed to get was Brandon/Jaia's drive to uncover the truth.
'Cornered' is hence a bit of a mixed bag: an awesome beginning that builds towards Jaia and Brandon finally coming face to face, though this levelled out into something more mellow and more surface-level in the end. The overarching plot started in the first book seems resolved by the end of this and while it's not the big conspiracy that I thought it would turn out to be, I'm curious to see if the rest of the series would continue in a similar vein...which is personally a nice step away from the small-town suspense kind of romance.
This was a highly suspenseful read, but I struggled with the emotional connection to both H/h for some reason, insta love isn’t usually my favourite trope, and the way the story unfolded I just couldn’t find the connection to Brandon & Jaia.
The suspenseful storyline was engrossing but I ended up skimming the romance parts.
I am a mood reader so maybe I’ll revisit the book in the future and maybe my review will change but for now it’s 4 stars
As usual I loved it, Kaylea Cross can write romantic suspense like no other: action, steam and emotion, and a group you want to be a part of. I can't wait for Groz's book to come out next!
This was yet another thrilling read from this talented author. Once I started I was utterly transfixed and unable to put it down. With cover to cover action you yet again won't be disappointed. I knew after the previous book that Brandon's story was going to be special, and boy was I proven right. Made even more so by the woman who had his back throughout. The strength from both of them while facing threats from all angles and across the country will have you on the edge of your seat, rooting for them, hoping the good guys prevail. Honestly I don't know what more I can say without spoiling it, so instead I'll just urge you to one click immediately.
Cornered returns readers to Crimson Point. As National Guard Pararescueman Brandon Whitaker 'Whit' finds an unlikely ally in his quest for the truth about why those who held him captive in Yemen were so desperate to learn his knowledge of Graystone and when new ally Jaia saves his life and risks her own to expose more secrets he's determined to pay her back.
And with threats coming from every direction and very few people they can trust. This was an adrenaline filled roller-coaster of a story. That also delivered strong characters and a great romance.
Jaia wants justice for her brother, who she believes died in suspicious circumstances. While pursuing the truth, she learns of a hit taken out on Brandon “Whit”. They both end up hunted and on the run. This was better than the last one, I think. Either that or it was farther from a Stoker book, so I felt more patient with hit. I read the ebook. 4/5
CORNERED is the second instalment in Kaylea Cross’ contemporay, adult CRIMSON POINT PROTECTORS erotic, romantic suspense series-a spin off from the author’s Crimson Point series. This is Air National Guard Pararescueman Brandon Whitaker, and executive assistant Jaia Sidhu’s story line. CORNERED can be read as a stand alone but for back story and cohesion, I recommend reading book one where the reader is first introduced to Brandon Whitaker.
Told from third person perspective CORNERED follows Jaia Sidhu’s search for the truth. Jaia works for an organization once known as Graystone, an organization with close connections to the seedier side of the government underworld. Within days of her brother’s first assignment for Graystone, everything spiralled out of controlled, and Jaia’s brother Sukhi was killed in a road accident while on patrol in Yemen, a death Graystone went to great lengths to cover up. Working on her own to ferret out the truth, Jaia will discover that Graystone has ordered a hit on a man named Brandon Whitaker, and Jaia places herself in danger, to warn our hero about his impending demise. Brandon Whitaker has no idea who is leaking information about the Graystone Organization but the information is about to place him in the direct line of fire. Jaia Sidhu knows she has run out of time, so our heroine leaves Tampa Florida for Portland Oregon where she will be quickly enveloped by the Crimson Point team. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Jaia and Brandon, and the potential fall-out as a hit has been ordered on our story line couple, revealing a deeper and darker plan to destroy them both.
The relationship between Brandon and Jaia begins as online strangers. Jaia is desperate to turn over the information she has ‘stolen’ from her current employer,, and Brandon Whitaker is the only man she can trust. While on assignment in Yemen, Brandon was captured and tortured for information he knew nothing about but the name ‘Graystone’ was often mentioned and a high priority for the people in charge. Upon his rescue Brandon finds that the Graystone Organization may be involved in criminal activity both at home and abroad, and his search brings him up close and personal with our story line heroine. Jaia never expected to find herself on the run but falling for Brandon Whitaker meant falling for a man who had stolen her heart. The $ex scenes are intimate and erotic without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
We are re-introduced to Brandon’s sister Kerrigan and her boyfriend Air National Guard Pararescueman Travis Masterson, psychologist Mia Ramos, and pararescueman Asher “Groz” Grozinski; Boyd and Ember; former Delta operator Callum Falconer; Jaia’s boss Robert Giesbrecht; Graystone CEO Douglas Lawrence; and reluctant assassin for hire Val. The requisite evil has many faces.
CORNERED is a story of power and control; betrayal and vengeance; espionage and secrets, acceptance and love. The fast paced premise is intriguing and captivating; the romance is seductive and hot; the characters are energetic and dynamic.
Cornered is another thrilling romantic suspense set in Crimson Point by author Kaylea Cross. While it is a standalone, there is a broader story arc that began in Falling Hard that finds its conclusion in this book.
Searching for justice for her murdered brother, Jaia knows that Graystone, the company she works for as well, is at fault. While secretly gathering data and information from files and conversations she shouldn’t have access to, she discovers that another innocent is being threatened. When she risks it all to tell him, she discovers that she has also put herself in the sights of those in charge of covering everything up and making sure there are no loose ends.
As Brandon tries to put his life back together after being held as a POW in Yemen, he has no idea just how much danger he is still in as he tries to put together the pieces of why he was captured and why no one seems to care when the name Grayston is brought up again and again. When he receives a call from a burner phone telling him a hit team is after him, it not only saves his life but sets a chain of events in motion that will bring him face to face with Jaia as they work to stay alive and expose the cover up Graystone is perpetrating.
I adored Brandon and Jaia! Jaia is such an unlikely hero, as an admin assistant and someone who really wasn’t a risk taker until she needed to be. And, Brandon couldn’t help but act as a protector to the woman who not only saved his life but also made him feel some sense of normalcy after all that he survived while in captivity.
The suspense and action is really non stop and the plot complex as this couple, with a little bit of help from the Crimson Point characters we know from prior books) begin unraveling the clues while on the run from former military turned killers.
Cornered was a perfect balance of suspense and romance and the perfect book to binge read over a weekend! 5 stars
I’m a long-time fan of romantic suspense books and Kaylea Cross. She writes edge-of-your-seat romantic thrillers I can’t seem to get enough of. She’s on the short list of authors I 1-click without reading a blurb. With Cornered, the second Crimson Point Protectors book, she takes us back to Crimson Point and gives us a fresh new story with glimpses of beloved characters from previous books. However, it’s a complete standalone title, so you don’t have to read any Crimson Point or the first Protectors book to enjoy this story.
Of all of her recent books, this one focused more on the suspense than the romance, and I actually loved that about it. Don’t get me wrong. There’s nothing wrong with romance and sexy times in books, but I prefer my romantic suspense books to be heavier on the suspense. It’s what keeps me reading as fast as I can to get to the whodunnit part. Cornered is yet another winner from a beloved author.
This is an intriguing book, but it is almost borderline not romance. The story is strong, and I really enjoy the continuing mystery from book one, but I wasn’t totally invested in the relationship with Jaia and Brandon. There was more focus on the secondary story that their relationship, and they didn’t truly interact until almost 30% into the book. And there was extremely limited contact before that. Had they met right at the beginning then I think I would have been more invested in their relationship. That being said, I enjoyed this book, and I will continue to read this series because I am interested to see just where the Graystone storyline is going to go. There are the elements of suspense that I love in this story, and the continuation of involvement from previous Crimson Point characters. I do warn that this story while you can read it as a standalone, you would get more out of this story reading this series in order.
WOW! Another FANTASTIC story by Kaylea! It involves Kaia and Brandon! Their story is about Brandon's time in another country and his capture to find out what he knew about the company that Kaia worked for. Their meeting basically turned dangerous. You definitely get involved with these two as they face their fears. It's sad when one of the assassins has a conscience but in the end it doesn't end well. Anyway, this story will keep you intrigued through the end. FANTASTIC job Kaylea! I would recommend this book! Can't wait for the next book!
This author delivers another 5 stars, edge of your seat story in the latest addition to the series titled Crimson Point Protectors. Brandon Whitaker, a National Guard pararescueman and brother of Kerrigan whom we met in book one, is still recovering physically and mentally after being taken prisoner and tortured for days during a mission in Yemen. The capturers were constantly questioning him about Graystone and the atrocities they were committing. He had no answers as he didn’t know what they were talking about. But after his rescue, he realizes some in the government were covering up what had happened. The more Brandon digs the more questions arise. Jaia works in Tampa as the assistant to one of the owners of Graystone. She has been search for answers after her brother died while working for Graystone. Jaia believes his death was not due to an accident but because he had discovered what Graystone was doing. In her search for answers , she secretly was sending information to Brandon. From the moment the danger gets too close to Brandon, a meeting between them was planned. From that moment on, not only the danger but also the attraction intensifies. Will Graystone finally pay for its atrocities? Will Brandon and Jaia survive the killers? If they do, will they finally see how good they are with and for each other? This action packed story will have your heart pounding, and rooting for the good guys and gals. The characters are well developed and once again, the author gives us a hunky, alpha male character and a strong female one . If you have read book 1 in the series as well as the original Crimson Point series, you’ll get a chance to visit with some of those characters. Can’t wait for the next story in the series. I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
Cornered is book two in the Crimson Point Protector series and features executive assistant to Graystone, Jaia Sidhu, and National Guard pararescueman, Brandon Whitaker. We were introduced to both of them in previous books and I remember really anticipating their story. It was as intense and nail-biting as I had expected. I could not put this book down.
Jaia is mourning the death of her brother, but when she starts uncovering a possible cover-up by the very company she works for, she is now determined to find out what really happened. During her research, she learns of a possible hit on another victim of Graystone. Brandon was previously taken prisoner and tortured during his mission in Yemen and is still mentally recovering from his ordeal. Initially, Jaia had been messaging and sending tidbits of information about Graystone via email, but when the danger against Brandon becomes too close she knew she had to make closer contact. From the very start these two meet face-to-face, it was non-stop action and also an attraction they could not deny.
Jaia and Brandon’s story was a fantastic read. So much drama and suspense that had me quickly turning those pages to the very end. It was also wonderful to see the previous characters from the previous books and series and also new ones. They all played such an important part in their story. I cannot wait for the next in the series.
Jaia has been searching for answers about her brother’s death. It happened overseas and the company she works for, she believes is responsible. She steals files and bugs her boss’s office and car and finds out they put a hit on another man. Brandon, an Air National Guard Pararescueman, was tortured and held hostage in Yemen, during a mission. They kept asking him about Graystone. He knew nothing but he is investigating it because his sister worked there and she was almost killed. Jaia has been sending Brandon documents and when she messages him about the hit, she drives all the way to him. Brandon doesn’t know whether to trust her or not but when they cause Jaia to wreck, they start working together. Now there is a hit on both and they don’t know who to trust.
Excellent. Strangers to lovers. Secrets and mystery. I loved getting lost in this story. Fast paced and action.
* Voluntarily read and reviewed this for the author *
I'm loving this Crimson Point Protectors series even though Cornered is only the second book so far.
Although there are references to a storyline from other books set in Crimson Point, Cornered can be read and enjoyed as a standalone novel. However, be warned, you WILL want to go back and check them out!
The story of Brandon and Jaia is a lesson, not only in love, but trust.
Finding themselves in the same position, they are left with no choice but to join forces. This forced proximity brings other challenges and both Brandon and Jaia find themselves having to adjust and adapt as issues arise.
The development of their relationship is written so perfectly that you will easily get caught up in all the excitement.
There will however always be a special place in my heart for heroes who protect their families at a cost to themselves and their code of honour.
I'm so looking forward to the continuation of this series and the men of the Air National Guard Pararescue teams.
Fast paced and exciting! Jaia is an executive assistant for Graystone, a military contractor based in the United States. Brandon, a PJ, is recovering from captivity and torture in Yemen. (If you haven't read “Falling Hard”, the first book in the series, you might want to. The beginning of Brandon's' story is there and “Cornered” makes more sense.) Jaia and Brandon are quietly researching Graystone for a different reasons. Jaia lost her brother on a mission for Graystone. Brandon learned of heinous acts of violence perpetrated by Graystone while he was tortured in Yemen, Jaias' and Brandon's' searches cross and that is when danger strike from numerous sides
Once again, Kaylea Cross weaves a marvelous tale! She uses word craft to create scenes that pull you into the story. I didn't put the book down except for sleep! This new series is already off to a great start! I can hardly wait for the next one.
Jaia just lost her brother and she knows that he was killed. They both worked for the Sam company and things are not adding up. Now she will do everything she can to get the answers she deserves. When she starts emailing evidence to a military man she hopes he can help her. Brandon has people after him and he isn’t sure why. Now he is mixed up with Jaia and they need to find out what is going on before it’s to late. Can these to unravel the mystery before they become the next victims? This was a action packed page turner that kept me guessing. This book was fast paced and definitely held my attention. These two bonded extremely fast and had great chemistry. Kaylea never disappoints! Her books are always jammed packed with excitement and Incredible stories. I’m really enjoying this series. I’m already looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
A former POW tormented by his capture…a woman looking for answers into the death of her brother…two peoples lives crash together in book two of the Crimson Point Protectors series. I love how Cross weaves her series’ together, keeping us so deeply routed and invested in her characters and Cornered is no different. We are introduced to Air National Guard Pararescueman Brandon Whitaker in book one when he is rescued from being a POW. This book introduces him to the lovely Jaia, who is risking her life to save his, all while finding answers to the questions surrounding her brother’s death. Suspense, passion, longing, action packed adventure and more, this story had it all. I can’t wait to see what Cross had for us in the next book.
Brandon Whitaker was first mentioned in Dangerous Survivor, and then was an integral part of Falling Hard, and now we get the whole story of his captivity in Cornered. Jaia works for the company that was a former contractor in Yemen, as well as employed her brother (who was killed during an operation there). She is trying to find out the truth behind his death and the tragic situation Brandon was in, and now her life is in danger. After they meet, it is evident that they need to work together to find the answers they need and to stay alive. Being together in such a tense situation only brings them closer together than either could have imagined, especially in such a short time!
Two strangers who share a terrible event come together in this action packed romance by Kaylee Cross. I'm never disappointed with her and she delivers in this 2nd book in Crimson Point Security.
Brandon is instantly intrigued with the strange woman who contacts him about Yemen, where he'd been held hostage recently. Haha works for the security company suspected of war crimes. She learns her employer is after Brandon & warns him. When she is forced on the run, she leaves Tampa for the Oregon coast to see Brandon. They end up on the run together.
A terrific romance with tons of heat and action make this a real treat.
Suspenseful and action packed story with strong characters and a fight for survival. Twists and turns and a heart stopping climax. Gripping and powerful, it had me fully invested and intrigued. I'm glad both Jaia and Brandon got answers and that they had the backup of good friends and teammates when it was needed the most. This series just gets better with each book, plus we get a complete conclusion in this one since part of the plot started in the first book. Hot guys who are very protective but not afraid to show their vulnerabilities and kick-a** women not afraid to stand their ground or fight back. Fabulous.
Talk about edge of your seat reading, this is a non stop story that keeps you engrossed in the story. I couldn't put the book down. Brandon has been through the ringer and it appears the higher ups that caused all this and his capture, are after him again. Jaia is working for the company and found some interesting evidence. She believed her brothers accident was no accident. She talked him into working for the company when he got out of the marines and blames herself for his death. That's why she's determined to protect Brandon if she can. Excellent read. HEA.
I really enjoyed this book! Full of romance and suspense. Two of my favorite things. The previous book touched on Brandon and his backstory, so it was great to get to see him find his HEA. For someone who experienced a terrible situation during his PJ service, he was determined to solve the mystery and to trust a stranger in the process. Jaia was the perfect one to help Brandon. She experienced her own loss and was determined to get justice. She and Brandon worked together to find justice and to find peace for themselves. Another addicting read by Kaylea Cross!
Cornered is the second book in the Crimson Point protectors series. I was looking forward to read Brandon’ s story after we met him in the previous book. After what he has been through I really hoped he would find the happiness he deserves. I started reading and couldn’t put it down! It was another late night finishing the book. Awesome characters, great plot and hot romance! Brandon and Jaia are just the perfect couple!! I loved them! Definitely 5 stars! I’m already anxiously waiting for the next book ! I received this arc from the author and this review is my honest opinion
An intense read that involved a PJ who had gone missing in action. He was tortured and interrogated repeatedly about some atrocities, but eventually rescued. Now, he is trying to cope and not succeeding at it because there are too many questions unanswered. Brandon receives some notifications that rattle him.
Jaia is an executive assistant at Greystone who is dangerously trying to get answers for personal reasons and in the process she's also trying to help a man she does not know personally.
After everything Brandon has been through hell 4 no reason but after what he was grilled over stuff he didn't know anything about but now he got info about that piece of shit place that needs 2 answer 2 instead of throwing things under the rug. Instead they try 2 make people do alot of killings so they don't get in more trouble than they already r. But with a unexpected person trying 2 get answers and justice 4 her bro. What can go wrong? Read and find out. I was sad that in trying 2 protect his son he was blackmailed and ending up dieing. That was 1 part I wasn't happy about at all!!
Jaia and Brandon. Picking up shortly after book one we see that Brandon’s danger and trauma are not over. Jaia is new to the series, but also used to trauma as her brother was recently killed and associated with their common enemy. Between looking for justice and running for their lives these two meet and the sparks fly. The writing is colorful and well balanced with action, intrigue and romance. The friendships also are larger than life and led the way for a lot of laughs. Great second book and enjoying this series!
Another action packed read from an Amazing author. I loved the action in this one, just when you think there about to be home free something else gets in the way. I love that the 2 main characters didn’t want to trust each other but they had no choice if they wanted to survive.
The twist and turn, the Romance, the new characters and even the familiar characters all played an excellent part in this story.
Couldn't find any chemistry between the MCs. Dont know what attracted them to each other. I felt the hero made silly decision by leaving the heroine on her own even after knowing that the cover up involved multiple government officials. He could have gauged them before trusting them with her location.
I kept rolling my eyes while reading the book. The entire book was too predictable and similar to other books, only the names were different.
